Thanks a lot - do you know whether they will also 'exchange' the coins? yes they take coins and give notes. I did that longtime ago.

Hello ladies! I am due on October 2nd. Congratulations to all of us! :) Our first baby and I am with Al Zahra Dubai. Has anyone signed up for cord blood bank? I will be registering with LifeCell based in India. Any suggestions/recommendations/anyone signing up with me for some added discount on their charges? x Congrats. Who are you seeing at Zahra? How is the experience so far regarding appointments , wait time, Nurses, billing , radiology and lab? I am seeing a doctor at a clinic who delivers at Zahra but I would rather like to see someone at hospital direct .Your feedback would be great. Thanks.

I strongly recommend Same Day Dental Implants. Dr. Costa is great. I did a tooth last Christmas with him and was very happy with all. And yup, Same Day means the whole procedure is done on a single day. Yes that's very interesting. My DH is going to get an implant done and he is being informed about the usual 3 to 6 months time span for the whole procedure. Never heard of same day implants??

Thank u for all the replies I called AtoZ company ... Any reviews abt this company? They recommended some spray treatment ... This is the first time I m facing this kind of problem... So confused? If you have decided to go the pest control route.. I would recommend truly nolen ... locally known as kendah pest control ( branch of an American company). We have used them in past for general pest control and it was quite effective. Staff was professional as well. Never had bed bugs treatment done but better ask them how extensive the spraying would be.

Today is last day of school for my kids and I have no clue why it was dragged all the way until 30th. Only reason I can think of is that may be they need to keep school open for a fixed number of days each school year by khda or something. choiefat closed around 25 I think.

I'm seriously considering asking the guy at Carrefour to bring his little wagon over to my place and do my floors!!! With the vast areas of floor space in villas/apartments I often wonder why someone hasn't come up with something amazing! Tiny vacuum heads and then we swish around these mops that barely touch the floor and I'm over it! Anyone else fee like this or know of any good vacuum/mop combos? Thanks They have come up with something amazing, they are called maids! lol Yeah but apart from expenses they also come with boyfriends.

hi, it would be best if you could bring some report or something documenting this diagnosed speech delay so that you are not made to wait here, for him to turn 3, before any therapy is started. there is always a wait list for therapy...so you can start putting his name in Rashid pediatric therapy center( it's closed for summer and would reopen in september) and kids first medical center. there are others also but i dont have any experience of them. do bear in mind...speech therapy is not covered by insurance over here and could be quite expensive and varies from center to center. in Rashid an hour long therapy session would cost you 400 dhs. reports and assessments are charged separately. Hope you find a good therapist for your kid.

in dubai...the bazaar at times square center is an option but i dont remember hearing 50dhs as the booking fee for a table (heard about it on the radio) and since its an organized event you have to register for it , filling up an online form and all. also, near eid , in the last few days of ramadan an expo usually starts in dubai world trade center with eid related stuff on display and sale. there is also an eid exhibition going on at sharjah expo center which goes throughout ramadan and eid. people sell bangles and other kind of eid related stuff there. but i dont know about the booking process. google around for these. may be you can find something.

Visit DHA website. Some municipality clinics and pharmacies accept medicines for safe disposal ( if expired) or donate them to needy people ( if in good condition). I read an article in khaleej times few months back regarding the same and how it is harmful for environment if we dump medicines in drains or garbage. Check article below for info. http://www.khaleejtimes.com/mobile/inside.asp?xfile=/data/nationgeneral/2015/April/nationgeneral_April196.xml&section=nationgeneral

Unripe papaya, pineapple, raw food like sushi and other such foods, rare meats, liver, soft cheeses, raw eggs (egg yolk should be well done and not runny for fried etc), fruits and veg for salad should be washed very well ( avoid salads in restaurant when not sure of that) , unpasteurized fruit juices and foods with additives and colorings and artificial sweeteners. Check websites like baby center. Com or Whattoexpect.com for information about everything related to pregnancy.

If you have already visited the main branches of big pharmacies and insisted that they check their warehouse stock without any luck then you should get in touch with your doc asap to get an alternate medicine prescribed. Cause medicines do go out of stock here some time (due to manufacturer or supplier issues) and they just disappear from everywhere . Was in the same boat few months back for a specialized antibiotic.

Some small elecronic items are dual voltage.. laptop, mobile chargers and nebulizer. Check the voltage of each appliance.. if it says 110 to 240.. it would work both here and is US ( where voltage is 110) ..if it states 240 only, then you would be better off selling them off here as a step down transformer is an ugly item to keep any where. For Xbox .. you would need to purchase the power supply from Microsoft support site specifically made for US voltage or a transformer and plug it into your existing system. We had to do the same for Xbox we bought in america and brought here. ( Power supply smoked the first time we plugged in without checking the voltage :biggrin:l )

Good evening, It has been recommended for my son to have FESS sinus surgery to relieve chronic sinusitis. I would really like a second opinion on this diagnosis. I've tried booking Dr. Mahmoud Bahgat but he is on leave until June 5th. Anyone had a similar surgery done here in UAE who would like to share their experience? Thank you. Sorry to hear about it. My DH has also been recommended sinus surgery by Dr Marc mueller but it would be using balloon catheter, so it would be balloon sinuplasty. the end result would be pretty much like FESS, but may be less surgical? I would really recommend you try Dr Bhagat for second opinion. My friend highly recommends him and followed up with him for a year for her son's ear tube. He exhausted all other treatments before doing the surgery. You can also check with Dr marc for a second opinion. Bes to luck.

My kids are at Horizon International (formerly star international) and our school have a lovely after school care club for foundation and primary kids. You pay extra and kids stay there till 4. Foundaiton kids are allowed to take part in after school activities also although the rule about taking the bus is same. Why not suggest something similar to management of your school or change school..if that's an option?

On most threads you will find people find him to be good. I however thought he recommended unnecessary procedures and things that create more expenses. For instance for things that can be resolved with lifestyle changes he would recommend surgery or allergy tests for. Thats just my opinion. Thanks for your review. Dr marc also recommended a long list of procedures to my DH. So I am also skeptical about them... how many of them are actually needed. Would love to know if someone went through with the balloon sinuplasty and it went well and was long lasting?

For my first born I was not covered by insurance so we took a package (useful only when you start early).. for the second one I delivered at the same hospital but this time I was covered so a package was not even mentioned by the hospital. Everything was covered apart from some tests for the new born.

An adenoidectomy as well as Balloon sinus dilation, to say that we are terrified is putting it mildly but what we need is information and or experiences with Dr Marc Mueller as he will be performing the surgeries. Thank you Hi zinger, I see that it's an old post but i am wondering if you did go ahead with the balloon sinuplasty with dr Marc mueller for your son? How was the experience and how long lasting was the relief from the procedure? My DH has been recommended the same procedure by dr Marc and it would be great to have your feedback. Thanks

it should not be a problem. i had to get a micro sim for my old number when i switched to a newer phone with a micro sim. i am with etisalat but the procedure should be same. i called up etisalat to find out which service center near my home can do this for me and what are the timings. then you just need to go there with your original passport to get a new sim for your old number. in my case, it was issued , then and there.

just to inform......you CANNOT get a police clearance certificate at all police stations in dubai. this service is only available in somewhat bigger police stations like Barsha head quarter etc. I was turned away from the police station near Garden center exit 42, on the basis that i need to go to a bigger police station like Barsha . I went to barsha police station on al khail road and after some waiting in queue was informed that if i need police clearance for use within uae then i can get it from barsha station..but if i need it for use outside uae..like e.g. immigration then i can only get it from CID department inside their main head quarter near Al mulla plaza. hopefully this information would help save unnecessary trips as i was not able to find it online anywhere and ended up hopping stations and regarding timings..i was asked to come between 8 and 2:30 ...from sunday to thursday only. hope that helps.

I recently got mine done. You need to go to their website and fill in the equivalency form. Then go to Immigration and get a print out of your first entry stamp into the UAE. You will also need to get a Police Clearance Certificate which you can get at any police station. Once you have all of the forms you go to MOHESR in Abu Dhabi and give them your papers. Maybe better to call them before going to verify all documents needed. You will receive a registration form and then you can check on the site if it has been approved. Good luck!! just to inform......you CANNOT get a police clearance certificate at all police stations in dubai. this service is only available in somewhat bigger police stations like Barsha head quarter etc. I was turned away from the police station near Garden center exit 42, on the basis that i need to go to a bigger police station like Barsha . 2 bed Springs villas are quite small and don't have maid rooms ...Springs is a very large community and there are an awful lot of 2-bed villas. Springs was also the top performing area in terms of sales price increase last year so perhaps owners are selling as their required return has been met. edited by ChilliChai on 27/01/2014 I agree... i have a friend thinking to sell for the very same reason.

I discussed this with a friend who left dubai three years ago but still have a property (and a mortgage) in dubai. he left without closing his existing bank acount and is still able to use it from another country to pay the monthly installments. The bank does remind him to update his visa information but have no idea that he is actually not in dubai anymore. i guess the bank is happy as long as the funds keep moving around in the account and does not bother to shut down account just on the basis of an outdated visa information. cant remember the name of the bank.

there are many immigration agencies in dubai ..willing to sort out PR to various countries for huge amount of money. one of my friends have tried "Premiers" (office in meena bazaar dubai). the best way to go about it (if you dont want to do it by yourself)..is to find the name of registered agent/agencies at australian immigration site and then go with which ever gives you a reasonable package. Do keep in mind agents are expensive and using their services do not guarantee a PR. do check out www.expatforum.com for your immigration queries. hope it helps.

Can anyone suggest a school where I stand a chance of getting my son into FS2 in Sept 2015? All the schools I have looked at say I need to put him in FS1 this year to get a place as it is rare to get a place come available in FS2! But I really want to keep him in nursery for FS1 as he is an end of July baby and I don't think he is ready for big school as he is not talking much yet and no where near ready for potty training. Am I really going to struggle to find him a place next year? I am on the wait list for JAPS but have been told I am so far down the list it is very unlikely. I have assessments for DBS and VIctory Heights for FS1 this year and am on the waitlist at Horizon for FS2 but don't like my chances with any of these options! I am assuming you are looking for a space for your first child. unfortunately, what you heard is true...it is very hard to get space in FS2,in the school of your choice, if you miss your chance for FS1. I was in same situation for my first born 3 years back. The waitlist in horizon for FS2 is a long one and they never tell you if you have a chance or no. but i have heard that they are expanding their foundation stage and have spaces this year. Also SAFA school is opening a new campus ..so that could work/ If you think your child is not ready yet...you can always delay starting school..thats what my friend did with her end of august baby..she started him in FS1 a year later..(so he was turning 4 in sept instead of 3). or you can keep him in nursery AND keep him on waitlist for FS1 in the schools of your choice. spaces do become available during the first term or later. (That's how my first born got into school in FS1).....your child might be more ready for a big school by then.. or you could try for FS2 directly in the schools of your choice (spaces do become available but limited in comparison of FS1) but if that does not work out there is always an option of trying newer schools or moving to a second-choice school.(if you are ok with that) getting into a school is so stressful in dubai. wish you luck with that.

I don't know if you've already moved, but my suggestion is to stay in Ahmadi. KOC provides accommodation for its employees - usually, villas with gardens for families - in the Ahmadi area. The KOC area is family friendly, very close knit, with a couple of churches, a huge park and a club for KOC employees. Very quiet, very residential, very green and so very different from the rest of Kuwait. Last I heard, easy to get booze & bacon - US Base nearby FTW - also, so some great house parties. Ahmadi also makes it close to Wafrah farms, Khiran resorts and chalets plus miles of empty beaches that are so much more cleaner and better than the ones closer to the main areas. The English School in Fahaheel is one of the better schools in Kuwait. It started as a community school so has managed to keep up those standards. No kids of my own, but parents of kids who go there seem to have very high opinions. For grocery and shopping needs, there is Fahaheel, which is like 10 minutes away. I think it has a Lulu supermarket? . There is a Sultan Center ( for western goods) in Al Kout Mall ( the mall has the usual stores found everywhere in Kuwait). Lots of restaurants and independent shops in Fahaheel, Mangaf and Fintas. Don't be afraid to try the small restaurants. Most have good food, at very reasonable prices. I only know of 1 hotel in the area - the Mansher (?) Rotana? No alcohol, but couple of nice fine dining restaurants. Otherwise you're best bet is the newly renovated Messilah beach complex towards the city. Great hotel with wonderful beach , and facilities, plus they have annual memberships for the family for beach, gym, etc access If you want more of a city life, Salwa would be better. Lots of expats, loads of restaurants, and shopping at your doorstep. Not as much expat bonding as Ahmadi. Traffic is a bit crazy, and for your husband and kids, it will be a 30 -40 minute drive each way to work and school ( 2 big highways, with loads of cameras and some crazy ass drivers). Either way, Kuwait can be fantastic for family life. Not many things to do or see so plenty of time to focus on family and friends. Just make sure to be careful around Kuwaitis. Hope this helps. Best of luck very good post. i would also suggest Ahmadi specially if you are working for KOC. They give these huge villas to their senior employees (there might be a waitlist). very nice area for families. <em>edited by comp99 on 16/01/2014</em>

I pretty much grew up in kuwait and stayed there till i got married and move out to UAE. Kuwait is a family place. You would definitely have more time for family and life is slow paced. If you manage to have a circle of friends, there are many options for family outings but most are restricted to indoors only due to extreme and long summer of kuwait. As a female, i found life very restricted there unless you are working full time. A stay at home mom is not able to get a license easily unless she is a local or with contacts. So you are pretty much stuck at home until your husband gets home at evening. As far as dressing is concerned you would have to dress pretty much the same way as you did in Bahrain and also expect a bit of staring depending on which area you live in. Salmiya, kuwait city and all those business areas are much more modern than fahaheel and mangaf etc. For me worst part of kuwait was their locals.. they have this 'i am the boss' and demeaning attitude towards most, if not all, expats. does not make things fun. Best advice, steer clear of kuwaitis, do not expect to be treated equally and fairly and stick with your own ppl ..you would be just fine.

Hi, I have visited kids palace for my older son. The facility is nice, you can call it purpose built. That was some time back. Now I tried them again this time time but felt its too crowded. Loads and loads of kids and classes. Not on my list anymore.
