I do a green smoothie daily for breakfast. Is this the same thing? I add whatever green leaves I have in my fridge. I've been trying to get ahold of Kale too. I'm pretty sure I saw some in Waitrose. I'm going there tomorrow so I'll check and let you know.

Sorry CP... only just got in. We have a checked flat cap that you can borrow.. I am in Layan, 2 mins from Ranches. Let me know if you want to borrow. Regarding the trousers we just used black trousers with the hems ripped off and a hole or 2 in the knees :) Roysie, sorry I haven't logged on for a couple of days. That would be great thank you, if you don't mind? Let me know how to contact you....I don't mind coming to Layan, I went there a couple of months back when we were looking at villas there, so I think I remember how to get there... thanks again :)

I did that today Suze63 and one place quoted Dhs 285 and another Dhs 110!!! ( not including material) ....I found a 3 piece suit for Dhs 80 ....can't go wrong with that really. I don't want to spend lots of money on something he's wearing for 2 days.... It's the hat lol I went into loads of shops in Satwa and they had nothing! Wish I'd brought my baker boy hats with me now when I moved here lol I think we're paying around that (we didn't shop around as it was hot and we had a car load straight from Barras!!) lol I'd be rushing to come home too ;) I think girls outfits are probably harder to improvise with what's on offer in Satwa....boys are easier, I'll just get him to roll around in the sand with it on to make it scruffy ;)

We have a flat cap and an old black waistcoast that my son used as oliver.... not sure what age you need it for?? Thank you so much Rosie :D He's 11 , I'd be interested in knowing where I can buy the cap, which I'm finding difficult to get here. He has a small head so he may be ok. I'm not too worried about the waistcoat as I've found a cheap 3 piece suit from Satwa, which I can roughen up. Out of interest what did your son wear for his bottoms? Did he recently play Oliver at the theatre? :) <em>edited by coco pops on 28/05/2012</em>

Out of the two I'd go with Virgin I flew here with BA & my return is with them. They come across as not liking kids, and they don't help. I travelled alone with my 2 LO's when I came out here, and on landing my LO was fast asleep so I had to carry him out along with my hand luggage and hold my other childs hand. I was struggling & BA staff didn't even offer to help. In fact other passengers offered their help to me! Wasn't the cleanest of aircrafts either & the tv screens didn't work. Thumbs down for BA from me I'm afraid. ( & I used to really like their service before)

Well seeing as it is about dress code.... Earlier today while driving along Al Sufouh Road in the direction of Jumeirah ( by the Palm turning) I see a man jogging topless :\: Luckily with no cars behind me or on either side, I was able to do a double take, in fact a triple take and I must say, it was rather refreshing...maybe I don't get out much but I don't get to see many topless torso's on the road in Dubai!!! Must say he was very well "toned" :D

I'm glad it's being highlighted in the newspapers, & I'm all for it. It was increasingly winding me up seeing some women in malls with total disrespect to the dress code. The stickers and notices are everywhere in every mall, to respect the dress code....so why?!!! I saw a couple of ladies wearing mini skirts so so short you could see their cheeks. Any man ( or woman) is going to do a double take, it's certainly attention...just the wrong kind! There's no need to be half naked in order to appear s&xy, it can be achieved in a modest manner too. In fact, I find most the women in Abaya's more graceful and sohisticated than the ones semi clad ;) my opinion :)

I've heard mixed reviews about this book. Some of my friends seem to think I would really enjoy it ( I have NO idea why?) while others think I so would like the way it's been written...lol So, in order to form my own opinion,I've been trying to get hold of this book. I was told it had been banned here? Is this true? I thought it was a thriller..... Of course now I am determined to get my hands on a copy to see what the fuss is about....where did you buy your copies from?

Maybe she didn't intend for it to come across as negatively as it did? I'm pretty sure if you said something to her, she'd probably apologise for it coming out the way it did? If she doesn't know you, why would she say something negative? eta: I'm liking Good Mornings link :) <em>edited by coco pops on 13/05/2012</em>

My DH posted this scam on a google group that he's a member of, and he was so surprised by the amount of replies he received from other men having fallen for the same "arm" scam. One man gave Aed300 to someone because he felt so bad for him, yet he says at the time he felt something was felt 'quite not right'. He wishes he'd gone with his gut instinct now. Also, if I remember correctly, there's now a law to say that you can't collect money on behalf of somebody, unless it's through a charity.Anyone caught collecting money will be prosecuted.I was receiving a few emails from people collecting on behalf of sick people in need of financial help. One I received the other day was quite sad, I am tempted to drive to the hospital to see if it is a genuine case, that way I can give to the family directly...

I had the same after my LO, my hormones played havoc with my facial hair! I go to K med spa on Jumeira Road....I pay AED 350 for my upper lip, sides, and chin. They also did under my chin too because they said I was hairy there too (?!!!) I'd a couple done before I'd moved out here, so I can't really say how many you'd need. I'm going to my second session this week after having it done 2 months ago. I know they offer a package where if you pay for 5 they give you the 6th session free, but you're best checking with them first. I have heard you may need more than 6 sessions for your face, but I'd play it by ear tbh. :)

We used to get these all the time. I remember when my father was here visiting and one was shoved under the door...the look of confusion/shock on his face was so funny! Come to think of it, we don't get them anymore. I think someone probably complained, quite rightfully too!

Oh Dear! My DH came home the other day and said a man came up to him, rolled his sleeve and showed him his wound. So he gave him some money for medicine. I've just told him, that it was a scam, & maybe next time offer to take them to the pharmacy/hospital yourself to see if it's genuine! This was around the back of Duabi Garden Centre....

Hi Definitely contact 'all4 downs'. They are a great group. I hope you have the Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre on your list as they offer great Early Intervention services. Please be aware that mainstreaming in Dubai is still at very early stages and you will have to work very hard to get you daughter admitted to a mainstream school - something that is just taken for granted in all western countries. Is it taken for granted in private schools across Europe/UK? Just curious. I think Plum2 may have meant state/government run western schools. A majority of them are gearing towards being inclusive. I don't know about taking it for granted though. I know I didn't.... As Plum2 mentioned, Rashid Centre offer good early intervention programme. Also, contact the support group mentioned below & they will put you in contact with mothers of similar aged children :) HTH

After reading the 'rites', did anyone kill a sheep as well for their baby's birth? 2 for a male; 1 for a girl.... :\: I sent money to a charity, where they organise the slaughtering in a third world country and distribute the meat to those in need.

I found the same thing with the one I use too...so we switched to another one, but the same thing happened. I think generally it happens with most BBC programmes as suggested below. By accident one day we realised that our VPN had in fact disconnected while watching a programme without streaming difficulties (???) So now what I do is I put my BBC programme on, let it play for a little while, press pause, disconnect V@@, and carry on playing the programme...so far this has been working out just fine.... Could be a fluke but try it anyway ;)

If you're looking for special needs schools the three that I am aware of are: Rashid Centre Dubai Centre for Special Needs Al Noor School If you are looking to keep your son in mainstream education then I've heard most GEMS schools are inclusive , particularly Jumeirah Primary School & Winchester ( however, you will need to pay for a shadow/LSA on top of the school fees). If you need any other info contact [email protected] HTH & goodluck :)

I also found this thread interesting ... I've often thought I had a thyroid issue, but like Genie, my results were always "normal". I get most of the symptons and because my results were always fine I thought perhaps I may be peri menopausal (even though my GP ruled that out too).

It's nice to see there are people interested in the "informal" weigh in's....Only wish I'd thought of it before now, I might not have put on the Dubai stone! Funnily enough I prefer the pro points, it's similar to the old Slimming World ( which has now changed too). It's all about the money though, as all the books etc were then changed too....

oh don't know where Izsy's reply has gone but it's believable.... I'm not sure what it's called, but I remember back home, the stuff would get picked up by people who would then go and distribute it to the homeless etc. Does nothing similar happen here?

I've often wished there was WW here...pity there isn't. I stopped before I came out here and I have piled on the KG's, because I know there's no weekly weigh in so no need to count the points! I wish I'd bought over some of my magazines and the points calculator thingy WW give you. Something to remember when I go back in summer I guess. It would also be a nice idea for those that are into SW or WW, if we met weekly to do a kind of informal weigh in and give recipe ideas etc etc..... just for moral support. I know it would make me think twice before I pinch my childrens fries from their kiddy meals !
