Hey there Any of you ladies know if I would need a transit visa as well as a a UK visa for my pending vacation with DH? Do you have a tourist visa for the UK? if yes. I dont think you will need a transit one. http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/view/visa.form http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/view/visa.form Espero que estos enlaces, si no los habias consultado antes, te ayuden. Pero estoy casi segura que si tienes visa de turista o residencia , no necesitas una de transito. Thanks

I thought you could only have a maid of a certain nationality Filipina, Idian etc would SAbe allowed? Bangladesh, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Philippines and Sri Lanka are the nations from which maids can be employed. That said, I seem to remember that people have had luck in the past bringing in their helpers from other countries. The way to get around it is to employ them as a nanny/governess NOT a maid. What you do when they get here is your business; this is just to get around the domestic servant visa limitations. We had a MAID from Colombia, and also some of our friends heren have employed maids form South America,(Colombia, Peru, Bolivia)only different thing we did in the process to get her a maids visa was proof she was not a relative.

What did they ask and do? Invited the children to "play " around the tables, they asked my child : How many balls are here? What colour is this? They read a story to the kids.... It was a group assesment. My child didnt stop talking (in spanish) I was very relax. No preaparation at all. The teacher who was assesing my child asked about the language speaking at home, I, very clearly, explained that we are a bilingual family in English and Spanish...

I think it goes for teachers in general! Too easy to put 2 and 2 together and work out who people are! There will only be one new male teacher starting in September who has a 16 month old daughter. I thought there were more than two new males teachers starting at JPS.......!

I have never seen anyone write anything negative about JESS. If there is,no one will say. Lol! ;) yes, you are probably right. I was thinking more about of lots of replies telling me how good JESS is....! no negative comments. We are in the process to move our children there and was wondering if after all this is the right thing to do!

I'd get a second opinion if I were you. I think conditions like dyslexia and ADD are overdiagnosed. Maybe your son was just not in the mood to read or work with the doctor that day that he was there. Especially if it is borderline...better than subjecting your son to therapy and treatment, probably best to get a proper diagnosis and understanding first. Has he ever shown any other signs of having problems reading? He was assesed at school (it has a Dyslexy unit) He is doing very well at reading and maths, its just his writing.....

Im British, I dont pay my maid that much and she helps me cook by doing all the prep ...I treat her like a human being and with a lot of respect. Difference is, I treat her like a human being not with money ... but with simple things like, please, thank you, a smile, not raising my voice when she has done something wrong giving her space edited by mushypeas on 23/01/2013 *) see, its simple!

Not I dont expect them to be what you mentioned above .....I just want them to be maids! simple..... Not everyone wants a maid that cooks - some posters on here would not dream of letting the maid loose in their kitchens - they want more of a cleaner/babysitter - others want a driver/cleaner etc - everyone has their own list of essentials But obviously you want a cook/maid so these people are not right for your family's needs so you need to keep on looking and perhaps need to make it clear that cooking skills are essential in your Yes, there is a diference between a maid and a cleaner, in duties and salaries.

always amused by these sort of complaints ... an everage month has 30 days, 1 day per week off makes it 26 days work with working hours of at least 12 hours right ? 26 x 12 = 312 hours per month 2300 divided by 312 = 7.37 AED per hour thats around 1.5 EUR pay per hour ... and people expect them to be educated cleaners, chefs, nannies, servants and gardeners ... but what is that in Rupees or Pesos? As i am pretty sure that there are no European maids here. Probably three or for times in their home currency.....

I've been interviewing maids (or sometimes the other way around, ja!) and it seems there is a pattern with all the candidates: they work for British families, they want 2.300 dhs and they dont know how to cook! seriously, what is going on??????

had my share of house sharing for 3 years in University. Never again ... Me too! Ditto! I was single and lived in apt with other 5 girls...it was company accommodation, and it was H*ll itself...I was working hard and just collapse not going to sleep, and other 4 girls treating the house as sorority house and inviting every single man to that lounge and on full beam music....the place was most of the time dirty and thinking me and another girl - by the way we are now best friends - to clean up after them!!! me and her - my BFF - are just fed up with these biatches. and after a while each one of us got out - just in time, as the place become roaches heaven!!! Terrible....absolutely awful.

It's common in this region for families to live like that, and I have no qualms with that, it protects the elderly and the children grow up near their cousins, and parents have flexibility to work/go out as their family are close to help with the children. Terrible....absolutely awful. Why? I dont see why is terrible....absolutly awful. Im not from the region but as AmyAus said, the practice of sharing a house with your family is is very commom amoung us, sometimes to protect our parents or grandparents or sometimes for them to help us with our children! or many more reasons.

I've traveled to many places and by far, the best shopping is in the USA. Those stores know how to have a REAL sale, a REAL clearance, not like here where the price is doubled and then a 50% off tag is placed! edited by Sakhifa on 19/12/2012 I also think the States is a paradise for shopping!

Hi The assesment is very informal, couple of toys and books in the room and teachers inviting the children to "play". They will ask your child what is your name? how old are you? very simple!! You will have to fill in a form with your child personal info;potty traine? language he / she speaks.....etc..... When my daugther had her assesment the teacher approched me to ask which was the main language spoken at home, I explain to her we were a bilingual family ,so no just only one language was the strongest one..... Yes they will allow you in the room! :) edited by calili1971 on 17/12/2012

My children are half and half and we always make sure they enjoy the best of being from two different cultures! that is what is important for us as a family! And this is what I felt from the testemony of the young people in the documentary: they are proud to be what they are! they feel special! and Im sure they are!!!

Have they started the assessments? We've been on the wait list since early 2011. Haven't heard from them. So frustrated, have been trying to ring the registrar fir 2 weeks to find out when these are taking place but no response to emails, voicemails, messages left via receptionist! Have you heard from them at all? If you cant reach the registrar by phone Ill suggest to go tho the school personaly.

Yes, they started the assesments for FS1, my DD had it today. They had a form to fill in and one of the questions was if your child was able to use the toilet sprinkle or to wipe their derriere after using the toilet? Just thinking an almost 3 year old is a bit young to do it independently...just mi opinion! edited by calili1971 on 28/11/2012
