i have 2 friends who had all their treatment in Dubai. There is a support group there called Breast Friends - might be worth contacting them for some help, advice and support. Where abouts in the UK is she going to be - 2 friends here have recently undergone treatment in the South. Can highly recommend their surgeons and they were beautifully looked after one in The Royal Marsden and the other had her chemo at the Nuffield in Guildford.

When we first moved to Dubai Arabian Ranches was just being handed over and i was horrified at the thought of living so far out and in the desert!!!! Fast forward 3 years and we moved to AR and loved every single minute there. The roads have changed so much - it's a great location now. You could now look at The Villa - even easier commute for your husband and it's lovely with walks and places for the kids to ride their bikes. So many new communities - worth getting out there and taking a look around. Good luck with the move. Can't help with schools as i know know the BC ones.

the traffic around jbr is still hideous. It's a great location but very busy with tourists especially now the Beach Walk is finished. it's not a great commute for your husband unless you live near the metro and he gets the metro in...... Executive Towers up by Burj Khalifa might be a good option for you. We stayed in our friends apartment there and it was fantastic. Lots of places for the kids to play - really nice gym and gorgeous pools. Where are you moving from? If UK - I am back in UK now but would be very happy to answer any questions you have as we've done the move - we had tons of fun and were there when our kids were little. The apartments in Dubai are huge!

Take him and a group of friends to IFly Dubai at Mirdiff City Centre. They will all love it! Kidzania is really much better for younger kids. my son is 13 on Saturday and there's no way he'd want to go to Kidzania. I did a group at Ifly Dubai - got drinks and ice cream delivered for after the experience - they all loved it. they have a side room and i just took in some balloons and got Cold Stone Creamery (i think it was them or one of the other big ice cream companies) to deliver ice creams. Make sure you get an awesome birthday cake from Jenn at Frosted!

we used Alison at Dubaidoghouse - she was excellent. we used her to clear coming into Dubai and she was excellent and because of that we used her to send back to the UK. The vets were well used to working with her too. this was almost 4 years ago now so not sure if she is still working there but if she is I would highly recommend her.

an awful lot of Repton kids have moved to Nord Anglia and i'm hearing great things about that school. I don't know of that many that made the move to Foremarke but see lots of familiar faces at Nord Anglia. I can't give you any personal feedback on the school but friends are very happy with the move.

We used DASA and would highly recommend them. they were easy to deal with - very professional, the packing crew were excellent and the unpackers in the UK were superb. Made it very easy. I did get others to quote and some were extortionate. also had friends who used Pickfords and it was a nightmare from start to finish and they had a lot of damage to their stuff. I know others who have used DASA and were equally as happy as we were.

I am back in the UK now so if I can help you in any way please just shout. you don't say what area you are coming back to but if you go onto this website and put in your postcode (if you know where you are returning to) and it will bring up the correct rules and regs for applying from abroad for a school place.https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-primary-school-place we are in surrey and I've just taken a look and our council stipulates applying 4 weeks in advance - I think most are 6 weeks but it is all dependent on your local authority rulings. For your younger child it might be a good idea to get him/her placed earlier say June time so he/she has time to meet some children and have some friends for the summer break. If the school was a feeder school for a secondary school this might well work for your older child and it would mean moving into senior school with a group of new friends. however, if it's not a feeder school you may well struggle to get a place in senior. Places do however come up through people moving areas, deciding to go into the private system - all manner of reasons. My son moved into year 7 in September and already 4 boys have moved and 4 boys have joined the school - this is a private school but 1 of the boys joining has come from a very good state school so someone would have been given his place - so places do come up. I found the education department at our council really helpful when we were getting ready to come back. Worth calling and asking all your questions. hopefully they will be able to help you. just be aware that 'in rounds' places have only recently been sent out - some people are very happy with their allocated school and others aren't..... it might be worth a trip over to visit the schools and meet with their admissions people. sometimes the admissions people at the schools are really really helpful and know their way around the systems - as Blimey says. Good luck and if I can help you - let me know..... edited by Clairehdp on 30/04/2015

it's a big big decision to make. we moved back with my oldest going into year 4 and my daughter into year 2. we have been wowed by schools in the UK. So much after school activities - all done in all weathers. my kids have adjusted really well and if you ask them now - year 7 and year 5 they say they love the uk so much more as they can do so much more. my daughter horse rides in all weathers and last week took her first polo lesson in the pouring rain! my son can play rugby, football, cricket all the time - so much sport in the schools (sometimes I think maybe too much when I'm on the touchline freezing cold!!!) Their school plays matches against other schools every week and often twice a week. lots of interhouse matches too. so many fabulous after school activities. We miss Dubai and miss our lovely friends there but we had the chance to come back and decided that we are having such a good time back here and the kids are having such a good time that we are staying in the UK. it's also lovely to re-connect with friends and family. Don't understand the comments about not being able to get jobs - all the 6th formers I know have great Saturday/sunday jobs and jobs in the evenings. I don't know any who want to work who can't get a job - perhaps we are luck in the area we are living plus we have an awesome hotel just up the road with a spa and many of them work there so maybe we have rose coloured specs! Vixen - where are you based - we should try and meet up!!!! I know many who have done their education in Dubai - they've all done really well. just wanted to jump on here and say that we chose to move back to the uk and we have been very very pleasantly surprised - it's a very lovely place to be and the kids have a lovely quality of life and superb opportunites.

My children went to Repton and have slotted back into very good schools here in the UK with absolutely no problems. If anything - they were ahead on reading/English. The only thing they were missing was Religious Education but they've caught up! A word of warning for those intending to come back to the british system - they love their homework here - so although I used to moan at the homework set at Repton it has helped smooth the transition back to the UK hugely! Nord Anglia sounds fabulous and I have many friends who are there - worth checking out!

We did Al Qasr last year with a whole load of kids of differing ages - there were about 50 of us in the group! All kids were super happy and well catered for! Would definitely do that again! Best one we did though when our kids were young was at Bab Al Shams - Santa came over the sand dunes on a camel - it was magical and a never to be repeated special moment. Food was awesome too!

Maldives gets our vote. We took our 2 children when they were around 4 and 5 and it was without doubt one of the best holidays we have ever had. We stayed at the Hilton Resort and Spa on iru Fushi - it was heavenly. they catered brilliantly for the kids and nothing was too much trouble. they were given a soft toy on their beds which they adored. The kids club was run by a lovely lady called Rose (I have no idea if she is still there) and they loved the kids club. We had a superb holiday because the kids wanted to go to the kids club after breakfast, we collected them at lunch time and spend every afternoon in the water with them. it ticked every single box for us as the best holiday ever. We returned a few times and had equally great holidays there. I was asking my kids last week where their best holiday ever has been (they are super lucky and have been to some amazing places) both agreed that The Maldives was their favourite destination ever........

If you are looking at schools in Motor City I would highly recommend you look at living on Arabian Ranches. we lived on Jumeirah Islands and loved it but..... we moved to AR to be closer to school and I have to say I loved AR so much more than JI. You have to be careful on the clusters in JI - some are absolutely fine but others you get bothered with mozzies from the water - some build quality is awful too (although our cluster was absolutely fine). we moved to La Coleccion on AR and the build quality was far better. It's also so much better socially if you are new to Dubai to live as close to the school as you can so your children make friends close by otherwise you will spend half your life on the road driving to play dates.

Help help help. So many different opinions seems we are going round and round in circles, so any advice will be much appreciated. My husband just started his job in Dubai and we hope to follow him shortly from the Uk. We being 21 month old baby and our dog. Finding a property Q: any one recommend the best area to live with a baby and dog? Our dogs needs lots of exercise. We heard The Springs or Hills? We don't have a huge budget. Q: finding it a little difficult to get across to rental agents what we need. Anyone recommend a good one? Baby Q: I have heard that nursery places are hard to get, a years waiting list. Is this true? Can anyone recommend ones they may already use? And rough cost. Lady looking for a job Q: is it difficult for a woman to find a job in Dubai? Are there any flexible working/part time jobs? Hello www.propertyfinder.ae may help with the costs. As OP said the rents have gone up massively of late. Areas with villas and gardens for dogs are Springs Lakes Meadows Jumeriah Islands Jumeriah Park Jumeriah Village Triange Barsha Jumeriah Umm Suqeim With regards to roles it is rare to see any part time roles! full time ones are the norm here and those working hours can be anything from 8-5, 8.30-5.30,9-6 Nursery costs can average 65,000 per year full time however that is for a Western nursery ( My colleagues Son goes to one and he is 18 months old) However they can be cheaper depending on said nursery Good rental agents hmmmm now that is a difficult one. Most people don't start looking for property until they are in the country and usually about a month before they need to move. Everything moves quick here Add to this list of great places to live with dogs Arabian ranches ( you are just up the road from the desert where you can go on amazing dog walks. Virtually everyone I know who is on Arabian ranches has at least 1 dog! Great community spirit too. My favourite place. Green community - again close to desert walking areas Lots of dogs in The Villa area and again close to desert area Friends are living in cedre villas, silicon oasis and have dogs Hth

I completely agree about having children in different schools in Dubai - it's horrendous! I was doing over 100 miles per day...... on school run - drop off one - then drop off another - pick up the 2nd drop off and go home and then out back in the car for the first drop off who finished much later. Don't get me on the holidays.....you can end up with 1 child off 1 week and the other child off a completely different week!.... I would never ever do that again and changed as soon as a place became available. I would completely agree with lolacat - can you get your 12 year old into DESC (Dubai English Speaking College) on Silicon Oasis - I know lots of people whose kids are there and they are very very happy with the school. can you see if you can get your younger kids into the Gems Wellington Academy on Silicon Oasis - at least - although they are in 2 different schools - they are in the same area. I've only heard good things about both schools and it will make your life sooo much easier. as far as living is concerned. Silicon Oasis, Cedre Villas, The Villa, Falcon City are all really close by. good luck - exciting times ahead for you all. edited to add - I didn't realise that Wellington Academy now takes older children so maybe that's an option to have them all at the same school. The children I know who are there are younger and are loving it as are their parents...... edited by Clairehdp on 14/02/2014

The children's Garden offer English/French, English/German and Arabic. Both my children went there and enjoyed every minute there. I would highly recommend the schools. There are schools now in the Green community, Al Barsha and Jumeira. Lovely teachers. I looked at it and fell in love with the whole concept of learning a language whilst playing and having fun! Definitely worth visiting and seeing if you think your little one would enjoy it. they go to year/grade 2 but I took my children out at Year 1 to go into a british curriculum school.

Buy the bond papers relevant to the exam he is going to be sitting - get him to go through those - it's exam technique more than anything this late in the day. as the OP states - he should know the stuff - just practice and get used to exam questions. good luck to him. I'm pretty sure you can buy the bond paper books from magrudy's. Another thing to add is that sometimes it's better to have little notice on a school exam - that way the school can see exactly where the child is and where they need more help. We are now back in the UK and our school holds exams once a year that the children have no warning about. We get the feedback and it's hugely helpful to us and to the teaching staff to see where the children have grasped a subject well and where they have not...... so it's not all bad at short notice - sometimes it helps enormously in their lesson planning.

We had a hearing at the RC quite a few years ago now but I'm sure it's the same. There was a top table with the rent committee top dogs there. someone taking notes. the LL sat on one side and we sat on the other side. It was a wooden panelled room - laid out just like a proper court room. We were assured that our hearing would be in English and it was. We were asked to state our claim. We were advised by someone who had been to a hearing before that you only get a few minutes so you need to practice getting all the important points out in your first minute or so. So we had a sheet of the most important points and my DH stood up and stated the important reasons as to why we had filed a case against our LL. We thought our LL would then have the opportunity to place his reasons for why he wanted us out of his villa but the head guy on the committee rounded on him and asked him why he was there and why was he asking us to vacate the property! He told him in no uncertain terms that if he had problems with his LL he should file his own case. That we were to be allowed to stay in his villa for up to 3 years. He also told him that if he felt he had wanted to use the property for his own family (this is what he told us) then he should never have placed it on the rental market! It was over and done with in a few minutes. Our LL was furious and stood up and started shouting in Arabic . we were told that the case was over - we could stay in the property for at least another 2 years at the same rent and we were free to go. Our LL would have to pay the fees out of our rent cheque. We were encouraged to leave even though the LL was still jesticulating and arguing. He was told to sit down and that the case had been ruled and he was to take our rent minus the court costs. Outside the court room he tried to strike a deal with us - so we just suggested to him that we go back into the court room as he had clearly not understood that the judgement had been made in our favour. He was beside himself with anger but had to accept that he had lost the case. Through his pure greed he ended up getting less rent for our 2nd year in his property because he had to pay all the court costs. It's crazy that these people think they are above the law. It was very formal but it did seem very fair. I would recommend you are well prepared and have answers ready for all eventualities. Have costings to hand regarding your new rental - curtain costs, moving costs etc etc. good luck and please do let us know how you get on.

Your best bet would be to look on the rental pages of Prime location.co.uk and rightmove.co.uk. You can put in the location you are interested in and how many bedrooms and how much you want to spend and it brings up all the available properties. we are in Surrey and there are some lovely areas around here and very easy for Heathrow and Gatwick airport. Great local schools too. Lots of open spaces and beautiful forests for fun times for the kids and only an hour away from the beach. We took the kids and the dogs to the beach yesterday it was blue skies and sunshine and we had a fabulous time. Lots of small villages with lovely chocolate box cottages in this area - Surrey/Hampshire/Berkshire

I travel all the time with my 2 kids on my own. It's only recently that I've been aware of immigration asking the children more questions about who they are travelling with (my passport is in my maiden name so I have a different surname to my children). I asked immigration last time it happened (in the UK only flying in from Spain) and he advised me that probably best to travel with a copy of the children's birth certificates. I've travelled all over with the children often on my own and it's only really in the last year that I've been aware of more attention being paid to the fact that the children are questioned more. I will do those copies now this has been raised and keep in their passports.

Thanks A Rancher! Having seen boarding now at close hand if we came back to Dubai (always on our radar but managing to duck it at the moment!) then I would have no issues sending my children to boarding school and, when I was in Dubai, I was pretty anti sending the children home for schooling but...... having experienced a true british curriculum in a great british prep school...... it's an amazing experience and one my kids are loving each and every day.

Poor you - sounds awful. My mum had skin cancer on her face and had to have surgery. We were all really shocked when the dressings came off but once the swelling had come down the scarring was not too bad. She was encouraged to massage the scar with Bio Oil and I have to say that you would be very hard pushed to see any scar at all and when I think back to how horrific her face looked after surgery - it's absolutely amazing. It's probably best to seek medical advice but my husband had an operation recently and he was encouraged by the surgeon to massage bio oil into the scar to help with healing and his scar is minimal. Hope you feel better soon and remember - it's very early days - it's amazing how our bodies heal.

It's a really hard decision to make. My sister has had to make the decision based on the very best for her boys. All are top musicians and each one has gone to a different school - 2 board. the youngest has recently started at Eton and was hugely homesick for the first few weeks. I am now back in the UK and am close by but he dug deep and didn't buzz the emergency button! We went to see him sing in the carol service on Sunday evening in the chapel and I have never seen such a happier child. He's found his feet, he's made some lovely friends and he's thoroughly enjoying himself. I am the closest member of the family for him to call if he needs something or he needs to see someone. So far.....even in his unhappier days of settling in - he didn't call. Letters are hugely important. I hadn't realised. I've been sending him e mails and messages on facebook but my mum went up to see his room and tells me that every letter he has received he has pinned to his noticeboard. He says that every day they rush down to see if there is post - so do get people to write to her as it's so exciting for them to get cards and letters in the post. My older nephew is now boarding full time and we were talking about it this weekend when we were all together. He doesn't live very far from the school but with concerts and rehearsals and music lessons etc and all the other activities that are on at the school that he loves to take part in he said he wasn't getting quality down time travelling to be back home every night. He was the one who requested to board and he loves it. Boarding doesn't suit everyone - I went to a school with boarders but as a day girl and the boarders had sooooo much fun! I remember being quite jealous of the fun they had there as I had to run down the hill to catch the train home! I remember only 1 girl in the boarding section not enjoying her time there. The school my children go to now takes boarders and we do, from time to time, let the kids board because they are desperate to - the school does nerf gun tournaments for the boys and movie nights with popcorn for the girls as well as many other great activities - cooking pizza in the pizza oven in the gardens is my favourite one! My boy just loves it and he's 10. My little girl enjoyed her few nights there but she's only just 9 and wouldn't at this age want to board too often. I have a friend in Dubai who has recently sent her boy back to the UK to board. He was not doing well in his Dubai school and he's thriving in his traditional UK prep school boarding and doing so many outdoor activities. He's back every holiday in Dubai and seems to be super happy. It's not a decision you take overnight. I am sure you have talked and talked about this option. I am in Surrey and if the school is close and I can help in any way with dropping tuck in for you, taking her something special from home, please don't hesitate to let me know Sandy Dogg. We have been looking at senior schools and many of them around our area have boarding - we have met many of the boarders on our school showarounds and they are so animated, happy, well adjusted and proud of their schools - which is a fabulous thing to see and experience. We have been into the boarding houses and they are home from homes. Granted not great big villas with pools in the garden but cosy, warm, homely environments with people who truly care about your childs well being and happiness. Good luck to you both.

this is the recipe I use - super easy and really tasty chicken Korma 1.kg Chicken breast or mini breast fillets 1 heaped tablespoon of finely grated fresh ginger 3 cloves of garlic, minced 150g thick (plain) yogurt 1 dried red chilli 2 finely chopped onions 1 tbsp ghee or veg. oil 1 tbsp ground coriander Pinch of ground black pepper 1 tsp turmeric 1 tsp garam masala water 75g creamed coconut salt, to taste 2 heaped tbsps ground almonds finely chopped Coriander Leaves, to garnish juice of 1/2 lemon Instructions: 1. Cut the chicken breasts into bite sized chunks 2. Mix the chicken with the ginger, garlic and yogurt. Cover and marinade for 12 hours or in the fridge overnight. 3. Liquidise the chopped onion and red chillies, add a little water if you need to. blend til smooth. 4. Heat the ghee/oil in a pan. 5. Add the ground coriander, ground black pepper, turmeric and garam masala and stir fry for about 1-minute over a low heat. 6. Turn up the heat, add the onion and chilli paste and stir fry for 10-minutes. 7. Add the chicken and the marinade and continue to stir fry for another 10-minutes. 8. Add the creamed coconut and enough water to *just* cover the chicken and bring to the boil, stirring until the coconut is dissolved. Stir in the ground almonds. 9. Reduce heat to low, cover the pan and simmer until the chicken is tender (30-40 minutes). 10. Remove from heat, add lemon juice and salt to taste. Mix well.

There are laws there Eli1979 to protect you as a tenant. You should not be paying a major increase every year - this is why the Rent Committee is there - to protect you from an unscrupulous Landlord....... Our Landlord gave us an eviction notice to quit after a year in his property and he cited that he wishes to sell. the rent committee told us that he was free to sell his property but that he had to renew our lease agreement for a further year and had to give us a years notice to quit. They said that if he wanted to sell he had to sell with tenants in situ but with a signed for non renewable lease so the new owners would know that by a certain date we would move out or they could continue to renew with us having a new landlord.
