We have booked the 00.30 flight from DXB getting in at 6.15am. Our agent advised us we will be met at Male by the hotel rep and brought to the sea plane terminal where we will wait in the hotel lounge for sea plane departure.. We may have an approx hour wait as we're told the sea plane tends to wait for a couple of flights to arrive so the plane is full. We've also been advised the hotel will organise our sea plane departure from the hotel to get us to male in time for our 08.55am flight home. Yes the timings could be better with less waiting but hey we're saving 5k so will cope. We go in 2 weeks so hopefully I will be singing their praises after that. edited by CurlyOB on 28/02/2013

Yes I have friends living in Deema 3 and they are in the same boat. Getting nowhere contacting Etisalat either. apparently the total line is "down" and they keep promising it will be fixed but nothing happening. It must be so frustrating. Curly

Yes I guess they will be basic enough but as far as I can see we get 20kgs each and 7kgs hand luggage. We are flying with our two DDs (19 months and 3.5) so should have ample luggage allowance. Getting in at 6.15am, the agent said we may have until 7.30 to wait until the sea plane transfer but we would be waiting in the resorts lounge at the airport so that prob won't be so bad. Emirates are 9,260 where as Fly Dubai are 4,252 so 5k saving to go towards spa treatments and babysitting ;) I'm with you on that Dangerous Blonde As long as they are safe and clean then that's great. Cheers all, Curly edited by CurlyOB on 05/02/2013

For Male I found they were cheap because their flight schedules fit very poorly around the seaplane transfer timings. Yes I was wondering about this. I am waiting on the agent to get back to me re the seaplane transfer timings. We should get into Male at 6.15 am and I'm told the first transfer from the island is 6am so I would assume there would be early seaplane transfers back but of course this is just an assumption so will see what agent says. 4000dhs cheaper might just be worth it though. Thanks for your replies, I appreciate the feedback. Curly

Hi I hope you don't mind me hijacking as I was about to post a question about the Egate and I saw this thread! How does it work when travelling with children? I have two DDs and will be travelling this year alot, sometimes alone, other times with DH. If both myself and DH have Egates do we still need them for our children? Can their passports get stamped somewhere? Or do we need seperate Egates for us all? Anyone have experience of this? Cheers and sorry again for the hijack.

Hope to book our first Maldives trip in next few days and have prices for B&B, Half Board and All Inclusive. Am trying to decide between HB and AI and whether we'd actually spend the difference in the week. I am aware that the hotels are very expensive. What do you seasoned Maldives travelers recommend? Is all inclusive the only way to go? Traveling with my DH and two DDs (19 months and 3.5yrs) Thanks, Curly

Hi fairyprincess I can't believe your sister hasn't received her luggage yet and what's worse doesn't seem to be getting anywhere with her investigations. Your sisters story is one of a good few terrible emirates stories I've heard over the Christmas, whatever is going on with them. I have a friend who may have contacts, I will get back to you as soon as possible. Curly

Hi there, I'm toying with the idea of doing my ham in the slow cooker. Can someone who has done this already tell me how much water or coke was used? I'm a bit nervous doing it this way rather than the conventional boiling and then baking it at the end with the glaze. I'm confused as the bit on nijellas website says to cover the gammon in coke but it says below only an inch of liquid is required. Any tips to get me started. Thanks a mil, Curly edited by CurlyOB on 23/12/2012

Took taxi yesterday Dubai Marina - Abu Dhabi (place a bit after airport, so after YAS Island) 150dhs and back at night 175dhs. The taxi waiting time is 30dhs per hour. Or alternatively they also have daily rates for taxies: 300dhs for 6 hours or 500dhs for 12 hours (probably these you need to book ahead of time?) Spinnaker, This so far sounds like the most economical option. Is it just the RTA I would call to make a booking? And the taxi would hang around at a waiting price? I'd be concerned that its just a normal taxi and there will be 1000's of taxis waiting around after the GP? Any other info on this would be great thanks.

I used Thrifty last month and was very happy. 300 bucks for the day. Mop, I assume that was driving yourself? My friend and her new DH will want to have a few beverages so that won't be an option. Also wouldn't be used to driving here. Cheers though, Curly

Hi I worked with clients for the last two years at the abudhabbers grandprix where drivers were taking them daily and bringing them back. This guy is good. Amin 0555916892. Try him has a nice Lexus and may be cheaper than others. 700 is about the going rate to tale them there and wait for 6-7 hours. Hi Penny, I called that number you gave me but it was a wrong number, he sounded like he had no idea what I was talking about? Do you have another number perhaps? Thanks

Hi all, Need your help and expertise for my friend. I am home at the moment for my best friends wedding and she is stopping off in Dubai on their final leg of their honeymoon. As a surprise she has gotten F1 tickets for her new hubby for the Sunday but as they will be based in Dubai she needs info on hiring a driver/chauffeur to collect them from their hotel, bring them to the Grand Prix and back to Dubai. Any advice on companies, drivers etc and would you know the approximate cost. Would really appreciate your help as I'd love to get this organized for her to take the stress out of it for her. Thanks ladies, Curly

How old were your LO's when you first left them with a babysitter & what agency would you recommend? Meow, On a few occasions now we have left our LOs with babysitters from the agency Busy Bees, Dubai. I do try to get the same lady but it's not always possible. The ones I have had we're older ladies, very gentle and I felt comfortable leaving my DDs with them. We never went too far and always stayed in regular contact with the sitter but it worked for us and it meant my DH and I could get out for a dinner from time to time. The girls never woke either so that was a bonus. On other occasions friends and I babysit for each other. Hope you can sort something. Curly

I'm with you Pilatesmama, we had Pizza and lasagne from there last night and it was terrible. The pizzas tasted like cardboard and the lasagne, tasteless! Like you my DH had to run to choitrims For a few things, we hadn't eaten so thought he'd grab someThing from there. Extortionately priced for what you get and tasted horrible. Deffo won't last long!

Thanks mandarin We opted for the package but now I can't seem to get it in English. I've tried changing the language in the settings but it keeps going back to Arabic. Does anyone know if one channel is in Arabic and the other in English or will it all be Arabic. Would have been better off with the German channels as I speak a bit of German. Can anyone help me with the language issue please? Good luck to all the teams, let's hope it's a great competition. Curly

I'm not 100% on this but I believe your assumption is right, once the passport is Valid for duration of US stay it's fine and no visa required once the online immigration is filled out. But Yes do double check with the embassy, they are pretty helpful.

Hi, Sorry for the hijack but woUld love some clarification. I have looked at the link below but am still confused. My DH and I got ID cards way back when the first panic was on. They have both expired So we need renewals. The link does not specify If there is a charge for delay in renewal, just a charge for non registration/issuance .... Or do I take the delay Fee to relate to both? Also should I assume that we need to sort ours out before getting out almost 3 year old DDs? Last question ..... If we get renewals now And pay the fines if applicable, will we have to renew again in a years time when residency is renewed? Appreciate your feedback Curly
