How long does shaun take to clean an oven? Does he come himself or does he send a team? Also approx. how much does he charge?

Don't worry so much. Growing up I had a lot of friends who were an only child (some older and some younger). Having close friends will replace the feeling of not having any siblings. It may be harder here since a lot of the families here only stay a few years and leave ( I grew up in Bahrain and Kuwait) I'm still in touch with a few of my childhood friends who were an only child and it hasn't affected them now, in fact I've noticed they are all very close with their parents. Just keep a strong bond with your child and he should be alright. He will have the holidays to look forward too see all his relatives. If anything you will notice it more as you will be spending more time entertaining him rather than leaving him to play with his siblings

It's a definite no no. Instead of approaching the mother. It might be a better idea to approach the schools management so they can send a newsletter to all parents.

How painful. I hope you get well soon. Try applying ice to the area as often as you can until you see a doctor.

You also need to factor in what kind of doctors, certain specialities have higher salaries. I know from a friend that nurses make between 8000 - 10,000 dhs/month. And more if they speak Arabic.

My understanding is that if you are formula feeding then any extra vitamins are not necessary. If the mother is breastfeeding and she is vit d deficient as most people living here are (not a lot of people sit in the sun) then you should give a supplement.

This is probably a very late reply. I hope you were able to send your cat without too much of a delay. Anyways for the future if anyone is in the same situation you could have your future place of employment handle the shipment. In my place of employment they have arranged for the import of dogs/cats/birds for several managerial staff that were recruited abroad.

I switched back to prepaid. I needed to go to the branch behind dusit Thani to get my 2000 dhs deposit refunded, it couldn't be done in the mall branch.

Reminds me of the time my husband refused to leave his bag with customer service and he also refused to let them staple it since it was a gift. He had purchased some gold for someone's newborn. He made a very big deal about it, and a big line had formed behind him. In the end they covered the bag with plastic, just the little strings were hanging out and they sealed it with their machine. He is very specific even on normal days, the bag has to be stapled perfectly, all straight and forming an even line.

It really annoys me when colleagues at work overuse big words, just because they know them, and they use them in all the wrong places. Especially the word 'unequivocal'.

I've never really ever heard anyone call a housemaid a helper. Maybe it depends where you are from as back home they do say 'the help' collectively referring to all the cleaners, cooks, gardeners and drivers. Any title sounds better than servant.

Everyone here seems to have the major supermarkets covered. Where you shop is really going to depend on where you live, especially for buying fridge/freezer products. The worst thing is buying a bunch of things for the freezer and coming home to find they have all defrosted. I do most of my daily shopping in geant (since its near my house) they have a good butcher, but I feel some items are a little on the expensive side. Coop and lulu are great for buying all the cleaning supplies and detergents, canned foods, fruit and veg. Mostly if you want to buy anything in bulk. Carrfour also has some great offers, the smaller branches don't have a large selection and I've noticed they tend to only stock the smaller sizes of laundry detergents and other cleaning products. They also seem to have the more expensive products without the cheaper alternative brands. It's nice to visit one of the larger Carrfour's at least once a month. Park and shop is also nice to stop by every few weeks. They have nice breads and lifco has good meat and vegis. Spinney's is nice to visit after all the essentials are already purchased for imported items. I also occasionally visit safest way to buy American junk food.

They have my PO box number, but have never mailed me anything. Once they emailed me a voucher to collect a free gift, I wasn't interested in the product so I never collected it.

Cowboy I think you were given innacurate info. The laminated doors here are awful but all that needs to be done is lightly rub back with sand paper (not too coarse) so that the primer and then the paint will stick and apply properly. You would never spray paint doors on site, spray painting should only be done in a chamber. Who told you they could only be spray painted:lol: Every random painter (mostly from maintenance companies and one from dulux) said it couldn't be done, until under one roof said that it could be spray painted with a special spray paint from the USA, but their quotation was so over priced it didn't seem worth it anymore.

It is legal to keep your maids passport with you, however it is more of a moral issue if you chose to keep it or let her keep it. If you do keep it with her, it best to advise her not to carry it everywhere she goes out of the house, and to keep it in a safe place, it seems like common knowledge for us, but sometimes they need a reminder. Her emirates id should always be with her, she will need it for transferring money back to her home country.

It depends on how reliable and trusted your house help is. If she is trustworthy and will not loose it, it's fine to let her keep her passport with her. However it's good to keep a photocopy or scanned copy with you. New maids especially from agencies have a habit of running away, especially in their first few months so you should be careful. I had a maid who lost her passport, and it was a real hassle to get replaced, so it really depends on the girl.

A lot of people travel in the summer, schools are off and it gets really hot here. From my own personal experience work in the summer months is much lighter (not a lot of overtime needed) and there is much less traffic (I get to work in 15 mins as opposed to 25 mins) so I'd much rather work in the summer and take my holiday in the winter. Also this year ramadan will be in the summer so your husband is likely to have a shorter day so you will both have more time together.

Tip: the better quality satins and nets would be softer to touch. However depending on the style of the dress a stiffer net might be used to create a puff effect.

Just by feeling the dress you can tell if it's a pure fabric or it's mixed. My friend bought her wedding dress from Mazaya centre, and she looked great on the day and in all the photos. She just had the tailor add wider shoulder straps. The most important thing is it looks good, fits well and feels comfortable. If these three things are not met, keep looking. The biggest problem is with buying dresses online without seeing the quality of the dress and their is a chance the dress would be a poor fit.

I have a nespresso machine, very happy with it. You can get them from the nespresso shop in dubai mall or mall of the emirates. The machine i got has an attachment for heating and frothing milk, the most basic model doesn't have this. It's best to visit the shop when you aren't very busy so you can try all the different coffee flavours.the machine only comes with samples of the most popular flavours, not all the kinds they sell. They also deliver coffee capsules to the house.

I tried the painting companies, but the doors are some sort of laminate surface that paint won't stick to. The only way is with a special type of spray paint. I'd do it myself but I really want a professional finishing without drippy marks.

MIL's are generally older so they usually have a wealth of knowledge to share. Often they have good intentions but from my experience they share a lot of outdated information, for example, MIL will cook livers and kidneys for a pregnant woman and offer a plate with all the unpasteurised cheeses, totally oblivious to the risks.

For indian on a tight budget id suggest India palace in garhoud. I really like their food. Also in jumeirah zabeel saray on the palm they have a nice indian restaurant called amala. They have a fixed price per person, it's like a sampling menu, and their food is amazing. For thai I'd suggest pai thai in madinat jumeirah.

A dermatologist would be the wrong specialist to see. You need a GP. It's very likely to be diabetes related so don't leave it for too long.
