I walked around the red zone perimeter when I was last there, it was SO weird, everything is just gone. There were wild flowers growing out if all the cracked pavements, it was like something out of a zombie movie. My brother is still there, he says it's slowly but surely getting better :)

Never move to NZ ladies, you'd have a nightmare! lol...I was born there...maybe its why I am so sensitive. Actually born in Christchurch and the day before the big one I was really ill. I had family very badly affected by the earthquake and my aunt passed away shortly after it, very sad. I'm sorry to hear that littleone :( The Chch earthquake was awful, I used to live there and spent the day nearly hysterical trying to contact family and friends. Thank goodness for Facebook status updates, I'm straight on there checking on everyone every quake now!

Have just had Healthy Home in. They were on time and very professional. Had all the beds done and all the rugs steamed cleaned. It was pretty gross how much dust they sucked out of the beds. I got the air con all cleaned yesterday, if I'm still sneezing tonight I'll be cross!

Slaon, have the comments below given you pause for thought at all? I'm gobsmacked by your attitude. Do you have a son? If so, would you consider him weak and immature if he called you regularly to see how you are? Especially if you were in a dangerous situation? Hats off to this man for caring for his mum.

OMG.... that was awesome, can't believe the "elvis" moment and i never really thought Tyrion had it in him ..... I am so waiting for John Snow and Khaleese to hook up Daza, which book is this up to as i may need to start reading them (but thanks to Simar...44 i have them on kindle) ... I'm a bit hazy on timelines ( I can barely remember what I had for breakfast!) but the I think it depends on each storyline how up to date it is. I *think* the Brandon and John stories are pretty up to date with the most recent book but there is still a lot to go on the Tyrion and Arya stories. Cant for the life of me remember where Khalesse is at! There should be some new stories starting in the next series too :)

Monteblanc would be a drain on the pocket. I doubt if anyone would be sane enough to blow off three to four thousand dirhams on a single pen. As Montblanc has been selling pens for over one hundred years you might be wrong about that.......

Tell them it's the master bedroom then feign confusion when they arrive. Once they are there surely they won't refuse? It's outrageous if they are being slack because it's the maid room rather than just that they are generally rubbish.

Hi Redrec I can't answer from the nursery point of view but the reason I sent my children to big school for FS1 was because it was harder to get a place if waiting for FS2. I know a couple of people who were offered places for FS1 and decided to stay in nursery for another year and ended up not getting a place for FS2. If that could be the case for your little one then it might make the decision for you.

I've got a foam mattress with a fitted waterproof mattress protector over that then a fitted cotton sheet. If it's a Mothercare cot then Mothercare should stock waterproof mattress protectors in the same size. Otherwise IKEA has standard size cot linen, I have a John Lewis cot but the IKEA mattress protector and fitted sheet fit fine. Good luck with the new arrival!

My experience has been that my first child was in a strict routine but subsequent children have just had to fit their sleeps around whatever else (drop offs, pick ups, activities etc) is going on. The routine you've got now actually looks pretty good, is there a reason you want to change it? You've got the holy grail of both children sleeping at once, I'd be thrilled with that. Time for you to rest if you need it or get stuff done. Also, with your youngest at not even 3 months I'd just let her sleep when she is tired and not even think about trying to keep her awake. Unless there is a major reason you need to change your current routine I'd just go with the flow and forget about what you did first time around - it rarely works again :)

Hi Vintaysia1980 When you went to see a doctor about this what did they say and what tests did they do? Did they check thyroid, hormones levels etc? Because if there is an underlying problem and you don't identify and deal with it then you'll just put the weight back on after surgery. You need to get to grips with the cause rather than just treat the symptoms. Also, if you feel comfortable putting on here a general overview of what/how much you currently eat then some of the ladies might be able to help out with advice.

Hi I'm not a mother, but I have been a daughter - and I had super strict parents. It's a whole different ball game when you're the parent, I find myself behaving in ways that I swore I never would. This is a really useful thread, my children are still a few years away from their teens, I'm storing advice for when the teenage years arrive. My brother has electric shutters on his house, no way you'd be getting out un-noticed if you had to open them.

[i'>But you can see their organs inside...[/i'> Though I agree with not killing them as they eat the bad stuff. But still. See through creatures should not be allowed! Organs schmorgans, they are so cute! Especially the ickle baby ones with their big googly eyes. I love having house geckos quietly going about their business eating the bugs.

I know a few people doing this at the moment. No Facebook is the new Facebook :D I've got no plans to leave. I love that Facebook lets me keep up with the general going ons in the lives of my friends in other countries. Realistically, we don't have time for regular long emails, Skype or phone calls so Facebook lets us keep up with each other's lives. And I love seeing photos of their children growing, I don't get back to visit much and children grow so fast. It certainly doesn't rule my life though, I can go weeks without updating my status although I do like to check most days what my friends and family are up to. Redrec, I wish friends happy birthday even if they are never active on Facebook. I figure they still might check from time to time and I'd like them to know I was thinking of them. edited by Daza on 13/06/2014

As the other ladies have said, totally normal. It's mind numbingly exhausting but it doesn't last forever. And while your baby is feeding hopefully he/she isn't crying which is even more exhausting. I always find it helps to eat lots of good plant fats in the first few months. I eat lots of avocados, nuts and full fat coconut milk with pretty much everything.

Our maid recently left and on her visa cancellation form you had to request for a ban to be given, it wasn't automatic. My husband double checked as our maid was worried about an auto ban but he was told that unless it's an absconding case etc then you have to actually request it for it to happen. She was at the end of her visa, not sure if that makes a difference although I think it was just the standard cancellation form so hopefully it will be the same for the lady you hope to employ.

I'm not sure of your exact legal standing but I think you need to pay her the cost of a one way flight to her home country (if she is not going home once she finishes with you) and any holiday pay outstanding. If she has worked a year for you and not taken any holidays you owe her one months holiday pay. It's not a requirement but I would also pay her one months salary as a gratuity.

It really bugs me when my children pick up or touch something and someone says 'no, don't touch, it's dirty'. Firstly, I'm with them, if I don't want them touching something I'll tell them myself. Secondly, a bit of dirt is good for children, I'd hate for them to be prissy clean freaks afraid to explore the world.

Regardless of the fact that it is a volunteer organisation or the rights and wrongs of asking about a salary, they should not have publicly named him. They could put stats on their social media, 'x number of applicants asked about a salary, they were not offered a job' but why name them? Unless by applying I had agreed for my application details to be made public I'd be asking for my name to be removed, immediately.

Thanks Anon, I think I'm getting confused between what I did when I went to a government clinic and what our maid needed to do! Our maid recently had a long stay in a government hospital, it was frustrating trying to get information at times but the standard of care was excellent. Some private insurances cover government hospitals, if anyone needs to take their maid to hospital I definitely recommend the government ones. Does anyone know if health cards used to give cheaper/free healthcare? It's a question often asked on here so I was wondering if it used to happen.

As Anon said, there is no point getting a government health card. It doesn't entitle your maid to cheaper health care. If she needs to go to a government clinic or hospital, they will register her and provide her with a health card number at that time. Expats pay to use the government health system and it is often more expensive than some private clinics. You need to get private medical insurance for her, Noor Takaful is often recommended on here. edited by Daza on 09/06/2014
