hello, thinking of putting my two in one bedroom (separate beds) and turning the second room into a play room of some sort but frankly dreading it as their sleeping routine is well established and I hate to break it. And they are not very keen on sharing other things, like toys for example. My fear is they will be up chattering away and not sleeping and one would wake the other and so on. They are 3 and 5 by the way. So if i may ask those of you who've done this and if and how it became a success. please share any tips you may have! Thanks :)

if you're not in a hurry the sharjah book festival held annually is a good place to look. I have no idea when it runs though, sorry.

Wow. The teacher was just highlighting the very sad but true reality that classical Arabic is not used as widely nowadays. But you seem to have missed the point, obviously.

Oh and just to add a bit of humor, a teacher once told me that a newly converted Muslim studied the classical Arabic and went to Egypt on a visit. Whilst there he went into a book store and started asking the sales man, an old guy, about books that he wanted to buy. He spoke in classical, and the man was looking at him as if he was from another planet! The old man then called his son from a back door and said 'please tell this man that the Friday sermon is only given on Fridays'! As that is the only time he ever hears classical Arabic being spoken! To the OP, sorry for hijacking!

Maroosh I think there is a bit of generalization there. Not ALL Arabs understand and speak classical and MSA Arabic. MG is perfectly right. I am a non Arab who learned classical Arabic for religious purposes and and was quite shocked to know none of my Arab friends know how to speak it; and understanding of it is at a bare minimum. Their reason? They grew up speaking colloquial Arabic and their parents never bothered teaching it to them. In fact, they say the very same thing MG said! People would laugh at you if you spoke MSA. Now I can't go on and claim ALL Arabs don't speak classical Arabic and their understanding is also very poor, can I? And just FYI, my friends come from all over the Arab world so I am not just talking about a specific demographic.

Yes that's what I used to do for mine. Hope this is not TMI but lay her on her side and insert it gently and hold the b*tt cheeks for a few seconds to make sure it stays in :) Do it while she is relaxed and not while she's throwing a fit as the chances of it staying in will be more :) I would avoid the things you fed her in the past 3 days until she develops better digestion to avoid a recurrence. She'll be fine don't worry!

Hi MS, I wouldn't take her to the doc just yet. Try pureed papaya. My concern is if she's been trying to pass it and it's been hurting, she might associate pain with passing poo and might start holding it in next time. I say this based on experience. So while trying to feed her fibre rich food, you may also want to try glycerine suppositories which you can cut in half and use since she is under one. At least this will help soften what's already there to come out and make it a less painful experience. And just FYI, carrots when cooked and bananas not fully ripe can be constipating to some people as does applesauce. It's advised to avoid BRAT diet while constipated (Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast). I hope she feels better soon.

Thank you all of you :) I just saw this now. DeserRose, you've given me the answer thank you so much. He has been to City Hospital before for some checks so I think I will go and ask there since they're similar to American Hospital. Thank you again, have a great day!

Thank you TB! I failed to mention that money is not an issue. My main concern is if I'll be able to get the service without having any medical history with the hospital. I'm assuming dialysis is not an easy procedure and the hospital might ask to run several tests before they do dialysis for him? In which case will I need to book an appointment beforehand and go do the tests before the actual day of his dialysis? I'm not sure really, I have no idea. If anyone knows, please! thanks again TB :)

Hi Dally, I saw Dr. Anna Harman at the City Hospital for something similar and she was superb. I really hope it turns out to be benign for you. If I may, please don't wait any longer as I have lost a sibling to this disease and one of the things that worked against her was 'waiting' until this and that were done. There is so much hope for cure when the disease is caught in its early stages as opposed to once it has progressed. I really hope it turns out to be nothing, as did mine!

I also have a degree in social science and later I took a few graduate statistics classes... it can be intimidating at first but I'm sure you'll do well. Buy a beginner's guide with a workbook and get familiar with the basics before classes start and you'll feel more comfortable. Thanks Seabee. I will do as you suggested and familiarize myself with the basics.

Mrs. O, this is just a suggestion, not accurate, but maybe he could try Al Baraha hospital in Al Baraha? It's near Dubai hospital. Alternatively, he can also try Dubai hospital. I don't remember which vaccine but I got one from them (al Baraha) when I had to go for Umrah and it was mandatory to have it done. All the best.

I was considering doing my MA in one of the fields that require taking quite a few courses in Statistics. However, I consider myself among the 'mathematically challenged' :) so, would being not so smart at math play against me? I hate being 'just average'. I did my BA in Social Sciences just for a little bit of context and wasnt required to do any math courses except for one Geometry and one Statistics courses. Both beginners level. any help highly appreciated!

Coffeebean, if you paste the link, highlight it and select the chain-like symbol to the right of U then it will shorten it to the word "link" itself. You can change the word "link" to something else. And thanks for the websites. Hey thanks! Let me try right now :) [url=http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes_menus/recipe_slideshows/back_to_school_lunch_for_kids'>link[/url'>

I don't think so. I am seeing moustache jewelry being worn by fashionable young Muslim women. Surely they would not be advertising Mo-vember??? Had to laugh at that :) maybe they're not aware, they think it's just a fad? who knows.

My *me* time is between 10pm and midnight. I'm possibly unusual, But I need to be absolutely ALONE, so me time is without hubby or child. We're nearing the end of close to 12 weeks of summer and while it has been the best summer to date in regards to daughter and I NOT wanting to murder each other from the get go, I still need my time. We have a system during the summer (that makes it sound structured but its not) where as he is in charge when he gets home from work. We have dinner, we play, we catch up but he is in charge of bedtime etc...I use that time to tidy up and get stuff ready for the next day. THEN, we have our time. Then he goes to bed and I have MY time. I would be evil without it. Whether I'm reading a book, watching a movie or just thinking while it's quiet...it's essential. He has his time in the early hours, training. Of course, during the summer I get to sleep in til 8, so this is possible. I'm dreading the start of school just because of early get ups. Weekends we take turns sleeping in, and we muck along so everyone gets to do what they want and need. Hubby may train for up to 10 hours, but will take lil miss to the movies or something so I get a couple of hours to myself. Once school is back, you do have time in the mornings, I just have to rigidly prioritise it...I have work that absorbs me, but try to balance that without becoming a hermit. I know I am lucky that THAT is my biggest problem. Enjoy reading your posts Aroha :) OP, raising kids is a shared work between hubs and I. I keep reminding him that going to work is being away from the chaos that is kids and thus counts as me time. He seems to agree :)

Why not take your dh's offer of a small allowance and demonstrate your fiscal responsibility? You were (previously) a self proclaimed spendthrift - show you are able to live within a self managed budget. I agree and suggest the same. A small amount is better than nothing at all. Show him you are capable of managing your finances with this amount by spending it wisely and see if that changes his opinion of the present you, not the previous spendthrift wife that he knew.

Hi Amy, Not sure if they are the same but I am taking chelated magnesium calcium 2:1 by Solgar. I saw a naturopath who prescribed it but Im pretty sure you could get it over the counter here. If it is what you are looking for, I bought it from the pharmacy at EHL Dubai Mall Clinic. edited by Coffeebean on 16/08/2013

Hi Pepito, if you know Bin Sougat Centre in Rashidiya, the Emirati man who sells traditional items carries girls' outfits. He sits right next to the elevator near Dome cafe. If you cant find what you are looking for there, look around as there are many other shops in the same mall.

Forget a bank account, why not buy some bonds? Or do a deal with the school and pay your tuition fees in advance for a discount? Or get your dh to set up a joint savings account? Bonds are a good idea Lola, I just needed easy access to the money everytime I needed it to pay the fees. Didnt know schools offered discount on advance payment, thanks!

Some of the thread seems to be missing but from what i can gather you only seem to have had an issue once you lodged a cash lump sum. If this is the case they are more concerned about money laundering than your nationality. I worked in a bank back home and this is one of the things we are told to watch out for all cash transactions over a certain amount require tellers to ask where the money came from. I always found this stupid and on many occasions was told 'its not like i would tell you if I had robbed it!' Transactions of higher amounts are automatically reported to the fraud department and investigated from there. In Ireland lodging 500euro notes will get you added to a fraud investigation as nothing over a 100euro note gets printed there and 500's are associated with drug dealing. Hi Manikkat. You have a point, but that is the West. Here the banks allow daily withdrawal limit of upto 10K Dirhams. In the US for example I know many banks only allow a maximum of 300dollars withdrawal a day so anything more than that is deemed suspicious activity.

Quinn thanks for deleting the posts. My husband is a different nationality, from one of the favored countries. They wrote a cheque in my name and told me I can only get the money transfered to another account. I asked for a cheque to be issued in my husband's name. They refused. They kept on saying I need to go and open another bank account for the money to be transfered there, mand I kept on saying no because I have no guarantee that this wont happen to me again at another bank and demanded my money in cash just the way I gave them. edited by Coffeebean on 13/08/2013

Banks are one area where I can understand restrictions due to global sanctions. But in most other cases nationality profiling is as bad as racial profiling as its based on the ridiculous notion that most people of a country have the same habits, follow the same occupation or commit the same crimes. It it this form of profiling that led in the past to stuff like passengers being given hotels during flight delays based on their passport or allowed or not allowed to use a phone at an information desk on the basis of which passport they hold. And it is this form of profiling that leads to comments like "Are you sure she is a doctor, I thought women from x are only good for being housemaids" Of course some of those who end up being favorably profiled may either not notice the negative profiling or indirectly support it as they benefit from it in a way And this is what I face everytime I seek a service in said institutions. Story of my life really.
