Just called Etisalat, the time frame is 18 months. The 16th October deadline is for the first batch i.e. those who have already received the SMS. If you haven't received and SMS, you can either wait for it, or go and re-register anyway. edited by Chocs01 on 10/10/2012 Exactly, as Emirates 24/7 reported below.

It's explained here as Oct 16 being the deadline for the first phase who have received the sms already. So for those who have had the sms they should go now to complete and the rest of us must be in phase 2 or 3 and will receive the sms later. http://www.emirates247.com/news/emirates/uae-deadline-register-sim-card-by-october-16-or-lose-service-2012-09-16-1.475536

Wonder why no public announcement has be made officially if its the 18th rather than the sms. Once again we are left in the dark over yet another deadline uncertainty. Official announcements are usually made in Al Bayn newspaper....... Has anyone read it there?

According to the Du website we still are being told to wait for an sms http://www.du.ae/en/support/mobile/my-number-my-identity and Etisalat has the same info http://www.etisalat.ae/eportal/en/generic/re-registration.html <em>edited by Di@DXB on 10/10/2012</em>

That would be a change if true, previously it was reported we will be sms'd in turn when we need to go in to re-register, where did that info come from?

Yes it's annoying to find that only very expensive imported water is offered in many places, and the reason for this is if they sell local water they are not permitted to charge more than the retail shop prices, so that's why so many of them don't have it.

The advice below is wrong. Golden Sands is nowhere near new Dubai its in Old Dubai, and I would not particularly recommend it for a single girl, go to www.justrentals.com put in short term lets and the area you want, you should find something there.

Oh thanks so much CHi2dxb, that's really sweet of you to offer, but I'm nowhere near there unfortunately. I am going to Waitrose tomorrow hopefully will get some there, if not maybe I'll ask you to grab a box and work out how I can get to you, no idea how to get to DSO!

Although this was shown to be a rumour that started circulating some time ago, its actually good to remind people to be more cautious these day especially in view of the violent robbery that recently occurred.

When you say Skynet provide boxes do you mean they have to come out twice-once with the box and once for pick-up-and how do you work out what size box you need? Depends if you have the items ready to pop into the box it may be possbile for the guy to wait while you tape it up and send it off at once.otherwise you can use you own box if you don't want to have to have one delivered and then pack it and call them again. Thanks for that-do you tip them? I have not ever tipped them, not sure if I should have but I don't think they expect a tip at all so lets not spoil them :)

Just a tip, if sending a "camel blanket' to Oz I would not mention the word 'camel' on the description, could get it delayed in customs for inspection as it may lead them to think it contained camel skin. I would declare it as a blanket and it should be ok :)

I send gifts all the time to WA, the best way is with skynet they are door to door courier and cost no more than the post, the only difference is they are much quicker and they don't lose your package! www.skynetworldwide.net They will pick up from your location and it akes about 5-6 days to get there. Half kg is dhs 65 and one kg dhs115, much cheaper than any other courier. hth Hi Di, Pickup from my location sounds great! Can I purchase the box from them and they will bring the required packaging/box with them when they collect, or do I need to box it up and label etc myself first? I will have a look at the site right away - thanks for the link :) They will give you the box, I have never been charged for boxes. Just ask when you book the collection that you need a box.

Probably a good idea to state your source: http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/crime/bur-dubai-murder-solved-by-police-in-48-hours-1.1086715 I love how the headline is how quickly they were able to solve it, and not a warning or what actually happened. Yes, sorry forgot to put up the link, really so shocked and the same story is also reported here under a similar headline. http://gulftoday.ae/portal/e40f5580-037e-4789-9d55-61db777950f1.aspx

The Jumeirah Beach Hotel's own matches are twice the length of normal ones, so go for a cocktail or three! Now that will be the final destination when I have exhausted all the other places! Thanks :)

It says the canal will run across Safa Park, Al Wasl Road, and through Jumeirah 2 to terminate at the Arabian Gulf. I wonder if there is a map somewhere of the exact route.

How did he clean the ac, did he use a machine to extract the dust or just swept if out by hand? I'm looking for someone cost effective to clean the ac's by machine as I cannot tolerate the dust being sprayed all over the place when they clean it out by hand.

Maybe at one of the ARTE events, they have them every first Friday at Festival City and second Friday at Times Square, lots of unique artwork there usually. loved the last arte souk, met some amazing people! how big do you want the pieces to be? i've had some bespoke calligraphy canvases from these people http://alexjeffriesphotographygroup.com/print/ last month as birthday presents/anniversary presents - one of my friends actually burst into tears when she opened it! i paid more than 400 but they were big pieces...... Agree, and the next one on Friday at Times Square should be really good too, it's supporting Breast Cancer Month, so very worthwhile.

I see on the same list that even scissors are ok to carry on board providing they are blunt ended, however I had a very small pair of rounded end nail scissors taken from me when I tried to carry them on board in the toiletries purse.
