In addition to the water filter it might help if you use an organic shampoo and conditioner, the best I have found in Dubai is the Organic Care brand which has the highest organic rating of what you can find here. Its sold in Carrefour and LuLu.

I have flown QA many times and it really can vary, but as AnonDubai said the airport is bad. Aside from that I have had a really nice flight in economy from London to Dubai via Doha. Also had really horrible flights on the short haul Dubai Doha Dubai sector. Had a superb flight to Doha KL in business class. So I guess its like any airline a bit hit and miss, generally business class is good with QA overall, economy ok on long haul and not ok short haul.

Had an elevator related issue happen to me today, and it was the first time i actually rudely spoke out to someone i dont know..guess im in one of those scary moods today :) Was waiting for a lift with four other guys...office building where i work...and as the doors opened, everyone started running in without a care in the world for the elderly couple trying to come out of the elevator...anyway, once the order was established and they let the couple out, they again started to pack in like sardines into a can, and the last guy who was right in front of me (yes thats right the men had no clue that its best to let a lady with two laptops and a huge briefcase enter first), decided he wanted to stand out and slowly WALTZ into the elevator...by the time he got in, the doors were starting to shut, and of course as i was making my way into the lift, the doors started to shut, slamming me and my bags into a sandwich (old elevator and the doors are not fitted with sensors)...the four just stood there like a bunch of clueless id*ots...not a clue what the "door open" button does....so there i stood, wedged in...and in a split second i just got so angry i yelled at the mor*n who was so slow "cannot believe your mother refused to teach you any bl*ody manners! please press the button to open the door!! im a woman carrying three heavy bags, it should be common sense to hold the door for me or at least walk fast enough to consider the person behind you needs to make it inside as well!!!" ugh..they just stood there in silence...of course i felt horribly awkward right after as im usually a very quiet person when it comes to these things...oh well..still can't shake the feeling of all this anger. Good on you!

Don't get me started on queues.. we are lined up patiently then someone walks straight to the front. I used to be too scared to say anything but not anymore ;) Agree- and add to that the non existant concept of 'personal space'.

I hate it when you are trying to get out of a lift or the metro and they all rush to get in.. Many a time i have stuck my elbows out to stop them shoving me out of the way. My colleague actually pushed a guy back when he tried to get in the lift as he was getting out. He didnt do it in an agressive way however the guys face was a picture so i doubt he will do it again! Yes that's another typical thing here, they don't let you get out of a lift before trying to get in. Makes no sense at all. Just delays everyone pushing around ina small space all trying to go in different directions. Where is the common sense, never mind the manners :\:

Oh you poor soul, what a struggle you are having. I don't get people at all, yesterday was pushing my trolley back to the car and found a young woman in tears and very shaken because some woman ina car had nearly run her over and then screamed abuse at her from the window for being in[i'> her [/i'>way. I hope you get your car soon and things will be so much easier for you.

Some of the new Volvo models have inbuilt child booster seats in the back and space for baby seat as well. Not sure if this is in Dubai you could ask the Volvo dealership. pic here http://cars.about.com/od/volvo/ig/2009-Volvo-V70-photo-gallery/2009-Volvo-V70-booster-seat.htm <em>edited by Di@DXB on 29/09/2011</em>

I just discovered a range of organic products this morning that seem a much better option to most of these. The brand is Organic Care, their products have a rating of 0-2 on the EWG scale. They are SLES, SLS, ALS, ALES, parabens and mineral oil free. Even the packaging is made from a bio plant material not plastic. Compared to Desert Essence rates 0 to 6 Aubrey Organics rates 0 to 5 They are much cheaper than the ones sold in Organic Cafe, for eg. Organic Care 400 ml Conditioner is Dhs. 14.25 as compared to the Organic Cafe shampoo at Dhs. 24 for only 236 ml. There's a whole range of Organic Care baby products too attractively packed which are rated 0, so they are completely organic acc to EWG. I would say having looked everywhere at what is available out there in Dubai this comes out the best in terms of organics and price. At Dhs 14.25 for a big 400 ml bottle you do not need to put up with SLS or all the other chemical nasties at all.

I cannot see how this country has jursidiction over a foreign nationals offshore assests outside of the UAE, if that were the case then all those people who left Dubai in 'unusual'' circumstances would have their assets impounded back home. Any country only has jurisdiction over its own territory and its own nationals. I think that lady must have been mistaken or trying make a pitch to sell you their service, but to be on the safe side why not talk to an independant financial advisor.

JUST GO DO THE DAMN THING WHAT PART OF YOU HAVE TO HAVE ONE AT SOME POINT DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND? I can just see the same names cropping up in a few months complaining about how busy it is and how much they have to queue at the ID centres. Not sure who you are SHOUTING at, but I for one totally get that "we have to have one at some point", its the POINT at which we HAVE to have it, that is in my opinion unnecessary if the resdence is about to expire.

It would be so much easier if they would just let us tie it in with our residence renewal, why the need to rush off and do it now and then have to renew it again in a matter of weeks. Does not make any sense except for $$$$ Not really - if you have 6 month on your residency - your ID is only valid for 6 months and you are only charged for 6 months. Maybe so, but why not let us do when we renew our residency, whats the rush?

For some of us its not how to do it but when, say you have 3-4 months left on your residence and supposedly are ok to wait until June 1 acc to the deadline. Why should you want to do it now and then have to do it all over again in 3-4 months time. Why would anyone want to have to double the money and bother within a few weeks timeframe. And what is confsuing is that they say we have a June 1st deadline and at the same time say any application after Jan 1st will be fined. That's the issue not how to do it.

It may be a bit more clearly explained here http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/general/emirates-id-card-know-your-deadline-1.867023 And they say we must renew or apply asap even if your residence is about to run out, seriously that means if you got a month or two on your res you will end up repeating the whole process twice within a couple of months. WTH edited by Di@DXB on 15/09/2011 [b'>So according to this the deadline for expats in Dubai is June 1, 2012?[/b'> Well yes and no, it says the deadline is June 1 for Dubai expats but goes on to say that anyone applying after Jan 1 2012 will be fined. Here's a useful website that will show you a map of the area you want and all the schools in that area, you put in the name of the suburb or city, then you will get a list and map of all state and private schools. You will probably need to contact the school directly as well though to ask about exact catchment, but this should help to give you something to work on. Lots of other useful info on aussiemove.com too for anyone who relocating there. http://www.aussiemove.com/sub/suburb.asp?a=168&f=2&c=7&o=M I'm not there yet either, just in the process of relocating too. hth <em>edited by Di@DXB on 15/09/2011</em>

The difference with the organic oil is the coconuts will have been grown without the use of chemicals and pesticides and will have been processed in a way as not to produce trans fats. So organic is better for you and your skin as non organic oil will have lost much of its nutrient and may contain traces of chemicals and solvents.

Totally confusing, so Dubai residents are Phase IV: and have a deadline of June 1, 2012 after which they incur late charges. BUT any Dubai expat applying for residence without ID after 31 December 2011 WILL incur late charges. Crystal clear -:\:

Thing is, the other day i was shifting my parrot into his new cage, and as he was climbing in he fell of his new perch and let out a nano-second squeal...three minutes later, my neighbour (four kids, two maids, one of the loudest in that wing), knocks on my door and says "could you please not let that squeal happen again, we're all trying to sleep before playtime). It was 4pm in the afternoon. An hour before their prolonged "squealing" sessions. I was gobsmacked. I didn't even have time to react. My parrot squealed INSIDE, and it was barely a second long. That totally takes the biscuit!

I would just tell them to get off my mat, especially as they are being so nosey. Tell them every single time you see them then they might get so fed up of having to move that they won't bother in the end. Oh, and......cooler weather is just a few weeks away ;) I can't wait for cooler weather!! on my balcony, i can't hear the friday morning/afternoon screams :)))) I have wanted to say something to the maids, but always felt kind of bad....i mean its their job to take these kids out to the corridors for hours on end...their employers tell them so...i guess when they get tired of bike wheels being rammed into their shins, they have no choice but to sit in the corridors as they can't leave the kids alone[b'>...i am more partial to blaming the parents tbh[/b'> Agree. the maids would not be taking the kids out to play anywhere without the parents instructions. Its selfish unneighborly behaviour.

Absolutely no you are not stroppy, you are entitled to privacy and the right to enjoy peace in your home. Check with your management, this happens where I live too, in fact you could be describing my building! It is not permitted according to my contract for public areas to be used for any purpose other than entry and exit of resident and noise and food are not allowed in the corridors. Having said that I get exactly the same here, the maids had a full picnic the other day in the lobby and left food and plates everywhere, daily the kids screaming up and down banging on door and on those noisy plastic trikes. I have just written a complaint to the building management. I think if neighbors don't want to hear their own kids screaming what make them suppose their neighbors want the noise outside their doors nonstop. It is selfish and rude behavior of these parents to throw the maid s and kids out like that. I would say check your building rules, speak to management, it may well not be allowed and perhaps they can take action so you don’t have to confront people. That’s what I have done so far, waiting to see if management do anything about it.

Hi and welcome, the nearest coffee mornings to Bur Dubai area would be Festival City Wednesday, after that next nearest is Mercato Mall on Tuedays, neither of those are in your immediate area though. No knowing exactly where you are located I can only suggest you take a taxi as the metro will not take you all the way to either of those places. Hope you make it and get to know some new friends.

Had a rat last year, I never saw it in the daytime it hid in the ceilings, but it used to come down at night and nibble on stuff. Anyway the pest people laid traps downstairs not in the roof, so it was caught and quickly disposed of without risk in rotting in a hidden part of the house. By the way we used peanut butter in the traps, they said rats cannot resist it.

Of course long queues is not the major concern, better security is a plus but should it it come with a health risk. They could implement pat down for all passengers and not subject us to x rays at all. Experts state there really is no threshold of low dose being OK. Any dose of X-rays produces some potential risk. This is borne out by the fact that skin cancer rates for pilots are some 25 times higher than that of the general public. Furthermore the type of scanners in use today do not detect everything, thin materials concealed on the body cannot be picked up by backscatter xray machines, rendering it useless it such a case, it is thought the underpant guy slipped though one of those machines, a pat down would be more successful.

[b'>Update[/b'>, just got back from Dr M, as I said he does not do Lumineers, but he can do regular veneers which would involve filing the teeth down of course which I unerstand you are trying to avoid. He quoted about 1,500 per tooth and mentioned there were different quallity options avaiable. I had one regular veneer done in Dubai elsewhere about 8 years ago, I paid more than that even then and it has lasted ok only needs replacing due to gum shrinkage. hth

I've been going through this airport for nearly the same number of years and it does look lax (and possibly is) on the surface, but I've been patted down, and so have my female Emirati students (mostly for wearing underwire bras) - but maybe they were subjected to more scrutiny because they were with me? I think the pat down is completely random at the moment, I been selected on occasion but most times not. However the scanners will not be random if introduced, we all will have no choice but to go through them, possibly with the exception of pregnant women I would hope. I cannot see the local population being at all happy with the idea either for privacy reasons and imagine the extra queuing time its going to take alongside the existing bag scanning etc.

A Burqini is not something anyone NEEDS to wear in Dubai - It is a matter of choice. Dubai is fairly liberal about attire. [color=#0066FF'>Pardon my ignorance, why would anyone choose to wear a burqini? Is it because of lewd looks from male admirers or self body issues? If it's culturally necessary I'm okay with that. But if it's not necessary, I don't understand. I understand not running around in a string bikini with thong, but surely a subdued one piece should suffice?[/color'> A subdued one piece will totally suffice, those who choose to wear the burkini do so from their own choices, there's no compulsion to wear it. <em>edited by Di@DXB on 11/09/2011</em>
