I am currently 'managing' an ingrown nail, my method which I have to say is not out there on the web as far as I know provides relief from the pain and stops it getting worse. This is what I do, last thing at night soak my foot in a basin of warm water with a few drops of tea tree oil for about 10 mins or until the water goes cold. Then dry the foot and apply a nice dollop of raw shea butter and put on a cotton sock and leave it all night. In the morning wipe off any excess and ease the nail to normal postion as much as comfortable very gently and trim if necessary. I have been doing this for about two years and my ingrown is quite tolerable. As an added benefit I find the shea butter really works a treat at making my feet soft too, often do both feet although only one has the nail problem. worth a try and will not hurt. hth ETA Ideally the the shea butter needs to be raw and live, as this will provide additonal healing and anti bacterial and anti inflamatory effect, not the processed perfumed kind. <em>edited by Di@DXB on 21/10/2012</em>

pls can someone explain where exactly one is to put the broom handle or metal?..(looking at my door and wondering..) Put it in the lower track where the sliding window runs, place it when the window is closed so it fits between the side of the frame and the end of the track preventing the window from sliding open.

Sorry for the stupid question, Basil, but what happens at the dubai end. Do Empost deliver it to my door or does it go to a PO box? If you mean for a package sent from Oz by AusPost it will go to your PO box, at least a parcel sent to me that way did.

Without knowing your exact budget I'd say go to [url=www.justrentals.com '>link[/url'>and put in a map search for the area you consider. You will see plenty of properties there. Cannot recommend a particular agent sorry. hth

My LL will not let me fit locks on the ground floor windows or doors at all even though I had an intruder in the middle of the night. I have put the metal pole on the sliding doors, but wonder if there is any other way to make windows more secure without drilling locks onto them, any ideas?

If you are really getting swamped with invites maybe limit the number of parties per child per month, and make a monthly wall chart with each of your kids names, list the dates of parties they are invited to, and tell the kids they can choose by putting a sticker on the chart which party each of them will attend up to a max of whatever. (that's up to you) That way you kids will not be angry or dissapointed so much if they have chosen the parties they want to go to. You also will have a good visual of your schedule.

I'm pretty sure you can sell anything handmade there, at previous events I've seen things being sold that were not handmade at all too. Since the thread advertising tables for the event is now gone best contact [email protected] as soon as possible.

The Skynet Oz website has been down for the last few days but its back now, no idea what their rates are from there to here, its very cost efective from this side. This should work now http://www.skynetexpress.com.au/index.asp Their agent in Australia is Toll Prioirty I think you can get rates on their website here www.tollpriority.com.au/portal/page/portal/TOLL_PRIORITY/Home Otherwise I would guess the next best would be AusPost. Here's the AusPost calculator for comparison http://auspost.com.au/products-and-services/postage-assessment-calculator.html <em>edited by Di@DXB on 19/10/2012</em>

Bloomsburys in Dubai Mall do a very nice afternoon tea, the menu is every bit as good as the Burj, not the same view of course, but not the same prices either. http://ilovebloomsburys.com/ The website says 55dhs per person-that doesn't sound enough-is it? Yes, the set afternoon tea menu is dhs55. That includes sandwiches, scones, brownies, mini meringues, cupcakes, blondies and financiers along with your choice of teas. It was really more than enough for us and they were happy to put what we could not finish into a doggie bag. Lovely staff too. ETA It is an outlet in the Mall so not a hotel type of 'champagne experience' with city or sea views or anything, but if you just want a quality afternon tea and then do the mall it would suit. <em>edited by Di@DXB on 19/10/2012</em>

My dear, this is life in Dubai. It is too hot (engineering-wise) for the construction companies to pour concrete during the day - it must be done at night. This is all over the UAE - Dubai is a noisy and bright city - this is a fact. Also, life here is 24X7 with the rest time during the middle of the day - during the heat. Often workers are asleep much of the day and working all night. This is part of living in Dubai - no getting around it. It's true that construction companies get permits to work all night, that is for open building sites where things like concrete need to be poured in cooler temps. But this case for the OP is a residential building where drilling is being done indoors at night so I don't think its something she has just got to accept if it continues on a nightly basis. She should first call the police and make a complaint and then if it persists contact DM.

I have sent a letter to 7days asking them to investigate the disappearance of American turkey products from our shelves. We are at least owed a proper explanation. My kids have turkey sandwiches every day and this is a real pain not having turkey. Have also sent a letter to Butterball asking what is going on and when they are going to return. I see other makes of turkey roasts and smoked turkey on the deli counters, are those not ok or the same? Could you not use them instead for the sandwiches, just wondering what is the difference as I have not tried either. <em>edited by Di@DXB on 17/10/2012</em>

You could try Dubai Municipality, there is a dept for noise related issues and they have set standards for the level of decibels permitted and working hours for construction, call 800 900 and ask for the dept concerned. Unless they have a 24 hour permit they are breaking the law.

The ESTA is a visa waiver in electronic version. It only provides VW eligible passport holders clearance to get on a plane to the US. When you arrive you will be given a 90 days visa, that visa is not replaceable for a work visa and it is usually not extendable. If you state intention to stay indefinitly upon arrival you could be refused even the 90 day visa, the officer at arrivals has absolute discretion to give out a visa or not. Better to job hunt and apply for a work visa.

Someone said that you can get a credit card to purchase things without getting it from a bank. They said a petrol stations you purchase them like a gift card, say for 1,000dhs more or less. you can then purchase things online using them. I know back in OZ you can buy these at Aust post. Great for teenagers when you dont want them to have your CC. Not sure if you are you asking about the card or just informing, yes there are Visa gift cards and you can get them in the supermarkets too and its better to buy them there rather than the petrol stations as the credit amount will take much longer to appear on the card but in the shops its instant when you load them. The cards can be loaded up to 3k max and cannot be topped up. There are also charges when you use them and the rates of exchange for international purchases are pretty steep. A good way to securely shop online though.

Has anyone got an answer to the OP's question? The problem is greater than finding a private contractor, I posted the name of a company who does private refuse collection, the problem is Emaar will not let private firms work- according to another poster here. So that solution does not seem to be an option anymore. I don't have the latest on this but as far as I know things still stand as they are.

Yes Jax1, I have recommended him before, the parents I know were very happy the time he DJ'd for them at their home and said they would definitely use him again. He is cheaper than most but if you want him to do a teens event at your home he is fine for that and the feedback I got was the kids all had great fun and loved the party. ETA I think he has some of his 'demo mixes' online somewhere, you could ask him for the link so you can listen to his work. <em>edited by Di@DXB on 15/10/2012</em>

I have been researching air purifiers this week, I found this article very helpful in deciding what features I need the unit to have for the purpose I need. http://www.allergyescape.com/air-purifiers.html Some units have only one of the features described here and therefore function only for that specific need, ie a HEPA filter alone which would only remove allergens and some bacteria, while other have two or more features such a carbon activated filter and Ionizer technology which are more multi functioning. hth

You can buy extra miles if you want to make up enough, I have done that when I've been just a few thousand miles short and then bought the upgrade. Depending on how short of miles you are it can be worthwhile if you want to do the upgrade.
