If I were you I would maybe look at temporary accommodation whilst you wait to hear which school the children will be in. Not ideal I know but the school day starts so early here anyway and the traffic is so bad in some areas at peak times that I'd recommend the shortest school commute possible! Do you have a shortlist of schools yet and do you know where you're husbands office will be? There are a lot of lovely compounds all over the city with your budget but I wouldn't want to commit to a rental contract until I knew the school route!

I had a delivery with no issues a few years ago. I can't remember exactly when but maybe within the last year, I recall there was a huge fire at the UK Asos warehouse. It was on the news that they cancelled a lot of orders because of it. I assume it is all up and running now, but it may explain why there is a lack of recent comments about it.

Hi Ladies, Does anyone live on one of the Jelaiah compounds near the Canadian Vets and Little Genius? The new villas they are building look to be moving on with some speed. Does anyone know when they will be ready for tenants? Or if they are building another pool? We really liked the villas at Jelaiah 2 when we looked last year but were put off by the fact you had to walk to one of the pools on the other two compounds there as I would have had a toddler and new born in tow! TIA

Airbnb.com has some apartments listed in Qatar, reasonably priced, may want to check there Thanks everyone for the suggestions, especially joos! Am I the only one who hadn't heard of Airbnb?!! Everyone else I speak to knows it! Great suggestion and have found what looks like a fab 2 bed apartment on The Pearl for two weeks at a similar price to some of the cheaper serviced apartments.

Thanks for the replies. I have tried loads of places. So far the cheapest seem to be The Dunes and The Governors at around 12000qar for two weeks, everything else seems extortionate, some of them are 18000-24000qar for two weeks.....i think the Fraser suites and Kempinski were among those :-( yikes! The problem is that to get the better rates you need to let long term. We would just rent a hotel room but bad timing as always we have visitors coming at the same time so need two bedrooms. I'll give airbnb a go

Hi Mollydolly, Thanks for the reply. You've answered my main concern! My first choice had always been The Pearl but we need a 3 bed apartment. We handed the notice in on our current accommodation 2 months ago. Between then and now the rents seem to have gone up 2000qar a month. Al Gassar were offering a good deal so it seemed like a good back up plan. However my main concern was that the deal was so good that when we came to renew next year we wouldn't be able to afford to stay and I don't want to keep moving. We made an appointment to sign the contract but at the last minute we got a call from an agent about an apartment at the right price in our preferred location of The Pearl so have signed to go there. I love the facilities at Al Gassar though!

Hi, we are considering moving into an apartment at Al Gassar Residences at the St. Regis hotel. Does anyone have any experience of them? Do they feel homely and have a sense of community or does it feel like living in a hotel? It we have also looked at some apartments at The Pearl but I prefer the facilities provided by Al Gassar. We are a bit torn, can anyone help? Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply. I have seen one of the Jelaiah compounds, which was nice but I was put off as you had to walk to one of the nearby compounds to use the pool. I will look into Al Areen Gardens, I like the location. I have been put off Al Jazi Village 2 as I've heard lots of people are always coming in and out to use their sports club and the facilities get too busy because of all the clubs? Ideally I would prefer to be on the Landmark side of the expressway in a quietish compound. Do you have any suggestions on that side? Thanks
