While I don't disagree with the list, I must add my moment of horror (what has been seen cannot be unseen!!!) of a male tourist wearing a thong to the beach yecchhh - and I must add this garment to my list of what can be worn by certain people - it needs a weight and an age limit. Ooh, that reminds me of a lady in a thong at Dubai Marina breakwater - she was paying salutations to the sun... and the labourers working nearby were paying theirs to her as were the boat/dhow passengers passing through. (eta: yoga sun salutation) edited by GoodMorning on 23/04/2012 lol that's hilarious hahahaha

My socialising has totally gone in the opposite direction too since we moved here. I used to be out once a fortnight with my girlfriends and a coffee morning at least once a week....here it's occasionally. I actually don't mind it tbh, & I don't feel it as much as I did in the beginning. I suppose it's because I know my time here is limited and so it doesn't bother me so much. Plus skype and fb have me busy most evenings ;) & weekend is family time....

It's times like this when a little beeping and staring and maybe mouthing WTH?!! kinda helps ;) lo...l well it does me anyway.....better than a smack in the face, which at times I believe will truly make me feel better....but I'm a good calm patient person :D

It was a chick flick...I have to admit I enjoyed reading it, because it was a light, requires no brains, type of book. Just what I needed after reading Paulo Coelo's Aleph. Names were silly. Also, the whole story is on the blog is it not? Every sngle chapter...

My children were disappointed, moaned that there wasn't enough rain to get soaked in. However, I've decided...as lovely as it is to get the odd drizzle here, I'm not bothered anymore. In just under 3 months time I'll be going to London for the holidays. It'll rain plenty there...& the kids will moan there too, that they can't play out because it's pelting it down.

I took these diet pills a few years back, they worked similar to below...anyway I lost 1 stone pretty quickly and I looked pretty hot if I must say so myself. It did mess up my sleeping pattern though, even when I took them in the morning. I used to function on 4/5 hours sleep a day. I was like popeye on spinach ;) When I stopped taking them (after 6 months) , my appetite returned and I put on all plus more weight.....& I'm sure my monthly period has been affected because of it :( I wouldn't recommend it, & I wouldn't do it again. I need to lose at least 2 stones ( 28lb) but I'm going to do it the slow but sure way. ( Beeber's I'll prob need your help & advice as you sound very knowledgeable) eta: spell check Just thought I'd share my experience for your decision making purpose ;) edited by coco pops on 29/03/2012

Here is a link from a week or so ago on this topic. http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=175336 I highly recommend Sani Service. Rotetho, their link is: http://www.saniservice.ae/ Coco Pops, ask to have a REAL a/c expert check out your a/cs, not just the maintenance company. We have been having our a/c units cleaned twice a year by a reputable maintenance company but they were FULL of mold -- I mean actual mushrooms growing in our units! I feel a bit duped really.....I have never had central a/c until I moved to Dubai so didn't really know that when these guys say they are cleaning the a/c they are doing the bare minimum which is ok for a bit but after awhile in the dust and humidity of Dubai is completely inadequate. All the maintenance companies do is clean the filters and wipe out the vents. They do not open up the a/c unit and check for mold etc and even if they did and found it, they are unlikely to be able to deal with it properly. Our maintenance company told us Sani Service were the only ones in Dubai to really deal with mold problems. They take out every filter and remove every vent to clean (not just wipe them in situ). They remove the evaporator piece of the a/c which is where condensation collects and so most likely to grow mold and clean it. They have a huge vacuum which sucks dust out of all the ducts in your ceiling. They even cleaned our ceiling tiles. Then, they vacuum and mop everything and once all clean, put a 'fog' through your entire house which kills any remaining mold spores. It is non toxic which was important to us with 3 young kids -- no one in the house when they fog it but you can be back in after 1/2 hour. Sani Service were clean, professional, on time, etc. I sound like their marketing rep but before they came I had a 4 year old who coughed everytime the a/c was on and a baby with respiratory problems. Since they came only a week ago the 4 year old has not coughed once with the a/c on and the baby is better. I feel like crying to think his problems could be because we didn't know our a/c was filthy. They are not cheap by any stretch and not everybody's a/c will be in the state ours was but if you have a real problem, I don't think there are many that can deal with it and it is compromising our health so worth it in my opinion. Thank you Catawba :)

Our landlord has agreed to send maintenance guys to check our AC's are good before we turn them on. What should I request they do? Any ideas please? I'm not keen on switching them on just yet, I suffer from Asma and sinuses, & the thought of AC's blowing out all those mouldy spores etc is really putting me off at the moment! But, they'll need to be on very very soon. ETA: Do those Air Purifiers work and killing all the **** etc? Thought I'd invest in one of those but DH is moaning it's just a money waster.... edited by coco pops on 28/03/2012

Hi Nadiya - Have you heard of EFT? That's Emotional Freedom Therapy. It's a fairly exciting (to me) alternative therapy that helps in a number of ways. I used to have an NLP/EFT practice in the UK where my focus was "Stress and the effects on Health" - However it can be applied to a host of different situations. Even though I'm not practicing in Dubai at the moment, I'd be more than happy to chat with you if you wanted to know more. I've found EFT so effective that I wish they taught it in schools. I don't know of anyone specific, but I think it's a good idea to get checked out by a neurologist to rule out anything physical. you've just reminded me I need to get back into doing this more often...can you recommend a website to help with the tapping points please :) Also, how would it help with memory?

I forget things most the time too, and like GM, I am trying to think/do too many things at the same time. I don't sleep very well either, and I stress very easily. I find it helps if I keep a diary with me all the time and jot my " to do " list in that. I refer to that every morning. I keep meaning to take all the vitamins etc and I think Ginseng helps with memory too (?) I'd speak to a professional though if you are concerned with it, just for your own peace of mind. Sorry I can't be of specific help to you.

Is this necessary? I was thinking of just getting a nice gift at the end of the year. I used to buy a little something at Christmas & a Thank You pressie at the end of the year. Didn't know what the norm was here, so thought I'd check & get some ideas too. Might just get them a little Easter Egg as a Thank you though....
