I recently learned that we are supposed to take our babies to the dentist when the first tooth erupts or latest by their first birthday. I'm just wondering if anyone has taken their babies to see a dentist here? How was the experience? I can't imagine the baby sitting still long enough for the dentist to have a look. Also can anyone recommend a peadiatric dentist that has experience and is equipped to see a one year old. TiA. We take our kids to dr Sundeep (he's a peadiatric dentist) at rosary medical center in springs but now the clinic has moved to downtown area..across the road from dubai mall and it's now called mosaic medical center. He is nice and friendly..very good with kids but I always took my kids for first visit when they turned 2. So I cannot comment how it would be with a younger baby. I reckon it should be fine..kids sit in parents lap and the check up is very quick ..in between lots of talking. Hope it helps.

Thank you cowboy....do anyone here any experience with Dr luthra at medcare. This insurance covers this hospital actually I have good experience of medcare hospital in general and of all the past threads I have read about dr Luthra .. Complains were only about her cold outlook. As a doctor everyone agreed that she is competent and her diagnosis is good. Best of luck.

I've been there a couple of times. It is lovely. They make it clear you can stay and use the facilities of the spa (the best I've seen anywhere) for as long as you like before or after your treatment. Thank you for this. Hammam here we come :) :) Have anyone tried the Turkish Hammam treatment at zabeel saray? How was it? And what to expect ? Does it happen in a separate treatment room like a massage?(for solo treatment) Is it worth the price? (As price wise 40 min of scrub treatment is equivalent to a 60 min full body massage). I have used zabeel saray facilities before but no experience of hammam or massage there. Any feedback would be great. Thanks

The only tip I can think of is to buy a good navigation system. Roads are not uniquely named yet. Specially the interior roads. Also plan your juorney on Google maps before you leave home as they are the most accurate when it comes to the ever changing dubai roads.

FYI, there was a time when there was plenty of comfortable seating around the Mall of the Emirates for resting. It was taken out strategically to force people into the cafes and restaurants. They will not be coming back any time soon. Yes I remember those benches. Long time ago now and I also think they won't be coming back. Now whenever We go to moe with someone with knees trouble we take a foldable stool/chair with us. Not everyone can walk all the way to prayer room to get a bit of rest. However they still have plenty of benches for smoking outside the mall. That's a strange way of discouraging smoking.

Aster pharmacies are also selling wheel chairs starting from 150 onwards. Call them up to confirm the branch where they are selling these wheel chairs.

Yes you should be visiting a GP. Based on your family history he/she may do a range of tests and can refer to a related specialist.

Exactly Preethihappy, no one wants a tragedy! Bottom line is if people take their children to the water park they must be constantly under their supervision, the Lifeguards are not there to babysit. Can you imagine the uproar if they had gone in to help these children and someone else had drowned while they were doing so. I feel for these Lifeguards, damned if they do and damned if they don't. Yeah, I dont really want to see anyone fired either. I was just shocked that they were standing there watching too. I will leave it, wished I had found the parents and said something. Perhaps they are not allowed to. I know it doesn't make it right but if that is "company policy" ( Hate that word) then so be it Did the boys not have the inflatable floats with them? and as others have said where were the parents. Who would leave their child unattended at a waterpark I think the lifeguards at Atlantis are well trained and not aloud to interact if someone struggle a bit in the rapids for example, some do it for fun going against the stream. If they interact with minor things, they might miss a real accident. Completely agree. I have seen many unsupervised kids going against Rapids for fun or doing all sorts of tricks in wave pools paying no heed to lifeguard's whistles. It's the same story in all water parks here.

Thank you! I know which bus to take, but don't know how long I should have for checking in at the bus station. We are flying with Etihad. Oh ok. Last time we checked in our luggage at the bus station ( got a boarding card and all) in afternoon and then made it to bus station in evening literally 5 mins before bus departure time. If you plan to not check in at bus station ( they close it some hours before flight time ..can't remember how many) and would rather check in at airport.. 20 mins or so before bus departure time Should be enough That's great, I will change my Careem as I thought I would need more time. So I can go down with my luggage a few hours before? There are two options at the Al Manara etihad station.. Either you go 7 or so hours before the flight to bus station(see link for details ) ..check in at the counter..get a proper boarding pass and luggage tags....checked baggage becomes their responsibility ....later you just need to come with your hand carry before your bus time and proceed straight to passport control at airport. ...(we did this..as we had a lot of luggage and didn't want to go look for luggage taxis at bus time). http://www.etihad.com/en-us/before-you-fly/city-check-in/ Or You can arrive 20 or 30 mins before the bus departure time with all your luggage and board the bus ( there would be a guy checking tickets at the bus door) .. you'll be getting luggage loaded/unloaded on the bus in this case and would be checking it in, at airport as normal. Its pretty straight forward. Hope it helps.

Anyone that has used it for the airport and knows how long before departure I should be there? Have used it couple of times .. We buy ticket online and specify the bus station..it automatically gives us the time of the bus we need to take so that we can get to the airport a good 2 or 3 hours before the flight. We have never done it any other way. For an 11 something flight ...they recommend a 7pm bus. In February this year we used their etihad terminal at al Manara. Etihad bus leaves every 30 minutes I think. But you should call to confirm this frequency as it might have changed.

Anyone know how much a dental implant is at Dr Madhus? Has anyone had this procedure done at all? My hubby got started with his implant this week with doctor Madhu. One sitting done already for cleaning extraction and bone grafting (needed in his case but not compulsory for all implants). He paid around 1500 for first sitting. Everything would be complete in 8k to 9k max. I think it would be 9000 in our case due to bone grafting. We also had to get a panaramic dental X-ray from outside (not available at his clinic) ..which was 150 extra. But it sure is a long procedure .due to how the extraction went we would need to wait 4 months to get the implant and then some more to get the final crown fitted. Hope that helps.

If you have lots of good quality stuff ..why not check out Times Square market which happens once a month. You need to register and book a table. Sorry cannot remember on which Friday of each month it happens. Search for it . I am sure you would find some thread or a website.

Hey there, I am fully bilingual - English and Afrikaans. It's a hard language to learn But you can do it. I am currently teaching my daughter Afrikaans and she's also learning Spanish too. Anyway, we not in Dubai yet but when we are I would be more than happy to help you...will take you up on the offer of a coffee :) On a separate note, how to teach a second language to a child? My hubby and I are both bilingual but kids (7 and 4 years) can speak only English. They can understand the other language but unable/unwilling to speak and learn. What should I be doing or not doing ?

Imho, the following recipe is the best ive ever tasted. 5 verrry large plain croissants, torn into pieces, sprinkled with pistachio nuts and blanched chopped almonds, a small handful of raisins and placed into an ovenproof dish. In a pot heat 3 cups milk, 1 cup cream and 1 small tin sweetened condensed milk. When hot, add 1/3 cup rose water. Then pour over croissants. Put into a hot oven till golden on top. TO DIE FOR :) Most hotels do it this way. I personally cant stand raisins so I dont add it and I also do not add the rose water. It is definitely a delicious recipe. Hi Appletiser - haven't made this yet but would love to. Do you add anything else in place of rose water? I skipped the rose water , didn't have it. Still it turned out nice. It's for giving it a traditional fragrance but can be skipped if you don't want to.

The agent can assure you what ever he think will make you sign the contract. The sooner you sign contract the sooner he gets his commission. You could either have the intial cleaning included in the contract or find out how much it would all cost and contact the landlord and offer to have it done yourself in exchange of him knocking off the required amount from your first payment (and of course mentioning it in contract as well). The later would mean lot of work for you but you would be sure of the quality of work done. I have a friend who leased a villa and contract stipulates maintenance under 500 Dhs is tenants responsibility any thing costing above 500 Dhs is landlord's responsibility. May be you can go for something similar?

We've just moved from Kuwait to Dubai, with 2 small children. What exactly are you wanting to know? It's hotter than Dubai but less humid, renting property is probably half the price it is here (currently expats cannot own)... I could recommend a great nursery and school. I know of one major issue that new arrivals are having that you should be aware of - some are not able to get a drivers license. I know one couple that neither husband and wife are able to get one. Cabs are cheap and plentiful but (from experience, before I managed to get my license) difficult with kids and carseats. You could, of course, get a driver. Totally agree with the license issue. License for non working ladies is impossible and even for working people, male or female, its a very tedious process, due to the bribing culture going on from last few years. You need cash and the right connections to get it sorted. Traffic and road safety is a mess now as compared to few years ago. Taxis are cheap but unregulated and I would rather use a public bus than a taxi if traveling alone. You need help of Arabic speaking PRO to get most things sorted as majority of local population cannot speak English. If you are moving from a place like dubai to kuwait.. Lifestyle could look quite slow and boring and needs some time, adjusting to.

Sometimes when there is no damage( no repair needed or insurance claim needed) in a minor accident both parties can decide not to inform police as there is a 400 Dhs fee/fine for the guilty party. But never the less both parties should have stopped at some safe place to access damage. Unfortunately this hit and drive away does happen here. Unless someone gets hurt or complain, I have not seen any one getting jailed for it.

How about Renting an hotel apartment for some time and taking it from there. Some companies do provide some initial accommodation for few weeks or you can rent your own for few weeks while you finalize the area and lease. 12 month lease is a norm here in dubai. Better to see for yourself and decide. Each place has pros and cons.

Morning after pills are not available in gulf countries as far as I know. You can try bringing them from your home country. You should be able to buy normal contraceptive pills in dubai over the counter, without any problem.

Hello Ladies, I am due Oct. 3rd, but i have also been told Sep 29th (is this normal)? Clearly, it's my first baby-- I am a little anxious and overwhelmed. It has taken me 3 doctors and now finally settled and happy with the 4th doctor at the American Hospital (Dr. Raj). I wish I would have read up on Dr. Yamini's feedback at Al Zahra (would have been closer for me as I live in Jebel Ali). So, are you ladies attending the coffee mornings? When is the next one (has there been a change of schedule cuz of ramadan)? Well, would love to meet some of you and hear back. I have just stopped working after 15 years of WORK!! Kinda going krazeee :) Thanks for listening/reading :) The due date calculated based on your LMP is the one which doctor follows for everything (specially how long they can wait for an over due baby) . It is normal to get a different due date based on a scan done by radiologist but in my case it has never made any difference. So I always focus on the original due date. No clue about coffee morning schedule but since Ramadan is ending in 2 or 3 more days. Things should be back to normal after eid. Hope that helps.

Yuck. hi...can you please tell me the model number of your lg purifier? i need one without humidifier cause our apartment already have humidity issues.thanks

Unless under warranty we go to al khaleej center ( near burjuman center) for our laptop and ipad issues. There are many shops inside the center fixing laptops.. we usually go with whoever is ready to fix it on the spot. Don't forget to bargain to get a good price.

Mall of emirates would be most convenient for you as it's quite nearby Novotel. There would be food , play area , library ( on level 2 .. From 12 to 4pm) and shopping all in one place. There are other play areas in barsha but you would probably need a taxi for those. Parks are quite hot at the moment otherwise there is barsha pond park. There is metro station linked from inside of mall of emirates, so if you get bored hop on and get off at another mall. With eid coming next weekend there would be lot of activities inside the malls. Unfortunately in summers months all you could do is mall hopping as it gets quite hot.

Hello :) I am consulting with Dr.Yamini Dhar. So far my experience with her has been wonderful. No complaints as such as she patiently hears out all our woes and worries. I have not faced any major delays so far but around 15-20 minutes of waiting time during the appointments. I recently went on a tour of the maternity ward and I was really satisfied with the knowledge of the midwife who handled the tour and answered all the queries very patiently. I would recommend it to expectant moms especially first timers like me as it has helped put my mind at ease. The overall experience has been good with the friendly nurses and lab technicians, admin & billing (a bit slow). I am a bit disappointed with the Pharmacy at the hospital as I have had to buy my medicines outside as they have been out of stock couple of times. I had to move from The City Hospital in Oud Metha where I was initially going for the first 3 months as the traffic towards Oud Metha was terrible from Dubai and Barsha is much convenient for us.Barely 15 minutes from home! Hope this helps :) Thanks you for your detailed reply. That's exactly what I wanted to know. As DH was recommending city hospital but I was not sure of the traffic issues. Wish you an easy delivery.

" I remember my dad used to encourage us by sticking up a Rewards Chart with separate columns for Fasting, Good Behaviour, Prayers and Quran and used gold star stickers for everything we were able to complete. There was also an AED 300 jumbo cash prize at Eid for whoever did the best and this created a lot of healthy competition among all 4 siblings. " That's a great idea. Would try that with my kids. Thanks.

I will not get into the parenting part of it but children should be practicing fasting from a young age so that when they reach puberty it's not a new thing for them which they have to do and for such long hours right away. My DS is 7 and he was quite keen on trying it out this year ..school also talked about it and his friends were doing it... So we let him try mini fasts ..from 8 to 12 or 8 to 2. Depending on how many ours he wanted to try it...so right now it's all practice( for which he get a lot of praise). Invite children to join for Iftar meal at the table so it becomes a ritual. Encourage mini fasts...slowly extend the hours. Talk about why we are fasting so they get the meaning and spirit of Ramadan. I also heard a very good discussion on dubai eye 103.8 "the word" at the start of Ramadan... It was all about parents and how they can encourage and introduce fasting to kids... You should listen to it to get tips for how to do it gently. It's all about educating them, encouraging them, showing them how to do it and then a lot of praise. The sooner you start the easier it would be when they reach puberty.

How is decriminalizing of issuing of bounced cheques going to help anyone? If someone is in jail for bouncing a cheque they can't work and earn money to pay back their debt. And what happens if he take the next flight out with my money? Like it frequently happens in dubai.

Maybe someone could give me advise. Yesterday my HR called me in and told me due the staff shortening in my company they won't need my services any more. My notice period expires exactly 4 days before completing my one year. Now I can see what I am entiteled to if I complete one year but what are my rights if my contract ends before one year? Or is that a loophole so they get away with no obligations towards me? Every Sunday on dubai eye 103.8 they do legal q&a with a lawyer from 1 to 2 pm. They start receiving questions from listeners from 12 noon. May be send in your question there for a professional advice. Check their website for details

In an ideal world a child would have all the time to catch up on speech but not in Dubai. By three if he is not chirping away on assessment day he won't be in any school. We had speech issues with our first born (we are bilingual) and on his assessment day at jebel ali primary (when he only just turned three) he was turned down and the lady told us on our face that she cannot understand anything and he should be taken to a speech therapist. ( talking of unwanted free advice). Needless to say his speech did come in next 8 months but the stress we went through with all the pressure from all directions, wouldn't wish that for anyone.
