They also from time to time do crackdown campaigns and check ad hoc on the labour cards etc it's not worth the risk. They also often do spot checks as sandy dogg has said.

soooo nice after a night out SK x Street Van? what is that? Like an ice cream van? Which kind of area did you come from? I have property in the UK and have never seen anything like that. Seriously you've never seen one! We have one that parks in a lay-by in the country and he's oooooo busy.

Sounds like they are just too tight. My little girl often tightens her goggles and comes out with huge red rings around her eyes. She's fine when she doesnt change the setting when I put them on. I think it's trial and error to find the perfect ones fr her. Our swimming teacher always recommended the zogg ones there are lots of different size and shapes. The ones that suit my little girl do not suit my little boy for example and that was just trial and error. Maybe a store like decathlon will let you try on the different pairs to see which ones feel the most comfortable for her. <em>edited by Clairehdp on 26/10/2011</em>

Hmmm. When DH went to connect our villa there was an outstanding amount of Dh600 (thanks, Dubai Properties!) and he had to pay that before he could connect us :(. Dc your landlord should pay that -send him the bill xx

If there is a bill outstanding your landlord should pay it from the retained deposit. If the previous tenant did not give the landlord a copy of the final paid bill then the landlord has every right to retain the deposit for such purposes so contact the new landlord immediately. Thanks ladies, your comments are very reassuring and i do absolutely trust the doctors. I'm in the UK, came here in the summer with my 2 little boys, found a lump the night we were flying, and we never made it back to Dubai! Two weeks later I was starting chemo. It's been a very stressful 3 months even without this! But I'm staying positive and must look into ice scating A couple of friends of mine both chose lumpectomies over mastectomies and both are doing great. I am now back in the uk. If you need a Dubai buddy to help you through I'd be very happy to meet up with you. I am in Surrey. I'm just recovering from knee surgery so will be mobile in another week or so. Please let me know if I can help you. I agree with the others that a great attitude and fighting spirit helps and it sounds like you have this.

No, she's just had her 1 month paid holiday and return flights home in August. edited by Sugarbeach on 20/10/2011 Then no she's got it wrong. Go through the contract with her and let her see that she has had all shes entitled to.

If she as not had 4 weeks vacation time but worked for the whole year then yes she is entitled to a months salary in lieu of vacation. Maybe that's what she means. <em>edited by Clairehdp on 20/10/2011</em>

He has to stick to rear regs even though many feel they do not. So if you wish to renew I would call his bluff and send him your intention to renew 91 days in advance so you beat him by 1 day if he plans to send you a notice to quit. If he plans to sell or move in he needs to give you 12 months notice so you will get another year and, as this is your first year renewal it is to be renewed at the same rent and terms and conditions. The only thing he can add is a clause giving you 12 months notice to move out at the end of this renewal. We have had this done to us A couple of times and we have always gone in person to the rent committee for advice and they are very clear. You have a right to stay there longer than just 1 year and they support you. You dont need to be discussing this at 6 months into your rental. There are quite a few on here who have been in this position who can assure you that you are allowed to stay. Don't let the ll bully you - just make sure you advise him of your intentions in plenty of time and do not miss the deadline.

Go west jum beach hotel Pizza express Riving ton grill - book an early table on the balcony and he adults get to have a superb meal too! Best view of the fountains and they do a super kids menu Pf changes Tribes Arabian ranches golf club brunch is super kid friendly and outside the restaurant is great always kids there and it's very safe Meat company at souk al bahar I'd great no kids menu but we would order a bigger steak and cut some off or the kids and order a side jacket or fries My 2 love the rainforest cafe Their all time favourite was the old hard rock cafe though Pf changs both in moe and mirdiff are super with kids All pizza express Biella

Ask Ikea for Jeseel's number - he's the tailor who does the Ikea curtains you could call him direct. I've used him loads of times and he's quick, easy to deal with, reliable and reasonably priced.

When I read this thread header I just knew it was going to be a boy! So many of my friends and me included had a pretty awful time either just before our boys turned 7 or right after they turned 7. Aggressive, stroppy, angry etc etc. For a month or so I thought my gorgeous blonde haired blue eyed boy had turned into an alien. When I mentioned this to friends when I was looking for some answers most mums of boys who had older boys told me that boys can have big surges in hormones at 7 yr intervals and this can causevthis aggressive out of character behaviour. We got through it over a month or so and my funny entertaining little joker who loves life, school and people returned just as fast as he disappeared. Maybe it's something to do with that for your boy. If I had not experienced it myself I would not believe it but I've now seen it happen with quite a few of my friends boys and some of the changes in the behaviour has been shocking but they have all returned to themselves - we are now all dreading he 13/14 year period!!! Good luck I hope the school are able to help you through whatever is happening. Does the school have a occupational therapist who could assess your son o see if they can identify a reason for this big change for you? Good luck - you are not alone - boys can be tricky!!

There's a lady in Arabian ranches who teaches Indian cooking her company is spice nd aroma - she's fantastic. If you want to learn Arabic cooking put a thread up for exile - she's super. There's a lady in the meadows juree who teaches Thai cooking do a search on here for her number. You could contact Nicky at frosted as I think she runs cupcake decorating classes If you want to do photography do a search on here as there are some good course that have been recommended on here. Great, thanks for that. I was worried this request might put a LL off, but if it's becoming standard practice it should be OK. I know what you mean about the rent already paid. I'm hoping I'll be able to time a possible move in with the end of a cheque payment. Thanks ladies.:) If you are unsure of how long you are to be here don't sign a lease with one cheque take one with 4 or 6 there are more and more properties on the Market with multiple rent cheques.

Just not wanting to go to your closest family members wedding is t hood enough. I think a big old chat s needed. You need to understand exactly why he doesn't want to go. Does he have an issue with your sisters fiancé? Has anyone from your family ever upset him? You say other half - is he actually your husband? If you are not married yet perhaps he doesn't want to face everyone on the day asking the inevitable question - so when are you and pollydxb tying the knot?..... Time to talk to him if there are o money or time off issues......

Oooooh another thing I did which I was really pleased with was home made cranberry sauce. You can make it well in advance and keep it in a jar in the fridge. I used Delia Smiths recipe but added cointreau to half of it so I had 2 options. If I can find the recipe I will post it. It's soooo easy and they have fresh cranberries in the stores there early for Thanksgiving so you could do it before baby arrives and have it all ready! Just warm through on the day to serve. It's also lovely cold on cold turkey sandwiches the next day! Here it is - I ended up doing double and splitting it into 2 and adding port to one and cointreau to the other. We always did the christmas turkey take out - and always had fantastic turkeys. Over the years we've done Hilton Jumeirah, Sheraton Jumeirah and Marriott in the Marina - if I was giving birth close to Christmas I would get my order in for the fully catered package. all you need to do then is pick up some of the lovely tiny mince pies from Waitrose. If your family are coming from the UK make sure they being a M&S luxury mince pie - then all you need to do is make your own brandy butter (easy - and freeze it) and make sure that you buy the delicious local thick double cream and you are sorted for a very easy, delicious and memorable christmas meal. The only thing I would do is do a great big tray of home made roast potatoes - I don't like hotel roast potatoes. I also did cointreau cream cos I love that on mince pies and xmas pudding! Enjoy and good luck with your december baby - I was a christmas eve baby!

i've used eat and drink on a number of occasions and they were excellent. They are easy to deal with and the guys they send are very organised. I would highly recommend them. I've also been to a party where Al Arrab did the schwarmas and they were very good too.

Have you tried Waitrose? their bread that they bake there is really good. Best place for bread imo is Le Success in Motor City you can watch them make it there and they will come and talk to you about all the different types of bread they bake - absolutely delicious!

Hi JFine7412, I am from Australia, and have lived here in International City with my husband for the last six months. No children yet though. No, it isn't JBR, or the marina, or even Mirdif.... but we paid our entire rent in one cheque upfront and no longer have to worry about it. I live right next to a carrefour, and a five minute walk from a spinneys. If I don't want to cook, there are countless great takeaways available at very quick notice. Near me I also have a beauty salon, a locksmith, a bakery, clothes shops, laundries (yes! I hate ironing) and a tunisian restaurant that does THE most amazing tea. Now I live in France, which is not families only, but there are clusters that are. Spain, and a fair bit of the CBD area where some of the buildings have pools. Despite the bachelors, I have NEVER felt unsafe here, not in the entire time I have lived here- they are more likely to help you carry your furniture than do anything untoward. I know a South African family that live in the CBD area with their daughter and are very happy here- and live in a families only building. I live 10 minutes from Mirdif if I want a big carrefour, or to shop, and the same from DSO which has a post office and a less busy but very good choithrams. As for the sewage problem, six months and never seen it. Not once. Now it feels like **** (ha ha) from Gulf News to fuel the fire about where I live :) If you do move here, keep an open mind, be prepared to see something different. It isn't Western homogenized like most of the communities where expats live here. If I can give any advice, including the name of a good realtor, email me [email protected] if you want to visit and see it I am happy to show you around. It's always good to hear from someone who is actually there. I had no idea that there were family only areas so that's much better - maybe they designated those areas when they opened it up to more batchelors. The only thing I will say though is that you have only been there 6 months and therefore have not yet experienced it when the heavy rains come - I know it's only a few days/weeks per year but my goodness that's when the sewerage problem comes - hopefully the work has been done and it won't happen this year.

I would not consider international city especially with young children. They had a nightmare with raw sewerage in the streets when it first opened and it became known as international s**tty! I know people who lived there and couldn't wait to get out. It's a low price for a reason. Also many of the companies are now using it for their staff accommodation so there are lots and lots of single there really not a family orientated area. I got lost around there a couple of months back when I was looking for a business office and I ended driving all around it and I couldn't wait to leave. Some areas are really nasty with lots of rubbish.

I completely agree with quizzme. I've been to all of the restaurants mentioned here (had an awful, awful evening at seafire and would not go back) but I would highly recommend prime at the meydan hotel one of the best meals I've ever had in Dubai - absolutely stunning food and probably one of the best steaks I've ever had too. Excellent attentive but not in your face service. They take steaks very seriously there and will spend time getting the cut and cooking method exactly as you like it. I burnt my arm at Ruth chris's on the crazy hot plate! If it's steak you want I also really like rare at the desert palm resort - very peaceful setting and excellent steak but prime wins hands down for me!
