I bought a Silent Night memory foam pillow (like the Tempur ones) and have seen a dramatic improvement! Might be worth trying

I got mine from the airport last Saturday about 5pm, so they were definitely open then. It literally took 10 minutes if that. I was soooo impressed! Now why can't Emirates ID be as easy?!

If you are lucky you may find also a villa :) Not a lot on the market, but.... Good luck :) Try Phase 2 Cedre Villas. More empty than not!

Snap! I was expecting it to be delivered (as the first one was) but in the end I got a text saying it was to be picked up at Waqaa post office. Quite simple, once I found out where it was!

only one of you has to be baptized to get married at jebel ali - maybe they would sort this for you before the wedding? Do you have to produce a document proving you were baptised?

Thank you for the clarification i was getting anxious that i have been misinformed by them. It is so annoying this is the case. I have had real difficulty in contacting the churches and finding someone to marry us legally as none of us are christened. Hmmm I also emailed the church last week and you've just reminded me - I haven't heard back from them! I emailed a couple about three weeks ago and not one has responded to me so i also need to follow it up Sounds like we're in the same boat then!

Hi Bracey777, I called the British Embassy at the end of last week and they were adamant that marriage between Brit nationals still has to be conducted in one of the church. :(

FYI for those Brits looking to get married, but don't want a church wedding. I spoke to the British Embassy this morning and they have confirmed that in July 2010 the rules changed and Dubai now allows Christians who do not practice religion to marry in certain venues in Dubai - who have been granted marriage licenses. BE suggested reading the following link:- http://www.dubaiupdate.co.uk/downloads/factsheets10/Dubai%20Honeymoon%20and%20Wedding%20fact%20sheet.pdf HTH I'm very excited at this news! Thanks pollydxb :)

There are now a few hotels licenced to contract weddings, not just Jebel Ali Church. The Montgomerie is one place (very nice but outdoors) I also believe Jumeirah Beach Hotel is too. (lovely venue overlooking the burj al arab). However - not sure if this is only for non-muslims. Give the Montgomerie a call and ask to speak to there weddings manager. She is a lovely girl, very knowledgable! Wow Nels, that's good to hear. I got engaged recently and would much prefer to have the whole day in one venue. Thanks for the tip, I will definitely look into it. Is it a new change as I thought we had no choice but to get married in a church?

Yes, that rings a bell busybee2. I'm sure at 18 my license was only valid for a year. Hence I had to renew it again when I returned a few years later (then got the 10 year one)

I've got a feeling that hire car companies are a bit funny about hiring to under 25s (I vaguely remember my brother had problems until he was 25). I guess the best thing to do is call them up and just ask.

I got my UAE license on the basis of my UK one at 18 (many moons ago I might add!) I don't think the age has changed. As long as he has a valid full UK license and has turned 18 should be ok.

Although I must have been lucky and had no real 'banking' issues with the bank Izzy99 mentioned, they are terribly irritating. I was getting at least 2 calls a day for over a week from them trying to get me to sign up to this and that. Obviously they were trying to get more money out of me. It got so bad I told them that if they didn't stop calling me daily I would report them to the police for harassment. Guess what - they haven't called since!

I'd be interested in knowing more about this as well. I have a room full of kit (treadmill, multigym, the works!) and I'm still lacking the motivation to get in there and use it. I've heard of a guy who is 250 an hour. Do you think 200-250 is around the average price?

In my experience, they debited my CC first (with in 2 days of PP being delivered to Dussledorf), then there was a query, then the new passport was delivered back to me 3.5 weeks later. I didn't get any notification from DHL that the PP was back - it was just sitting on my office desk one morning when I arrived at work. I was just relieved to have it back!

Yes Ice Maiden, you can't do it here anymore. All UK passport applications/renewals have to be sent to Germany for processing

[i'>Who did you contact in Düsseldorf coffee_mate?[/i'> It was a lady called Martina Reiners, a Passport Examiner at the British Consulate in Dussledorf.

I was at The Wharf (Mina A Salaam) the other night (I think it was a Wednesday) and they were having 'pie and pint' night. Not that I had either, so can't comment on if they were any good!

I've been in touch with Dussledorf today as my UK passport renewal is currently in process. They said it should be dispatched later today. Just to give you an idea of how long turnaround time is currently taking, I sent if off 3.5 weeks ago with DHL. (and paid the extra for their fast delivery)

I just picked up a cheapy one (for running) in that massive sports shop in MCC. I wasn't looking specifically for swimming, but they seemed to have loads of different brands and prices. Might be worth a call. I can't remember the name of the shop though! Anyone help?

I'm in the process of this myself. My bank account was debited 188pounds earlier this week (I went for the extra pages and express delivery). Wish I'd popped home for a visit now and done it there! As you said, it's cheaper.
