It is strange as the RTA says the taxis will operate at 95% over the weekend: http://www.emirates247.com/news/emirates/eid-holidays-dubai-metro-till-2am-8-000-taxis-on-road-free-parking-2013-08-06-1.516759 They say the taxis will concentrate around malls etc. but at 5am? Yes I read that, 8000 taxi on the roads and ALL are already booked up at 5am! Local news said more taxis have been designated for the airports too That's wonderful, all the taxis are sitting at the airports and we need one to get there!

That's ridiculous, it must mean half of Dubai is outta here for the long weekend! Might be worthwhile booking a private car, hang the expense and know you will be there on time. Enjoy your holiday. Private car...try Careem. But do it now! Do you have the number? 04 441 0610 They cannot do 5 am :(

Yes, it's a bit hazy not sure if that's dust or clouds. The forecast says partly cloudy or "fair" tomorrow, so at least they are not saying its "dreary" <em>edited by Di@DXB on 07/08/2013</em>

According to the US Geological Moon viewer the live status of the moon phase clearly shows it to be currently 29 day old today that would mean 29th Ramadan today not 28th. So it seem Saudi is correct in thinking they began a day late. You can look at the moon phase live here http://www.fourmilab.ch/cgi-bin/Earth?imgsize=320&opt=-l&lat=6.58742&ns=North&lon=2.86592&ew=West&alt=268&img=MoonTopo.evif

Muslims asked to look for moon tonight, It is believed there was an error in the lunar sighting to mark the onset of Ramadan http://www.khaleejtimes.com/kt-article-display-1.asp?xfile=data/nationgeneral/2013/August/nationgeneral_August56.xml&section=nationgeneral

Saudi is looking for the new crescent tonight, if seen it would be EID tomorrow making Ramadan only 28 days long, apparently it has happened before. What about those small lanterns that are around at the moment for Ramadan, they are very similar to small cages and would look pretty, I've seen them all over the place.in various shops and supermarkets.

The Snapple glass bottles would be similar too. You should find them in the supermarkets and some takeaway outlets too. http://www.3dartistonline.com/users/2633/thm1024/snapple_bottle_render.jpg

You could have a storage bench made for the garden, that would be functional and useful to sit on outdoors too. Like this http://www.popscreen.com/p/MTUzNTg2MTgw/Amazoncom-Admiral-5foot-Storage-Bench-Patio-Lawn-Garden Would not be very expensive to make I would think or maybe someone knows of a place you could buy one ready made.

You could ask the Coop Safa Park, they always have lots of pallets around the back of the store, not sure if they give them away but that's the only place I can think of where I've seen them.

Have you tried Daiso or Ikea, they both have a variety of glass containers, maybe something there that would do if not exactly a milk bottle if that is what you mean by milk jar. There's this at Ikea http://www.ikea.com/ae/en/catalog/products/30213552/ and this http://www.ikea.com/ae/en/catalog/products/00209311/ <em>edited by Di@DXB on 05/08/2013</em>

Agree with TDB, lots can go wrong if they take the stroller off you at the gate, its likely to get damaged in the hold for one thing. Had this happen travelling with DD and baby, they took the buggy off us at the door of the plane saying it would go into the hold. As we taxied down the runway we looked out the window and there was the stroller sitting forgotten on the tarmac, we never saw it again.

There's a 300 gram size ground husks make available in Supercare pharmacy and Planet Health nutrition stores, although its marked 'Whole Psyllium Husk' the actual product inside is quite finely ground not whole husks. I find it the best available, costs dhs 65 but it lasts for months you only need a teaspoon daily.

You may find things a little cheaper at White Star Bookshop at the Beach Centre Mall, Jumeirah, they are very good for party supplies and costumes too and have quite a good selection of craft supplies as well. Worth a look. On the ground floor right hand side as you enter main entrance.

Dubai Economic Dept website has a very useful wizard licence cost calculator to see what your start up outlay is going to be, of course this does not cover all costs of beginning a business but will give you a ballpark figure on the licensing requirements and associated costs such a premise rentals etc for your chosen activity. http://www.dubaided.gov.ae/English/eServices/default.aspx

Most likely this year's Ramadan will have 29 days, not 30. For the last two years, Ramadan was 30 days and I don't think it's ever happened that there were 3 consecutive years of 30 days. I hope that it is 30 days. rajab and shaban were so unlikely that it will be.... Qualified Muslim astronomers and reliable visibility forecasts indicate that on Wednesday, August 7th, the only regions of the globe that will have a decent likelihood of a naked-eye (unaided) sighting of the new moon are in South America and the South Pacific. If the moon is sighted on Aug. 7th, Eid al-Fitr would occur on Thursday, Aug. 8th. Otherwise, Eid will fall on Friday, Aug.9th. [url=http://www.crescentwatch.org/cgi-bin/cw.cgi'>Reliable?[/url'> But don't they go by seeing with a telescope, I recall last year there was an article about this being permissible?

So if Ramadan finishes on Wednesday, the private sector would have Thurs/Fri as the hol, and if it finishes on Thurs, it would be Fri/Sat as the hol? That's right I think? edited by Tattie Bogle on 01/08/2013 Yes that's right, so fingers crossed!

Hi, Any of you could translate it? http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/government/eid-al-fitr-holiday-announced-for-private-sector-workers-in-uae-1.1215253 No clue.... Clear as mud... I'll end up making very last minute plans as usual [i'>"first and second days of the month of Shawwal as Eid-al-Fitr holidays for all establishments in the private sector, to re-start work on the 3rd of Shawwal, 1434." [/i'> All they have anounced is what days the private sector will have off according to the start of the next calendar month that follows Ramadan and this is still unknown and will depend on the moon-sighting on 29th of Ramadan next Wednesday to see if Ramadan will end on 29 days or continue to 30 days. So really we still will know nothing until Wednesday.

Dear people, does anyone know where in Dubai or online shop I could buy natural organic products. I need an spf daily moisturiser, body moisturiser, deodorant, cosmetics. I am becoming rather green and concerned about the toxins we put into are bodies everyday and thought I'd try going natural. Hope you can help. Thanks Kel x Here's a useful resource where you can check products out, so many brands have jumped on the green bandwagon and use deceptive marketing to mislead about their so called "natural" products. http://safecosmetics.org/display.php?modin=50&offset=200&qty=100

Sorry no I don't know of one that does lease to buy for Toyota, maybe if you call the dealership they might do so themselves or know of one that does. Hope you find what you want :)

Unfortunatley Boots "Botanics" is not chemical free either http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/retailandconsumer/10095139/Chemicals-found-in-organic-beauty-products.html http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2334921/The-organic-beauty-products-laced-chemicals-anti-freeze-floor-cleaner.html and although Lush brands itself as "natural' their products contain these chemicals FD&C Blue # 1 and FD&C Red # 28, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, Lauryl Betaine, and synthetic perfume. Do check the labels even on brands that position themselves as "organic' so many contain just less chemicals than regular brands but are not 100% organic or chemical free. Watch out for Tocopherol, Citral, Citronellol, Farnesol, Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool these and more are all synthetic chemicals found in some of the brands just mentioned. Often you will be told Tocopherol is just vitamin E, but its not not natural vit E. Tocopherol is a synthetic version known to cause skin irritation. You can look up the toxicity risk here http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/ingredient/701383/CITRAL/ http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/ingredient/702568/GERANIOL/ http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/ingredient/702113/LIMONENE/ A useful resource http://www.ewg.org/enviroblog/2013/07/manufacturers-deceive-consumers-organic-product-names

I'd advise people to do this no matter where they're moving to, but it really is a disgrace that the wrong people are being targeted yet again. What motivation does the landlord have to pay his dues when the year's rent cheque has already been cashed into his account? And as for the agents conspiring in this 'fraud', they should be reported to RERA, locked up and deported. That might finally send a notice out to the market that these cowboys will no longer be tolerated. That's a good idea, they should be reported to RERA especially since on checking just now on the website where it was first advertised I see the flat has been re posted up again today for rent and any unsuspecting prospective tenant may fall victim if they go by what this agent will tell them and don't double check. Our friends almost lost a year's rent money and would have had nowhere to live. It's disgraceful that this sort of thing is still going on even though the agent is registered with RERA.

The dealers that do this are SIXT for Mercedes Shift Leasing for Nissan Honda main dealership for a Honda German Rent a Car for BMW, Audi I am leasing with Nissan and have a very good deal, pay less than a Tiida would cost on monthly rental on a bigger model Nissan. ETA I will try to get the contact details for the ones I know SIXT 04 347 9777 Shift Leasing http://www.shiftleasing.com/html/contactus.html German Rent a Car http://www.germanrac.com/english/contact.aspx Honda http://www.hondafinancialservices.com/leasing <em>edited by Di@DXB on 29/07/2013</em>

Agree Car Fare are excellent and they also have an office in Media City if that end of town is nearer for you. Another option would be lease to own, there are several companies that offer deals that give you all the perks of leasing and you own it after 3 years. It makes more sense to me than just leasing, for the same rental you end up with an asset rather than have just paid to use a car. I am doing this now and paying less per month for a higher class car than I was just renting.

Hi Just wanted advice, can pillows and duvets be put in the washing machine ? I have a couple of pillows/duvet that have cotton inside but the white cloth covering them has turned pale yellow with stains. Unfortunately there is no tag to show the laundry signs/icons but was wondering what will happen if I put them in the machine for a 30 minute "quick wash" setting in my LG machine If someone can share their prior experiences ? thanks in advance I wash my duvets but they are not cotton filled so would not recommend it as they would probably go lumpy. Also they may be too heavy for the machine when they get wet if its a big duvet. Better send to a laundry to dry clean.
