I've just changed to Dr Anni at 35 weeks pregnant as she came so highly recommended to me by my hypnobirthing instructor and midwives at Al Zahra. She's very pro natural birth which was what sold me on her. Have only had a few appointments so far but I like her, she's very laid back and reassuring x

Hi My husband and I have lived in an apartment since we moved to Dubai but are considering moving to a 3 bed villa in Jumeirah park and trying to do our sums. How much would an average monthly dewa bill be both summer and winter? Any help much appreciated. Thanks

I've found Dubai pretty rubbish for nice maternity clothes. I ordered shorts from topshop and asos on line which are great. Particularly asos had heaps of stuff. Apart from that I've just been getting dresses in a bigger size from Zara or Mango. X

Hi girls, Not been on here for ages, it's great to see a Feb due dates thread. I'm due on the 27th of Feb with my first baby, very excited but nervous too. Would be lovely to make some new mummy friends as I don't have any friends out here with kids, although I'm still currently working so none of the meet ups really suit at the moment. Is anyone else having trouble sleeping? I'm really struggling at the moment despite being tired all day at work!! X

Oh sandgrounder that sounds great I'm up for pregnancy exercise classes but my sister arrives at midnight tonight so don't think tomorrow is realistic for me. Evening classes work for me, have you got a timetable. Happy to meet at any of the malls for a coffee or something at weekend or evenings? X

Aaww ladies sounds fab. I had a look at the meet ups but they're all during the week when I'm at work, couldn't see any for the weekends! My friend is always going on Tinder dates, I feel like this is my mum to be equivalent lol. Where do you girls live? Xx edited by Cosmogirl on 07/08/2014

So today was my first proper day in the new job and I managed to bite the bullet and tell my new boss my news. He was fine and said congrats and appreciated me letting him know. You can never really tell though he was probs raging inside. Anyway at least it's done and I can stop worrying about it xxx

Thanks for all the advice ladies. I've decided to tell him on my first day and praying he's ok about it. Still waiting on my pre visa or whatever it is at the moment so hopefully start tomorrow or wed. He seems like a really nice guy so I'm hoping he'll be ok. Just hoping everything goes smoothly in this pregnancy and I don't feel so ill that I'm rubbish at my job. Previous pregnancies I've been so tired I've wanted to crawl under my desk and snooze by lunchtime and felt so sick. Anyway will let you all know how it goes xxx

Thank you for the replies. Oh dear I feel so worried now!! How bad is it going into a new job on the first day and saying you're pregnant?!! Do you think they'll just tell me not to bother? When should I say before or after the medical? I'm literally only 4 weeks gone. x

Thank you so much for your reply. I think you're right and as much as it's convenient so stay with same doctor there were a few things that were handled badly last time, ie telling me my pregnancy wasn't viable at 5 weeks then at 6 weeks detecting a heartbeat and being like oops I got it wrong! Ok so is your Dr based at the clinic at City hospital then? I do drive so it's not so bad just so handy having the medical centre that I can walk to at the mall. Do I just make an appointment directly with them? I'm only just over 4 weeks but think I should prob go see someone soon because of my miscarriage. Xxx

Well that was my next question, how long before trying again? I'm booked for the D&C on Wed, should we try again straight away or wait till I have a proper period first? Xxx

Thanks for all your lovely replies it means a lot. I'm just back from American hospital, she done a scan and confirmed no heartbeat. We've decided to go down the route of D&C. I am still experiencing symptoms ie I puked at work this morning plus the natural route could take weeks as I've not had any bleeding recently or anything. We're both devastated but think this is the best decision for us this time. Only thing is she said it can take 3 days to get the insurance approval for the procedure, that seems like a long time?! Xxx

Thanks Quinn, I really appreciate your help. I had a trawl through some older threads on here and seen a recommendation for Dr Mia Branch at American so have managed to get an appointment with her for tomorrow. I know she can't make the heart start beating agin but I would rather go and see a dr who filled me with confidence xxx

Thanks ladies, I am trying to stay calm as nothing I can do but wait and see. I've been trawling the Internet and so many examples of it going either way. Only thing with me as well though is that I have an elongated sac which the doc says is abnormal so that's worrying me too. She also said for my hcg levels being 16,000 she should have been able to see something. Roll on Tuesday xxx edited by Cosmogirl on 24/05/2013

Well ladies do you know I'm not actually too sure myself now, I went for an early scan roughly 5 and a half weeks because I'd been having some brown spotting and she told me there's no baby and my sac is elongated. She said there's defs no baby and prob for the best as not formed properly. I got blood tests taken and hcg levels had risen quite a bit from 16,000 to 23,700 in just under 48 hours so now she says maybe there's a small chance it'll be ok and have to go back for another scan next week. I was distraught after the scan but now I don't know what to think. I'm trying to stay positive but don't know whether I'm setting myself up for a fall again. Has anyone else experienced this at an early scan then it's been ok? I've still been feeling really tired and sick but have also still been having the brown spotting. It's been a hard week xxx

Hi Emily that's great news congratulations!!! I'm only a few weeks behind you then. Got my scan on the 26th of May and think I'll be 7 weeks then. How have you been feeling? I've been pretty tired in the evenings and still getting some tummy cramps but generally ok. It's all so exciting, can't wait for my scan. Xxx

Ooohhh Littlelou you're getting me all excited here!! Can't wait for the scan!! I'm mildly scared there's going to be 2 in there as history of twins in both mine and husbands family and when I done my test it was a day or 2 before period was due in the evening and came up instantly with a really strong dark line. I've been feeling ok, pretty tired at night and a few waves of nauseousness but generally ok. Are you pregnant too or has your little one arrived now? Had my appointment yesterday, doc was lovely and done a blood test to determine the hcg levels to see how far along I am. She also booked me in for a scan in 16 days time. Woo hoo not long to wait!!! Well my friend told me she used one of the digital tests that tell you how many weeks when she fell pregnant last year (she also lives in Dubai) but don't want to ask her where she got it from as not telling her the news for a while yet. Anyone else seen them anywhere? I feel like I want to keep testing just to make sure I'm still pregnant lol xxx edited by Cosmogirl on 10/05/2013

Thanks ladies. Yeah I've been taking Pregnacare still we started trying so should I just continue on this? Or is there anything additional I should take? Still so shocked and doesn't feel real. Really want to get one of those digital tests that say how many weeks you are but they didn't have them in any shops near me. Anyone seen them anywhere? Xxx

I'm trying for a baby just now so trying to cut back but I just feel like all my friends will guess straight away if I do fall pregnant, especially over Christmas and New Year. I gave up booze when trying to lose weight for my wedding so you could say you're on a diet/detox and really trying to lose weight but if you're super skinny then maybe not so believable. Other than that maybe try loads of work commitments/over time so you can't afford to be hungover or play up that you've had a bad ear infection or something and say you're on antibiotics. All else fails just avoid them lol. Congratulations though, great news! X

Try stay positive and not to put any stress on yourself as that will make things worse. 3 months really isn't a long time. My husband has been trying to soften the blow for me already as he knows what I'm like. I'm so impatient though I just want to know if and when it's going to happen. Got quite a few pregnant friends just now, if they can do it surely we can too?! Back2Blonde/Pookie are you taking any vitamins? I've been taking Pregnacare and Omega supplements, bit clueless as to whether those are enough.

Oh I'm sorry to hear the dreaded period arrived! Defs a long shot to fall pregnant first time, especially if you've been on the pill for a while. That's what I'm telling myself anyway in the hope of not getting too upset if it doesn't happen this month. Loving all the trying though :)

Pookie I'm in the same place as you right now, trying to conceive and counting down the days until my period should arrive and hopefully doesn't. It's our first month trying and i know it can take a while but think I'll be pretty upset if my period arrives. I've noticed I've been needing to pee a lot more but I'm thinking its probably psychological. Good luck, keep us posted x

Thanks for all the replies. I've had a little look on the nhs website and it seems like what was mentioned below applies.....can give birth for free on nhs if I've been out the country for less than 5 years and lived there for 10 years consecutive to that. I'm going back to the uk at Christmas so will make an appointment with my GP then and see what the situation is. I'm not even pregnant yet so i may feel differently if and when (fingers crossed) i fall pregnant. Will have another look at all the vitamins, theres so many!!

Thanks for the replies. Yes I am still registered with a GP in the UK and I have been to see them when I've been back home a few times, ironically it's usually been for my pill lol!! I just have a bigger support network at home and feel like I'd be a bit more confident in a British hospital. Would really want my mum, dad and siblings around. Was thinking I could fly back as late as I'm allowed to fly then husband flies back near my due date and fingers crossed that works out. I do realise that could be difficult though. Yeah both my husband and I were born in the UK, hadn't started thinking about the grand kids yet lol!! How do I go about finding an OB here? I've been to Dubai Mall Medical Practice a few times as I live near by, I'm guessing they have there? Has anyone else been there? Feel so clueless about all this.
