I don't know anyone who admits to using it. I would love to turn up to a coffee morning, just to see if I could catch anyone.

I think that it would depend on several things. Firstly, what was the teacher testing for? If it was a quick test to ensure that a younger child could undertand and apply a particular technique, then yes, I would have marked it incorrect. It is important to master techniques using simple examples before you apply them to more difficult calculations. Sometimes it is easy to see the correct answer without using the taught method, but it will go badly wrong when the numbers get harder. Does the teacher deserve your support for trying to ensure that your child has the best possible foundation in maths? If on the other hand, it was a formal test that would affect the child's future (secondary school applications etc) then it should have been marked as correct. The bottom line of any "proper" maths exam is the answer. You can get some marks for having the correct working out, but the wrong answer, but you should always get 100% if the answer is correct.

It mentioned in the article that you would need to take an ID card when you renewed your visa, but I'm pretty sure that the processes are not tied together yet. DH got his new visa last week with no ID card and nothing was said. He still has no ID card. Do you think that we should leave it until they extend the deadline again? ;)

I ordered a book that did not arrive. When I contacted them, they refunded me immediately. The book arrived a week later (of course) and when I tried to make the payment, they refused. The book was "complimentary". The company is fantastic, but I am not sure how they make make a profit.

As soon as my DD started talking, she had a V posh English accent and still has. Odd because my husband and I are both Scottish, and we certainly didn't mix with particularly plummy people.

Me too. I had a phone call from the delivery man, then nothing. He stopped answering his phone too! I contacted someone via the website. They promised to rearrange delivery, but that was a week ago...

I often wondered about this too. Surely there are different types and ages of water heater that have better or worse thermostats. I personally would not trust mine! Also, when I have a bath, I empty the tank. Do I heat it up again immediately to be hot for the next time, or wait until I need it? Unless you use small but frequent amounts of hot water, like in the kitchen, it must be more economical to let the tank sit at room (or roof) temperature.

I have a friend living at Victory Heights (maybe it is you)and her DEWA was 8000 AED last month (no swimming pool). She has queried the bill and had the meter checked and has now made the decision to move out. You could pay off a mortgage with that kind of money!

Our visa is up for renewal in December but we do not have an ID card yet. Do we rush out and get one now, then go through it all again in January or can we do it at the same time as the visa. Is there a link in the processes yet?

At least I think it's a rat, but it is very noisy. I'll swear it was slamming doors last night. But surely you can't put poison up there, it would be blowing through the air vents along with rotting rat carcass for months. Breakfast anyone?

Very difficult situation, Sue R's suggestion is good but that will only work with certain nationalities unfortunately. It may be worth him just biding his time and seeing if there will be a softening of approach once the RM has settled into his position. I'd advise your DH to catalogue all the events in minute detail so he has a detailed account of everything so if things do become untenable he can raise issues with head office. My DH's GM used to want to ok every letter, email decision, so my DH bombarded him with everything, cc'd him into all correspondence etc and he soon stopped asking to see and approve everything. Apart from the sheer volume of paperwork he kept sending him I think his GM soon realised that he could trust DH to do the right thing, it just took time for the relationship to develop and for the GM to trust in DH's decision making skills. edited by Dally on 08/06/2011 Exactly the same thing happened to me when my boss arrived. I cc'd him on every single piece of rubbish that was emailed to me and deferred to him on everything. He soon lost interest and got on with his job instead of doing mine. We get on very well now.

well ladies thanks for all the input! i just can't afford to spend a lot on carpets...luckily enough i found a carpet guy who is starting his business here...bought 4 carpets from him...don't know if they're "real" persian silk or not...but they feel a lot like what i've seen in shops, and cost a LOT less. they look beautiful, feel fabulous to my toes, and i doubt very seriously anyone is going to ask to see their certificates when they visit. cheerios...i'm pleased!! :) Oh do tell. How much is "a lot less" and what is his number? :)

I must admit that I am getting sick of the amount of advertising that is creeping in at the moment. I understand that EW is a powerful marketing tool, but it is a shame that we have to read all recommendations with a pinch of salt. And what is with the user name change half way through the thread?

I phoned to ask about laser hair removal and was told the same thing. However, I asked her for an estimate and she was happy to give me a price range. When I went for the consultation, the actual price was at the lower end of the scale. With a 400dhs voucher from a discount website, I ended up paying 600 dhs for a complete bikini line (probably 6 sessions with touch ups). Only had one session but happy so far!

Our Campomatic fridge broke two weeks after the one year warranty expired. The handle completely snapped off, the back split open and it leaked water onto the floor. For 100 dhs, The repair man stuck what looked like chewing gum over the crack then said that there was nothing more to be done.

Super skinny, overly groomed women are just advertising a deeply unattractive self-obsession. If you had the time and money that they have, think of all of the other great things that you could do! When my husband gets home from work, he is more interested in my mood than my hairstyle. If you are feeling depressed, it does affect those close to you. If a bit of exercise and a trip to the hairdresser lift your mood then go for it and enjoy!

Oh dear, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Plants photosynthesise during the day, when they use light energy to convert water and carbon dioxide to oxygen. The carbon fixed in this process is what "feeds" the plant, however, the plant also "breathes" just like us ie. oxygen going in and carbon dioxide coming out. During the day, more oxygen is produced than carbon dioxide, but at night there is no light energy, no photosynthesis and therefore a greater output of carbon dioxide than oxygen. Nurses would not waste their time lugging plants in and out of wards without good reason!
