Just a thought, but are you a regular at any particular jewellers...? I used to be a regular at a particular one and when I got married I was trying to have something made but he couldn't get it quite right. My lovely jeweller lent me some of his display for the day...! Might be worth a cheeky ask if you get on well with one!!

Gorobattie, I have to disagree, she may well NOT have chosen to go down this path. She may be an adult, but that doesn't mean to say she should be blamed necessarily for her actions and thought no more about... do you have children? I do and if someone threatened them I would walk smilingly, and willingly down a blind alley with a known axe murderer... who knows what this poor maid may have had to do. I know it's easy to assume that she has cheated Ginnee for her personal gains, due to so many 'nightmare maid' stories we hear, but until she is found and the true story comes out, I think everything should be done to find this girl. For example, is it 100% certain that the 'cousin' is in fact an actual relative and not like the 'aunties' (maid mafia) that some Sri Lankan maids have? Just because there was no reason to doubt it before, doesn't mean there isn't now... Just another thought...

I think it is very considerate of the OP to ask what might be appropriate, so specifying the Nationality in her question is very significant. Some nationalities 'expect' gifts, for some it is not normal, some like cash, some frown upon giving cash... it's nice that someone cares enough to ask and doesn't just assume and then maybe make a faux pax...!
