Thank you for that Roysie....I obviously didn't put the right wording into the search tool! I liked Waha because it seemed less busier than Layan, also, with the nursery there, it will be busy around the times I need to leave for my school pick-ups. But then I liked Layan for the established feel, plus my DS liked it more as there were more boys his age there....I don't know....we'll prob go for the better deal....if we find a place we like that is! Also read a thread re:the driving....oooo errr is all i can say right now! btw I couldn't find your email add at the bottom.... thanks again

Dubai Cat, Cobone are doing an offer today for upper lip (99Dhs per session) thought I'd let you know ;) they have regular offers so no hurry ;) it says for men & women ( though why would men want it done?) I had a male friend who had it done as he had very sensitive skin and every time he shaved came out in a terrible rash no matter what products / razor he used, he also found shaving painful. Besides which he was not bothered about looking too manly... hmmm interesting....never thought of it in that way :)

I found after having pedicures my heels began to crack more.... I use "Crack heel balm" ( I think it's called that) by Scholl, you can get the 7 day one too. I've not bought it here yet, but, perhaps Boot's may stock it,as I bought it from there when I was in the UK. The Baby Feet sounds good too :)

Lashings of Nivea at night, then sleep in socks so it soaks in all night. My old granny's remedy and it works brilliantly (and is cheap). agree! I do the exact same thing! :) yup I use vaseline same results :)

Classic for us, lemon and sugar. After a savoury pancake or two, of course! Did you hear Catboy and Geordiebird this morning? Cook pancake till one side crisp, turn over and put a choc ice on it and leave the other side to cook and the choc ice to melt. Yummy :) mmmmm that sounds lovely....think I'll have to do that for myself tonight ;) eta: choc ice is a small brick of vanilla icecream covered in chocolate without the stick :) edited by coco pops on 21/02/2012

I was the same before I moved out here, after school clubs, paying the tube fares etc etc would have meant I wouldn't have made very much for the stress of it. Here, finding part-time work is hard unless it's in a school, but then with my DS's all at different schools, I would have needed a P/T job for just 3 hours a day...wonder if they do job share here? (thinking to myself) eta...so now I just tutor them myself after school to save on cost and feel like I'm doing "something" useful for my children other than being cleaner/cook/taxi driver/ bottom washer sigh edited by coco pops on 21/02/2012

What I find really annoying though is when people ask me what I do ALL day ( prob because my house is always so messy!) Still though, I'm thankful I have a choice of being SAHM, many don't have that choice.

I had 6 sessions done on my underarms as recommended. Hair returned after four months. :( I was the same :( I had them all done before I moved to Dubai, then I became a patchy hairy gorilla....am happy though it's been a month since i've had to shave my pits. I suppose it's not permanent hair removal though is it? We'll always need top up sessions throughout the year....

I'm the same NiP....I have a lady come in twice a week, yet you'd never know with the amount of mess everywhere! The constant cleaning is ruining my experience of being a SAHM ....I'd love to be a lady who lunches lol As for DH, well let's not go there....unfortunately I have 3 DS's....all following the same direction. I usually find standing with a stick in hand and yelling " if you don't clear this mess up NOW I'll use this stick" or " if I see any toys on the floor I'll stamp on them so hard so they break" helps a bit ;)

I had around 6 last year, with IPL ( from another place) and I was told I'd need more as the hair is finer & usually lighter on the face, compared to say your underarms. I would say around 6 - 8 sessions( usually 6 weeks apart) but double check when you get your first session, they will be able to tell you roughly how many you'll need :)

I'm getting my upper lip and chin lasered also. I am going to K med spa on Jumeirah Road, as they had a cobone offer just recently. I've been to them before for my underarms, and they are good. I didn't find it painful, but I did use the numbing cream about half hour before the treatment. HTH

So is "Desperate in Dubai" available in the bookshops now? I tried at Borders & another one at MOE and neither of them had it in, they were waiting for it to be "approved".

Irooni, I would let him try boxing if you can find a class for his age. Or, tell him there are no boxing classes for his age but that he can do it when he's older and suggest an alternative where you can find classes that will take him, which he can do until he is old enough to do boxing. There was an excellent positive guide to not saying no to your children on here quite recently, by Anna-Panna, on the thread you started about children's rights and privileges. I would suggest using that tactic. He may really like the alternative and forget about boxing or he may continue to want to do it, in which case, mention poor old Muhammed Ali and many others whose lives were not improved because of their boxing prowess.. Of course, in between the wars and after WWII, boxing [b'>was[/b'> considered a way to improve yourself in the East End of London - a way for young lads who might have "gone bad" to have a sense of purpose in life and to fight their way out of the slums. edited by simpleasabc on 07/02/2012 That probably explains the amount of boxing clubs in East London then & why my son likes it so much lol I know my DS's boxing club wouldn't take children under 10. I used all the excuses like Mohd Ali, & Micheal Watson (?) who was paralysed after a big fight, but it didn't really matter. They look upto the Prince Nasims & the Amir Khans....He's still young yet, as simplesasabc said he may find an alternative and forget about it :)

But he loves BOXING!:\: If your son had such a passion, would let him continue and just be or stop it? I am very scared of boys and violence, I am always discouraging him. What do u think? Irooni, I know exactly what you mean! I tried the football which he didn't really enjoy, then Karate & he got to Orange belt, and decided he was bored of Karate as there wasn't enough contact. He wanted to do boxing, which I was dead set against ( mainly because I think its a rough sport & didn't want his cute little button nose broken). Anyway, he was so passionate and enthusiastic about boxing and was even chosen to represent his boxing club for the under 12's........then we moved here ....and we just can't find a boxing club....Thai boxing yes...but not boxing.....so that's it till we move back....at least I don't have to worry about his nose for now :D eta typo's edited by coco pops on 07/02/2012

If you can't find the owner, & you are def sure you don't want to look after it yourself...would you consider someone who has no experience with African Greys? Would you be willing to advise me on caring for one? Also, ( I don't want to get ahead of myself) can they stay outside ( in a cage) or is it best for them to stay indoors ( esp in the hotter months). Thanks

That is gross....I think it's the norm in a lot of cultures to spit....but inside?!!! Reminds me of when I was at uni, I used to live in an area where a lot of the population used to chew on tobacco leaves (?) and they used to leave these horrid yellowy orange spit stains everywhere....the local council had to put " no spitting" signs up in the end, because it was so unsightly! Sounds like that may be a good idea here too....lol

[b'>They're prob not allow for the same reason they won't let my children play in the kennels - I mean, my children love kennels, but NO, they won't let them in :D [/b'> I actually think dogs are cute, but not in playgrounds - these are designated areas for children to play, some people, as we've learnt in the past week, do not restrain their dogs appropriately and I wouldn't like to think these dogs are playing with my children. I also wouldn't like to see children on play equipment with dogs/cats jumping around them. That's totally separate from the poo thing. hahaha I'd pay to leave mine at the kennels ;) eta my children that is :D edited by coco pops on 07/02/2012

I had the Hoover Condensor dryer in the UK, and although it was good, it started making a rumbling noise after about a year ( in fact just after the warranty expired). I ended up replacing it with a Beko which IMO was much better. HTH

I was also interested in volunteering and contacted this organisation called Dubai Foundation for Women & Children. I never heard back from them. I did recently contact them again, but, the lady I had to speak to was away. I'll try again next week. IA Try them. You can google it for more info. HTH Thank you coco pops I have basically called them on and off all week with not a single answer so I am beyond frustrated and about to march upstairs and tell Dh he has to find a way to get me ministry backing or something to start my own shelter. How on earth can they not pick up the phone!?! While I love aspects of Dubai these sorts of things drive me mad. I have just found a site to Ewa'a which my mother in law mentioned to me, its in Abu Dhabi but it seems legitimate and I wouldn't mind the travel if it did some good. Have you ever heard of them? No I haven't. I'll google it later as I'm off for a bit of 'me' time. I really really wouldn't mind going either, ( as long as DH will help with school runs etc) as I feel there is a need for it here. I was beginning to think that there wasn't a need for volunteers.... So was I! I am going to see what comes of my phone calls and email to the Ewaa people. I can update if you like tell you what they come back with. My husband just got home and I asked him about starting something on my own and he said he would support me but that he had heard horror stories about another westerner who started something, government became angry, her husband lost his job....sheesh Yes please, I'll be very interested. Could it not be done with the govt on our side? ( Am I being Naive?) I'm very passionate about it too....especially where children are concerned....
