Really? I thought all countries made you send your old passport in when you renew. Nope. I get to keep my old one while the new one is under process and I can use it until I recieve my new one. (The embassy stamp cancel the old one at the time of receiving new passport).

There are some points to remember when buying from dubizzle .look for agency maintained cars. . E.g Honda maintained by Honda. Some owners maintain record and those cars are usually problems free. If you can afford, don't go for any car older than 2 or 3 years. Avoid dealers on dubizzle..there are loads of them..buy from owners direct. You can also get accident history of the car from dubai police website. Not sure if that is free service or paid. You can have the car checked from a workshop before doing a deal . There are loads in al quoz who can do this for you for a fee. If it looks like too much work.. you can go down the route of certified pre owned cars.

May be latitude restaurant at jumeirah beach hotel? They do have a mini kids area and buffet, suited to toddler/pre schooler age group. Outside seating is nice , inside is too crowded or at least it is crowded on dinners at weekends.

Try Dr Sirajudeen in Karama. 043345955 Looks a bit tatty from the outside , but inside the surgery is spotless. My child has been having orthodontic treatment there for 18 months. The prices are very reasonable. It's has all sorts of doctors and dentists. I hope you manage to find someone to help. Bumping up old thread to find your experience with this orthodontist? Was your child treated for a cross bite? I am looking for a good ortho for my DS. Thanks

I have a great orthodontist for my child. Dr Sirajeen. Opposite the Karama fish market. 04.3345955 I think he will work out being about 1/3 of the price of the original orthodontist i was referred to ! Yes, you dont have glossy magazines and coffee while you wait, but the treatment so far has been very good. Once inside the surgery its spotlessly clean and the orthodontist and his nurse are super efficient. Not many expats go there and it is not linked to any health insurances, but the prices are very reasonable. Good luck. Bumping up an old thread to enquire about your experience with this orthodontist? Is he still in dubai? Did your child got treated for a cross bite? My DS is developing a cross bite and I am on a lookout for an orthodontist. Thanks

I have seen them on online stores, but would like to see it before purchasing. I tries C4 MOE & the new emax store on SZR, no luck.. You should visit sharaf dg at times square center. I have used lifeline for outpatient visits .. it is an ok hospital ..nothing fancy but not bad. My friend was admitted last month for food poisoning. She recieved good medical care. Discharge procedure was really slow took more than half of the day and cleanliness felt a bit shabby to her as she is used to medcare but she had no complains about care. There was a recent thread about someone having a good ceasarian delivery experience at lifeline. May be you can search that for some reassurance. If you are still not sure ..also check rates for aster hospital and nmc speciality. They are on cheaper side as well but offers good care.

I have over the years accumulated lot of nice lingerie sets and unfortunately the bras are now a size too small. I've never tried the bra extension hooks that you can buy but wondered what you ladies do with bras you don't ever wear????? I usually gift unwanted clothes to my hairdresser or manicurist who always seem grateful, however I feel a bit weird with bra (I'd obviously keep the knickers) I don't want to offend anyone. Some of them have never been worn and they are too beautiful to throw away. My other thought was to give them away when travelling, but again it's the offending part that makes me dubious. I wish I knew 'then' to buy the larger size? How about asking your hairdresser/manicurist indirectly? Mention you have some lying around and if they know someone who could use them as they are quite new/unused? Indirect mention always makes it less awkward. If they really need it they can invent a friend..if they don't want it.. they won't feel awkward in saying a no. If they appreciate clothes they would be ok with bras also as they are much more expensive.

majority of hotels are facing a hard time due to low occupancy in what used to be a peak season only last year. Can u plzzz tell me y is it so??? I seriously have no cue whts going around.... Low fuel prices are not helping the economy in oil dependent gcc countries whereas China and Russia have their own internal problems to sort out.

I was told by the headteacher of the school my boss's kids go to, to not bother signing it as it's still only a draft at this stage. She also kind said that it's not exactly "essential" that parents sign it...? As per our school everyone needs to sign the contract to be officially registered with a school in dubai and furthermore khda is blocking access to its online services for a school until all parents are registered from that school. From this communication it does not sound optional. Our school is really pushing everyone to sign up ASAP.

Excellent advice from everyone. I should add they do rush d&c here as its covered by insurance. After my hospital stay my doctor waited for another week for my cervix to clear out naturally. If it hadn't probably I would have been advised for a d&c. If you are already bleeding definitely go for medical management first and your doctor should give it some time to clear out on its own. 5 weeks is very early.

I want to take a class at the Dubai Intl Art Centre in Jumeirah 1 on Mondays from 9:30-12:30, and to do so I need childcare for my 2-year-old from 9am-1pm. Are there any good drop-in nurseries or play centres nearby? Some of the nurseries I see around it are Rainbow Nursery, Fantasy Land Montessori, and Art Village - not sure if any of them allow drop-in? Any other options and any idea of the likely costs? Have you looked at mygym ? One of its branch is in jumeirah 1 al wasl road. They offer drop off flexibility and while kids are there they do quite nice things like gymnastics and such. Not the regular coloring and painting activities. If you go to regular nursery they will make you cough up registration fee (min. 1000 dhs) nd medical fee (around 500) even if you register for 1 day for 1 term.

I had a miscarriage at 7 weeks about which I found out only at 9 weeks after some spotting. That's when I rushed to a doctor, she did a scan and booked me for a d&c two days later but I never got to that as it happened naturally same day in evening and they admitted me over night in medcare hospital for observation and medicines. I hope you are ok. Just sharing my story to let you know it can happen naturally also or through d&c. I recieved good care in medcare hospital jumeirah. I hope someone else come forward to answer your question about d&c. It's a scary time but it will pass. Have strength and take care of yourself.

i have never validated my ticket in moe or souq madinat (always exit before the 4 hour and 2 hours respectively) but i would say it would be a good idea to validate the ticket in souq madinat on weekends as last weekend it took me over 15 mins to get to the exit barrier from my basement 2 parking slot.

A flatmate might be a feasible option for you. Someone from your work, whom you know well and also in same boat. It's not ideal situation but better than to be in debt which you might not be able to pay off with your current salary

It's getting too expensive as well, 495 dhs for the book. I might go with the app later on if we are going to Wild Wadi which is 100 dhs less. The dining outlets in the Family book looked quite poor overall. Aquaventure runs special residence rates regularly, so not really bothered about that one. YAS Waterworld often have discounts as well. And I couldn't see any of the popular brunches like Al Muna in it. Al muna have rebranded themselves as Hanaaya .. May be check with the new name.

Hi Ladyjo, my insurance covers all the reputable & big hospitals including Welcare & Al Zahra. I was also under the impression that I need not go for a package but the midwives at Welcare themselves told me to get one (they are aware that I have insurance). Anyway, I am due to call my insurance company help line today to sort these out including the cover for new born which I think will be on reimbursement basis till the baby's insurance card comes. Hi pujak.. just wondering what did you find out regarding costs at al Zahra? Are you still seeing Dr Yamini? I am thinking to shift to her. Would really like some feedback regarding her and al Zahra. Thanks

To clarify the A/C issue: Most apartment buildings in Dubai are what's termed "chiller free," meaning that the air conditioning is paid for by the building owner or apartment owner. If the latter, the owner pays for it via his maintenance fees. The reason for this is because there's one internal A/C system for the entire building and the a/c cannot be metered separately for each apartment. For chiller free buildings you pay a single DEWA bill that includes your 5% housing tax, electricity usage and water usage. But some areas of Dubai, particularly in the freehold areas on the south side of the city, are not "chiller free." They fall under a district cooling scheme where a centralised district cooling plant pumps a/c into the buildings and each apartment is metered separately. District cooling charges are based on a fixed sum annually (usually paid semi-annually or quarterly) plus your actual usage. So it can be quite expensive. Especially as on top of this you still need to pay your DEWA with the 5% housing tax, electricity and water. JBR in the Marina is district cooling, but the rest of the Marina is "chiller free," JLT is all district cooling except for Armada Towers. Anything built by Nakheel is going to be district cooling, and this includes the Palm Jumeira, Discovery Gardens, JVC. Motor City is also in a district cooling scheme. Business Bay is district cooling. The Greens/Views is "chiller free" except possibly for its newest building. TECOM is chiller free. Almost all the Marina (except JBR) is chiller free. Downtown is almost all chiller free except for one or two buildings. Barsha is chiller free. And practically everything north of Downtown is chiller free. It's well worth it to pay attention to the difference between chiller free and district cooling buildings as you will end up paying quite a bit more for a/c and I'm consistently surprised by the number of people who keep failing to realise this. Note: villas still pay for a/c one way or another, whether in district cooling or independent villas via electric consumption. excellent information. just to add.. we live in a Nakheel development and pay for district cooling monthly along with water, electricity and 5% housing tax. everything is in the same bill directly from DEWA.

I have not heard of any insurance doing direct billing with Latifa as its a government hospital. It would be most probably pay and claim basis as that's what I have read in past threads. Does your insurance cover nmc speciality qusais? I have had a good experience there and they have a NICU which has been established for at least 7 years now but I cannot comment how it is. The neonatologist who we saw for our baby's very high jaundice levels was very good and thorough so I can reckon the NICU must be good also. You can definitely have a look and decide if it works for you. I was with dr Babita. Cannot comment on their pricing now but 5 years ago they were cheaper than welcare.

Can't comment about the model of cars you listed but I would certainly recommend widening your search into used car market also. You'll find yourself being able to afford all the features you want in just a 2014 model of these and if there has been no major accident , a one year old car is as good as new here minus the fresh leather smell of course. Buying used cars are easier here then you might think and more chances of a good deal because of people leaving or upgrading frequently than elsewhere. Visit dubizzle to get an idea. We've bought brand new once and so have our friends and they don't fancy it doing it again because of so much depreciation in price of a brand new car as compared to a used one.
