Have had Silentnight, Ikea, Intercoil, Restonic and King Koil. KK is the best of all after that Restonic is almost as nice as KK but quite a bit cheaper, don't recommend Intercoil at all and Silent Night is ok but short lifespan. Ikea divan was good value and actually very comfortable.

This place looks really nice, Kitty Village at Urban Tails, you can log on while you are away and see you cat every day live online. That takes the worry out of leaving pets behind. http://urbantailsdubai.com/ video here http://gulfnews.com/gntv/lifestyle/pet-hotel-1.922093

We used to get them coming around with pictures of children in hospital or wheelchairs asking for money. First time I did what you did and asked a local friend about it and he said totally not legit, he advised next time they come to say you will call the police. I did this and I have never seen someone fun so fast. We were never disturbed again. Thanks for the info, so clearly from what your local friend says the government doesn’t send out charity collectors. When I thought about it later I wondered why they would because there are all the official charities in kiosks in the malls, so why would they waste resources on door to door collecting. I may have had a lucky escape!

Would be advisable to say your husband was busy rather than "not there' just to be on the safe side too So true, I should remember to say that next time, thanks

Seriously doubt it's legit. Another tri-hard by the sounds of it. Ask them to show ID, that usually does it. Yes, you must be right, I suspect he thought my refusal was a tactic and I was going to ask for that next. He was so believable up to that point, I was almost going to give him whatever change I had, but thought I'd like to give more so genuinely asked him to come back. Just goes to show you can never know.

They delivered them to me, but that may have been because I used a cargo company abroad that I paid for door to door and it was then transferred to sky cargo here.

My baking is done And now I am back And yes I have fallen completely off track But can anyone say why to rhyme is forbidden? I’ve looked at the ‘Rules’ and unless it is hidden Cannot see such mention, so unless I am wrong I’m going to continue along with the throng What’s bad about putting a few lines in verse? Its better at least than being perverse Like comments you see talking back at some posts You’d think they were grilling whole BBQ roasts What bees do they think they have they got in their bonnets I find this far worse than a couple of sonnets Digression aside -to return to the theme I have eaten a snail with soup al crème But never a rat, a mole or a lizard If don’t think the latter would go down my gizzard.

BM you started it off now we're talking in rhyme even I've fallen fowl for the very first time, the mention of chickens of bats and of ears and other usual culinary fears we must only express in regular mode or we’ll be trouble if spoke like an ode I vow ne’er to repeat this dreadful transgression I worry it may become an obsession so carry on all to your heart’s content and excuse me while I go and repent While your verses are full of harmonious chime I fear this thread is on borrowed time

So since they are eco friendly, like I said approach 'The Change Initiative', they are an international venture backed by some very prominent people, their new store is a dedicated venture for such types of environmentally friendly products and I think would be a perfect outlet for you. Baby sparrows in France-we were advised to eat the whole bird feet and all-I chickened out and told the host I was avegetarian So you "chickened out" of eating baby birds, :D LOL Wouldn't you-especially as they were placed feet up on the plate! The other interesting food I had was made by my then future mother in law-2 sheeps heads-facing in opposite directions- on a platter surrounded by stuffed hearts-didn't tell her till a few years later that I had lied about being a vegetarian that day too! For sure! Would have done the same too if I'd known the "chicken" I was offered in China was actually bat.

From looking at the the infomation on Etisalat website, it seems to say that once we have registered our numbers there is still going to be limited validity of our rights to that number and to maintain ownership of our numbers we will have to keep re-registering our details indefinately as long as we are here. So this whole process of having to go in to Etisalat or Du is not going to be a one off thing at all. "[i'>Verifying and maintaining the valid ID details The registered and re-registered mobile numbers will stay active as long as the ID is valid. Once the ID expired, you have to re-register the mobile numbers again. In case you do not re-register your mobile numbers after ID expiry, then those mobile numbers will be suspended and disconnected. "[/i'> http://www.etisalat.ae/eportal/en/generic/re-registration.html

I would'nt give babies wax crayons or pencils at all, they could bite of bits of the crayon and choke on them, and pencils, no way, they might poke themselves or another baby in the eye with a pencil. The coffee table, I would not have there at all, highly likely one of the babes will bump his head on it. Coffee table cause more childhood accidents than anything else in the home. Instead of the crayons and table you could get hand held small 'magic' drawing slates that just wipe clean. Have a theme - animals for eg. Get paper plates and cups in this design. I suggest games that involve small stuffed animals in a safe play area for the one years olds and under. Ikea is a good place for these. Make sandwiches cut into animal shapes with cookie cutters. Sing or play songs like Old Macdonald and Twinkle Star. make sure to babyproof the area, to avoid babies crawling around getting into plugs or wiring or other dangers. Have an place ready for nappy changing! Have someone help you! You will not be able to watch all the babies all the time.

There are lots of FTA channels in many languages. The Main English speaking ones are Dubai One, MBC 4, MBC Action, MBC 2 and City 7 TV. MBC3 is a chilldren's channel with some English programmes. You can get BBC world, CNN, Euronews and AJI international too. Most receivers you buy in the shops will automatically receive many channels in Arabic, Italian, Russian etc, but I have never found one that automatically picked up the English channels mentioned above, I always had to get a satellite guy to come and tune it. I just bought two new receivers, different makes and the both needed tuning, once done they receive all the English Free to Air channels. Not sure if its just the kind of receiver I got or this is standard! When I asked the sales person all he could tell me is it would receive the English channels. hth edited by Di@DXB on 07/08/2012

Waters around the sailing club were heavily contaminated with an oily orange gloop that gushed out of storm drains early today. the thick mass covers several football pitches in size. Hope they are going to be able to clean this up and it does not have negative impact on marine life in the area. http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/environment/oily-orange-glop-blankets-jumeirah-waters-1.1057241

Day 3 of living in Dubai so still getting used to things but I've been noticing some tiny sand coloured bugs, really tiny like tiny grains of rice. Is this normal here? I know my place got fumigated last week so perhaps this is totally normal living in a hot country but would be interested to know if this is normal or not? I'm going to buy sealed containers tomorrow to store any opened foods regardless! OMG! :\: Me too. Ive not just seen a couple in my kitchen but in the living room on my dark sofa and one on my laptop yesterday too. Where have they come from.? The kitchen? Really? It's a fair walk. Lol. Joking aside though, it makes me itch, even now, how do I get rid of them. Do i need to get pest control. I lay down on my sofa and cushions, I darent now :( If they're the little bugs that get in the dried food, you would need to check all your flour, rice, spices etc to find the source and throw it away. The bugs themselves do no harm but their droppings are a health hazard if consumed.

Tap water. The only reason you would not drink it too is that it tastes too salty, its actually perfectly safe in Dubai anyway, I hear that possibly other emirates this is not the case, but for cooking its fine.

There's a tailor in Ibn Battuta mall who usually will do alterations on the spot. Very reasonable too, its down the service corridor off from in front of New Look store. Not sure what his opening times are in Ramadan, but he should be there by about 1ish. ETA its called Al Thawab and the shop number is 04 368 5324 in case you want to call before setting out. edited by Di@DXB on 04/08/2012

Thanks so much, did you by the ring for Damas originally? As I went to pure gold and they said no jewellers will do it unless I bought it from them :-( No the ring was from the UK, Damas had no problem adjusting it for me. Try the MOE branch they were very helpful and nice.

There is a shop in JBR but last night they said it would take 10-14 days (don’t want to wait that long) Thanks Go to the tailor in IBn Battuta Mall, its down the service corridor in front of New Look. He often will do them while you wait.

Yes - and have you measured the temperature of your tap water? My "cold" tap water is 60 degrees centigrade according to my candy thermometer at midday.
