I am like minded! Card making and sewing. Living in DIFC, no car. Have lived in Abu Dhabi and Qatar where I crafted with a small group of ladies I find a large group too much for crafting as too many different levels. Un fortunately due to family commitments in uk I am not here much at moment I leave on Thursday or I would have arranged to meet. I have been to Satwa buying fabric and seeing what's available there. Maybe on my next trip we could meet.

We moved to Doha from Abu Dhabi almost a year ago......yes things have been more difficult first being finding an apartment because of the cost really and realising we were not going to get what we had in Abu Dhabi. Pools in most buildings in west bay are indoors, in the shade or open to the wind!.........other costs compare to the emirates. Has taken me longer to settle here but sometimes I like the quieter pace. There are things to do just not as much and you need to look harder for them. Shopping is not as good, less variety but we survive. Social life is excellent with lots of good hotels and restaurants. It is not like Abu Dhabi/Dubai but it is not that bad!!

Not just a Manchester thing I recently flew from Glasgow and was not going to be allowed to leave because I was coming to Doha for 2 months........they wanted proof that I would have a flight leaving Doha within the 30 days.....took a long time, explanations and many phone calls at the check in desk before I was cleared to fly! Not the most enjoyable experience alone at the airport at 4.30am!

I have to say I had to compromise all the way! Came from a lovely big apartment in Abu Dhabi with a big heated pool on the roof where I was more often the only person using it. We came to Doha wanting balcony, outdoor pool etc......firstly apartments were more expensive than we thought they would be, then outdoor pools tended to be shaded most of the day and also unheated, also it has been far windier than Abu Dhabi so not always possible to use outdoor pool in winter......then summer is sometimes too hot.....so we compromised to have a good indoor pool we can use to excercise etc Also compromised over balcony...windy, sandy, shaded depending what way your apartment faces! In general if you are facing the city centre mall you will be on the sunny side of the building, if you are facing the pearl direction you have a lot of shade during day. We were temporarily in the Ascott lovely apartment but facing pearl and very dark, needed lights on daytime etc Ascott has an small indoor pool and a slightly larger outdoor unheated one on roof with only room for 4sunbeds in the sun which was limited. We liked Beverly Hills, ASas, Sara tower.....not so keen on Beach tower, Al areen, Al Dareen...definite no to Ezdan! There was no or limited availability in the ones we liked! Fed up waiting for a decent apartment to come on in the end we opted for the Kempinski serviced residences........love it! We got a good floor on the sunny side... Hope that helps a bit x

I think it is a bit of a personal decision in the end as to what suits you! What one person might like is not necessarily what another likes. Also dependent I think on where your husband works as traffic can be a nightmare. We opted for west bay because husbands office was there, also I liked being to walk to the mall and other eating places and hotels nearby. Husband has since moved office and because they are going in the opposite direction to most others it is working quite well. We must have been in every apartment block in west bay and had difficulty getting something available especially on a good side of the building and a decent floor. The pearl is lovely but I didn't want to rely on a driver etc every time I wanted to go out . I also believe there are roadworks planned which could make traffic worse for a while. I would take your time and have a really good look and hopefully it will help make your decision.

Sorry to hear Tribe never had much. There are 2 good stores in Dubai Paperlane and Creative Hands. These are proper craft stores though prices are more than you would be used to but I always go with the fact that at least you can get things. There is a small craft store in Abu Dhabi Craft Corner doesn't have everything but a reasonable stock for the size of the shop. I tend to buy when I am in the UK and bring back, I do have a large stock of things so shouldn't need to look for too much. We didn't have a good mail delivery in Abu Dhabi so I tended not to mail order, not sure if we will be better in Doha. I will be back in Doha in a week or 2, will catch up then. If you need anything brought back let me know. X

I only managed to be in Doha for 10days before my trip back to the UK, in that time I never really saw any cardmaking supplies. I don't think there are any. Came from Abu Dhabi where we had a couple of craft shops and visited the Dubai stores which stocked much more. I always managed to get some basics in the stationary shops in Abu Dhabi, but I have not located these yet in Doha. Once we get set up in apartment and my supplies arrive I won't be short of things!.......I usually manage with just picking up things when I am back in the UK. If anyone is looking for anything in particular I have loads of craft CDs and files on my computer. Can also cut things with my cricut machine.

Have been in UK for a month but back in Doha on 10th Jan, would love to meet up with you then? We will be living in West Bay.

Dolce Gusto capsules are available, not the full range though. Think a box is about £6 approx I can't remember exactly. It is fairly new that you can get them when we moved to middle east you coudn't get them at all and I left my machine in the UK. I think most people use the Nespresso machine as the capsules are more readily available.

They are looking for us to commit without seeing the furniture, view from apartment etc.....having trouble getting my head round that! Would like to know what I am getting for the money!
