I have a flyer for Chiropodist & podiatrist Kersten Elliott at Dubai Physio & family med clinic - tel: 04 3496333 - it came from the EW You in Dubai coffee morning in September. Not tried her yet, but need to fix an appointment myself too. It looks comprehensive. I've known Kirsten for years from the uk - she's lovely and is supposed to be excellent. I'd definitely go to see her.

Try insureforall.com or check out the moneysavingexpert.com site and put in cheap travel insurance. The other thing you should check out is the ethic card.they do ehic insurance but I'm not sure if that covers Dubai I used it for my mum when we went to Spain last month but they have to have their ehic card (you get that online) before you can buy the enhanced package. How about at home? NYE is really busy, the roads are crowded, overall not an ideal place or time (midnight for the fireworks) for a two year old. Just my opinion of course. I would agree - the best place for a 2 year old on nye is in bed!!!!!

If it's the same 'top' photographer taking the posed school photos - I have had some superb ones and one year had the worst ever picture of my very very photogenic girl.....I called them to say how disappointed I was and said that I had never seen a bad picture of my daughter but that they had excelled! They were happy to re-take as long as I took her in her school uniform to the studio - I did that and ended up with a great photo. So......if you really want the pictures and they are really so awful - give them a call - I suppose when you are photographing so many you are bound to end up with a few dodgy ones - after all - it's not the man himself taking the photos just young photographers from his studio. Worth a call.....I'm glad I did.

Good old Jane - Metanium is the best ever for the worst nappy rash. It's thick and bonds to the skin - it's like a tube of mustard but boy does it work! Hope you can meet up and get it and fingers crossed in a day or 2 you will be looking at a much better little bottom. It might be worth asking Boots over there to see if they stock it - if they don't the one at Ibn Battuta are really good at noting down products that people would like to have and they try to get them stocked. it really is a magic cream.

My mum is on warfarin and she has very regular blood tests to check her pt/inr levels. Sounds to me like your friend is not having the levels check - her meds need tweaking - she should not be bleeding. Is she in Dubai? If it was me I would find a specialist who will test her as often as she needs and get her warfarin to a level that suits her and stops her bleeding. It can take a while to get the dose age right and it still continues to be monitored. Is she having inr level checks regularly? My mum goes from needing a blood test once a month to once a week depending on the blood test results but if you have a good dr it can be controlled very well and she should feel much better and lead a normal life. Get her to the drs to be checked ASAP. Xx

We are also booked to go to Bab Al Shams for Christmas Brunch. I thought the menu looked great. As long as there is turkey I am there! We went at Easter for their Easter Brunch and it was stunning. They went all out with decorations and did so much for the kids. So I am imagining their Christmas brunch will be just as good, if not better. Our mouths gaped open when we saw the desert room! Sometimes it is hard to imagine the whole atmosphere from looking at a menu :) We didn't know that Santa would arrive across the sand dunes on a camel - you wait - your kids eyes will pop out! Don't tell them before - it was magical! Just remembered..... last year bab al shams was in the Jumeirah group so that's what we experienced.....you might want to check with the new Meydan group who now run the hotel that they will be doing the same...... edited by Clairehdp on 01/12/2011

Definitely bring her over with you. We did the same with our cats - we thought they would be better staying in their home surroundings but we missed them sooooo much - one died when we were away and we just couldn't bear the one remaining cat being on her own so we organised everything and brought her over. Her life was different as it was so hot but she settled in quickly and was super happy. She is now back in the UK with us and has settled into outdoor life again. I would never leave a pet again - you miss them soooo much and they miss you too.

Here's the second page! I have to agree, it's not really all that Christmassy, but I think unless you go to a restaurant here which does a specific 4 course Christmas meal, this is probably what you're likely to get. Breakfast Hot Station Veal sausage Pancake Baked beans Beef bacon Oatmeal Live Carvery Roast Turkey with chipolata, bread stuffing, cranberry and gravy Egg Cooked in your style Condiment- Onion, pepper, tomato, cheese, olive, smoked turkey Wok Stir fried Kung pao noodles with chicken Pasta Penne and farfalle with arabiatta/ mushroom cream/ pesto Hot plate Tossed cajun marinated beef and chicken with peppers and onoin Kid’s corner Hot dog Chicken nuggets Pizza Popcorn Candy floss Dessert Composition of tropical fruit salad Crunchy marble cheese cake Christmas pudding with brandy sauce Christmas Yule log cake French pastries Macademia nuts chocolate cake with vanilla sauce Assorted oriental sweet Peach strudel with cheese nut Strawberry cake (Assorted Danish, croissant, and muffins) I know I've seen a couple of restaurants which are doing a Christmas Day lunch, not brunch, racking my brains and will get back to you. ETA 3rd page of desserts - we're sold on the Christmas Yule log! edited by simpleasabc on 01/12/2011 edited by simpleasabc on 01/12/2011 Not really all that Christmassy - Whaaaaat???? It doesn't get more christmassy than roast turkey and stuffing, christmas pudding and yule log!!!!!!!! I thought it was one of the nicest ways to spend christmas overlooking the desert watching santa bobbing up and down on a camel! Simpleas - as you are going on my recommendation - if you don't enjoy it I will buy you a drink to compensate - i arrive on 28th dec!

At least you get bags there - god in the UK I'm asked every single day would I like a bag and I get to pay extra for it! I have to get into the routine of carrying spare bags around with me and it's taking me ages to get into the swing of it. I then decided to buy into the 'bag for life' thing - but........ I've got that many 'bags for life' and still keep forgetting them...... just one of many changes that happened in the UK while I was living in Dubai and something I just have to get used to and remember to take my old bags with me!!!! Don't get me on having to fill my car up with petrol myself - I swear I will never ever get used to that!

Keep reading of a lot of good feedback about Dasa, but we have recently used them and they have been dreadful. Zero communication resulted in container coming twice to our house! Customs fees were several hundred more than a few recently moved friends and the container had not been opened and now we have had 4 appointments made with them to collect the 'debris' and they still havent shown up or rung to say they are not coming. I would not recommend them! Where did you move to Cherry ripe? we moved back to the UK and chose DASA because they were the company who cleared us into Dubai. The company at the UK end were UTS Bournes who packed us up to go to Dubai so we were really keen to use the same people. We had excellent communication from Dubai and the UK - we were able to track the container and everything we were told would happen - happened in the right time frame too. When I booked DASA I told them I wanted UTS Bournes at the other end and this is how we did it. Sorry your move didn't go to plan.

I feel very sorry for him. Amazing the power the family still holds. Dont feel sorry for him. I watched loads of the trial as I was recovering from my knee op and had to rest - I started out feeling he was being treated unfairly but.....after hearing all the information from medical experts etc and seeing that he lied and tried to cover up certain aspects of what happened I would say he got what he deserved. It was nothing to do with the power of a family - it was the power of evidence against him. He showed no emotion through the whole trial and didn't even take the stand. If that was me and I was innocent I would have taken the stand and put my case foward without any doubt.

Yes you can just turn up. Buy your tickets by the booth. You can have lunch in any of their restaurants. If you want a specific restaurant book in advance. Remember there are vouchers in the entertainer. I think the ice cream parlour in there is the best - the staff are sooooo entertaining - nice way to finish your afternoon out with a delicious ice cream.

what about bab al shams? anyone been there for xmas? We've decided to try it there on Clairedhp's recommendation from last year. We've got nephew coming over from Vancouver and the contrast will be amazing for him, though I think I'm going to be more impressed than the teenagers if Father Christmas rides in on a camel from the desert! Depending on weather, will get full pool day as well! Oooooh hope you enjoy it. It was fantastic when we went last year! I would book an outside table - we sat on the terrace and it was glorious. There was so much food to choose from and they kept on bringing out turkeys to carve for you. The food was really good. For me - the whole setting was magical. It's something you will never forget seeing Santa arrive across the sand dunes on a camel. My kids had a great time too - there was loads for them to do and we enjoyed our day immensely. Don't know about pool access but to be honest - we didn't have time to do the pool too. It was just lovely to relax and take our time over our lunch and chill out in the sunshine. I hope it's as good this year as it was last......

All the hotels offer festive menus - they all do special xmas things - they'll all have their decorations up so really the choice is theirs. We have been to JBH on Xmas eve for the christmas carols - we've also been to the Hilton for their xmas carols on xmas eve - it's my birthday on xmas eve and we always try to go somewhere where there is nothing festive and it's really hard to find somewhere because all the places have special festive menus for that time. Wherever they go they are bound to have a great time.

Oh no! I'm in the camp that thinks that's really sad. I sent in a lovely chocolate cake last week for my little girls birthday and each child came over and thanked me - they loved it. I have a friend who has a child with serious allergies but she makes sure that the teacher has a little supply of treats that her little one can have if treats are sent in. He goes to all the parties but takes his own little pack of food. he's only little but is very aware that he has to be careful and for him - it's perfectly normal for him to have a different treat. I accept that nuts in a school is an absolute no no but a birthday sponge cake for them all to sing happy birthday to the birthday child is special and I'd be really sad if our school banned that. I would make sure that the cake is given after lunch break - not before!

I am not sure when the trend for cakes started ... but when I was a kid about 20 yrs back, children did bring in little toffees and chocolates as birthday treats. And IMO there is absolutely no harm in a little treat once in a while! As about children with allergies, dont you think it would be too much to ask 25 children to adjust for one child? DS is restricted from things like cold drinks and swimming, as he suffers from severe case of tonsilitis and everytime he catches a sniffle he ends up with white pus filled patches on his tonsils leaving the little fellow in severe pain. They have a weekly pool day in nursery and he is the only child who has to sit in the class while other kids enjoy their time in the pool (and DS loves swimming). I wish they banned swimming in the nursery ... not. I would be selfish if I wished that! Poor little thing. Get them to whip those nasty tonsils out. I was similar - whenever I got a cold I was laid low with tonsilitus and was on antibiotics so much - in the end my mum insisted on getting the tonsils removed and I bounced back and never had a bad day after that - could join in with everything and hardly ever got sick from that day on.

Basically, I just want to know if there is any way he can kick us out of the house unless he moves in himself or his family. Thanks, you have answered my question! I cannot believe these landlords, seriouslly. During the peak of the real estate market, my own apartment in Dubai Marina was rented for 70 k when the market price was 130!! But I had to suck it up, because this was the law! And right now I am fed up of moving and want to stay for as long as I want too! edited by Eli1979 on 27/11/2011 He can't kick you out either by saying he needs to move in himself. If he needs the property back for his own use he has to give you a years notice to quit. This happened to us a couple of times we filed a case and won and in the hearing our landlord was told we were to be allowed to stay in the property for up to 3 years. He was told that if he wanted to move in he should never have put the property on the rental market. When this happened to us again we checked the law again with the guys at the rent committee and calmly told our new landlord that he was not able to ask us to leave. Be calm be polite and if he raises his voice and becomes aggressive advise him to talk to the rent committee........and walk away. You have rights and after spending your money on his garden you have everybright to stay and enjoy it at no increase in rent or change of terms ie same number of cheques. Good luck. edited by Clairehdp on 28/11/2011

I would highly recommend DASA - they moved us from Dubai to UK and they were excellent. We had quotes from other companies - they were not the cheapest but certainly not the most expensive - Crown were very expensive. We chose DASA because they were also the company who cleared our container and unpacked us when we arrived in Dubai so it was great using the same companies going back home. I dealt with a lady called Heather in Dubai she was excellent.
