Yes Beebers, Yanni is a brilliant stylist, you can check out her FB page and see her work. If you search her name on here too you will find lots of recommendations besides mine. Sorry to hear you got a bad cut yesterday, its horrible when that happens, I had so many disasters before I found her. maybe pop round to Yanni and see if she can fix it for you.

Ehm... Let me get this straight; You start a thread asking advice on how to fix your damaged hair. Then you reply to yourself with a solution. Interesting. Or maybe you have a twin here on EW? The OP has deleted her original post, I was answering her request for a hairdresser, she said she had used a deal online and had her hair burnt at a salon in Jumeirah, I did not start this thread, I am answering the OP whose name was hafsanaz, why she deleted it I have no idea. I am not a hairdresser, I do not have a twin and I am not even in Dubai, was just trying to help the OP Thanks Marroosh! edited by Di@DXB on 04/01/2015

That's awful, unfortunately hair disasters are quite frequent in Dubai, I have had a few. It sounds like your hair will need to be cut or trimmed, not sure its possible to fix burnt hair but I would consult with Yanni at Ibn Battuta Gate hotel if you are near there, she is a very skilled professionally qualified hairdressers who has been many years on Dubai and much recommended on here too. She will take the greatest care to find a solution I'm sure. Here's one past thread with some details http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic179467-a-truly-great-hairdresser.aspx Hth ETA this is not the OP in this thread. The person who posted a request for hair advice has deleted her original post. edited by Di@DXB on 04/01/2015

Unfortunately there are not many options if they ignore your requests. You have spoken to them, explained how their noise is impacting your sleep, you have written too and asked politely. Other than going round and asking once again, there is only one other option. That is to file a complaint. I have been through the exact same situation in the past, the police advice line told me if I had taken the steps you have already done, I should file a case, they advised that even a child's noise or any excessive sound that disturbs sleep after 8pm weekdays and 7pm weekends is reportable, not just loud music or hammering. The officer said I would need to go to the station to file and that they would pay the family as visit to warn them, and if they repeated the nuisance they would then be summonsed to the station if another incident was reported. Maybe having to drag down to the police station at 1am might make them think it more worth calming their child instead. I did not take that final step but that is what I was told I had right to do.

Warning about Farhad the carpenter - we've just used his services based on the recommendations from this forum and have had a very bad experience. He quoted me to build 2 cupboards and clean up an oak table. When he came to install the cupboards he was adamant his quote was just for one cupboard and not for 2. Which makes it one heck of an expensive wardrobe made of cheap mdf (ikea quality is better). He also managed to drill a hole for the handle in the wrong place, then tried to patch it up with some sort of filler which looks awful. He's refused to adjust his exorbitant price to take into account the fact that I was expecting 2 cupboards for that money and also because of his botch up and has been harassing me for the full amount. I've learned my lesson to get everything in writing but he was quite clear when we discussed requirements what we agreed. I feel badly ripped off and so angry. Please be careful in dealing with this individual. I never had any problems with his work and neither have quite a few others who also recommended him on the forum which is also where I got his name from too in the first place. No idea what went wrong for you but it sounds like a misunderstanding over the price and lack of clarity in the materials agreed upon.

Yup, a sobering reminder, I think its a good idea to contact the consulate even though they do not assist with legal matters, just to report her physical status is advisable, she may have relatives waiting in the UK for the flight she missed, they could be very worried and may contact the Dubai embassy to seek information.

Hello)) I am just 4 weeks in Dubai and all my friends live abroad))) I dont know where to meet New Year.)) Give advice, please)))) I'm sure there will be lots of suggestion on here. Hope you find somewhere. Just out of interest what does all the ))))))) mean? Not meaning any offence but I having an investigative mind I even looked on chat abbreviations for the meaning of repeated use of this symbol that you include in everything you write. Just a curious question from someone who is not that knowledgeable about chat symbols! :) Happy New Year anyway.

Technically it would be breaking the law, what is not always understood is even when you have a license that is only to consume in your home, it actually doesn't even cover you if you are drinking in a licensed hotel or bar, but that's the legal position not what happens in reality. Personally I would not risk it but I'm sure there are many who do.

@ WO, I recall that post, I did not find it strange actually and I was living in Dubai then, it could even have been useful to some to have her viewpoint however I respect your right to have that opinion. I think given the topic of this thread it was relevant for me to make a comment on my perspective. I don't post my views just for the sake of it or where its off topic. People are complaining this forum is boring and just an information board. it certainly will be if we cannot say anything more than where we can find that elusive grocery item. edited by Di@DXB on 31/12/2014 Thanks Di. As I said, I don't mind *constructive*, objective posts made by expats who have returned to their home countries. But that particular poster only said negative things about Dubai and praised her lifestyle in the UK - which, let's face it, was very privileged and not representative of what most Brits could afford. It was almost as if she was saying "well my life here is much better than yours, although you couldn't afford it if you returned here". As such I found her approach quite passive aggressive. Oh and she even admitted that one of her favourite pastimes was 'Dubai-bashing'! Not what I would call constructive. edited by WhiteOrchid on 31/12/2014 Yes, agree this is not the place for negative attacks on Dubai, I must have missed those ones.

Have you got her a lawyer? I think she will need one and possibly bail could be arranged. I think if another passport is offered as guarantee they may let her go too. All the things that we were requesting for so many years has finally been applied this year. Thread direction, Avatars returning...only thing missing is the private messaging facility but I am personally not bothered with that. Forum a lot slower than what it used to be however I think that is because people chat on Facebook groups now with others who have similar interests. [b'>I still think its a great and super helpful forum.[/b'> [b'>I will probably still be visiting this forum someday when I am living in another country[/b'>! Lol! Happy 2015 everyone! I agree and I think there's always room for useful contributions whatever part of the planet they come from. I think the PM feature will be very useful for passing on direct info and hopefully help the board to be a more lively place. I'm sure admin have thought this out very thoroughly after taking on board all the recent comments about how slow it is these days. Happy New Year!

If this is directed to me I have not said the UK is better than Dubai at all, I have only commented on my feelings towards coming home, how I feel its better for me now, how my sense of belonging here is meaningful for to me, and I said that everyone of course feels differently about different places and that home is where the heart is. Sorry I don't understand what is meant by "the UK and it's pants...." I don't think I'm the only one on the forum who revisits it after moving elsewhere, I think its quite natural to want to go on contributing especially when there's something useful to pass on. Are you saying ex expats should not come here, would you never make one more post if you left? I'm not really seeing the connection between living in a country and posting on a forum. There are for example lots of posts on the UK board by Dubai forum members. edited by Di@DXB on 31/12/2014

The flying Chinese Lanterns were banned last year by the Municipality. So you may have a wasted trip if you go to Dragonmart to look for them and have trouble if you fly them even if you do find them there.

He was advised that surgery would not be helpful at this time and was given some gentle exercises to strengthen the leg muscles do they can support the knee better and give the injured area behind the knee cap some rest. The specialist said that if it worsens in future which he foresaw as being a long way off, by that time there will be non invasive treatment available, this doctor is one of the top knee specialists in the UK and involved in the front line development of the latest methods in his field. I would be happy to pass his details on to you if you wish.

The only one I can recommend is in the UK, DS had a similar accident and has suffered pain for years gradually becoming worse, doctors in Dubai wanted to operate, but we took a second opinion and were very glad we did, he saw a top specialist in the UK who advised surgery was not indicated at all, the Dubai doctor was about to do an unnecessary operation that was not indicated. Please take a second opinion, and just for comparison we saw the UK doctor privately so it would have been in his interest to do the surgery too.

We all have different opinions. As I said juicing is not for everyone, but you havent read or watched enough. And the person who mentioned the company selling kitchen gadgets advising about juice, that made me giggle - have you actually read the websites and did you read about Jason Vale, Joe Cross or Kriss Carr. How about Gerson Therapy. Im thankful I have the knowledge I have, I will use it for me and refrain from sharing again as it seems to upset you all. You stick your Drs and pharmaceuticals and misled FDA sponsored research - I will enjoy the raw foods nature provided :) The doctor did not advise against eating raw food, absolutely the opposite if you read what I said, he was advising against drinking too much fruit juice in place of whole raw fruit. So as giggleworthy as it is to you you have actually agreed with his opinion,

Sorry I don't like the design at all, too much of a jumble colorwise and the Arabic looks like its striking the English out. They could have done much better. Talk about being contrary! Striking the English out? Lucky to even have English on the plates! I don't have a problem if they take the English off altogether and just have the Arabic, I think that would look way better actually, it just looks wrong the way they have tried to integrate the letters. I am merely speaking from the design perspective, not politically ([i'>why do you try to put a political spin on everything?[/i'>) so I don't get where I'm being contrary? To what? edited by Di@DXB on 30/12/2014

There could be warranty issues if you do not buy from the main Apple dealer, we were looking at this recently and although there were online offers and some stores like Geant and Sharaff Digi where the prices were attractive, we bought from the dealership and actually ended up with a better deal in the end. I would never buy from Souq, did once and the item was not brand new as advertised and did not work.

Nope - Im studying nutrition and bilology also. First, the sugar in fruit is not the same as white refined toxic sugar. Second, the juices are vegetable based with fruit added. Ive juiced before and Ive seen my mums diabetes 2 readings drop after 7 days on juicing (bearing in mind there are 35 apples alone consumed by her on the first 3 days). The body is nature, fruit and veg is raw nature full of active enzymes, the body knows what to do with something natural and therefore, no there is no spike in sugar levels on any amount of juicing as long as a proper programme is followed (Jason Vale - Juicemaster or Joe Cross or Natural Juice Junkie etc). NOTE : this does not include shop bought juices in cartons or bottles as they are FULL of sugar and are heavily processed/pasteurized with little/no nutritional value (just calories), they WILL Spike your sugar levels) "The sugar in fruit is not the same as white refined toxic sugar" While I agree white refined sugar is unhealthily, as far as the pancreas is concerned its going to have to deal with the blood sugar levels wherever the sugar is derived from. If a lot of fruit juice is consumed there will be an overload of fructose which is not healthy for the pancreas either while Fruit eaten in its whole form will only contain a little fructose and it will absorb into the bloodstream slowly as its released by the fibre in the whole fruit. A very eminent UK endocrinologist once told me that we all should eat as if we were diabetics, he stated that the juicing trend is one of the very worst health misconceptions around. I would have thought an specialised expert in the medical field would be qualified to know better than a company that promotes the sale of their kitchen gadgets.

I feel your pain, I was heartbroken when my cat was run over outside my house, the driver was completely uncaring. Will never forget that day when the front door bell rang and a man stood there holding my lifeless cat by the tail. Even DH was teary eyed for days. It's a real loss, its your loss and meaningful to you, I did think the title might have been related to international news, but its not wrong of you to express your feelings in that form. Try to recall all the good moments, after the tears have dried you will have lots of fond memories.

I've been an expat for more than two thirds of my life, but living abroad never altered my sense of where my real home is or my connection to my birthplace, if anything it reinforced it, true things have changed in UK over the decades i have been away, some for better some for worse, likewise did Dubai. Coming home has given me a stability and contentment beyond the superficial trappings of life, a feeling of belonging to the place you live in is priceless, at least it is to me, something that was increasingly missing in Dubai, there are challenges everywhere that's to be expected but that doesn't make me feel disconnected to the point of not knowing where I belong, I guess home is really where the heart is and that may be different places for different people.

My old upright was useless and I hate Henry and his stupid smiley face - he gives me backache every time I use him! I'm really grateful for the advice as sand hadn't really occured to me as being a daily problem (she says in a rather embarrassed way :shy:). Fortunately no prescription meds but I'll stock up on other stuff - currently going through medicine drawer and checking all legal. Need to find a replacement for Paracodol :( [b'>How about ink cartridges - are they worth investing in?[/b'> I find the HP cartridges cheaper in the UK than in Dubai not sure about the other makes.

The problems the UK is facing now are not unique to thevUK alone, as far as being treated like scum its not at all my experience. I am constantly pleasantly surprised how respectfully and kindly I am treated here back home on every level. dear it is perfect you caught it early thank god you are lucky for that but I agree with you we need in such a sunny country a regular checkup with the dermatologist exactly like the dentist I have dr alrustom with me since day one in Dubai and I trust his experience a lot !!!!!!! wish u always good health!!! You seem to have had many many procedures done at this doctor, nearly all you posts are worded with the same recommendation. Do you work there by any chance? I think its a fair question because people are looking for impartial recommendations, and OP in this thread was not asking for a dermatologist either.
