Well , according to the EDD we have 24 days to go... Can't figure out if I'm more excited or nervous yet...going with the no fear approach to labor though. I've got my mind set that I can do t his, just like every other woman has before me...even if it's about 8000 miles from my comfort zone. Yesterday I had a checkup at the Corniche Hospital...after waiting for 4 1/2 hrs (which would have been more had I not complained at the 3hr mark), I had my 7.3 min of time with the doctor. Btw, seriously miss doc/patient confidentiality here because if I'd wanted a party in the room, I would have sent invitations. Anyway, my point, after all that waiting, I was only weighed, BP taken, baby's heartbeat checked, and the doc pushed on my stomach. Isn't there supposed to be more done? Next appointment is in 2 weeks and a scan is scheduled. Seriously? At 39 weeks, we're going to do a scan? I'm thinking I'll get told by the sonographer "yes, she's in the birth canal, aren't you feeling a bit uncomfortable?" At least I have the day off work to rest due to pure exhaustion and lack of sleep due to increased pressure...baby dropped....hungry ALL the time...and difficulty sleeping....any day now :) edited by Buckeye@heart on 08/11/2012

Corniche also accepts Thiqa and ADNIC if it's GN Plus. edited by Buckeye@heart on 07/10/2012

32 weeks today...starting to feel a bit like a weeble, seriously loose ligaments! No lie, my hip actually fell out of place a couple weeks ago and landed me in the hospital and then the chiropractor to put it back. Not fun! Any one else ever have this issue! My baby girl seems to be growing right on track...next appointment not until the 17th though... Excited about finding more details, but much less excited about the severely long wait! What is up with four house? Must they really book five people for the same time slot? What's the point of an appointment anyway?

Hi ladies :) It sounds as if everyone is progressing along well :) That's always good to hear.. In between my second bout of horribly annoying mood swings (crying for nothing and out of nowhere like in the first trimester) things are great. Appointment on Thursday showed my little girl, to be getting bigger by the day. She's already over 1kg; nearly 3lbs by US measuring standards and at 17inches long! I've already got a mini-me on board! lol. I'm 5'10" and her father is 6'0", so I never thought she'd be a little one. I really can't wait to meet her... the little thumps are turning into big jabs more often than not. Someone mentioned round ligament pain; "oohh oohh, me, me!" -my poor lower abdomen. I've been doing pre-natal yoga for a couple weeks now since returning from summer holiday and that seems to help a lot. Sitting for prolonged periods of time in one position seems to agrivate the pain I find. Then even though she'll be in our room for the first couple of months (inshallah), already went and put the nursery together for the most part. I wanted to decorate myself and best to do that before I hit weeble status and can't move anymore! :) I think it's okay to splurge and don't let anyone tell you any different! Besides, there's always the next baby or a friend/family member that can use hand-me-downs that are gently used. I know I appreciate them! Starting week 29 tomorrow...I can't believe it's gone this fast already! Good luck to all :) I so enjoy hearing of your experiences, I find it comforting! edited by Buckeye@heart on 15/09/2012

Tomorrow starts week 27 for me... Then we're on to the 3rd trimester...wow... Detailed anatomy/morphology scan went well I think. Baby girl is developing well with no signs of abnormalities thus far. I was told that my amniotic fluid level is slightly lower than normal. Seeing as there are no foreseen reasons to the "why" all I can do is drink more water...I just end up in the bathroom more than my current hobby has me there already. It's either more water or eventually IV fluids...great, swelling to come I'm sure. Speaking of which; Dallydoo- I'm always stiff! I completely feel your pain. All of my rings fit well too, but swelling occurs at all different stages I think. Just keeping on the fluids and low on the sodium & caffeine intake! :) Start back to work tomorrow; holiday fun is over....sigh...but good news is that there's only a couple weeks to go before the next holiday! :) Then closer to baby time!!

@hassli - You are right, it is always better to be safe than sorry. I have the detailed anatomy scan this evening. If anything, I'm just excited to see my baby girl...I never get tired of it! In regards to gestational diabetes; you can increase foods that Rae high in fiber (whole grained breads and cereals, Rice, fruits, and vegetables). Also, make sure that you are drinking enough water! @Mmmmmm- Im located in AD so what are available in regards to antenatal classes may be different for you. I am going to open a file at the Women's Health Center tomorrow, as the Corniche Hospital is the only hospital I can guarantee a female doctor delivers our baby. My husband is adimant about this. I love my current doctor and would be happy if she could deliver, but it's just not humanly possible with the amount of patients she has. So, another new doctor it seems is in the new future. Other news...nursery furniture arrived and set up. It's a bit early, but my family from the states had given so many gifts, we needed to put them away. edited by Buckeye@heart on 26/08/2012

Much appreciated! Finally had another check-up, I'm a little behind because of my holiday. The doctor said that she wanted to schedule a detailed anatomy scan even though I was a bit late for the window at 25 wks 6 days. We'll see what they say on Saturday, the office was closed this evening. I've never heard of it being done in the States, especially as I'm sure it's an elective procedure. I'm sure everything is fine, but they're extremely cautious here and happy to charge the insurance companies for whatever they can it seems. We're in the 50th percentile as of today, however her legs are still above average. She's weighing in around 894grams as a far as the scans say. To me, this is far abover the 1.5 lbs of the average 25wk stage...but then each baby is different. Exciting though, after having an amazing trip back to the states, brought back tons of baby gifts. Our nursery furniture arrived today...now the task of putting it away.... It can't stay in suitcases til Dec2nd or whenever baby girl makes her appearance :)

A new beach opened up a month or so ago near Al Rahba. Ladies only and open all through the week. Not sure with Ramadan though. My sister-in-laws said it was lovely and not as crowded as the one in Dubai.

I helped with my cousin's old school tri-fold and velcro cloth diapers. That was with a diaper service however. So now that we're expecting our first at the beginning of December and after several friends' success with cloth diapers, I've decided this is the route for me. I purchased BumGenius 4.0s -24pack (Pocket-type, velcro closure) for $374 US (this included shipping and two inserts) and receieved a gift of 10-pack Happy Flute (pocket type, snap closure) as well. Both are very nice. Info on both can be found at www.diaperswappers.com . An awesome site not only for parenting advice, but there is a forum for exchange as well if you're not opposed to second-hand or deep-discount items.

Oh wow, I feel so out of touch. I went on holiday and just fell off the wagon! LOL! Well, before we left at our last scan in July, found out we're expecting a girl! :) We're both happy that thus far things look wonderful. She has some wicked long legs and is as active as a gymnast! I actually started feeling her move for the first time as I was making the flight here on Friday the 13th; so, as my family tradition goes, that day maintains to be lucky for us. My belly is finally starting to show that I'm actually pregnant and not just suffering from some "big Mac addiction" or other various eating issue. Thankfully! Today, we are week 24 and still on schedule for Dec 2...but who knows if she'll make her appearance on time!? Do they ever? Hope everyone is having a fantastic summer! I'm heading back to AD on the 18th...bittersweet leaving my family (two new nieces were born while I was here), but getting to return to my husband who had to travel back ahead of me. Support seriously needed right now, because I have five days to go and the waterworks have already started!

I unfortunately gained quite a bit during my first trimester. I had a large cyst on my right ovary (8cm) and was ordered no exercise, excessive movement, nothing other than sleeping with my husband, and I was told to not even kneel to pray. So needless to say, that going from working out 4+ days a week to feeling like I was sedentary, has put a severe dent in my no more than 35 pounds (a little under 16kilos ) gained during pregnancy. So now, at a bit over 18 wks, I've put on 7.2 kilos... Talk about a blow to my self esteem, as I'd lost nearly 20 kilos before my February wedding... I just keep reminding myself that after the baby is here breast feeding, continuing a proper diet, and then at least walking with the baby as soon as possible, I'll be able to shed that weight rather quickly. It's still difficult to me to not be body conscious, as I'm nearly 6ft tall and was a size 12-14 prior to pregnancy.

@Dangerous Blonde- Don't worry, you're not in the boat alone; I haven't been able to sleep well for quite some time now. I don't really have a big bump at all...I honestly feel like I look like I ate one too many cheeseburgers. It'll come, not to rush things I'm told. Sometimes I think I've felt the baby move, other times I think I'm imagining it. As it's my first baby, I'm clueless. @TexLady- Welcome to the board. It's nice to have some where to compare and talk through things; though I'd like to do so more often honestly. I'm seeing Dr.Afaf at Health Plus off 11th and 28th in AD. The doctor is by far the most personable doctor I've encountered within my almost 2 years here in AD (I arrived Sept 11, 2010). We'll be delivering at a new hospital that will be opening hopefully soon near to our doctor, otherwise, we'll be delivering at Al Noor downtown AD. I'm still in the dark about the whole registering thing. If I've been seeing a doctor there, shouldn't that be enough? I mean, I don't know when our baby is going to decide to make its appearance. As for our stats: Married: Nov 7th in States (contract/Ohio marriage license), Feb 24th in Abu Dhabi (formal, big ceremony; white dress day) Career: Former Chef, Currently KG Teacher Originally from: Ohio, USA EDD: December 2 (UAE National Day) 17wks 4 days today :) ---Praying that baby decides to be a bit early or a day or two late, I don't want to deal with traffic on National Days while in labor!! I cannot wait for my next appointment next Friday! I really hope that we can tell the gender. Also hoping that the doctor will make a video of the scan so I can take it back to the states and show my family on holiday. Wishing everyone the best!

17 wks 3 days...It's been a little while since I've signed on to the site, missed reading everyone's posts about their adventure! Last doc visit showed our little break dancer in 4d real time; I honestly didn't know 4d was an option lol. Happily the baby is healthy as far as we can tell. Opted not to do any of the additional tests. I figure it's not going to change my love for my child either way, so why waste the money? Hoping that our next appointment on the 5th of July shows us what the baby is; my husband won't stop asking for the count down. I'm glad he's excited! Mood swings are driving me crazy! I cry at the drop of a hat! Anyone else still experiencing this? Hope everyone is well!

Hello again to all the beautiful mommies-to-be. 14 weeks 4 days today; it's my 30th birthday...(Sigh to the latter). Wednesday, had another check-up, but this time with the most amazing doctor! I love her! Several of my co-workers recommended her; Dr.Afaf at Health Plus in AD. It was such a refreshing moment to have a doctor look at me, see me, and actually talk to me; about my health, my thoughts & concerns, my family history, etc. Definately a change to what I've experienced thus far in AD. Anyway, I digress, this was the first time my husband was to hear the heartbeat; I was beside myself with excitement for him to finally experience something "more real" other than my emotional roller-coaster. When she did the ultrasound, my husband was more blown away that there, small as it was, was a little tiny baby, doing some serious fist-pumps and leg kicks! He just stared at the big-screen, with this big grin on his face. I wish I had a camera! It was precious. Yet, because of all the activity, we couldn't determine the gender of the baby. That's fine with me, I like the suspense. I can't wait to finally feel that tiny little miracle move. And yes, we've definately moved on to some larger pants. Not fun, seeing as before my wedding in Feb. I worked so hard to lose weight and now, I'm back in my "fat" jeans from when I moved to the UAE in 2010. Blow to the ego, but my husband is wonderful in reminding me that I'm not fat, I'm pregnant and will always be beautiful to him. Late night heartburn still there...I'm afraid for when my Tums (antiacids from the States) will run out. And my "lovely pregnancy glow" can fade any time; I haven't broken out on my chin like this since I was 16! Other than that, things are great! All of you???

Hello everyone. I'm joining as I sincerely need a larger support system here in AD. My husband and his family are here in AD, but all of my family (parents, expectant sister and sister-in-law, cousins, etc.) are all in the States. Today I'm 11 weeks 4 days :) with my first. Sincerely excited... Thankfully the late night heart-burn I've had for the last month is subsiding, but there are still foods I'm afraid to go near for fear of nausea! I've been having strange dreams lately...anyone else? -Amanda
