If you look at the receipts you will probably find the standard terms they give for reinbursement of damaged or lost items, it may be a fraction of the actual value I'm afraid. You just need to raise as much stink as you can and hope they will give a decent sum.

She does have a nose of sorts, its a very feint shadow, the old face had no hint of nose though, so she's actually better off!

She looks very prim and proper; she's lost the long tousled hair, the rather spacey eyes and a lot of weight too. It would be nicer if she was smiling a bit more like the old EW face.

Car Fare would be cheaper than the internaional companies and they do not invent fines, have used them many times. http://www.carfarellc.com/fleet.php ETA you have to bargain with them for a better price and they have always dropped the published price when I have asked. <em>edited by Di@DXB on 04/11/2012</em>

Thanks ladies, so it all seems a bit random. Perhaps it is also dependent upon the category of item as well.

Yes, that's what I see there too, but I think I need to call up and ask as my stuff was about 500 dirhams value only. Has anyone had to pay customs on items of about 500 dirhams?

Found two brands of 'dolphin friendly' tuna yesterday, Rio Mare, Italian and Ocean Blue produced in Oman, both had the dolphin symbol. Dissapointingly some of the very well known major brands did not. Here's a list of companies that practice dolphin safe fishing. http://earthisland.org/dolphinSafeTuna/DolphinSafeCanners.html

Thanks a lot ladies Di@dxb , from where you bought this product? Its made by UK cosmetologist Shirley Conlon, she sells it at the Courtyard Organic market on Saturday mornings and at Times Square on the second Friday each month. I think the serum is the nearest thing to a miracle! If you Google Shirley Conlon Organics you will find many positive reports on her fabulous products. They are very competitively priced too. You can contact her here for further info. [url=http://www.facebook.com/SCOrganics'>link[/url'>

Good point Maroosh, will keep an eye out for the cans with the dolphin friendly sign. I cannot say I have noticed any of the brands here with that symbol, but maybe I have just not been looking. Hope it exists in Dubai. I wonder how we would check on the fresh tuna as well, the fish counter staff are unlikely to know I guess. Thanks for the tip!

Personally I prefer organic products that do not contain the carcinogenic chemicals found in commercial brands of facial products. If you are interested I can recommend an excellent 100% organic skincare range made by a professional cosmetologist in Dubai. I avoid creams that have mineral oil or contain petroleum based ingredients, these just clog your skin. If you also prefer more natural ingredients then plant based ingredients and natural oils will support the skin's elasticity. I'm using a natural serum containing Sweet Almond oil, Camelia Oil, Evening Primrose Oil, Thistle OIl, Geranium Rose, Frankincense, Neroli and Rosehip Oil, which I find gorgeous on my skin and really effective at smoothing and making it more supple

Where do you get that from? I'd like to try! You can find it at the organic shop off the wasl road, there are two kinds of raw shea butter there, one with agan oil which is for cosmetic use and the other is the plain raw shea butter without the argan oil which is what I use for the eczema and nappy rash, although I doubt the argan oil would hurt the eczema too. best to call and ask them first to make sure its in stock,. tel 04 379 0441

I find raw organic shea butter works a treat too, and it makes a perfect nappy balm as well. Have seen it heal a raw weeping nappy rash overnight. Its miraculous stuff.

I took the 3 mg tab a few times back home, and every time without fail it gave me very scary vivid dreams. This does not happen with everyone but I am told that the body does not need 3mg although the tabs come in that dose. I was advised to break it in half and take only half a tab as this is sufficient for anyones need and more than that is overdose. However even 1.5mg is still more than the body needs. A quarter of a tablet would be enough. Please read the safety data on this OTC product [i'>Over The Counter Melatonin •When taken in the correct dose (0.3-1 mg), it can be effective for shift workers and people with circadian rhythm disorders. •However, most Melatonin sold over the counter is packaged in doses ranging from one milligram to 10 milligrams, with most doses containing double or triple the amount that is needed to be effective for the population that will benefit from its use.[/i'> http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-michael-j-breus/melatonin-sleep_b_820426.html

It would not be healthy to do this for two weeks continuously you are missing essential nutrients. The problem with this kind of diet is the minute you leave it, which you will eventually as you cannot stand this food for the rest of your days, the weight will come back worse when you return to normal eating habits, I don't recommend it really for your health in the long term.

You can have supplies shipped over provided they are not on the list of items that an airline would not carry, perhaps you could contact one of the other plaque makers and ask what's available here. If you look on Arte's FB page you will find links to others who share your hobby. hth

This is really shocking. How could such a thing happen at 11 o'clock in the morning? Poor little girl has to carry this horrifying memory for the rest of her life. I hope they catch this guy soon before he attacks more children. It seems from other reports this person has been lurking around for some time, they need to vamp up security there for sure.

We had to have a minuimum of 2 beds, a minimum of a certain salary and in the case of only wanting to sponsor mother not both parents she had to be widowed. The rules is only both parents can be sponsored unless one is deceased. We also had to provide a statutory declaration from our embassy stating that she is our mother and she is dependant on us and is widowed. The case is dealt with totally at the discretion of the director of the dept on a case by case basis and he interviewed us before a decsion was made. These visas are considered humanitarian and there could be some flexibility. You have nothing to lose in trying.

sorry to bring this post up.. but did anyone experience any success sponsoring their mothers whilst having only one bedroom? If you read the rules in the link below it says [i'>"A new requirement is submission of DEWA bill and your tenancy contract showing you have adequate space in your house for your parents (minimum 2 bedroom apartment)." :) thanks again. Is it just me who finds organic produce ridiculously expensive here? I understand the reason for high prices, but some of the rates are just crazy! Yes it is really costly esp in the supermarkets, if you buy bulk from the organic shop it works out a little better.

The rules are if you make anything at home you can only sell it at the craft events, there is Arte as Sushifee has mentioned, there is the Courtyard markets, and there are all the seasonal craft fairs towards Christmas held by the schools and colleges. There are other venues such as Marina Markets, JBR Covent Garden Markets who have various locations. You do not need a license to sell at these events. It is not possible though to sell your homemade goods to retailers without a trade license. hth

As far as I know Google maps including Google Earth are not real time, the last update was in April this year. The maps can be anything from 1 to 3 years old depending on the region. Perhaps there is some other mapping download that provides real time information but I have not found one. Maybe they have someone spying on you. ETA on Google the map date is on the search results, do a search on your house and see what the date is, that may give you an idea. hth <em>edited by Di@DXB on 28/10/2012</em>

Singapore is a fine example of a country that has been successful in clamping down on litterbugs, they rigorously enforce a law that makes offenders pay $1,000. plus community servcie on the first offence and if repeated on the third offence have to wear a “I am a litter lout” sign. Consequently Singapore is a very litter free country! Signs would be a good start here, we need more of them everywhere.
