Check out this thread there's some advice from garage sale pros http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic181611-any-garage-sale-experts-out-there.aspx As far as where you will sleep after you sold your beds I would guess a hotel or a friend's house. And how long it takes to sell everything is pretty much a difficult question that's going to depend on so many things, you might be lucky and sell it all on one day, I don't think anyone can answer that question. For the stuff you want to give away call Take My Junk they will remove all the bits you cannot sell. http://www.takemyjunkuae.com/ Good luck. hth

Looking around at different weather sites they all seem to predict different things ranging from extremely hot to rainy and cloudy and cooler. Funny how they cannot agree to one thing when presumably they are all looking at the same satellite information. <em>edited by Di@DXB on 18/04/2013</em>

Undeliverable parcels go to Karama as far as I know, there is a dept there which keeps them for about 2 weeks then either returns to sender if possible or destroys them. If all else fails better go to the General Postal in Karama and ask about that dept.

All I can tell you is that if its fallen into the hands of Empost you are going to need the tracking number and even with that it takes endless effort to get them to work. I spent 10 hours yesterday waiting for them to deliver as promised between 9am and 3pm, finally after six calls to the supervisor they turned up at 7.30 pm and they probably would never have even come at all if I had not bugged the heck out of them. Sorry I cannot be more helpful. My advice is never use the post. I could cry, one of the items is a bespoke dress I've had made for my 30th birthday, it cost a small fortune, If I'd known they wern't going to courier I wouldnt have ordered :( That's a shame! If you have the tracking number have you tried tracking it on theTrack/Trace website? I find it works better than the Dubai postal service tracking. It covers all post parcels worldwide, perhaps some useful info will come up to help you find where your parcel is located in Dubai. Also have you also been to your PO box to see if there is an advice slip there? http://www.track-trace.com/post <em>edited by Di@DXB on 16/04/2013</em>

Thanks Di, could you also advise where from I can get the Argan to mix with? Much appreciate the advise. The one that comes with Argan is ready mixed or do you want to make your own?

First husband gave me a motor mower and a whipper snipper for our first wedding anniversary: deal breaker!!!!! Stuck it out for five more years - should have read the signs and got out earlier!!!! Hahaha That reminds me of my 1st anniversary gift, a kitchen apron! Needless to say I did not cook him dinner that evening. Clearly the first gift a valid sign of what is to come. Errrm - I got NOTHING for my birthday (30th) not even a card. So I went out a bought a Kitchenaid and gave him the bill. Oh and nothing for Mother's Day either. Charming. Had he forgotten or just ignored that's the point. This thread is very insightful, but seems you are not alone if that's any consolation.

hi Di@DXB, thank you for this. Definitely sounds worth trying. Where can I get Shea butter as you dscribed below? Maybe in Organic food and cafe? Is it still open in Dubai Mall? Or maybe those shops with natural supplements? I have not found a raw live one recently at Organic Foods and Cafe, It is usually available at the Ripe Farm shop, call them first to check, they sell out very quickly. It comes in two options, both are live and raw, one is whipped with Argan oil and the other is just as it comes from the nut. I use the Argan whipped one for my face as its easier to apply and absorb. 04 379 0441 Just a tip for using it, you only need the tiniest bit, let it warm on your hand a little and then its spreads and absorbs a whole lot better, and avoid dipping your fingers into the jar since its live and unpreserved to keep it pure use a cotton bud to take the butter out each time, one cotton bud amount is plenty for your whole face and neck.

Sorry but I would be a bit reluctant to offer dips to guests, I would not want to share a bowl of dip with other people in case anyone double dips. The Journal of Food Safety, found that one double dipping added almost ten thousand bacteria to the food. Don't mean to rain on your parade but unless you are making individual bowls for each guest the thought just makes me cringe.

If you prefer to go the natural route Shea butter has naturally occurring retinoid and stimulates production of collagen and elastin as well as being wonderfully moisturising and will not expose you to all the toxic chemicals found in commercial creams. The list of Shea butter benefits goes on and on, its highly anti inflammatory and healing, alleviates dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis, soothes sunburn, helps prevent stretch marks, softens scars and rough skin particularly effective on dry heels and elbows and reduces age spots and gives instant relief for insect bites and stings. You really cannot go wrong with this stuff, it’s a true miracle of nature. I use it and get complimented al the time on my youthful looking skin. Just make sure you get a pure raw live Shea butter not a commercially processed one that has had the life stripped out of it.

They bring their own vacuum machine and a steam mop. They also bring a ladder for cleaning the a/c air vent. They clean inside the closet and kitchen cabinet. The 2 points i deduct is they didn't clean behind the door of the cabinet under the kitchen sink. Maybe they didn't think i would look there or maybe not enough time. They suggest 5 hours cleaning for my apartment but it was not very dirty and it was an empty room with no furniture or curtain so i told them 4 hours. As for bathroom the faucets and mirror are shiny but if you have mold on the tiles they cannot do much. Hi KamW, thanks for the info.. i am looking at similar services and need some one to clean the appliances too before we move in.. if i may ask, how much did they charge? thanks I would like to the price too please?

There is no national dress as such, but traditionally not so long ago a classy lady would wear twin set and pearls as seen on Lady Diana in her early days, or you could go for a laura ashley type frock or floral skirt and dressy blouse.

stuff the inside with bubble wrap - or somethign similar - to keep its shape and put it on the tray in the dishwasher ie so that it can't get 'spun around' but will still get a good clean Interesting, do you also put the powder in the machine? I have few hats that could do with a clean.

Seen it in Spinneys, Geant and Waitrose, you should have no difficulty finding some. I thought those were fake? I'll have a look at them, though, thanks. I bought a packet one made in Italy, seemed to be the real thing to me.

reason for us was the constant earinfections, which was always solved with antibiotics..(which is also not good). Dr suggested the grommits and we did it. No more antibiotcs and no more earinfections. she di have a check up and grommits are fine in place still. What I understood is that they will fall out from themselves, no need to take them out. Agree with Salamander. Same reasons for us. The grommets fall out naturally. Same reason for DS and the grommets fell out by themselves too.

DS had this done in the UK when he was about 10 years old, this was a while ago, he spent one full day in the hospital, had the proceedure done under GA in the morning and was allowed home late afternoon. No negative side effects or pain afterwards, he was only a bit woosy from the anesthetic for a few hours. <em>edited by Di@DXB on 14/04/2013</em>

I ran into the same problem at Ikea when I wanted to return an item the next day that I had not opened. I was offered a credit note which I had to spend within a short time limit, being far from Ikea and having already made two trips in two consecutive days I was forced to pick up things I really did not need to spend the money. Will not shop there again.

Bumping this thread as Joseph made and installed our curtains last year, and we have moved to a villa. The number I have is not working. Curious if anyone has purchased curtains from him recently as I would like to have our curtains altered. I called him a few months ago asking about alterations and was told he is not interested in doing those any more, however you could try perhaps he has changed again to do them.

Had an appointment with the hairdressers the other day, got there and was told she is not coing in till later and since she was fully booked the rest of the day could not fit me in later on that day. I had gone out specially for that appointment and just wonder why they could not have called me to let me know my appointment was cancelled, no explanation and clearly they knew already she was not appearing when I walked in. They always call me without fail to ensure that I will be keeping the booking. Obvioulsy no priority for client's convenience, Would you go back to a place that did this to you? I'm really a bit annoyed. Also while I'm on the subject can anyone recommend a hairdresser who can actually find me a new style that suits my face and age, not just someone who cuts or trims what I have already? edited by Di@DXB on 14/04/2013 Ali at Salon Ink Donna at Roota Barsha Thanks will give Donna a try, I think that's the nearest to me :) Tell her Sarah recommended you I use her and have for a long time with no issues Will do, cheers!

A print shop outlet such as Desco would do lamination, alternatively if that works out too costly for just a few cards you could get a laminator and make your own, I would think the price of having it done at Desco would be the same as the price of a home laminator. We make flash cards at home, bought the laminator in the supermarket it was really inexpensive. Desco locations see here http://www.descoonline.com/contact-desco-copy-and-print-center/ hth

I wonder what the effect of a nuclear fallout/leak in Iran will be on people living in Dubai? (Praying it doesn't happen) but just wondering.... According to the article below in GN there are real concerns that any fallout could effect desalinated water plants across the Gulf region. The extent of any fallout may not been immediately known, just as happened with Japan's recent incident. Gulf officials are urging Iran to be transparent. We can only hope they will take heed. http://gulfnews.com/news/region/iran/earthquake-increases-worry-over-nuclear-iran-1.1168932

Have always bought my car here in the past but this year went for lease to own and I get the best of both worlds, all the perks of renting such as no service worries, don't have to bother if I have topped up the Salik, replacement vehicle in event of breakown etc and the option to own the car at the end of contract. I have a brand new car from the showroom just as if I have bought it the usual way. Its explained more on this thread. I am more than happy with this deal particularly since the down payment was nothing like as heavy as it would have been though a bank loan for outright purchase and the installments works out cheaper than a rental. http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic197512-brand-new-or-used-cash-or-loan.aspx

This would be great but wondering if it will really be an option with rent cheques on all properties or will it be up to the landlords or agents to opt in. Cannot see them volutarily giving up the post dated cheque system as it provides them so much power over tenants. http://gulfnews.com/business/banking/direct-debit-system-will-change-mode-of-payments-1.1168599

Was there a can of Red Bull on the shelf ? Seriously though - quite likely someone walked by prior to you getting there, fiddled with something and then didnt put it back quite right, objects shuffled up against each other, jostling back into place, tillllt in slow motion and plop! (I am a scaredy cat and have actually thought about stuff like this to help me realise its basic physics at work so that I dont jump out of my skin over nothing!) lol, seems not only Red Bull makes you fly!

Just this weekend I saw 5 huge road accidents involving 2 or more automibiles. They really need to lower the speed limit. 120-140 kph is way too fast for the amount of cars on the road now. It was fine 10 years ago but as the population is rising, the speed limit should decrease. Back home in Chicago the highway speed limit is 55 and you can go at 65, which is 100 kph. Going from here to there it seems slow but it's definitely more safe and you can keep the car in control. [b'>One main reason accidents happen here is people dont keep sufficient distance or change lanes abruptly, [/b'>both of these can be lethal at 100 or 130kph. The speed limits are fine the way they are IMO Totally agree, I so hate it when cars drive virtually on my back bumper, do they not teach people to keep a safe distance at the driving schools here or are people just stupid? And changing lanes at the last minute too, wonder what is in these people's heads, not sure it could be a brain!
