I'm finding this so ironic when I remember all the people lecturing me about moving here.... Agree, and now conversely its also ironic that the sense of security enjoyed here has lead to these recent tragic incidents in the UK.

I think a lot of posters may think twice about the content of their posts from now on, even though we know the forum is public and can be read by anyone of course, even so when you post on here you have in mind that you are "talking" to other women directly rather than advertising your issues. I know its only a matter of perception really but knowing it all can go out on FB kind of changes the vibe a bit I think. <em>edited by Di@DXB on 02/05/2014</em>

Yes that makes sense, nicedaynat. I hadn't realized they had moved from Germany to Liverpool. Re: post code... I know this has already been asked but I can't find the answer. What do you put in postcode field if you live in Dubai? PO Box number? TIIA x I just put in zeros, same for credit card purchases too, that always works ok for me.

Does anyone know where the nearest police station to Dubai Marina is? The bump happened in the car park behind the 2 towers by Dubai Pearl exit. I'v searched through the Dubai Police website and the link for "locations of our police stations" shows something completely different! When I lived in the Marina I had to go to the Jebel Ali Police station near the FZ Yes that is probably the one the OP needs to go to.

Does anyone know which charities will collect? I have a lot of very good condition toys ages 3 to 7 that I'd like to pass on to somewhere that will make use of them. I know there is a charity list on here but it does not mention which one would collect and perhaps someone could save me the time of going through all of it. Just done a massive toy sort out! If we all took this to heart, no one would go anywhere. Please OP just go to the cities you mentioned and enjoy them to the full. Wear your jewellery as you normal, but as we've said, don't flaunt it and be aware of what's around you. Thanks, but the purpose of my post is purely informational. Yes, and I was just suggesting that the OP who is travelling should still go as normal but just to be more aware. I am the OP :)

I trully believe there is more to these stories than being reported in the press.... And i do not think that the UAE would issue a travel warning lightly. Agree, as far as I know this type of travel advisory re the UK is without precedent.

isnt this just such a shame as UK and UAE have such good relations .. Yes very, British police have just apprehended two suspects in the second attack. The first and more serious appears to be still unresolved. http://www.khaleejtimes.com/kt-article-display-1.asp?xfile=data/nationgeneral/2014/May/nationgeneral_May7.xml&section=nationgeneral

I'm in Dubai. Really surprised that the other person left her details - wouldn't have happened in London! I've spoken to her and she was really apologetic so fingers crossed she turns up later. So we go to the police station rather than phoning? And any police station will do? What a start to the day! You can call 999 and ask to speak to the Traffic dept, they will advise which station to go to nearest to where you are. Hope things all go well for you. ETA When you get the green slip make sure you get the insurance company details off the other party as you will need to take your green slip to her company to process a claim. <em>edited by Di@DXB on 01/05/2014</em>

Not sure about Dubai, but in Abu Dhabi you need to go and contact SAEED, who are doing the accident investiagtions on behalf of the police, unless there are any deaths or serious injuries involved. Both parties need to give a statement to the official, whereupon you will be issued with a notice, which you need to take it to your insurance company. Without that note, they will not get your car fixed Not heard of this in Dubai, is the OP in Dubai or AD?

Someone bashed my car while it was parked up on the road last night. Thankfully they have left a note with contact details and I am meeting her later. Any advice on what happens next? Is there a particular number to call the police? Do we need to go to the station? What do I need to do for my insurance company? Really grateful for advice, thankx You will need to go to the police station and report it, they do not attend accidents where there is no injury anymore, show them the note or have the other person go with you, they will issue a green slip to you which you will then give to your insurance company to process a claim for repairs. The other person will get a red slip which means she is the party at fault. It all should be fairly quick and easy at the police station.

I don't have the password to be able to check online and they won't issue another password. I really don't remember getting a password at any point. Those who WERE paying attention, did it give you a word, numbers or a mix (in the faint hope it'll jog my memory!) The online application system generates a user name and password at the end of the process when you get to the print, sign and send final page, Unfortunately its a random password generated by the system, not one you have to create. If you have saved copy of that page its in very small print under username.

I'm not a fan of Tom and Serg. Found their coffee so strong it was undrinkable and the well done hamburger was literally dripping bl....d juice. I think their meals are small for the price. The staff are friendly though. Di, their sign is VERY small, just round the corner from the SZR slip road. Must agree though, it is very popular atm. Thanks Cherry, might give it a try another time if I can find it!

Hi, I have worked for TK.but I believe I can still be impartial. It is not world class service, but it definitely quite above the average. Better prices comparing to BA or EK. mostly never on time. On board entertainment and food gets better every year. No doubt on safety.. I see flying like a bit of lottery.sometimes things go perfectly smooth.sometimes you get all the unlucky things like bad food, delay, horrible neighbouring passengers... You never know.. [b'>As long as you get your destination safely, rest is small details.. [/b'> The thing is quite a few people are not getting to their destinations safely!

Just to share my experience with TA: I flew from Belgrade to Dubai (via Istanbul) and back last week. Outbound flight was ok, no delays, on time, even the aircraft to Istanbul was the new one with tv screens in each seat (choice of movies, games, music etc). But on the way back....... They had technical problems with one of the aircrafts that was supposed to take off before our flight. So that (night) flight was delayed for a couple of hours, passengers were nervous and TA simply took our aircraft and redirected it to the delayed flight!!! And we were left at the airport waiting for their aircraft to be fixed! Nobody approached us, informed us or reassured us that we would take off any time soon. There are only 3 TA officials employed at Dubai Intl!!! We didn't get any info until 2 pm (flight was scheduled for 6:55) whan they said they would take us to the hotel to wait for another plane to fly in from Turkey as they couldn't fix the plane. And we spent 2 hours in the hotel and were back at the airport for a flight at 7 pm! The aircraft was unsuitable for a 5 hour flight, very uncomfortable, narrow seats. Then, as we all missed connecting flights, and arrived to IST at 11:30 pm we had to go to a hotel to catch the flights next day. With passport control and the fact that I had to buy visa for entering Turkey and HALF AN HOUR drive I arrived to the hotel at 01:30 am! Then I had to wake up (hardly slept at all) to take a shuttle bus back to the airport at 04:00 am for my connecting flight at 07:00 am! We were told our luggage would be on the plane with us. I don't have to tell you that my bag was left in IST, I traveled more than 24 hours to my destination and I have to pick up my bag at my own expense since they deliver it to the major airports and not outside the country of destination airport (and I live close to Belgrade, but across the border). So, to summarize: very badly organized in unexpected situations. This can't be the first time something like this has happened to them but it is the way you handle the situation!!! We should have been rescheduled on other flights to IST, if not, then we should have been given the information and a right to choose whether we want wait, cancell our flight or take it next day. It was horrable experience, felt like being a hostage at the airport. And, I wrote to TA customers service for reimbursment of the extra costs I had, and nobody replied so far.. Sad and very frustrating. I don't know what are my options. If anybody knows please advise me. That's typical, just like my case when I wrote to customer service documenting with medical evidence the injury I received from a foreign object in my meal, they did not reply to me either, and that really leaves no option at all other than to go on every airline rating website and post your experiences.

If you want to sell direct from your own company website here you would need a license, if you sell via a host online shop such a Little Majlis or Souq etc you would be covered by their local license. Actually first time I heard FB has eCommerce trading pages, as far as I know FB does not support e-commerce transactions within FB, you can only have a storefront on FB that diverts buyers to your own business website and then you are back to needing a license here if I am correct.

Yes! It happened yesterday when I recharged 50 dhs onto my phone, it gave me the new balance as having been credited, then later I found the balance was only 8 dirhams and I have not made any calls or used data. I went to the Etisalat service desk and they checked my number and said there is no record of any credit yesterday at all. They said bring the paper slip in which I have of course thrown away after getting the credit confirmed message so there is nothing more they can do! Obviously there was something wrong with the system if others have lost credit too.

If i weren't to get my passport back on time would i be able to apply for a emergency travel document? The embassy said they could issue but for one way only. However when read the embassy link that she referred me to, it said that Dubai Immigration wouldn't actually permit if my passport was sent away for renewal. Anyone any idea? Wondering even to cancel the application i have submitted to get it sent back (passport valid until June) but then that might confused matters even further! Thanks in advance :) Best email them first to ask how long it would take to return your passport if you cancel the renewal, at the "speed" they are working at right now it may take the same time. <em>edited by Di@DXB on 02/05/2014</em>

God knows how long it's going to take get my baby's passport back, they won't even issue me an emergency travel document as she has not had a passport :( I've never known it to take this long, I need to have it back before June 1st latest, and that's only 4 weeks away! I had factored that applying 12 weeks before would be more than enough, now not too sure. When did you send yours off?

Had the same experience with a consultant who is well recommended on here, he never looked up from his keyboard and did not even make an examination. Was in and out in without any idea of what the problem was or any treatment for it and paid the equivalent of 100 dhs a minute. Besides the wasted trip and money its just plain rude IMO.
