Thank you!! Ok so from that, if you were staying at the Amwaj Rotana end of JBR and wanted to go along SkyDive Dubai direction, the tram wouldn't be an option. Thank you! xx

Debliz I don't think your UK one would be valid either, as you don't live there. SD, I don't think your friend should take the chance with this one.

So at the time of your last visa renewal, you signed a new labour contract with a fixed end date? Then yes, I believe you would have some penalty to pay or lose out financially - what do the exact terms in your contract say regarding early termination?

Firstly, please define what you mean by contract? Are you on a fixed term contract of say 2 years which finishes then, or by contract do you mean your visa, and you are actually on an open ended contract? There are two types of contract filed, and the answer depends which you are on. :)

Also just a tip, if you are reporting a plate, make sure you get the make/model of the car as well as the letter at the start of the number I called the other day to report two drivers who I thought had crashed in front of me and stopped, or had a burst tyre or something. But no, they had decided to have a fight (by car) so were doing that whole thing of driving, stopping in front of each other, swerving to block the other one across multiple lanes, etc. This was at 7.20 am on a major high speed highway during school/rush hour traffic! (No idea of nationalities by the way!). Anyway, the man on the phone was very patient with me but as he looked up each number as I didn't have the make/model/Letter - he was saying, was it a Lexus? me: uhhhhhh, was it a Mitsubishi? me: uhhhhhh until eventually he had to give up :) So they got off with it! Next time....

our plan is to move to Gozo in the next 3 years or so. One of the safest countries in the World, according to many security companies. I'd like to stay here, or Oman. Either will do. :) edited by CouchPotato on 09/03/2015

When the part time work law is discussed on the radio, and in newspaper articles, it is generally referring to working part time for another employer with your original employer's approval. It is not talking about the number of hours per week you work. As long as you have a ministry contract, labour card etc, generally the number of hours you actually work is determined between you and your employer. As long as you have everything documented and signed, MOL is usually only concerned with whether not the employee is going over the stipulated hours per week in the labour law.

I agree with Debliz on this one, the company showed goodwill by cancelling your visa and obliging you with a repayment scheme, morally it would be best to repay them, even if it is a nominal amount per month. Contacting them with details of this nominal amount and dates you'll pay every month should stop them contacting you all the time.

I know someone in another country who tried to get me involved in the <not mentioning company name> sign-up. I am absolutely not interested as I think it's one huge scam (nothing to do with the products but all about the sign-up fee) but out of interest kept asking about labour cards/legalities to see what the deal was. This was the response I got: [i'>Please note that our members are all Independent Distributor and they are not directly employee of XXX. Moreover, XXX are not providing any visa or sponsor the Distributors to legally stay in the country. Most of the Distributors are employed by other companies at the same time doing a business for XX. They have their own freewill to be a member for XX as an Independent Distributors.[/i'> Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

From under my blanket, your weather sounds nice although rain must be better than slippery ice? But I agree with your sentiments that sun brings good cheer With 6 months of it coming, we need not fear 'twil be November again when the skies become dark and EWers all over shout "look!" and "hark!" May we always remember this day with the breeze and times with no blanket where we surely would freeze as soon we will pine for these cooler times when the Snow Birds of Dubai fly to cooler climes (For newbies, Snow Birds leave on the last day of school Coming back in September is mostly the rule) Chezmoi maybe you need a hol in the sun? Come here as ours will be back by Mon!

Singarosa:- - any 'mutton' dish you buy in any Asian/Arabic restaurant here will be goat meat. - what do you see a lot of in this region (goats) compared to none of (sheep) - Lamb meat is mostly imported and more expensive (think NZ etc) - Lamb meat is labelled "lamb chops" or 'lamb shoulder' etc - Lamb meat is more expensive - Goat meat is labelled "mutton". :) edited by CouchPotato on 26/02/2015

Generally in the Middle East, "Mutton" is meat from a goat, and not an older sheep. Lamb is usually labelled "lamb". Many people find goat meat to be tastier than lamb meat and it is used widely in biryanis and middle eastern rice/meat dishes.

Personally I will only use a maid agency who uses mops which have been made with organic cotton. The agency should also have maids who sweep from left to right, not right to left as this is better for feng shui. The maid must also keep her back to the front door to allow the fluid energy conducted to ebb around her and straight out of the door.

Also remember that your container will sit in the port where it regularly reaches 45 degrees + in the summer. :) Your food, candles, make up, lotions and potions will all be merrily boiling away at that time and will be ruined. Clothes is the best thing to stock up on. It definitely does get chilly here, you'll not only need jumpers, boots etc for winter (can be 9 degrees leaving for the school run in winter) but you'll also need them when you go to a Mall or the Cinema in the summer, as it's baltic in there too. happy packing! ;)

The protocol regarding controlled medication is that the Dr's prescription must be attested in the country of origin, then stamped by the equivalent of MOFA in that country, and then by the UAE Embassy in that country. You can reconfirm this with your embassy though. She would also be wise to have a supporting letter from the Doctor attested in the same way. Lots of people will tell you they've brought medication in before and it has all been fine, but above is the procedure.

Welcome to Dubai OV Communities like: Silicon Oasis, Mirdif, The Villa, Falcon City are all within a 15 minute radius and have good schools in or nearby. You should find something within your budget in all of these. You could also choose to live in Al Warqa which would have more of a Local feel and style of villa, depending on your preference. Oh dear Artemis, what joy did I find in someone whose prose is the same in their mind You see, it's been years now since odeing was fashion Now EW's all dull, time spent mostly spam-bashin' Shway shway, wait, an ode lasting more than 24 hours? does this mean she who odes need not quiver and cower? Do we have a new Mod who thinks odeing is fun? And will it still [i'>be[/i'> fun, when we don't need to run? When odeing no longer means another new name where you must start fresh your star-count, head hung in shame Where is our friend, the one who kicked started this prose The one who woke us all from our EW sleepy doze And will we have more oders, like days of yore When EW was never, ever a bore Ye old times, the best, bring them back, dear Flower EW is surely getting better hour by hour.

No, his DH has changed job. DH has put the family visas 'on hold', while he cancels previous visa and starts new visa. Once his new visa is stamped, he lifts the 'on hold' from the family visas. None of them can travel during this time.

Sorry, all information you have been given is incorrect. you can NOT travel while your visas are on hold. However, to get your visas stamped is a one day process once your DH's is done. Next week should be no problem provided you have everything ready to go once Dh's is done. Post if you need more info on how to do.
