Hi Just looking for a bit of advise as I am sure this is not unusual. We have finally found a maid we like and have offered her a job with us. She has been with her current family for 3 years. They have paid her less than half her cOntracted salary and have never let her go home. I have also found out through a friend that they have not paid her for the last 3 months. Her visa expired on 12 March so she is now on her 30 day notice. She has spoken to the family and they were happy for her to leave. We spoke to him and asked f he would release her and he was happy to. Yesterday he has now told us we have to give him 5000AED as an unofficial fee! He has said if we don't pay then he won't release her. He thinks we should pay him for him having bought her over and now he will need to find a new maid. We realize this is illegal and have no intention of paying him. Is there any way we can get the maids visa cancelled? Can he refuse to let her leave? My thoughts were to let him send her back to the Phillipines and then we will fly her back. Is there a time limit that she has to stay out of the UAE and could he ban her? I would rather pay for a flight so at least she would get to see her family than give this piece of work a dirham. I really don't want to walk away as I would like to help her if possible. Any thoughts anyone may have would be much appreciated. . Joms, If this lady really wants to get out of her situation now and work for you, here's a trick she can do. Listen very carefully. She can tell her current employer that she does not want to renew her visa and would like to go back home to be with her family. Her employer has to cancel her visa at Dubai Immigration (layman's term for DNRD) even if it has expired already. Once the visa has been cancelled, the employer has to put her on a plane. Take note that she has to be escorted at the Immigration counter at the airport by her sponsor. Arrange for her flight back to UAE after a week or so by bringing her on a 30 day tourist visa and work her maid's visa once she's here. Let me know if something is not clear with what I said above. Cole

Hi DubaiCat, your DS can go to Pre-K in American curriculum school come Sep 2013, he will be 3 years and 3 months then...or FS1 in British system. IB schools don't cater to this age group, but I maybe mistaken. You can check maybe around or nearby where you live...

They only take cash as far as I know. This is in Riqqa branch Post Office... maybe other branches have the card machine? Try phoning them if you already have the specific branch to go to. Maybe somewhere close to your residence or your work place.

I wanna add here an info about varicella vaccine for adults. I had my first dose of varicella vaccination at Mankhool Clinic (DHA). The reason why I decided to get the vaccination was because I became very worried since I didn't get CP when I was young and in the school I work at we have several cases of kids having chicken pox. The thought that I might get it now that I am almost 30 and be stuck at home for at least two weeks, just the thought of it was killing me. I have an online Patient ID with DHA, so it helped reduce the registration time. They gave me vaccination booklet, paid total of AED 270 ( AED100 for a GP assessment and AED 170 for the vaccination.) Due for my second dose in 5 weeks time. It was quick and easy.
