I've got two cats, one comes across a grumpy, he isn't, and I think my other cat could be the most cutest. How do I put pics on here???? I don't think you can put them up here directly. You can post them on some other image hosting site and just share the link with us.

Well according to Islamic rites meat needs to be pure and clean, so hormones are a no-no. if companies won't comply, they will lose their certificate. Had some people from USA tell me the meat here at McD tastes much better than back in the States. Marroosh, are you saying that the food served at McD's, Hardees and the likes is actually of good quality? I won't debate the use of hormones as I haven't done that kind of research but the food has to contain some form of chemicals (possibly applied after the animal has already been ground up and turned into a burger). Also, I don't think these large corporations are much interested in the animal's well-being or health prior to its death (and if they were the food at these joints would be much more expensive, wouldn't it?). There are more and more obese people here and whenever I pass by any food court I see little obese children engulfing numerous burgers and fatty fries. As someone has pointed out, the body shapes of little boys and men do seem a tad bit odd (enlarged breasts and wide hips). [u'>[b'>I think something has to be causing this. [/b'>[/u'> Um yes - how about eating all the wrong kinds of food and being lazy arses that do little or no exercise or even walking? What I meant is that their shape looks off as if they were fed copious amounts of female hormones. Someone else mentioned it on this thread earlier on (I'm too lazy to look for it at the moment). =P

Not strange at all about the homework part. The kid is only 5! As for the in-class work, I suppose it would be a little odd if no work was brought home at all throughout the year in the form of drawings or some handicrafts, etc. Perhaps the teacher has the children leave it in the classroom for display?

Still think Snoopy is the cutest cat in the world. http://snoopy409.tumblr.com/ An exotic shorthair and how I want one! Me and my DS are officially obsessed.Went to the petshop and they said they were sold out of exotic shorthairs as they were a very popular breed. Oh, I have seen this cat around A LOT on the internet... Had no idea it's called Snoopy.

What???!! Not yet a recommendation for Revenge???!!! REVENGE IS AWESOME!!!!! :-) I'm considering Revenge. It seems to bear resemblance to Ringer though and I couldn't stomach that. Does it have any elements of suspense? I started to watch Revenge but to be honest it got on my nerves after 10 episodes lol I saw the trailer and it seems a little superficial - the rich socialite/extravagant lifestyle theme is what seems to be putting me off.

And I can't compare. However, if the meat his is sold as halal there are some conditions. I haven't had McD in the States so I can't compare the 2, I am simply stating what people who have had both told me. Do you see me say anywhere I think it's good quality? Plus, it's not the quality of meat but the quantity that makes people obese, and the massive soft drinks and the massive fries. A piece of meat on its own won't get someone fat. edited by Marroosh on 30/09/2012 No, I'm not saying you said that specifically it's just that someone has told me that in order for meat to be "halal", the animal must (among not being a *** and some others) have been fed a natural high-quality diet, not been fed hormones or any type of medication, be kept in hygienic conditions. Now, if these conditions were met then surely, the meat could be considered organic (note that organic does not signify free-grazing). I don't know how it is on Halal farms here but I know that what goes on in a lot of Kosher farms world-wide is very far from Kosher.

To add to what Cheezu has said, let's get rid of this word 'diet'. Because what you need is a lifestyle change. Eating healthily and eating well should become habit, not a fad. Most people I know who are 'eating' to lose weight are consuming 5 small meals a day of good healthy foods. This boosts the metabolism and stops you going into those slumps. Also drinking plenty of water really helps to balance everything out. Secondly - throw the scales away! People get too hung up on how much they weigh and it varies to wildly from day to day it can actually be counter productive. Go by how you look in the mirror, how you feel, how your clothes fit you. Also let's not do a 'little' exercise, ideally we need to be doing at least a good 30 mins of vigorous exercise a day. Cardio and weight work is the ideal way to shift extra weight and tone up. If you combine that with a good healthy eating plan, you should start to see results in no time. Invest in a personal trainer or do some of these boot camps where you're not alone and get encouragement from other people looking for the same goal. Yes, exactly what I had in mind. I hear too many people talking about their "2-week" or "1-month" diets, after which they go back to their old eating habits and expect not to gain any of the weight back. Eating healthy should be one's lifestyle. As for the exercise, I'd actually recommend an hour of brisk walking/jogging at least 4 times a week. It's not the most intensive form of exercise but it's good to motivate a beginner... plus you can listen to your iPod while you're at it. =)

I thought Halal referred to a method of slaughter and not how an animal was reared or fed on. I dont think it follows that Halal meat will not have been given any kind of hormones. I think the only way an animal wouldnt have received hormones or antibiotics or the likes would be for it to have been raised organically perhaps. I have heard a number of view points regarding this. However, can anyone here say that we are actually being fed organic burgers at McDonald's?

Hi ladies, Im new to this and im hoping i enjoy this. I did like to talk about weight loss(the most dreaded but needed topic). In the past 2 years, i put on 15 kgs( sad and shame) and now im bent on getting it off me. Moreover, i want to do it the right way, in the sense no surgeries, no body wraps etc. Just diet and a little exercise. Ok now im going to this nutritionist from the past 2 months and i managed to lose around 8 kgs BUT BUT BUT the problem is im supposed to take a break day after every week and whenever i do, i put on 1 -1.5 kgs the very next day and then it takes me another 4 days to get that off so its like i always go back to where i start. However, slowly i managed to lose 8 kgs, first 4 being water retention etc. All i want to know from u ladies, is this normal that when i eat one good meal, the next day im a kg more. Is it not right to check the weighing scale or is it my metabolism? Has anyone faced this type of a frustration? Hi, welcome to the boards. What you are indeed experiencing when you lose the "supposed" weight when you eat lighter is water weight and not actual fat (which is what we want to lose). This is why it's normal to lose and put on water weight on a daily basis - for example, if you go on a water fast one day, you are likely to be 1-2 kgs lighter the next. However, this is by no means permanent and if you eat normal that next day you will very likely put it back on. I think people spend far too much time on various diet fads and calorie restrictions. What I'd suggest is eating more healthy in general - a healthy diet is plentiful in fresh fruits and vegetables and contains very little fat. I usually get bashed for this, but I don't recommend animal products and if you feel you must eat them, I'd at least try to reduce the intake.

I think the main challenge is explaining to our kids why such food (if you can even call it that) is not good for them and why we don't want them to eat it. They are very likely going to see their friends eating it so it will seem enticing.

Modern Family! its amazing. Homeland tried it, didn't get in to it. Revenge good, Downtown ok, don't find it that interesting but the costume and set designs are so beautiful, i watch it just for that. Downton is a bit too soap opera-ish for me I guess. I do watch it but at times the characters seem a little "too good to be true" and 2-dimensional.

Good news, the drivers with the most complaints against them are going to be sent back to basic training, after that if they repeat they will be sacked, so its worth while making a complaint for anything that's not right. http://www.7daysindubai.com/school-Dubai-cabbies-worst-records/story-16990054-detail/story.html Basic training... really? Hi Greenish:)I think I am the most challenged person on the planet when it comes to finding my way around a computor.Self taught bad, habits and all. Can't tell you how many times I have attempted to use the search function or add a link.Maybe one of the computor savey ladies can help. The title is as I typed it and the date was I think the same day I posted, or the day before. The gist of it was a poster was warning EW ladies about buying from local pet shops as her friend had recently bought a puppy. The following day it was on deaths door at the vet.Not sure if the poor baby made it. :( edited by Nomad on 27/09/2012 I did a search for exactly this but couldn't find anything. "Nip/Tuck"(some episodes had thriller aspects), "Mad Men"(though not thriller is an excellent drama time piece), "Weeds" (only the first few seasons were good), "Amercian Horror Story" (yes!yes! yes!!!) and my new favorite-"Breaking Bad" (which a very kind poster has helped me get started with. My mom is like this. Whenever I talk to her (and mind you, I'm not a loud person at all) she'll stop me several times in between and ask politely, "Could you please keep your voice down?". We can't sit in restaurants where there's music playing (unless it's so soft you can barely hear it) because it annoys her. And don't even mention the television. She goes out wearing ear plugs sometimes. It seems she is just overly sensitive to sounds but I wonder if it's a sign of something (I don't remember her being like this 5 years ago). I do find it quite annoying actually.

I used whatever the seller suggested. She was designing my bridal wreath so we were in touch throughout the process. Got it delivered in no time. I wouldn't go for shop and ship unless the seller can only deliver to specific locations and not elsewhere and is not willing to make a custom delivery (some aren't).

I don't know if you're looking for something traditional or just a suit or a tux. Mine wore a light grey suit because it matched the theme of the wedding and went well with my dress. In any case, you can shop for suits virtually anywhere. Try out the malls and check the brands or cuts you like. If you're looking for a tailor, then unfortunately I can't be of much help.

I've had a look at a few old threads but they tend to focus on Catholic baptisms. My hubby and I were married at St Mary's in Dubai so we're thinking the same to Christen our baby. For those who have already done it, are we still required to go on the 'course' like the Catholic ceremonies require? The vicar that married us has now left Dubai so we would also use someone else. TIA I thought the St Mary's Church in Dubai was Catholic, in which case you would have been married by a priest, not a vicar and one of you must be Catholic to have been allowed to get married in the Catholic church? Or does St Mary's Church share the premises with a C of E congregation? Anyway, congratulations on the birth of your baby! St. Mary's church is definitely Catholic. There's the Holy Trinity church quite close to it which encompasses several other denominations.

Hi girls! Firstly, congratulations!! Secondly, yes, the course you speak about is the Baptism course that is a pre-requirement in all catholic churches here in Dubai. The parents and God parents attend it. The reason this course is mandatory because it briefs you on why so many things, that catholic parents usually do not get the chance to learn about. It also helps God parents realize what their role as God parents is supposed to be. Its a very interesting course. Enjoy it! Oh, I actually had no idea since it's not required in my country of origin.

I guess it's best to check though.

JHM I think you may have hit the nail on the head, I think she doesn't know that what she is doing hurts! (As I'm typing she is sitting beside me purring but biting my arm!!!) Does anyone think getting another cat would help or make the situation worse? (Could she get even more aggresive.....or would it help? And if so, a young kitten or an older cat?) There's no guarantee. If she's already threatened it could make matters even worse. And please keep in mind that most cats are not as social as dogs - it may take them a while (days, weeks or even months) to get used to each other which could be even more stressful for her, yourself, and your family.

Cheezu, you are not actually correct. I am from Pakistan. Pakistan is made up of several cultures and to my knowledge only one of them follows the Indian traditions of the woman paying a dowry to the man. In Islam, infact, this is Haram - and it is not permissible for a father to sell his daughter. The groom should pay Mahra to the bride, not to her family, not to her father. It is money for the bride only. The groom pays this to his bride along with gifts of gold, clothes etc. In recent years, after my marriage time, it has become fashionable to the father of the bride to give some furniture and/or cosmetics, parfum etc to his daughter to start her new life. Ok. I don't know about this. I have been raised among many Pakistanis and ended up marrying one... lol Not that he would accept dowry from me of course... We don't believe in these customs anyway. But I have witnessed it among some of my friends or colleagues who got married into more traditional families and had more conservative weddings so I think it would be quite a big coincidence if all these people happened to be from the same area of Pakistan or the same caste. Anyway, dowry was also paid from the bride's side in European countries a long time ago. <em>edited by Cheezu on 26/09/2012</em>

It's pretty much irrelevant what the laws and rules are in our home countries, and whether people in those countries adhere to them or not. We are in the UAE, and it has been repeatedly made clear through the media that doing any kind of paid job is only legal if done while employed on a employment visa, a husband visa (with NOC), working for a legally operating business. Or while owning a trade license/legally owning a business. EW forum sees a lot of these discussions going on with regards to baby sitting, maids, tutoring etc. And whether we like it or not, it's simply just not legal. Whatever we think is o.k, or whatever we like, is totally irrelevant. If people choose to do so anyway, risking huge fines and deportation, that's up to them. But we should stop endorsing it, and maybe EW should stop allowing these threads to run for so long. I know what you mean but at the same time, if enough people come together and speak against certain things, there may be a chance that they would, perhaps, consider changing them. There's nothing wrong with having a discussion or expressing discontent with certain laws. We are constantly reminded that we are only "guests" here. And yes, I may be a guest but I was also born here. I spent almost my whole life here. If it were a different country, I'd already be a citizen. Can't I at least have the right to say I may be displeased about something.

I'd so recommend watching the show My Cat from **** with Jackson Galaxy. It's on Animal Planet but you can also download it. He offers very useful advice about troublesome cats. Do not by any means shut her off. This will make matters worse. If she is attacking your kid it is most likely because she feels insecure or threatened. Try to play with your cat. This will tire her out so she won't be over-stimulated. You may be petting her in areas where it hurts, too, so she will react by lashing out. Some cats are bush dwellers whereas others are tree dwellers. If she's the latter it would be useful to install some shelves around the room where she could climb up and seek some peace and comfort yet still be a part of things, if you know what I mean. All stuff I learned from the show. =)

Our cat was the same (also adopted off street at very young age). Out of nowhere sometimes he would suddenly attack myself or dh really viciously. He would do that sometimes when the stroking got too much for him, but also for no apparent reason whatsoever. He has never done that to our kids fortunately....but has gone for the odd swipe. I watched a 'cat whisperer' show (can't remember the name of the guy), and basically he said that cats are either 'tree dwellers' - ie they like to be perched up high watching what's going on, or they're 'ground dwellers' - ie they'll find a little hole for themselves in which to feel safe/watch the world. In many cases like this when the cat is acting aggressively (assuming there's no medical/pain issue) it is because they do not feel safe in their environment, and they don't feel like they have a place that's theirs. So for a tree dweller s/he has no place up high s/he can retreat to etc. People need to look at their home and make changes to accommodate that. Strangely enough after moving into a villa our cat hasn't attacked once. He has his spot half way up the stairs from which he can look down on the living area, and that's where he retreats to if a stranger comes to the house so it's definitely his 'safe spot' - and I guess he's a tree dweller...In our previous apartment he didn't have the equivalent but we just didn't realize it. I think there's a lot in the theory as our cat has changed so much. It's called My Cat from H e l l (I don't know why that got censored) with Jackson Galaxy. Great advice, by the way. =) edited by Cheezu on 26/09/2012 <em>edited by Cheezu on 26/09/2012</em>

Not that it's relevant to this article but I just have a question. In the Islamic way does the mahr have to be offered by the groom? Because I know that in Pakistan and India (I'm talking about the practicing Muslim communities) the dowry is offered from the woman's side of the family to the groom and his family. Just wondering. That is because when India and Pakistan started to accept Islam, they maintained a lot of their cultural habits. And especially the habit of the bride offering the groom's family the dowry, is against Islam and shouldn't be practiced. The man should be offering a dowry to the bride directly. edited by Marroosh on 26/09/2012 That's what I thought. Kind of weird that a nation that considers itself so devout would continuously abuse this.

Would you call someone up for behaving badly / displaying bad manners / rude behaviour if you were out with them? For example, if you were out with friends and someone spoke badly to the waitress? Or shouted at a taxi driver? Or had awful table manners? I'm starting to get increasingly annoyed by certain behaviours when out with friends when we are at a smart restaurant or hotel, or in a cab, or just having dinner at home even. Things such as: Being patronising / speaking loudly to a waitress Demanding rudely that they bring things (such as more gravy from the buffet) Smoking at the table when I haven't finished eating and blowing in my face Getting up from the table and clearing plates while I'm still eating Facebooking / sitting on the phone while we're mid convo Perhaps these are cultural things and I expect there might be different responses but I was brought up in a household where things like cutting the nose of the cheese was not on, as was holding cutlery a certain way. I don't want to be super a*al but I do find the above mentioned things a bit irritating and a bit offensive at times. What do others think? The ideal situation would be to address the issue with them. But in the end, you should also re-think your friendship if such behaviors annoy you and keep in mind that there's a high chance they won't stop and won't get why you're annoyed anyway. Personally, I have ended a number of friendships because I couldn't stand the racist remarks these so-called friends would continuously make in regards to the waiters/taxi drivers, etc. Also, I should add that it depends on the situation. Some waiters can also be patronizing and rude in which case I wouldn't be too nice to them myself. <em>edited by Cheezu on 26/09/2012</em>

Why don't you call homelypetz maybe they hire ? But they are not licensed to walk dogs either. Oh dear! Walking dogs needs a license?? If it is to earn money, then yes. Walk the dog and accept a 'thank-you' gift of money, would that be acceptable? I think as long as it's a private transaction, why would anyone have a problem with it? I remember when I was studying for my A levels back when I was in school my parents got me a private tutor. She was a housewife but used to be a teacher back in the UK. They'd pay her by the hour. I don't see why this is so wrong and should be deemed "illegal" to be honest. Sometimes it's hard to grasp how things work here.

Nice of him to take a stand, but if it were my dad handing me over for such a low sum, I'd be furious. Is he saying she isn't worth more? http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/saudi-arabia/saudi-bride-s-father-asks-for-a-sr2-dowry-1.1081127 Why would you be furious that your father doesn't put a price on your value?!! Not just any price!!! A high price! Would you be happy if your dad sold you off cheap? "Sold you off"? Really... how can you even use such phrasing? What would you call it, Cheezu? Well, I don't think that marriage is that sort of a transaction. As mentioned in the article, the concept of dowry is purely symbolic in some countries which is what I think it should be at most. I don't see why you posted this simply to argue (unless of course you're just trolling).

So if I already have a du card I need to register it now? Have they sent you an sms telling to go re-register yet? I'm not quite sure. I don't use the du card much. Bought it a while ago when our Internet wasn't working and it was an easy and temporary fix. I suppose I'll just discard it. You can go in and register anyway if you want to preserve that number, you don't have to wait until they sms you http://www.thenational.ae/news/uae-news/deadline-set-for-uae-mobile-users-to-re-register-sim-cards I don't get it though. I thought du offered a nice solution to tourists who wanted to get a temporary UAE number on arrival (my friend who came to visit a while back did just that). Now this won't be possible. Oh well. They are doing this to ensure that who initially bought the sim still has the sim; when tourists come and buy a sim card they give a copy of passport, so this will still be ok. This is re-registering of the sim cards. Oh ok... I thought it'd mean that you have to stand in line for a couple of hours and fill out a countless number of forms. If showing your passport is enough it shouldn't be a bid deal.
