Is it worth bringing our furniture out from Dubai to Doha? Beds, dining table, dishwasher etc etc. I have heard that most accommodation is fully furnished and I am wondering if it is worth the cost of shipping a houseful of stuff or just selling it here would be better? any advice would be great as we only have 2 weeks left! The main conncern I would have, having stayed in FF in Doha would be the beds, generaly what is put into a furnished accom there is dreadful cheap nasty and horrendously uncomfortable. If I were you I would either ask about the brand of beds in the place or take my own. I searched everywhere for a replacement bed as I was litterlly crying in the moring from pain, and bought an Intercoil in Home Centre Doha, however the Intercoil there is not up to the standard of the Dubai Intercoil. It was a torture rack too. The only decent beds in Doha shops are King Koil and of course they are very pricey. This is not the most up to date info so there may now be more variety and someone with recent experience may give better options. hth

I wrote because I m looking for a French speaking pediatrician when I googled French clinic I found very similar messages in several websites from people who just opened an account like in this case. I believe it is important to have genuine reviews instead of disguised advertising. The clinic may well be great and extremely useful, but since no one was asking for such info about a French clinic, whatever the OP's intention was with this post, it does look like an ad in disguise. So many new posters come on with their first thread saying "I have just found this or that place". Naturally many of us tend, rightly or wrongly, to jump to that conclusion. And as you say ads in disguise are against the rules, there's no harm in a reminder anyway.

On the face of it I'd be very wary of this 'offer'. There's no details about his 'charity', where its located, what the phone number is. How is someone to talk with him? The range of advice he offers is beyond the scope of the expertise of one person and he does not mention a team of people, just himself. Sorry cannot take this seriously especially since its on Dubizzle the well know haunt of scamsters. And don't charities need to government licenced here? I would not send him my name, address or phone number or any personal details.

I have a scoliosis which causes frequent pain and difficulty moving around. Basically I have done the rounds of everyone of all specialities mainstream and alternative without resolution, Not wanting to think about surgery or even if it would be necessary I take Myonal when the pain is bad, its a mild muscle relaxant, not sure if it would be indicated for your condition. I also have Bowen and PIDDS treatment whenever I'm in pain, the combination of these gentle treatments I find has been the most helpful so far in terms of pain relief without heavy meds which I hate due to the stomach irritation and wooziness effects. ETA I would think for dislocated disk you need to see a surgeon, I am considering this too and have been recommended one Dr Weber in Healthcare city, not been to him yet so cannot advise. Maybe someone else can give you a recommendation, if you want to try Bowen or PIDDDS I can give you the contacts, at least that may give you some immediate relief. hth edited by Di@DXB on 06/10/2012

Daiso have a good selection of glass jars for home made jams and preserves, they also have the pretty ready cut fabric circles and ties for gifting and some attractive plastic jars that can be used for food storage too. Definitley a wide choice there and probably the least expensive anywhere.

Geant usually have hibiscus on the open dried spice counter area near fruits and veg. They may also have packets of it on the prepack spice shelves, those should be marked hibiscus. Not sure what they call it on the open counter but the staff should know if you ask for it.

I'd say if your near neighbours are local or Muslim then I would definitely avoid displaying witches. ETA not sure if there are any laws on this though, might be good to check, guess it would fall under offending local culture etc. So maybe best to stick to indoors only. edited by Di@DXB on 05/10/2012

Had exactly the same symtoms a few months ago, I'm sure it was a salad I ate in a cafe, labs showed bacterial, the doctor said its a typical infection from someone who had not washed their hands probably before touching the lettuce. I'm sure it was that place, which is really popular cafe in MOE but cannot prove it of course. I had not eaten a thing else outside for weeks beforehand and only light well cooked meals at home the days before. It left me with horrible headaches too. Hope you feel better soon. Hi Di... Im suspecting [b'>a quiche in a popular cafe too [/b'>- my Dh has snacked on more or less everything in the kitchen and he is fine (and usually the one who gets sick) And the worst have been the headaches, which continue til today. The doctors should run cultures on all our samples to find out exactly which bug it is as each bug needs slightly different treatment. Im going to be really extra careful from now on. Last year there was a famous E-coli outbreak in Germany but their medical system probably has a shared data system which alerts the authorities immediately if there is a pattern. Whereas I dont think there is that sort of monitoring here in Dubai unless a crop of cases appear at one hospital at the same time. There are probably lots of E-coli cases which dont get diagnosed or reported as such. OMG that's what I ate too, quiche and salad, I'm now even more sure of the source. And I was wondering if anyone else got sick, probably did but as you say there's no system here to monitor this sort of thing.

Taxi drivers have the choice to accept a ride or not. They are not being dispatched, a message is sent out to all drivers and it depends on whether someone except it or not. If you are in an area where not many taxis actually "roam" around, it can take forever. It's not the fault of the guy who takes your call, he does his job, but if not driver takes the offer, you have a problem. It's the system that needs to change. Taxi drivers that are in the area, or the one that's the closest, needs to be sent there to pick you up whether he likes it or not. Right not taxi drivers can pick and choose which person they want to take, and that's wrong. Call Center needs to take your request, find who's nearest, and tell him personally to go. So that really invalidates the whole idea of a booking system, no wonder!

Dubai Taxi is utterly hopeless; I booked one to arrive at 8.30 this morning to take me to an appointment. So I ask then what exactly is the meaning of the confirmed message. The reply, “That's just to confirm we know you want a taxi it does not mean we will send one definitely.” . Sorry, but that's just so funny to read- another only in Dubai moment. Yes only in Dubai! Maybe they should change the automated telephone response message to say: “We know you want a taxi but we are probably never going to send one, goodbye.”

Even if you have paid and got the receipt still it can be on the system as a friend found when he wanted to sell a car in Sharjah a while back, they refused to let him sell the car even though he had all the receipts with him because they had not cleared the system and he had to pay again to be able to transfer the car ownership. Rediculous.

You have hinted that it's difficult for you and she has not picked up on that, either she missed the point of what you said or did not understand you meant more than just that time. Tell her again that as much as you'd like to help out occasionally it's not always possible so she should not depend on you to be always able at the drop of a hat. If she still asks after that then she is hardly a friend who considers your needs. Friendship works both ways.

There needs to be a better mechanism for forcing owners to pay up, the tenants are the innocent victims here, pressure should not be put on them, they pay their rent and have not defaulted on anything. What should happen is action against the owners who have not paid. There are things that could be done even if owners are overseas. It would take a much needed evolution in accountability and legislation which obviously is not going to happen in time for the current crisis if ever.

I already called Dulsco who told me they were banned by Emaar from taking out private contracts. I was insistent and they actually rang Emaar themselves to "double check". Called me back and said "No, we are not allowed to do private contracts, the community fee has to be paid, no private contracts!" I rang Emaar again (had called them in July about same thing) just to check whether their standpoint had changed and whether I, as a tenant could pay something towards the collection of rubbish without having to pay the total amount the owner owes. They wouldn't accept a brass razoo. No compromise, no negotiation. I guess they want to bring it to crisis point... Will try calling the Municipality though I think in these "private" gated communities, it is Emaar's jurisdiction and not considered public therefore no municipality involvement. Emaar's obstructive actions would be considered tantamount to endangerment in some places, it should not be legal for them to put people's health at risk in that way.

Maybe you can get other residents together and set up a private collection with a company this one may do this for you http://www.dulsco.com/WMS_Waste Didn't EMAAR just start a thing where all contractors had to have a permit? You think they will allow this? Surely that would be insanity to prevent residents from keeping the development clean with a private contractor. Its just as much in their interests to not have the place turn into a rat infested tip.

Decided to bake a cake early today. Cracked the eggs open one by one and they all had a very strong smell of raw garlic. They did not apear to be bad at all, just extremely pungant raw garlic smell which would not have made a nice cake. The outer packaging of the egg box did not smell nor the shells, it was only when I cracked them open, so whatever do they feed the hens? Anyone else noticed this at all?
