All the Brain and Learning advertising? Particularly from Valt and Pink Buddah? There is no scientific evidence that the program is anything but a huge money making scam targeting vulnerable parents and plus, it's cloying and insincere advertising disguised as concern for others. edited by dolleymadison on 15/03/2014 Agree. As soon as one threads gets deleted they persist in re posting multiple times. Aside from the fact that its advertising, I find it hard to believe that anyone would seriously think going to one of these seminars is going to change their state of mind.

It was a novelty to need to use the windscreen wipers yesterday but we don't really seem to have as much of a "winter" here these last few years, I think the weather has changed in Dubai for hotter in the winter months. I look forward to the cooler weather every year but it seems to get less cool and a shorter respite from the heat every year, I can recall a time when I needed a light jacket or cardigan in the daytime sometimes, have not needed to do that for years. Does anyone else recall "winters" of quite a few decades ago?

Hi, can anyone recommend a good car rental company for me please....am gonna take the bull by the horns and hit the roads of Dubai! I have recommenced Care Fare on here many times, used them for several months and have had no problems at all, decent vehicles, reasonable prices and no funny business like imaginary fines or salik. I dealt with the Media City office and they were fantastically helpful and efficient http://www.carfarellc.com/

It's typical of a Dubai paper to claim the world's "best." I'm always immediately suspicious. The Miracle Garden is fine. It's a bit odd and artificial by my standards but it's a pleasant way to spend a few hours outside when the weather is nice. The world's most beautiful gardens are in Britain, in my view. The British gardening tradition + British weather gives that country the frameworks for creating genuinely breathtaking gardens. My favorite is probably the Powis Castle gardens. But I also love the gardens in Japan and some of the great formal gardens in France and Italy, which are quite different from the British "natural" gardens. And there are lovely gardens in the US too. There are many different kinds of gardens across the world and it's lovely to see the different approaches to gardening. I suppose Miracle Garden does fall into one category of gardens but I certainly wouldn't rank it as one of the world's best gardens. Totally agree, it's more of a park than a garden really, I guess it could be categorized as a botanic garden and the winner of that award was The Botanic Garden Melbourne Australia last year.

There quite a few comments on here already about it http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic218597-dubai-miracle-garden--parking-charge-scam.aspx http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic217351-dubai-miracle-garden.aspx http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic215982-dubais-miracle-garden-in-full-flower.aspx IMO a beautiful garden is one that's created by nature not flowers arranged on wire frames shaped like cars, hearts and eagles in a shade less concrete based setting that looks like something out of Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. see www.emirates247.com/news-in-images/dubai-s-miracle-garden-in-full-flower-2013-03-11-1.498123 It does seem to be all the same type of flower as you say too, but many have enjoyed the experience there for sure. hth <em>edited by Di@DXB on 09/03/2014</em>

If you prefer to avoid parabens and sulphates you could use an organic natural liquid castile soap and add a few drops of lavender, rosemary and lemon essential oils, this will leave your hair clean, beautifully soft and fragrant without it costing a fortune and keep you safe from toxic petrochemicals. You can find them in the organic store, but do read the labels if you want to avoid the parabens some claim to be "natural" and still contain the chemical nasties. Or if you don't want to bother with this just use your favourite shampoo and rinse your hair off with a dilution of apple cider vinegar and water, this is good to do here in Dubai anyway due to the high amounts of chlorine in the water that could be a factor in hair loss problems quite prevalent in Dubai. ETA. Skip the Rosemary essential oil if you are pregnant. <em>edited by Di@DXB on 09/03/2014</em>

All reports say 1am but regardless of the time, the child testified that she was sent out alone, pulled towards a car, and the passerby, who happened to be policeman confirmed he blocked the attempted abduction. In the light of all that evidence how on earth is the mother allowed to drop charges.

According to this article you do need to pre-register or register on arrival before you can use the service. "In order to be able to use the service, you’ll need to pre-register (for free) at one of 20 locations identified for the purpose. “Travelers who wish to avoid waiting time at normal immigration counters can register their bio-metrics and start using the smart gate at no cost,” the company said. “Twenty locations have been identified to enroll and register travelers to use the smart gate at Terminal 3’s departure halls, Terminals 1 and 3 arrival halls, DNATA office at Sheikh Zayed Road and headquarters of Emirates Airlines and General Directorate for Residency and Foreign Affairs, in addition to immigration arrival counters at Terminal 3, which passengers use to register and enter.” Immigration counters will be upgraded to have facial and eye recognition systems and to register travelers to use smart gates next time they arrive in Dubai." www.emirates247.com/news/emirates/dubai-airport-immigration-in-20-seconds-2013-07-11-1.513918

I don't know if this remedy really works or not, never tried it myself and hope I won't have to. But I know of a couple people who tried and vouched by it. Making diabetes "disappear" with only that is far fetched in my opinion, perhaps regulating and controlling is a better choice of word. Granted, lifestyle and diet modifications are probably the best ways but I don't think it will hurt to give this a try since you are looking for natural remedies. Basically you cut the ends off of a couple of raw bhindi (okras/lady fingers) with a slit in the middle (I think some just cut it length wise) and soak them in a glass of water overnight at room temperature and drink it first thing in the morning when you wake up. Let us know if you notice any stability in your glucose level. Good luck! You are right in saying claims that will diabetes will disappear are unfounded, here's the Snopes report on this widely circulated story http://www.snopes.com/medical/homecure/okra.asp

Di@DXB thanks a lot for your advices!!! :) Of course I'm going to ask the doctor, as usual, especially for side effects and for everything else... Just in case he says I can, I'll take it. Thanks again! :) Good! I am so wary of people who tout these sorts of things, most of them are distributors working for a MLM or Pyramid scheme, are only interested in making money and have no medical knowledge but claim their products a panacea for all sorts of health issues.

Hi my experience with Aloe vera gel is really good. Bec it contains enzymes and chromium picollinate compound that helps reduce blood sugar levels. But not all aloes are the same. I take the brand of Forever Living Products - they call it STABILIZED GEL to make sure it is a LIVE juice. Aloe is very sensitive so must be stabilized to maintain its nutrients. If anybody wants, I know where to get this product. thanks for this good info. please tell me where we can buy the gel...I want to try and see if reduces my blood sugar level. TIA I hope you will consult with your doctor before taking it, there are contraindications and adverse reactions associated with its use. It does not just contain Aloe Vera, which is any case can also cause side effects in people allergic to it, but this product also contains artificial and chemical based ingredients that are known to cause interactions with other meds you may be taking as well side effects. ETA see ingredient list ( The Gel is stabilized with synthetic based chemicals that can cause a variety of reactions ranging from bloating, nausea, headache, to increased urination, irregular heartbeat and palpitations) INGREDIENTS Stabilized Aloe Vera Gel, Sorbitol, Ascorbic Acid Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate Sodium Benzoate Xanthan Gum, Tocopherol <em>edited by Di@DXB on 26/02/2014</em>

I found a temporary solution for the men's hairbrush I have been scouring everywhere for, bought a long handled body brush in pure bristle from Geant, the handle is detachable and when removed leaves a nice oval shaped men's 'hairbrush' that works very well, I would think the bristles would be a bit too firm as a body brush on this particular make whereas the Bodyshop body brushes are too soft to use as a hairbrush. Anyway DS is happy with it and it will do for now until I can buy a Mason Pearson one in the UK.

sorry Di but coconut sugar, honey and agave all contain sugar.... so your chocolate is not sugar free!!! Yes you don't have to add it if you don't want to! I included healthy sweetener options for those who may prefer a sweeter taste, just leave if out if you want bitter choc! Sorry thought that would be obvious :) Have amended the recipe accordingly. edited by Di@DXB on 24/02/2014 Thanks Di, i'll probably add stevia since it is 0 calroies and 100% natural sweetener.. will give it a shot very soon and will let you know how it turned out x Stevia is a good option too, just add all ingredients bit by bit so you can judge consistency and flavour, you can increase or decrease any of the ingredients as you please the ratios are only a guide. Have fun :)

It's so easy to make your own chocolate you will not look back! I only make dark chocs from 100% raw organic Cacao powder which you will find in the organic stores. (here's the difference between cacao and cacoa [url=http://forestsuperfoods.com.au/media/cocoa-vs-cacao.jpg'>link[/url'> You can use regular store bought drinking chocolate powder but it will have sugar or artificial sweeteners in it and be processed so not contain the full anti oxidant benefits of the raw cacao. (To go off a bit about raw organic cacao its the highest rating dry food on the ORAC chart coming in at a whopping 95,500 per 100 gms as compared to Gogi berries that only rank at 25,300.) This chocolate is actually a health food and because there's no added fat or sugar its actually good for you and completely [b'>guilt free[/b'>! So here's the recipe, I use cocao butter, you can use coconut oil but it will make a softer choc or half and half if you like . Ingredients: 100g Raw Organic Cacao Butter 6 Tablespoons Raw Cacao Powder 2-4 Tablespoons Coconut sugar or Agave nectar or honey (omit for unsweetened choc) A pinch of Himalayan rock salt - Optional Method Melt Cocao butter in Bain marie until completely liquid in lowest heat Add Cocao powder and whisk by hand with balloon whisk( metal one is better than plastic) Add the sweetener little by little and taste for preference Add the salt if using Pour into moulds Let is set in freezer for 20 mins or in fridge for 2 hours Enjoy! You can add chilli flakes, coffee, vanillia, lemon zest, orange peel peppermint essence and chopped nuts or anything you fancy for extras. For the calorie conscious each plain choc if in individual mould size will have 30 calories. ETA leave the sweetener out for unsweetened chocs! <em>edited by Di@DXB on 24/02/2014</em>

Yes, usually we just let our building maintenance do their usual filter and vent clean but we were beginning to suffer allergies so we had the aircon ducting professionally cleaned last week. After ringing round all the well known companies we found one that charged a lot less and were very happy with their work, they offer the same service, full duct clean with disinfectant and deodorising for almost half the others quotes. They provide the photos taken by the duct cleaning machine to show you the before and after too. Our system is so nice and fresh now and my morning headaches gone! Highly recommend. http://qualitycaredubai.com/ac-duct-cleaning-dubai.html

Hi EW, Where can I get Unsweetened Chocolate from? TIA You can find the cacao power unsweetened from most of the organic shops, I use this to make my own raw organic chocs. If you want unsweetened bars there are lots of sugar free ones in the supermarkets but they have some kind of artificial or other alternative sweetener which personally I don't like so the only solution I find is to make my own which can be more delish anyway plus save you money. If you don't want the hassle maybe find one of the vendors who make chocs at the markets and ask for a custom sugar free one. I think there is a lady at Arte who makes chocolates.

I would not go to Dr T for any opinion whether first second or other. I spent a very stressful and anxious few weeks after his complete failure to diagnose correctly what turned out to be a very benign problem. To top it all off his patient manners are appalling and verge on bizarre. My advice steer clear.

There are light fingered people everywhere, not only at the flea markets and car boot sales in the parks but at the regular artisans and craft markets in the malls too. Had so much stuff pinched at these events by seemingly 'nice' people and kids as well are sometimes pretty opportunistic! You need to have two people on your spot ideally, so one of you can watch out while the other deals with selling.

Why not try organic products for your new born instead of exposing her/him to all the carcinogenic and hormone mimicking chemicals in those commercial brands. You can find them at most of the organic stores. For a natural nappy cream use raw organic shea butter also avail at the organic shops, not only avoids exposure to toxic chemicals on the baby's most permeable skin area but works brilliantly as a protective and fast healing cream for nappy/diaper rash.

Appalling and unfortunately typical, just like the situation not long ago where tenants in the Springs were penalised for service charge non payments by owners by having garbage collection cut off resulting in enormous inconvenience not to mention unsanitary conditions. Its so wrong to punish a legal tenant who is paying in full for a property and its services, I would write to the media, its certainly a news worthy story where the worlds tallest building is concerned!

According to the DM, and I hope the article is spurious, 30 genetically modified humans have been created in the United States, the babies contain genes from three 'parents', 2 mothers and one father. Aside from the fact that these children carry genes from a person they will never know and inherit any genetically transmitted conditions from an unknown donor which would pass to their offspring, this also makes a complete muddle of human relationships. This alters the entire human germline, they could potentially end up marrying their genetic brothers or sisters without even knowing it. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-43767/Worlds-GM-babies-born.html#ixzz2Y86dcHec
