Hi, I started my new job in February for training, official start date was April. My offer letter is dated April and states the following: Probation period: as per UAE labour law you will be subject to 6 months from the actual date of joining. Employment Contract: Upon joining the company and completing your probation period, you will be required to sign employment agreement explaining all the terms and conditions related to your employment. The job is in a nursery and not long after I started my boss made me sign and fingerprint a piece of paper. I was in the middle of a class so didn't ask what it was for as I had 15 children to look after. I am now wanting to leave as the working conditions are poor, salary is very low and I am now required to take 2 months unpaid leave over summer. I have asked my boss today if I can have the option of a higher salary to cover the 2 months I have unpaid or whether I can work over the summer otherwise I will have to leave and find a higher paying job to which she responded I will get a penalty and a labour ban if I leave now. My question is this: Do you think the paper I signed was a contract even though she didn't give me anything to read? Does my offer letter stand for anything where it says I am under 6 months probation and I will only sign a contract upon completion of my probation? TIA

This article makes me so excited! My little girl is due next month and we have just completed our hypnobirthing classes & hopefully when the day arrives the pool will be free for us to birth in :) I think it sounds like such a wonderful experience and the midwives at Al Zahra are lovely :)

Hi, Sorry if this seems like I'm hijacking the original post but I'm hoping someone can answer a question about Shop & Ship! If I order from Amazon, I enter the UK address given to me by Aramex on checkout. Then does it automatically get forwarded to the Dubai address I entered when I signed up for S&S? Or do I have to enter my Dubai address somewhere? x

Hello, I posted in the pregnancy matters group also, I am 24 and 6 months pregnant with my first baby, a little girl due in October. I'm really struggling to meet people my age who are also pregnant or who have children, my husband and I both grew up here and none of our friends are having kids at this point in life, so it's tough! Are there any young expat mums out there? I live in Jebel Ali by the way... And I have attempted to go to coffee mornings but it didnt work out for me, the mums were all a lot older than me and unfortunately I felt they looked down on me due to my age and appearance as I have quite a few tattoos.. Hope there's someone out there! Xx I'm so happy I have seen this as I am in the exact same situation! I am also 24 and expecting a little girl in October :) I've only been in Dubai since last August so I don't have many friends here at all and due to working throughout the week I don't get chance to go to any coffee mornings! I live in Al Barsha but I would be more than happy to meet another new mum in a similar situation! x

I just arrived back from spending 2 nights there. It depends what you plan on doing. We just went for a relaxing weekend and it was perfect! However, if you are wanting to do some of the more action packed activities it is too hot. It was still pretty busy though, and plenty of kids there.

We're thinking of getting a kitten. I haven't got a clue where to start in dubai. Any info would be great x I second kitten67, I got my 2 after seeing a post on Bin Kitty Collective. They were only 13 weeks old when we got them so they do advertise a wide variety of ages!

Hi Guys! So I am just about to go into my fifteenth week of pregnancy here in Dubai and I'd love some advice from you ladies! I have had my first 2 check ups with Dr Nataliya at Cooper Clinic on Al Wasl but I feel she was quite rude (answered her phone while in the middle of my scan & shouted at her assistant during my appointment) so I am wondering if anyone else has used her and their experience? I have decided to make an appointment with Dr Braithwaite at American Hospital so if anyone has any experience with her I'd also love to hear! As well as any experience of delivering at American Hospital. We also don't have any insurance! :( so I'm terrified of something going wrong within the delivery and not being able to afford it! Anyway, long post over! Please share your experiences ladies! xx I have friends deliver with her and they say she is v experienced and they would not dream of seeing anyone else. However, I love my gynecologist, he is very calming and good with complicated case, his name is Dr Christian Jozsa, he works at Healthbay clinic and I had my delivery at city hospital which is the nicest hospital here I think. He is v different to Dr Natayla...good luck x Rosie2121 if you don't mind me asking, did you have insurance? If not what were the costs like? Thanks in advance!

Cowboy, I guess I didn't think of it like that with regards to her answering her phone, I just heard her shouting at some insurance guy! But you are right, thanks for pointing that out!
