There's the weekly Bumps and Babes at Marina Mall on Thursday, you would need to take a taxi but its not far and a chance to meet other mums. http://www.expatwoman.com/dubai/monthly_events_whats_on.aspx

And I wonder who picked up all the liiter from the 200,000 water balloons that were thrown around Zabeel Park over Eid, I'm guessing not the people who threw them. Just as outspan says, labour is cheap and people are not encouraged to pick up after themselves, the water bash could have included a 'clean up the park' after party to reinforce a message of social resonsibility to all the participants. Missed oppertunity. <em>edited by Di@DXB on 28/10/2012</em>

I was amazed a while ago when a car pulled up right in front of my house and a lady got out, she immediately opened the rear door and proceeded to dispose of a lot of empty cans, packets and fast food wrappers onto the driveway, then promptly got back in the car and drove off. Seriously? I hope you reported her to the police! I would have gone outside and taken photographs of her and her car and when she complained I was taking photographs inform her they were for the police. That's if I could manage to restrain myself from slashing all her tyres and shouting some kind of vulgarity at her, and informing her I can understand why the UAE has an obesity/diabetes problem (fast food wrappers, cans etc. and too lazy to go to a bin). It all happened in a flash as I watched from the window and she was gone before I could go out to investigate. If I had seen her number for sure would have reported her. Cannot fathom the mentality.

Really sorry to hear about this for you too, I think the Creative Zone and Virtuzone licences cost around 17k, if you do a search on here there has been a lot of discussion on these. I don't think it takes too long to set them up. You must be reeling from shock and I admire your good level headed thinking. Keep strong and touch base here often though this, there's so many wonderful ladies who may have helpful ideas too.

Part of it is indoor section and the rest is outdoors but under shade. Great vibe there and I love the variety of items on sale too. Going to get there early today in the hope of picking up some chia seeds.

Yes, its possible to apply for a parent visa. The visa is only granted for one year at a time, not three like a work visa so it has to be renewed yearly. There is a deposit of dhs5000 plus other usual processing fees. They are issued on a case by case basis and there are conditons such as sponsor salary level. Here is some more info http://dubai.ae/en/Lists/HowToGuide/DispForm.aspx?ID=5 hth <em>edited by Di@DXB on 26/10/2012</em>

Is it not possible to tell this from the ingredient list? Have you tried just pureeing your own food before you season it? Of course making your own is the best, I just want to warn not to rely on brand names you know from other countries without tasting it here, as you could be feeding your baby tons of added sugar without realising it. Not everyone reads the labels when they know and trust a brand from overseas.

Here's the law in case you are interested. Federal Law No 3 of 2009 on Weapons, Ammunitions and Explosives covers all types of explosives, from tiny fireworks such as firecrackers to rockets and mortars. Fireworks have been listed as explosives and are therefore illegal and punishable under the Federal laws on firearms, munitions and explosives, articles 52, 53 and 54, Number 3 of the year 2009. possession of explosives is punishable by up to three months in jail or a maximum fine of Dh3,000.

The sale and use of fireworks is illegal here, they are controlled and cannot be sold legally except under offical license. That's not to say you cannot get them, as louisedvs says, personally I think firecrakers should be banned they are an absolute nuisance and its very inconsiderate of people who fire them off for hours on end especially late at night.

Just saw some plain waist tied aprons in Geant, not frilly though. You can buy frill edging in Daiso I think and maybe iron it on with tape, just an idea in case nothing else turns up.

Really, that bad?? I've considered getting it done for a long time--have plenty, and have since I was a tween! I figure if I am fine with tattoos I'll be okay with laser or injections. A laser is a different pain than a needle, does not really compare to a tatoo or injection. Hard to describe the laser pain, and I don't recall what type of laser they had where I went, but it was like an intense pulsing beam of power that went deep into my tissues and felt like it would never end even though each pulse was probably no more than a few seconds, it really was agony on the ankles.

I think a lot depends on the laser and the area where you are getting them done, ankles are sensitive. Maybe legs are not so painful. I would look for a clinic that has got the latest type of laser that perhaps will be less painful.

I have couple of spider veins and I am thinking to get them lasered. Did you get it done? How was the procedure? Where did you go? Can you give also a price idea, please. Would you do it again? TIA Had laser done on my ankles, the proceedure was very painful even with the numbing gel. I have a good pain threshhold, for eg had posts in my teeth w/o anesthesia. However the laser was excrutiating. Nearly passed out. I went to a clinic in JLT. It cost me about 5k for two ankles. Result not worth the pain or money so would not go again.

there was a recent email from EW about Cleanco and they charge 25Dhs per hour. Sorry can't comment on the quality, but I think one of EWers tried the service and was happy. edited by dramaqn on 18/10/2012 They charge dhs30 an hour, and although the girl was a hard worker I was not that impressed with the end result, plus a couple of things were disapointing, she messed up my satelite receiver and knocked plugs halfway out of sockets so one appliance was sparking and fused.

If you are planning a Dubai desert camp trip you need to obtain a permit. Campers pitching a tent for an overnight stay in the Dubai desert will now incur a municipal fee for the necessary permits. There are also restrictions on the area of the camping ground. http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/government/campers-to-pay-fee-for-overnight-desert-trips-1.1093052

Many on here will recommend Dr Madhu of Manhool Dental, the clinic is opposite Karama Central Post Office above WestZone supermarket. He is currently on holiday until 30th this month but if its urgent you can ask to see his partner Dr Christopher who is also very gentle. 04 3571577 ETA I have not got the exact cost of cleaning alone, I have it done with other proceedures, but he is not expensive at all. hth <em>edited by Di@DXB on 22/10/2012</em>

Not sure which kind you want. Most supermarkets have cottage cheese and Ricotta, both are curd cheeses, you may find Topfen or Quark in Waitrose or Spinneys too.

Have you also tried Paperchase, Kinokuniya, Borders or Prints? Seems a simple thing that you would expect to find, I'm amazed Daiso has nothing at all. If you are short on time maybe buy some A4 paper in the colours you want and use this template to create the bags? http://www.nexttonicx.com/blog/?p=3579 or buy plain wrapping paper in pink and black and make them with this template and instructions. http://rubberstamping.about.com/od/templates/ss/GiftBag.htm Will keep an eye out too for you.

Most of the craft events are for handmade goods, Arte for example, are very strict and will not allow items that you have not made yourself, other venues such as the winter fairs at the schools will not mind so much if you have not made the item. There will be plenty of these types of seasonal event coming up soon. You do not need a trade license for these. There are also outdoor markets in JBR and the Marina that will be starting in the cooler weather that will be open to goods of all kinds. There are occasional booths available in Ibn Battua Mall as well that are run by Covent Garden Markets who also manage the JBR market. http://www.coventgardenmarket.ae/index.php hth
