Hi Elnino & Natalie, do keep in mind that Monday is a 50% promotion day anyhow (at least it was so during summer); you can keep your voucher (for whichever branch it is) for another treat.j Enjoy the pampering... edited by crystalsindubai on 04/09/2011

@MIRDIFMUMMY: yes, Le Creuset are rather on the expensive side. However, they are metal based so don't break. Damage to watch for is the emaille coating inside.

MOnday promotion is usually 50% of any treatment. The "Buy One Get Two" (tied to particular branches, so check out the voucher) apply to the same or similar treatments. edited by crystalsindubai on 03/09/2011

Loving the Le Creuset cookware. Coming in so many different sizes, they are available at Tavola, MoE and Jumeirah Beach Road (Century Mall?) and Spinneys Al Wasl Road. edited by crystalsindubai on 02/09/2011

It is an extremely unpleasant situation to be placed in wherever it happens, as in my case as early as the mid 70's in the Ticino, Switzerland. Had an interview, subsequent agreement, and as I arrived the day before to take up my position, I was advised that the job had been eliminated. I subsequently came to Dubai, and never looked back. Certainly not as far reaching as in your case, but the UAE is not the only place this kind of treatment is known. So wish that your husband will find a position by far surpassing this cancelled one.

Hi crystalsindubai - thank you so much for the offer, but I am now living in Canada (but missing Dubai, as you can tell from me still hovering around on EW!). Scotchanddiet - I haven't set up a user on pinterest yet - I just googled it after seeing it mentioned in your post and was wowed by it. Thanks for your link - I will certainly follow you.:) Hi again Snugglepot, hope you can find suitable materials... or have the supplies "faded out" for decoupage? Lovely to hear of people who miss Dubai and must have enjoyed their stay, instead of all the "whiners"....! See you around, then, on EW. Hi Scotchandiet, had a quick look at Pinterest - had a look at it last night after your post - great new concept (for me). Must delve into it more thoroughly.

Spätzle is supereasy to make fresh and Even better than the dried ones. Thomy mustard we always buy in Germany.. I know, and it's just a matter of convenience, and practicality...

This is atrocious corporate behaviour which should, indeed, be named and shamed! As disappointing all this is one might almost ask if you/your DH were not lucky never to have startet working at such a company, and what you might have avoided in the future - small consolation that is, I know. Wishing that your DH will soon find a position "well worth" the upheaval and distress of the moment.

For the mustard, you could try the Organic Food Store, they carry quite a lot of German goods. Dry spaetzle? Never heard of them... would love to know also if you find out! We were just there today, but did not look for mustard! DH was excited to find apple spritzer and herb cream cheese (my Australian translation). We used to bring packets of dry spaetzle back from Germany (just like pasta packaging) as neither of us are good cooks! Wow, TwoKids... that's good news to me! Mmmmm... Kaesspaetzle coming up! Will try and get a supply from Germany - thanks for the tip.

Thanks Crystals. I have been looking at the Vietnamese at Shangri-La for ages, is that the one you recommended? How was it? Love, love, love Vietnamese food. Peppercrab sounds good as well. I'm googling as we speak, thanks for the recs. Hi again granola, I had mentioned the Chinese restaurant at the Shangri La; aside from my personal experience, I can always see Chinese people dining there - good sign. The HoyAn (Vietnamese) is also super, their food so delicous and the interiors so beautiful. For something real special, ask for the chef to come and advise you... Service is very attentive...

Granola. city meaning Burj Downtown, SZR, Bur Dubai? If so, I could recommend Teatro's at the Rotana Towers SZR, or the Chinese Rest at the Shangri La; GREAT steaks at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse / Okku (fine dining Japanese) at The Monarch; The Noble House at the Raffles (exceptional); another super place is the Peppercrab and the Grand Hyatt. Not sure about lunch service at the Emirates Golf Club, rather think its open. The Classique is not open at lunchtimes. TBH I don't rate it at all. The new restaurant there is devoid of any atmosphere.Food is mediocre. Ruth Chris - again, no atmosphere. Such a shame as great steaks. I agree, the atmosphere at Ruth's is nothing to speak about, but the steaks (and their seefood) are divine... The Classique: I can't remember a meal that was not out of the ordinary there. But, then, it all comes down to personal taste, doesn't it? Just the other day, we had orders of Foie Gras, Salmon tartare and as entre the grilled hammour that tasted more delicious than a much touted lobster... every bite a pleasure. So, bon apetit to all, wherever you decide to dine and wine!

Any recommendations for Souk Madinat? Looking for some inspiration for something new. Good if we could use Entertainer (family) vouchers and must serve vino! TIA , At the Souq Madinat my choice of restaurant would be "Il Secreto", of if you like vegetarian food, there always is the Magnolia. Vino is available at all restaurants at the madinat. edited by crystalsindubai on 01/09/2011

Hi Snugglepot, Years ago, I used to do decoupage and still have some good craft books, papers and boxes, if you are interested. It is a lovely craft, even if "old-fashioned" as you say, and well worth learning. Let me know if you'd like to see the materials.

If I am correct to understand that you are talking about the Seafood Restaurant at the end of the pier of Jumeirah Beach Hotel (?), then, no, I don't consider it romantic. If you are seated best location (towards the shoreline & the hotel), it has quite a spectacular view For a romantic atmosphere I would choose either "Secreto" (in the Madinat Jumeirah just between the two hotels / Italian cuisine), or the EauZone at the One & Only Royal Mirage (Arabian Court / East=West Fusion cuisine). Wherever you go, enjoy yourselves, and congratulations on all your celebrations! edited by crystalsindubai on 31/08/2011

Hi Maracas, I used to commute from RAK to Dubai every two days (sleeping over in Dubai one night) (2006-2008). The morning trip to Dubai through Sharjah was a nightmare as was the return to RAK in late afternoons/evenings. However, if you were to live at Silicon Oasis and travelled to RAK in the mornings, I believe you would not take more than 1 hour (up to the outskirts of RAK). Alternatively, you could use the Outer Bypass Road which is a pleasure to travel, and free from heavy traffic. if you can avoid the Sharjah traffic you'll be ok.

I live in the Lake View Tower (Cluster B), pay 65k (but I know others with the same apt pay 55k) for a 1 br apartment of almost 1400 sq.ft./2 balconies, lovely & bright with full front windows all around. Qualtiy of the building is surprisingly good. I believe there are some availabilities. (Nos. ..05 & ..08 up to the 19th floor; above the 21ast floor its the ..09 apts). I use the Metro, just about 300 m away.

In the case of renewals, any changes in conditions have to be advised by the landlord three months prior to renewal. He has no leg to stand on when / if you go to Rera. Also, do check the official Rera rental index for your area to know what your rent level should be.

BY LAW, companies are not allowed to retain passports; labour cards are also supposed to be in the hands of the employee. Hi Pepito, I really should have asked in which area you live, i.e. that would have explained. The old type a/cs (in the older areas of Dubai) run via Dewa; in the newer areas (Marina, Emirates Hills, etc), a/cs run on chillers and they use very little electricity but are separately billed by cooling firms. Hence, properties in older construction have far higher Dewa bills but no extra bill for cooling. The taxes (5% Dubai Municipality houseing fee) is levied on all properties in town, and collected via Dewa on a monthly basis; you should see the item at the bottom of your bill.
