How exciting FairyDust, have fun! I have an excellent weekend planned. Party tonight, friends over tomorrow and Mixtape tomorrow night. I'm really looking forward to it all so will probably have children floored by a 24 hour fever from 6pm tonight and will miss it all. Saturday is the usual dizzying schedule of children's activities and birthday parties.

Something isn't adding up. From what you have said you are eating (assuming the portions are reasonable and not humungous) and the exercise you are doing, you really shouldn't be 6+ stone overweight. Which means you are either eating far far more than you realise or something else is going on. How do know you have problems absorbing nutrients and who is giving you injections for this? Were you properly diagnosed and has there been any attempt to sort out the underlying issue (if there is in fact one) or is someone just treating the symptoms - for a cost presumably?

You have said you have seen personal trainers, what have they said? What sort of routines have you done with them? And have you stuck with it? As FairyDust said, you need to exercise so if you aren't doing so as a regular, long term thing it could be a big factor in why you are struggling.

I'd add some fat to your diet. Some vitamins are only fat soluble so your body can't absorb them if you aren't getting enough fat. I never have fat free or fat reduced anything. The nuts and avocado are great for good fats but make sure you are also getting some fat with your main meals. How about exercise?

Actually, if you heard it on 92, the fastest way to get an ad pulled is to complain to the radio station itself. If you all mention the ad on https://www.facebook.com/Dubai92?ref=br_tf you'll never hear it again. Good idea Guinness, I've complained to 92 directly.

Hi ST90 I'm sorry to hear you are struggling so badly with this. It's hard to know what to suggest without knowing where you are at now. Do you keep a food diary? Writing down absolutely everything you eat/drink? If you post on here everything you eat and drink on an average day along with any activity/exercise you do it might make it easier to give you some suggestions.

If I was spending Christmas alone here I think I'd go shopping, get my nails done then restaurant and movie. It always feels very unchristmassy out and about here with all the shops open and business as usual so being out would take my mind off better than sitting home feeling lonely. I hope you end up having a nice day assisi.

I'm with Chewit, if you don't like doing it, keep your effort minimal. I'm sure Barney will survive a weekend without meeting Tom Cruise and the like  I normally just print off a few pictures of what ever we have been up to at the weekend, stick them in the book then my child captions them. Doesn't matter if they can't write yet, a picture speaks a thousand words ;) Ten minutes of effort on my part, job done. It seems pretty rough to penalise your child for applying themselves and doing well. Especially as with several million to pass on it's not like they would be leaving their daughter a pauper if they did a more even split. As far as I am aware my parents are planning on evenly splitting things with our family. If for some odd reason they didn't and I got more than my brothers (not going to happen I'm sure!) I'd give them an equal share anyway as it just wouldn't feel right. Our children get an even split of everything in our will, I can't imagine doing it any other way. Although it's easy for me to say that now, they are still all young so equally perfect. If when they grow up I thought one of them might use the money to harm themselves or someone else I might change my tune.

Hi derien Sorry to hear it's gone from bad to worse :( The simple fact is you have hired someone to do a job for you and if she is unable to do that job you really don't have any option but to either send her home or allow her to find another job (in which case you would need to be honest with any future employers so she is very unlikely to find one...). Our maid of five years had some serious health issues which resulted in her having 11 weeks off work sick in a year and us spending tens of thousands of dirhams in medical bills. We eventually had to send her home, very reluctantly (and with a large severance pay) because we needed someone who could work and she couldn't. She was a faultless employee in the time she was with us and I hated sending her off for something that wasn't her fault but it's what I had to do. However, in your case with how your maid has been behaving I would have absolutely no qualms in terminating her employment immediately. She has shown you no loyalty or consideration so why on earth should you show her any? She's not working at the moment so you are getting no return from the money you have spent on her visa anyway, may as well write it off completely and find someone new.

Our maid is in a standard maid's room but has in there a microwave, small fridge, kettle and rice cooker. She is welcome to cook in my kitchen if she wants to use the oven/hob but she generally doesn't. If she does cook in there she does so when I'm not home.

My six year old has told me a couple of children in his class are going, there are normally quite a few younger ones at concerts, especially those starting early like Party in the Park. I often take my children to concerts in the afternoon/early evening and have never been in any situation that I feel is inappropriate for them at that time.

From what I saw the other day, I don't think reversing is taught here when getting your drivers licence, I hope not anyway. I was at a petrol station watching the atrocious attempts at reversing parallel to the pump from a driving school car in front of me. I was fondly remembering learning to drive myself when the driver got out......it was an instructor, in uniform

I'm a reverse parker too. Like pollydxb, my car is low at the front and prone to getting caught. If I'm reversing up to a pavement or path it also means I can get the buggy out the boot without having to stand in the road to do it. Plus with my rear parking cameras I can actually get in to a tight park quicker and easier reversing in. I like your father's style MollyMooMoo, I've always got my eye on a quick exit too.

We have come to view assessments as a benchmark of our kids status and, in some cases, an assessment of our own parenting. Actually, these test are supposed to highlight potential problems and allow teachers to react appropriately. A poor result would force the school to address the issues that you are worried about. Assessment is your friend...relax. Love this, nicely written Chewit.

My cleaner arrived in a fluster today saying that she had just passed a woman at the compound swimming pool wearing nothing but stringy bikini bottoms. [b'>The woman was standing up chatting to her teenage son[/b'>. The compound gardener, a very decent guy, was keeping clear of pool area to avoid embarrassment. Unfortunately, his office door is down there, so he was in a bit of a jam. I was completely outraged, but a friend pointed out that she is in her own home, not on a public beach and should be allowed to do what she wants. I don't know who she was or which Villa she came from, should I ask the management to intervene? Am I overreacting? Crikey, when I was a teenager if my mother had gotten her baps out at a swimming pool I would have died of embarrassment, not stood there chatting to her! If I felt outraged by anyone's behaviour (nudity or otherwise) at our community swimming pool I'd say something directly to them first off. If not resolved I'd escalate it to security or management. To be honest, if it didn't bother me, I wouldn't bother complaining on the basis that someone else might be offended. I think most people are perfectly capable of complaining if something upsets them enough so I wouldn't rush in under the notion that I was acting on behalf of others possibly taking offense. If it upsets the gardener he could alert management himself.

Our school asks that cupcakes (or anything else single serve) is sent in rather than a whole cake as it's much quicker and easier to give to the children rather than having to cut slices. It's a personal thing but I don't like it when my children get given candy in goody bags at school, I normally bin it if I get a chance. With all the events and birthdays at school they get given it once a week (at least) in the younger years, it's too much. My children have all loved stickers at that age, perfect for goodie bags.

I'm confused. I've had the ticks on whatsapp since I got my iPhone. 1 tick meant it was sent and two means it was read… I thought everyone had it. One tick means it has been successfully sent from your server, two ticks means it has been delivered to the recipients server (but doesn't necessarily mean it has been read). ETA: Sorry andreasmullet, should have said that the above is how it's been until now. Now what happens: One grey tick – the message is successfully sent Two grey ticks – the message is successfully delivered to the recipient’s phone Two blue ticks – the recipient has read your message edited by Daza on 07/11/2014

For those of you who thumbed down my posts, I would also add that in this day and age, [b'>cleaning up messes has to be the least of valuable skills[/b'>. It is easy to hire help and the most successful people I know were raised with maids and spent their time learning useful things instead of focusing on the drudgery of life. I disagree. I had flatmates at university who never had to lift a finger before and when they found themselves on their own they lived in a total mess, ate McDonalds all the time as they couldn't cook and took huge bags of laundry home at holidays. I think that parents who don't teach their children about basic looking after themselves are doing them no favours.

None of mine have been, smart and capable for the most part. They have been maids through circumstance, not because they are dumb.

Hi We are thinking of moving to Australia, I have a year old daughter and husband who's an electrical engineer and I myself am a qualified pharmacist from uk. Ideally I want some where they have good schools, nice community, [b'>not too overpriced[/b'> for rent or activities and some where we can both work. I don't know where to start looking for the best place area to live! Does any one know where I can start to look? Or they can recommend a city. Would appreciate your help! Thanks You can rule out Sydney, it's mind boggling expensive. I've got a few friends who have well paid jobs but left Sydney as the cost of living is so high. One moved to Adelaide and loves it, housing is much more reasonable.

Anyone been here more than one year and managed to stay exactly the same weight you arrived at? If so how did you do it! I'm a couple of kgs lighter than when I first arrived. I exercise more, am stricter with what I eat and don't make excuses. That sounds really harsh but it's true. I eat out much more here and go to brunches but don't use it as an opportunity to stuff my face or drink loads. I walk a lot, even in the hot months when I go before the sun is properly up. I don't belong to a gym (no time to go to one) so exercise at home in the evenings. Most nights I'd rather collapse on the couch once the children are in bed but I just make myself do it. It's a choice, nothing wrong with choosing not to work hard at it but if you choose to make the effort, you can make it work. edited by Daza on 04/11/2014

really upset! she was babysitting for three hours and one full hour on the phone next to my baby!!!!!! need to be polite & tell her its not ok but really upset :( Hi saggi, it doesn't need to be a difficult conversation, just tell her very clearly that she is not to touch her phone (apart from answering a call from you or your husband) or computer while she is caring for your baby. No negotiation, no discussion, this is one of the terms of her employment. It's a totally reasonable term, I used to nanny part time, there is no way my employer would have tolerated me chatting on the phone or going on the computer when she was paying me to care for her children. You don't need to get upset or annoyed about what she has done already, just tell her how things are going to be going forward. This isn't about you feeling awkward, it's about you dealing with something for the benefit of your child. You'll have to do that a lot, get your brave pants on and start now :)

I've always found L.K Bennett heels to be very comfortable and easy to walk in. If there is any even slight slippiness I always stick on sole grips from Aldo, I'm often running after a toddler too and they make me much more steady on my feet.
