Over the last six months I have called a taxi to my address about 5 or 6 times, out of that I have had 4 no shows.

I have also had nightmares with them this week, culminating in 2 no-show taxis that were pre-booked to take 8 guests to airport this morning. Dubai Taxi cannot claim that Friday at 7 AM is a peak time! Huge panic and limited help from "customer service agents". I have definitely seen a decline in service since arrival in Dubai in 2011. If people would like to post details of terrible experiences (specifically relating to huge delays and no-shows, to keep the focus) I could write them up into a story and submit to 7 Days-- perhaps more effective than letters? They could print it as a "citizen reporter" piece or use it as a basis for further investigation. Count me in too, and you could ask everyone to give you an idea of how many 'no shows' they have had in the last 6 months for example so you have an idea of the percentages, I doubt there's many on here who have never experienced a no show to a call out to their address.

But they were ranked in the Top 3 for Best Taxi Services by Trip Advisor! We must be the problem. LOL! Seriously though, do most travelers book a taxi for pick up? I think their experience might be limited to the malls, attractions, and if they are staying in a hotel (likely!) the concierge will arrange transport for them. If I was a traveler, I would rank Dubai high as well. It's not like Cairo and the gypsy cabs, after all. edited by Beebers on 04/01/2013 Yes, that's true. There are always lines of them at the major hot spots, but when it comes to more random areas, "odd" timings, or special requests, big fat fail! Exactly, I had to drive my guest to the nearest hotel to get a taxi. Getting them to pick up a request from a private address if the problem, they just don't bother and I will not bother to try to use DT again.

I wonder if we all write in to 7 days if it will help at all? I really dont get how as a company they can even begin to think this is normal business procedures. Agree, no harm in writing to all the papers, you often see stories harvested from issues discussed on here. Something needs to be done.

I booked twice this week, one was prebooked to take a guest to the airport and on another occassion tried to call in for one on the spot, neither resulted in a taxi ever turning up even with repeated calls. It's a completely useless and unreliable service, prebooking is meaningless and they cannot tell you if one will ever arrive. So as you say it just messes up your plans. I think it's best to work on the presumption that a taxi will probably not arrive and have a back up plan particularly when you need to get to the airport. Utterly hopeless service.

I don't, but if any spider-fans are reading can you identify this beauty please? I found it in my garden today and its length was 4.5 - 5 cm long. I wondered if it's a female because the one underneath was lacking things like a body and head so wondered if it was an unfortunate male. Hi Di, just wanted to say thanks--Ripe was super easy to find, and got the butter. DH was stoked they had macadamia butter and some other hard-to-find food items. When I applied the shea, it really did soothe the skin, no more itching. I still look like I walked into a bee hive, but I'm hopeful it'll get better after applying again tonight. :) thanks! Super, I'm so happy, it's really amazing stuff when its live and raw, and has so many uses and benefits. Yes the shop has lots of lovely things too :)

Boots pharmacy do a cream and lotion for ingrown hairs, or you could ask if they have magnesium sulphate paste, and apply that to draw them out.

Happy New Year Ladies hope 2013 is fab for you all. I have a quick question regards passports UK issued. We are travelling out of the country on 1st March returning 8th March. DS passport expires 8 Sept 2013 will he be allowed entry back in UAE with only just 6 months on his passport? Im worried about sending it off now incase it doesnt come back in time for travel? TIA Egg If he has residence it should not be an issue at all, I have entered with way less than that on mine. Great thank you, yes he has residency valid until 2014 :-) Just to be double sure you could ask DRND, its some time since I entered that way and things so often change here. 800 5111 or online chat or email http://dnrd.ae/en/Customer_Care/Pages/ContactUs.aspx

Di, I should be going that route. I love the smell of that "commercial brand" and used it in the past with no problems. Now I am in agony. I was hoping to knock this out with a medicinal cream, but it sounds like you are suggesting the raw shea will help calm this. Where do you get yours? Organic cafe? You can find it at the Ripe Farm shop, they are closed to day being New Year, but I'd be happy to give you a small jar today to get you healing if you like and are anywhere near Ibn Battuta mall or MOE. It will really soothe your skin, its has natural anti inflamatory properties, its amazing stuff, I swear I have seen it take a severe nappy rash from raw to almost healed over night. ETA here's the location of the shop http://www.ripeme.com/farm-shop edited by Di@DXB on 01/01/2013

The thing about that commercial shea butter cream and lotion is that is contains synthetic fragrance and other additives that may be the cause of your sensitivity, besides that shea butter being chemically processed and all the life stripped out of it so it's lost its natural properties. I know they say its natural but its not. I would suggest you try a raw organic shea butter, it has an anti inflamartory effect, it will soothe and heal as well a provide a wealth of other skin benefits and will not cause breakouts.

I would also be a bit concerned about getting a taxi, we made an advance booking for a taxi to the airport late last night and it never came. We had booked well in advance and kept calling to ask what time it would show, all they could tell us was no driver had picked up the request. It never showed at all, hope you have better luck. Unfortunately as it was recently explained to me by Dubai Taxi, making a booking does not mean a taxi will necessarily ever appear, it only means they know you want one.

The article is a bit confusing. The hospitals are unlicensed with regards to ambulatory care, not as a whole. Yes, it could be, but the article also mentions that "health care [b'>professionals[/b'> and [b'>facilities[/b'> will be slapped with a fine of Dh1000 if they fail to adhere the principles of professional conduct adopted by the authority or if they do not operate under the supervision of a licensed physician." That would appear to indicate the physicians and hospital facilities could be operating unlicensed in additon to ambulatory care, unless this is just another badly written article. In anycase a 1k fine is hardly much of a proportionate deterrent where human life and health matters. Enlightening.

I have never found it in Oz even online, I believe it stopped being sold there about 10 years ago, it is actually a US company and they focus on the US and UK market. You will find a good choice of alternatives though locally especially if you are looking for shampoos free of chemicals and sythetics such as Organic Care. You can try that one here before you go too, it's available in Lu Lu, Geant and C4. hth

My understanding has always been that it’s necessary to wait after microwaving any food for the waves to dissipate, if you follow this method there's no waves left in the food and therefore no more risk in eating food cooked that way then any other.

I have just been through trying to sell items of furniture this week on classifieds here and Dubizzle had no takers here and on Dubizzle only annoying time wasters. My stuff was quality and hardly used and I was not asking too much at all. Perhaps its the time of year but it seems difficult to sell furniture atm. Maybe try cash converters if you cannot wait for the market to pick up. They will not give you immediate cash though, only when it is sold. And you will also have to pay for collection unless you take it to them. But if you need to free up the space could be a solution. http://www.cashconverters.ae/ hth

Instead of starting a young and particularly acne prone skin to all kinds of chemicals, why not try pure Shea Butter, its documented as being beneficial to acne and will hydrate any skin naturally as well as having a wealth of other benefits. Must be raw live organic and unprocessed, do not use commercial creams that contain processed shea butter as these have other ingredients like synthetic fragrances (such as L'Occitaine) that will aggravate acne.

Hello Di, are you European? I have friends coming in the afternoon for drinks, you are welcome to join us. We have children though. Please call me on zero five zero five five zero one six five seven if you would to join, it's a BYO affair. we are from various European countries which is why I ask. That's so sweet of you Lizziej, but woke up with flu today and feeling really awful, so I guess the day in bed is going to be best for me anyway and I would not want to give everyone my bug as a Christmas pressie. Such a kind offer though and really appreciated, thank you so much and have a lovely day!

no, I wont be alone, but I have done an alone one before. I bought myself a very expensive luxury pyjamas and tons of expensive chocolate, then me and my pyjamas spent the day in bed watching dvd's and eating chocolate:) It was fab! If you dont want to be alone there are things you could do, there must be a Church service on in Jebel Ali? Go to Irish Village? A Mall? Get some other'alone' people together and go to the beach? So many religions here that don't celebrate Christmas, so 'life goes on as usual' outside :) edited by Purple on 23/12/2012 Thanks for the suggestions, I'm leaning toward the pampering myself idea! I do enough malls in the week really and I'm not a beach person. A day in bed with a sparkly drink and all the foods I would never usually treat myself to sounds good to me.

Its just under 1k Dhs, so you need to keep it to about USD250 max, although some have managed to get things worth more than that in without being charged customs and other times I have had to pay for less so there is no real rule it seems unless it also depends on the type of item.

thanks Yorky - I ended up having a meltdown this morning (totally unlike me!) and stropped off leaving DDs open mouthed (DD had been rude as well which was the final straw!) Parked in Cinema Parking. Came out into the Village bit. Walked through to the Mall. Tried to follow signs - nowhere said At the Top or anything I recognised down in the lower ground floor. Got in a lift which said LGF (I desperately needed breakfast and coffee to start!). Went down. Were back in another bit of the carpark! Walked over to some escalators. Galerie Lafayette ones - before 10am so they were shut. Security guy sent us back to the lift we'd just come out of. Walked back into mall. And so on and so on for what seemed like forever until we fell out and I stropped off! OMG is it just me? Why is it so difficult! Finally after stropping off, walking round and round, I made it to More cafe and we made up and apologised over coffee and croissants and pancakes, and then got our shopping done! I found a helpful guy on the way out - it seems we'd parked on the level one up from where we needed to be! I truly hate Dubai Mall now! Had exactly the same experience, hate DM and will never go there again.
