I was going to do an intensive course myself last year. I needed to get a replacement provisional licence so I contacted the DVLA, I was told that because I have been out of the country for more than 80 days I could not take lessons or test in the UK. That was that really :(

You are very welcome :) Do certainly look around, the gardens are a great size. As I said the most important thing is, make sure your landlord has a maintenance contract! If you need to know anything just send me a message. Good Luck :D

You are welcome :D Where I live they are getting on with the park just outside my villa. They have put up climbing frames etc... although it isn't finished yet and it is too hot to be outside for long anyway. I don't know how long it will take them to finish it of course but they do seem to be getting on with it! I can't comment on any other district. Taxi's are not normally a problem during the day, I get them all of the time, it gets difficult at around 4-5pm during changeover and especially on a Thursday night when everyone is going out. Kitchens in the villa's are small, my friends in springs have type M and E villa's and theirs are larger than mine. I don't know what problems there are with bathrooms in the Springs, I have looked around both types (3 bed) and they look fine. Can't comment on a 2 bed. To be honest with you, I am about to move somewhere I have only seen a few photo's of, I like the look of it. The way I look at it is, if I don't like it, then I can move in a year, it really isn't that long. The thing I do stress is make sure any problems with your villa, your landlord will fix. I have had a few but nothing really major. You can read the problems people have had on the JVT Facebook page.

A road was opened within the last few months or so between JVT and springs. I live in District 4 with is one of the furthest away from it and it takes around 10ish mins to drive to Spinneys so isn't far at all, it takes around 20 to get to Ibn Batutta, so not difficult. Maintenance all depends on your landlord (I am a assuming you are going to rent?) The property has 1 years maintenance from Nakheel from the time they hand over the keys, you will need to find out when that was. I would if I was you make sure your landlord has a maintenance contract in place or you come to some kind of deal just to be on the safe side. You may have no problems at all. The gardens are great. We have a 18ft diameter pool + a gazebo with table and 6 chairs in and it takes up a small part of the garden, the gardens are big! If you have a grass garden you can get a gardener for around 250-350 a month. The districts mean nothing really. if you drive or walk you could walk/drive into a district without knowing it. They are signposted but not very well. There is no good or bad district. Getting out at 7, doesn't make any difference where you are really. My husband has no problems at all. Knowledge village, I had to go a few weeks ago and can't remember how long it took but I wasn't that long, rush hour I have no idea about. Anywhere that side of the city isn't a problem, you can go Emirates road or through springs and Al Barsha. With the new roads opening really has made a difference. Taxi's at certain times will not go to JVT a lot don't even know it exists!! So if you want to go out on a Thursday night by taxi, forget it! best drive and pick up your car next day if you are going to drink. Good Luck

I live in JVT and after two years I am moving. It depends really on what you want. I am in a two bed villa, there are a lot of problems, things are going wrong with them all the time. floods, brown water, Nakheel not paying dewa bill so some people had their water disconnected It is still a building site and will be for a long time. there isn't so much as a small shop. They are the negatives. The positives, the gardens are big and I love ours, I have lovely neighbours and there is a Facebook page for JVT residents, which is friendly (most of the time) and helpful, but unfortunately that isn't enough. I love walking and I like going on my bike, I do neither their as I just don't like it. Check out the Facebook page jumeirah village triangle. Might I say though most people who I know there love it. I do have two friends however in Springs and they love it, it is also finished! Hope this has been of some help.

Hi Doodles, I had the same problem ! The iphone needs a micro sim u can get if from DU or Etisalat whoever your provider is. I went to DU and they issued me with a micro sim with the same old number (had to pay 20dirhams) lol ! Make sure u save all your numbers as I lost all of them. Good Luck Jyoti, Aren't all your numbers on your phone? Whenever we go anywhere we always buy a local sim. Have never lost anything, everything, numbers, photo's etc..has always been there.

I don't remember to be honest with you but, everyone I know with gas do have the cages. You should ring them up and enquire, if they don't then it might be Nakheel that supplies them.

I also live in JVT and that is the way it is. Ours is in a cage though. We have had no problems in two years, except for a slight gas leak, we called them and they were out straight away. The gas bottles can withstand an awful lot, they have to. I really wouldn't worry if I was you. Try it, see how you feel, if you are still uneasy about it you can always swap to electric.

i went 3.5 joyful years without paying it. then they suddenly 'woke up'.... What happened? They didn't backdate it did they? We are about to move next month and everything is going in my name because of the problems we have been having with DEWA, even the guy who has been trying to sort it all out thinks that is a good idea!!

How about Hatta Fort Hotel, haven't stayed there myself but people I know who have loved it. I think you get a discount if you have a residency visa as well, but you need to check their website for that.

Hi Snugs, I thought every company had their own PRO to sort that stuff out. If your husbands doesn't, it might help if he asked a few collogues at work and get a recommendation. Sorry can't be of any help.

Madge_Gustard replied : The only reason that some expat households have escaped so far is just down to the inefficiencies of the collection system. You can say that again!! We registered when we moved into our villa two years ago, we have never been charged!! typical!! Bit like the ID deadline!! A complete joke!

As I said I don't drive, but for the past two years I have lived in Jumeirah Village Triangle and it is a building site, they are just now putting some trees in!! I don't mind getting taxi's everywhere, I just want somewhere (when it cools down) that I can go for a nice walk, or bike ride and have nice scenery around me for a change. Did consider Springs but when we found this villa, it is big, own pool, my husband just fell in love with it!! Thank you :D

Thanks Floridagirl :) The villa my husband viewed looked great. Where we live at the moment there isn't anything so a small shop is a major bonus! Whereas the pool and playground, isn't something we require so that doesn't bother us at all. One worry was being isolated but it sounds like it is very close to a lot of places. Thank you

I live in JVT and have done for the past two years. Am moving next month though. I live in a villa with a large garden, all grass, there are just the two of us and our DEWA bills on average are around 1600 pm. I don't use the air-con much if i can help it, not because it is expensive, I just prefer not to. I know of a lot of people that do have problems. The sprays at the side of the toilets often start leaking. Someone posted that they came back after a weekend away to her villa flooded. it happened to me but i was there at the time. Make sure that anything that may happen your Landlord will put right.

I am so glad I came across this. I am moving soon from JVT and have been considering Arabian Ranches. I love my garden but am sick of living on a building site. No shop, taxi's on a Thursday night, just forget it. We have also decided we want a 3 bed but there are none. The Ranches sounds ideal to me.

I have felt like this every time I have been back to bonnie Scotland for a visit. I dread coming back! Like you I still feel like the UK is my home and I have been here 2 years. I come back because I have to, my life is here for now but certainly not forever. Hope the feeling passes when you are back in Dubai. Thanks Lynney :) I have been going back and forth for 4 years and although I am always upset to leave the Uk I am happy to be in Dubai but this time I just don't want to go back. I will and I will carry on. hopefully it will pass as soon as I get back into the Dubai way of things :) The Uk will always be my home and I will be back for good at some point :)

Been in Dubai 4 years, never felt like this before. I loved coming home to see everyone but also looked forward to getting back to Dubai, home as it felt. This time though I feel dread at the thought of going back. I have always enjoyed being in Dubai, this time though I just feel it isn't home, the UK is and I feel I don't want to leave. I don't know why. There are no problems at all back in Dubai in fact the opposite everything is great, so I am feeling confused. DH would never come back unless it was absolutely necessary. He won't even come back for a holiday. All my family and real friends are in the UK, maybe that is it, I don't know :(

I always get bitten. Have you tried a good mozzie repellant? It might be worth trying that for a day/night to see if it makes a difference. I use moustidose, it is really good. If you are just getting bitten when you are in bed could be bed bugs, if call someone out and they will sort it for you.

My son has been in the army for a few years now and I have to say that although I understood and respected his decision I was not happy, but that was me being selfish!! It is hard to deal with at first but you do have an enormous feeling of pride. He will make some great friends, learn some great skills, my son is in the REME's and has learnt so much. The life suits him so well. I wish your son all the best. His passing out parade your heart will just swell with pride :) My son has been on tour in Iraq once and afganistan twice, if you would like to ask anything, inbox me, I will help if I can :)

Your landlord cannot ask you to leave unless he intends to either himself or one of his family move in. He also has to give you notice it should say in your contract how much. Go to RERA we had to. Our landlord wanted to increase our rent but that was also illegal, we had only been there a year so he said his son was going to move in. They cannot by law rent it out for a year if that is how he has got you out unless you are given the option to stay. Stand your ground, go to RERA explain the situation and they will tell you what you can and can't do. Good luck :)
