I had mine done about 4 months ago (brows) I love them, so glad I don't have to pencil them in everyday... I went to an Iranian lady in a salon in JLT. She does the individual hair stroke method and it is 1000aed...

Yep... Colours/bleach and developer are not too expensive even the good ones..... It is mainly the time that it takes to do (if done well) which is what you are paying for.... and of course salons have rent/water/elec/licences/wages etc to pay for....

Wowzers... I am a hairdresser and toner is defo included in price of highlights.... Glad to hear that you got your money back... It always seems the way out here, in the fact that you have to go to the top to get things sorted! I bet you nearly passed out when they told you the price haha

I am a hairdresser, and I find that a lot of the salons out here are very over priced... It does all depend on the length of the hair.... For short hair half head highlights cut and blow dry, I would say a fair salon price would be: 550aed Medium Length: 600 Long: 650 Hope this helps :-)

I am a hairdresser, and the reason why hair always looks so good after a stylist has done it is because we really work the hair, turning the brush a lot when drying. There should be no need for any products if you do a good blow dry. My advice for people at home drying their hair and trying to get volume is: blast dry your hair on a hot setting with your head down until all of your hair is dry. This will give your roots volume. Then put your head up and blow dry the ends smooth with your brush, and finally put your head down again, use the hot setting for 1 minute and then blast it with the coldest setting. Hope this helps :-)

Thanks for your advice. I found it strange that every time he goes back to nursery he is ill again.... But most people say, its normal for him to be ill a lot as he is around other children and germs spread etc.... It just seems that we are paying a lot of money to send him nursery, however he seems to be at home more than he is going....

Hi, I am an avon rep, and yes you can. They don't ask to see passport or visa.... They just ask you to fill out a form with general info and that is it... I am sadly going to have to give it up as I just don't have time to deliver products and drop of brochures as I have a 4 month old and a 2 year old, and here in Dubai most community's are quite a long drive away :-( I have quite a few customers if you want to take them over let me know if you register with Avon and I will forward them on to you :-)

Hi ladies, I have a 20 month old and a 2 month old fully formula fed. For both of them I used Masafi bottled water for their formula and they were both fine with it. I boil enough for roughly 3 bottles and leave to cool. If I am in the house I warm up the water in the bottle in the microwave for 20 seconds of so before I feed him. If I am out I usually just give it to him at room temperature unless I am somewhere where his bottle can easily be heated up. Hope this helps :-)

It is always good to give constipated babies sips of cool boiled water in between feeds, it really does help. I have a 20 month old, and a 2 month old. I always used to give my 20 month old water in between feeds, and I also give it to my 2 month old now. They have never been sick or ill from it. Hope this helps :-)

Hi AJW, I live not far from you in Layan Community. I have a 20 month son and a 2 month old son. I used to take my 20 month old to a place called Extreme Fun in Motor city which is just up the road from you... They have a toddler soft play area, and there are always other mums and toddlers there in which your daughter could play with... Its 35aed an hour. Has a little cafe there as well so you can chat with other mums etc. :-)

I have read online that the instruction manual does say from 6 months.... I dont have the manual as I got mine second hand off dubizzle.... I really dont see why it can only be used from 6 months on wards though... It reclines fully, and it molds to the babies body making it cosy... I am happy with it... I guess it just all depends on what you want for you baby. :-)

mum2girls, thank you! Yep the whole experience was terrible, but that god me and my son are healthy. We paid so much money to them as we didnt have insurance and we expected a lot more from them.... I understand that it is new and may have teething problems, however this is a hospital not a restaurant and you cant make mistakes like they did when it comes to peoples health. I wont be going back there again....

lol I was also there on Friday, and there was a birthday party on. We were thinking about having our sons birthday there too. Dont think we will now though, bit too manic. Staff looked so stressed out, leaning over with their hands in their head lol! Felt a bit sorry for the women on the cash counter, she looked like she was about to have a breakdown!

I delivered my son at Saudi German Hospital and the whole experience was terrible I have made a complaint to the CEO and am currently waiting a response. I heard that there have been quite a few complaints... I posted my complaint on the pregnancy section to see if anyone else had similar issues with the hospital, here is the link to my post... http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=188787

Hi Micko, My son has just started going to wonder years nursery in Sports City off Emirates Road. I must say he loves it, and the staff are great. I was very nervous about sending my son to nursery as nobody else has ever looked after him except for me. But the staff are great, make you feel very comfortable and relaxed. Honestly don't worry at all, you little baby is still very very new and he is still used to being inside your belly. They sleep and eat for a quite a while before they do anything... The internet is good for a lot of things, but can be bad for things like that especially for new mums as it does make you paranoid... You have to remember that every baby is different and will do things in their own time. A little bit of tummy time is good every day for a little while, for their strength. It is normal that they cry after a little while. Honestly just enjoy the peace and quiet whilst you can! lol, you can have my 20 month old for a day if you like and I am sure you will be glad to hand him back hahaha! :-)

Hi, I have a 20 month old and a 2 month old. With my first son I bought loads of stuff, stocked up loads on number 1 nappys, bought loads of cute little outfits, little shoes etc. With my second I was definately more sensible as when they are babies they are literally always in just vests and babygrows. My 2 month old has maybe worn 2 outfits for special occasions thats it, as they are not comfy. I would maybe buy 6-7 0-3 month baby grows and vests to start off with, as if your baby is anything like my little boy he will outgrow them in a few weeks. My boy is 2 months and is nearly ready for 6-9 month babygrows. The newborn stuff is really tiny, so I probably would only suggest to maybe buy 1 pack of babygrows and vests, I would even suggest to just buy the 0-3... They may be a little big but at least they will last. Dont go overboard with the number one nappies as they soon move on to the number 2 ones. I have loads of number 1 nappies left over.... Hope this helps :-)

That is all they do at that age... Eat, sleep, and poop. Babies don't really do much until around 4 months. When its your first baby I know what its like as you cant wait for your baby to start doing things, but be glad of the rest as the older they get the more active they get and you wish you had 5 mins to yourself lol. I have a 20 month old and a 2 month old. My 2 month old has just started smiling and laughing when I tickle him, but other than that he just eats, sleeps and poops....

Its so expensive isnt it... My husbands medical insurance through work did not cover maternity to we had to pay for it all as well. Our son was in special care for 2 days as well, so we paid loads.... We went to every hospital here to find out which ones were good and which were the cheapest.... Medcare isn't too bad on cost.... Don't know about Drs though. I know that Medcare will see you at 32 weeks, as we went there around 34 weeks and they would let us register for the delivery package. Saudi German do not have any community Dr's at the mo in which you can have them deliver you there, you can only choose from the OB/GYN Dr's that already work there...

FlyDiver I totally agree with your comment. It really does depend on who you get on the day.... If I am honest if I have another baby I am going to go back to the UK to have it, over here it just seems like they don't give a rats A*** We had no insurance and spent so much money, and expected to be treated so much better here but that was not the case. I had my first son in the UK and I have to say it was 10 times better, I dont care what anyone says about the NHS I cant fault it...

Hey Evelyn, The ob/gyn you probably were seeing was Dr Nibal. She was the lady that delivered my baby, She was the only good thing about the hospital, she was so friendly and he part of the job was excellent... Since I complained I was told that she no longer works there, her husband was the CEO of the hospital and he has also recently left... Makes me wonder why they left.... If I was you I would go to a hospital that has been open for a while, obviously you hear bad stories everywhere, but all of the staff at saudi german are new, some have only just come to dubai, and its a bit all over the place in my opinion at the mo.... I heard good things about City Hospital, and I had an appointment with Dr Jennifer at Welcare hospital the other day, she is an american lady and I cant tell you how nice and friendly she is. I felt so relaxed speaking with her. I also found the service in Welcare hospital to be really good... Hope you pick the right one :-)

Hi Evelyn, I had my baby there on the 24th June. Must say I was really disappointed with the whole experience. From starts to finish they were very disorganised, the guy who did my epidural couldnt do it after 3 attempts so had the get the head anethetist who managed to do it straight away. No follow up appointment was booked for me or my baby. Nobody called me about the newborn screening results. Two days after delivering my baby I had to go back to the hospital for a quick check of my son as he was a little jaundice, the doctor couldnt be bothered to see him and walked off.... I have written a complaint to the hospital and I am waiting for a final reply. If I am not satisfied I am seriously considering on taking them to court for numerous reasons. I have also heard that there have been quite a few complaints... Sorry to put you off but I wouldnt want anyone to go through what we went through. I understand that they are new but they are way to disorganised for my likiing especially when a hospital is supposed to be a place you can trust with your life....

Hello Ladies, I am a little gatecrasher! Only just joined Expat women. I have a little boy who is nearly 16 months, and I am 31 weeks pregnant with another cheeky little boy. My Due date is 28th June. Had terrible terrible morning sickness felt like I was going to die from 6 weeks until 20 weeks, and now I am just tired and achy all the time. Oh the joys of pregnancy lol. I live in Jumeirah Village Triangle just behind the springs, so I went to the Rosary Medical centre in the Springs for my scans and saw a doctor called Dr Mohamed Yousef, he is lovely and really takes him time and explains things to us. He is going to deliver our baby at the new Saudi German Hospital which is very handy that it is now open as it is only a 5-10 min drive from our house. Is anyone else delivering at Saudi German? Hope all you ladies are feeling well. Carly.
