Are you talking about coming up Umm Suqueim or 611? You can't take 611 towards AR and go left at the 311 roundabout anymore but you can come up Umm Suquiem from MOE and go into AR's from the Motor City side or go to the main AR's entrance from Umm Suquiem. The Ranches Ladies fayre on Tuesday 15th November is very definitely for the public. FREE entry ! Lots of lovely stalls! very reasonably priced coffee and cake! Lots of great raffle prizes. It starts at 10am and ends at 1pm. The golf club also do great lunches. I've put a link to a location map but its very easy to find as its signposted from the main gate to Arabian Ranches http://www.arabianranchesgolfdubai.com/Images/ARGC%20Map%20(4)_tcm4-2292.pdf Can we drive through the Khail roundabout from MOE side towards AR? I thought that roundabout was closed or is it open in that direction? What about coming back open or closed in the Umm Suquiem direction? Thanks, I mean going past MOE and going straight on through Khail roundabout then taking the next exit off towards the main entrance. So that seems to be ok from what you say?

I received a mail sent through our company PO box from a local bank informing me regarding my new IBAN but I didn't open an account with them. Is it possible here to open a bank account without personal appearance? I tried calling the customer service but he he told me that "these" account number is not existing and if I want to get the full information of "these" account, he advice me to go their branch. Now, I'm worried because someone might used my information :-S Does anyone of you have the same experience? This is not normal, its not possible to open an account without ID and signature in person. You need to check this out at the branch, it seems suspicious. You need to find out where they got your name from and how they issued the numbers to you without your knowledge.

I live above the 20th floor of a high rise and wonder about this. Many times the alarm goes off and we can hardly hear it inside the apartment. I've taken the stairs a couple of times ( always do this just to make sure) also as a friend who used to live in my building told me that departing residents regularly dumped furniture in the stairs! We have smoke detectors, alarms sprinklers and each apartment has a fire extinguisher, but I do wonder... Have been considering a safe but unless it's a high end one, it won't do a lot in a big fire. they're mainly for protecting from smoke/water. My sister had one which survived a fire but it was a commercial one worth a good few thousand dollars or more.... the Ace variety are really only good for deterring thieves... I was caught on the 14th floor of a building that caught fire here in a few years ago, it was night, the power went off and the fire stairwell had no emergency lighting, people had stored kids bikes and other clutter on every landing making it impossible to get down the stairs without injury. It took me ages to reach the ground floor because of the obstructions. It should be illegal to do this but who is checking? Obviously no one. BTW your post has been quoted in today's emirates24/7 http://www.emirates247.com/property/top-floor-residents-of-uae-high-rises-not-prepared-for-fire-emergency-2011-11-14-1.428107

Its not ok for companies to fix competitions, and they know it which is why they hurried to remove the FB posts to cover up. All promotions and competitions in Dubai have to be approved and licensed by the Economic Dept and there are rules for the conduct of all such activities. I would think the Economic Dept would be interested to know if there has been unfair play in the prize giving.

It was well choreographed and fun to watch but this "spontaneous" flash mob dance was a sponsored advert brought to us by DAA. I would have liked it better if it had been spontaneous or at least those who appeared to be joining in from the crowd were genuine travellers rather than actors.

Just make sure they are not on the banned substances list if you are going to bring them in. Some things that are OTC at home can be unexpectedly banned here. http://www.grapeshisha.com/plan-your-trip/banned-drugs-in-dubai-and-abu-dhabi.html

me too - it's within walking distance for me now :D still wondering what happened to the thread the other day about this that also had some polite criticism of their last 'do'!! That Thread was 'removed' and really the criticism was constructive I thought, at least up until I last saw the content of it before it disappeared. This mornings event was very nice and well attended but at risk of this thread or myself being removed I would like to politely suggest that it would have been nice to have had a bit of music in the hall - I think it would have jollied up the atmosphere and the sales. Maybe it was not possible- perhaps no sound system. Just my feedback and hope I will not be extradited!

You can always try to negotiate the rent, no harm trying! I know of someone who was paying 80k last year in Springs 12, they did not renew at end of contract last month as the LL wanted fewer cheques. Maybe this guide to rental prices for November will help http://www.gulfnews.com/polopoly_fs/1.917525.1319435618!menu/standard/file/dubaivillas.pdf Good luck anyway :)

I found that my cards only worked as payment in the swipe machines but not in the ATM's at all, (inspite of having been told by my bank here that they would work) not even at my own international bank's branch there. This was a couple of years ago, but I understand that it is neccessary still for cards to be enabled internationally and they must carry either the CIRRUS, PLUS or STAR international ATM mark or the Interlink or Maestro POS mark. edited by Di@DXB on 11/11/2011

Please can someone tell me if you have a connection flight and the first leg is delayed by 3hours, what happens? My parents are flying from UK with Qatar Airlines. TIA If they are flying the first leg with QA and the 2nd leg with same airline, then QA should take care of getting them connected, and I think there's a bit of a wait in Doha from the London flight to the next Dubai flight with QA, so maybe they will catch up a bit of time and make the connection ok, otherwise QA have to arrange to put them on the next flight. Are they in the air now? if so I would try to call QA and enquire.

I cannot see what stops them from making the law say exactly what they intend to have it apply to. If they only want to get rid of 'ogglers' what stops them from making it an offence to oggle, it would definately fall within the context of cultural sensitivites. Now it is confusing, as it stands they say its illegal for anyone fully dressed to walk the beach. This leaves us wondering if they will interpret the law strictly or not, we run the risk of finding out the hard way it they intend to carry it out verbatim.

The way I understood the article, is that they want to prevent people bathing in full clothes, which will lead to transparent clothes once they are wet. It happens a lot with the local male dress and the Pakistani like clothes. Just try to be in their shoes : they have to deal here with highly conservative persons, specially during festive seasons where a lot of Saudi people come here, and all the working men here for one year without any wife nearby (well...officially...) and the westerners and other people who are more used to the beach activities and just want to enjoy a nice day sunbathing, swimming and having fun with their friends and family....Personnaly, I think they are doing a good job ! Agree, but if they only want to (rightly) stop people swimming in unsuitable attire, then why outlaw fully dressed people from walking on the beach? Should be just ban fully dressed from swimming. Now we cannot take a nice walk on the beach wearing our normal clothes.

what? so you now cannot go for a nice walk along the beach, fully clothed?! Seems so, that's what's reported, its now illegal for 'fully dressed people to walk on the beaches'. They do not stipulate men or women, so I take it as being applied to both gender.

Police announce that in addition to underwear being illegal, it is also not permitted to be fully dressed on the beach. I get underwear being unsuitable, but how would you travel to the beach if you were not fully dressed on the way there and what about ladies who just want to use the beach wearing a normal skirt and blouse or dress, it that illegal now? Do we all have to strip down to swimsuit or leave? http://www.emirates247.com/news/emirates/fully-dressed-or-underwear-both-not-allowed-on-dubai-s-beaches-police-2011-11-09-1.427334

I woke up to this news yesterday and had a mad panic, as I knew my BIL was on his way home from work and he'd mentioned traffic on his FB before he set out. Turned out there was another smaller crash at the junction before our one that he got stuck in, but I thought this crash was the major one and totally panicked until I got hold of them. What a horrendous night for all the victims, families and the emergency services. Know what you were feeling, I spent a few very worried hours knowing that my brother travels that route every evening too, thankfully yours and mine all ok. So sad for those who perished in such a horrendous way.

Gosh...I would definitely tell my host! I'd feel awful and would pay to have the mattress professionally cleaned (if that's what my host wanted). Especially because you two are friends, she should have come clean. I'm almost embarrassed for her that she went to such trouble to hide it and has been 'found out'. It's like the behaviour of a six yr old boy! ;) [b'>Like you, I wouldn't be at all angry about it. I would be hurt that she felt the need to deceive me and it would make me a titch less likely to trust her about anything in the future.[/b'>Talk to her about it if it's going to continue to worry you. Forget it and move on if it won't become a problem for your friendship. edited by Green-ish on 06/11/2011 Good advice thanks, I am hurt more than upset and I may think twice about any future invitations if she wants to come again, but considering she has had a tough enough year already with a divorce and not finding a job I'll try to forget it I think.

how do you get to spill that much ink that it goes right through to the mattress anyway ?? what was she doing ?? and to actually go through the rigmarole of turning someone's mattress over.... all seems a bit odd. It's really difficult to own up to this sort of thing and although you say you aren't the type of person to get mad, you still started a thread on here so it clearly does bother you.. And sorry but it's just an ink stain on a mattress -no1's gonna see it anyway.. No idea what she could have been doing, she was out here job hunting at the time, may have been working on paperwork....she is a bit accident prone naturally, she also managed to set fire to her purse by leaving it too close to a scented candle as well, fortunatley I caught that one! It only bothers' me as I, obviously incorrectly, expected her to have the same concern for my things as I would have for hers. Specially since she knew I bought the divan bed brand new for her stay. As you say its only an ink stain on and mattress and base divan, so perhaps my mistake is in expecting the same of her as I would of myself.

I certainly would tell my host that I had broken/spilt something. I would be terribly embarased if I did not and I was asked about it .... I absolutely think you should let your houseguest know, maybe the next time she will be upfront and the day could be saved so to speak. I would think if she was a good friend she could have felt comfortable telling you. There are some things you should keep silent about, I personally do not think this is one of them as it might always be the elephant on the table no one speaks about but is always there )..clear the air. Yes, my feelings too, she has known me long enough to know I would not have gone ballistic, think I will tell her exactly that.

Is'nt it actually against the law to use a cell phone while driving? I think you can certainly report him for that, considering you were involved as a passenger in the car he hit. I would go ahead and report him and mention that you suffered a bang on the head too. Just becasue you were'nt driving does not mean you have no word in the matter.

Thats horrendous! They dragged it out with false promises so they would not have to fork out for hotels and food for all the stranded passengers. Abismal airline. I think if there's a delay of over a certain number of hours you have to be accomodated and offered food, so they clearly have failed in that regard. They obviously don't give a stuff about their passengers. Hope you are recovered now and safely home.

Re: Your last comment- The people who may well take offense at it are those who have the authority to extend or deny us the privilage of being in this country, and moreover are likely to be equally offended as being dismissed as people who "just like to moan about something". You are applying your one sided perspective without consideration for the convictions of others, and then you deride any suggestion that its appropriate to be sensitive to what they hold dear. I disagree. If you want to demand tolerance you need to practice it yourself or else accept that you are the epitome of your own criticism.

This reminds me of the time I saw the complete opposite to this problem, a while ago before they used to have those metal posts at the top of most escalators I saw a woman actully push her laden shopping trolley onto the down escalator. Obviously the result was a complete disaster, trolley rolled down uncontrollably spilling the shopping everywhere, while lady tried desperately to hang on, then let it plummet to the bottom where fortunately there were no people ahead. Still cannot understand what she was thinking.

Hello, Does anyone know how to apply for a UAE police clearance certificate from outside the UAE? I am in the UK and I need a police clearance. I have found a website but there's spelling errors on the website which doesn't give me the greatest confidence. Thanks I think there's no option now but to use the online service, we used it some time ago. Did finally get the certificate. Good luck.
