I really need advice on my nanny/housekeeper hunt & have already searched on here without much success. Does anyone have any experience with either maidcv.com, maidfinder.ae or nanniesdubai.com? We have a 6mnth baby & are looking for someone to live in. Currently paying very high daily agency-maid fees. Thank you in advance!

They no longer issue the letter here. I got mine in a Cyprus where I was getting married, same process as Zoco. You may be able to get it in Australia. You may need to post notice of marriage & wait 3weeks for no objections to get it in uk.

Ladies, sorry to drag up an old post but it will be my first year renewing DHA license and had some questions as my previous license was DHCC & renewed by my employers. Can I renew the DHA license online from UK? Would this just involve online renewal, uploading CPD stuff and paying? Alternatively can my employer do it from here while I'm away without me present? Thanks in advance for your help!! Ps. Bubby1234 I only saw your reply this time resurrecting the thread. Really appreciate the advice & will take it... Breast-feeds between patients it is lol. I too had to relinquish the uk license after 2 years here, but I'm hoping that should we ever return there will be some kind of 'back to work scheme' we can do :)

Hi bb1, we looked at loads of wedding venues in Dubai & thought we'd chosen. On a whim we then looked at Kempinski on the Palm last-minute and it beat all the others. We could have ceremony on the beach. Had dinner on the beachside lawn but they do have a ballroom, and rented the beachside villa for drinks/canapés and 'after-party' as most venues have to end at 11.30pm. Hope your friend finds the perfect place for her big day! edited by Britgirldubai on 24/10/2014

There's a Canon repair centre in Al Ghazal mall (corner of 2nd December & Al Wasl roads in Satwa with a C4 and Brands for Less in it). We took a camera there, not sure if they do the printers too.

Congratulations on your engagement! I am British & my then fiancée (now DH) is Lebanese & American. It was extremely complicated if we wanted to get married in England. You have to have a UK address and be there to post notice of marriage in person several weeks before. We looked into all the options and you can post notice of marriage by post in Gretna (hence the old eloping capital). Ultimately we found it required 2 trips to the UK (or maybe even have to stay the whole time between posting notice & the ceremony) and was too complicated and time consuming. We married in Cyprus which was much simpler, plan b was Vegas. As others have said, call a registry office... They were extremely helpful. Hope you work it all out, good luck!! edited by Britgirldubai on 21/10/2014

I would go with a physio if you think the problem is muscular (ie. Trapezius muscle) rather than a joint problem. Nerves can become trapped when a muscle is in spasm and can also cause referred pain to other areas. If you have any true numbness or weakness in your arms/legs consider neurology, if you have any tenderness down the central spine consider X-ray/orthopedics. Hope this helps, good luck!

They do say the best way to change behavior is to reward good behavior rather than punish bad behavior..... on my way home this evening the car behind let me move into their lane which I needed to be in to turn, so I wizzed down my window and gave a big thank you wave out of it. Maybe I can start a trend, it does my head in when I don't get a thank you from a driver I've let into the lane (or who just cuts in front) edited by Britgirldubai on 20/10/2014

Rude + stupidity.... Went to Ikea on a Friday (yes, bad move but had to go then). We had our trolley loaded up & headed for the lift. The woman with her trolley waiting in front of us for the lift was so close to the doors that when it arrived the various people inside with trolleys & prams could barely get out! Reminded me of my Dubai metro experiences... People pushing themselves on before letting anyone get out and actually make some space. edited by Britgirldubai on 20/10/2014

Yes, Norethisterone 5mg 3x daily can be taken to delay a period. You start 3-4 days before the period is due and continue until your return. Your period will then start 2-3 days after you stop taking it.

Amelia I think you may mean Music Hall at Zabeel Saray? I had my 'batchelorette' there and it really was one of the best ever Dubai nights. You can sit restaurant style & have a proper meal, whilst there are great performers on the stage (variety of nationalities & styles), and a 'disco' feel in between and DJ after about 1.30am. Most people got up and had a dance at some point, and there was quite a broad age range from the early 20s group to the grandparents. Highly recommend it! edited by Britgirldubai on 18/10/2014

From Mercato, drive on beach road away from Burj Al Arab, it will be on your right (same side as Mercato). You'll first see the Tim Hortons on the near side corner of the mall with seating on the pavement usually. You can normally find a space to park in front of the mall from there. There's a big sign on it for Sun, Sea & Sand and a you'll see a Costa. edited by Britgirldubai on 18/10/2014

In a blind panic about my hair loss during the run up to my wedding I found that the Dubai water is very highly chlorinated. I had a filter which resulted in some improvement, but the best result was when I started rinsing with bottled water at the end of shower/bath. It really made a massive difference.

such a sad post ..i truly feel for you. you are always more than welcome to join us. my husband converted to islam to marry me but we still celebrate Christmas , thanksgiving etc. we have a massive christmas in our house and have a proper Christmas meal with gifts under the tree .it all boils to respect for each other's culture. as a muslim we are supposed to be tolerant and flexible. During ramadhan he tolerates my fasting and celebrate eid with me and in return , I join him in his celebrations. edited by stylex1 on 14/10/2014 edited by stylex1 on 14/10/2014 This is how we do things too. Even before marriage & growing up in UK we celebrated the birth of Jesus, which is also a Muslim belief (along with the nativity story) & He is a prophet in Islam.... so I don't get why your box had to go?? :( Wafi plan sounds good, or maybe carol singing at Cherpie's? (+/- mulled date juice)... he'll wish he'd kept the Christmas music CDs lol edited by Britgirldubai on 14/10/2014

plum2, thanks so much for yor response! Despite it not being what I wanted to hear really :( I have a medical degree & specialised in General Practice, BM MRCGP (both UK). Can't believe how much I miss so many aspects of the NHS... most of my GP friends back home took a whole year of maternity leave for each child, with quite a bit of it paid. It sounds really black & white with DHA. I will take your advice seriously to do 'my utmost not to cancel my license'. It was a serious mission to acquire it in the first place which I'd hate to repeat, and worse to be turned down. I hope you didn't learn this the hard way & had someone to advise you in advance like I did :)

Hi ladies, I hope someone can help with my dilemma... I am due to stop working early November to go to UK to deliver my baby, and hoping to return to Dubai early Feb 2015 if all goes to plan (EDD 24/12/14). My DHA specialist license expires in January 2015. I'm trying to decide whether to go back to work quite soon after I return (and hold on to my current job), or take a further 6-12mnths off. Does anyone know how long I have to renew my DHA license before it becomes tricky & I need re-training/exams etc? Have tried looking on the DHA website but its the least informative website I've ever seen and from experience I know a phone call won't get me any further. Thanks in advance!! edited by Britgirldubai on 13/10/2014

We went to The Rib Room (Emirates Towers) for my bday dinner in July with DH... was really good food, ambience, service and not too fancy. For DH's bday we went to a restaurant with his parents at Jumeirah Beach Hotel that had amazing steaks, views and live tango dancers, can't recall the name but would also highly recommend it! edited by Britgirldubai on 13/10/2014

"Money doesn't buy class btw" Exactly, that's why she wrote 'upper class' rather than 'rich', and hence why the 'old money v new money' is so true! edited by Britgirldubai on 13/10/2014

For me, it's actually a class issue. Upper class people treat everyone that works for them with respect and lower class people don't. New money v old money? These comments both sum it up perfectly (but don't really answer the original question lol)

Careem is excellent. Used them for airport trips when I was living in a very hard to find location & Dubai Taxi would likely mean a missed flight. Careem car usually arrived 30mins early, text messages saying car on its way & that it's arrived outside with car type & registration, no need for cash handover (except tip of course ;) ), very polite drivers & chilled water. Well worth the extra cash! I liked arranging via my mobile without having to actually (try to) speak to anyone. edited by Britgirldubai on 12/10/2014

'Routine screening' only applies if you have NO symptoms (lumps, pain, nipple discharge etc) and are not very high risk. Routine screening starts at different ages depending on the country, UK is 50yrs and USA & UAE are 40yrs. However if you have any symptoms or are higher risk this doesn't apply. As everyone has said, USS is generally better for younger breasts which are more glandular than post-menopausal breasts. Sometimes something is picked up on mammogram that will need an USS for further detail or just to guide the biopsy needle in. Good luck!!

Pollydxb - nice hijack ;) We emailed our passport copies & the passport copies of our mothers as they were the 2 witnesses in advance, as well as our birth certificate copies. My now DH went to the US consulate for his letter proving he wasn't married. But nothing else here. In Cyprus we had the certificate attested at the Lebanese embassy as he's (also) Lebanese. I'm going back to uk in Dec & hoping to do all the change of name business then, which seems like a total headache... then when I return here getting the visa in my new passport, changing drivers license, Emirates ID etc ugh!! edited by Britgirldubai on 08/10/2014

http://www.patient.co.uk/health/plantar-fasciitis-leaflet I have the same & I'm 6 months preg. It sounds like plantar fasciitis. It comes from wearing flat shoes, this puts extra strain on the Achilles tendon and inflammation at its connection with the plantar fascia on the sole if the foot under the heel. You can put heel raises in your shoes & do Achilles stretches. Beyond this it's steroid injections etc. Above leaflet is very good, hope this helps (Unless you kicked your obgyn in the face mid-delivery & broke a bone in your foot??)

Aw I hope you feel better soon! The key is for her to exclude the coil being stray in the pelvis (USS or by checking for the strings) and to exclude infection which can be introduced with the coil. Beyond this, the Mirena releases progesterone & your body may need to adjust, and it just doesn't suit some women. Good luck!!
