worried or thankful? we know daza will be sad..... Ha! I'm not worried at all, why should they cancel? They didn't break the law, they were in Peru and Peruvian law allows for personal consumption of such things. Legally speaking, they have done nothing wrong. There have been artists perform here that have gotten up to a lot worse.... Reckon some or all of them will be in rehab by next year. I'm placing bets that they won't appear. They were just doing what a lot of people of their age do, it doesn't mean they need rehab! You think that's all they're doing? Who knows, I don't expect anyone to be squeaky clean.

Oh, really wish I'd bought tickets - I didn't because the children love them too but couldn't go as it's over 21s. Should have just gone without them! You should have! Mine were desperate to go to Justin Timberlake last weekend, no chance, I had a great time without them :)

She has learned so much in terms of counting, recognizing animals, shapes, letters, making puzzles, singing songs. And she is very good at handling the iPad as a device, always impresses me what yound kids are capable . Big blue, this isn't a criticism of you, every parent should do what they feel comfortable with and I don't think there is any right or wrong in this instance but for me, I'd rather that my children were learning such things from me rather than a screen with an unfailingly irritating voice. And from books, maybe I am old fashioned but I love books and would love my children to love them too. I know it doesn't have to be one or the other, you can do both but people have busy lives and I think there can sometimes be an attitude of the iPad is teaching those things so parents don't need to so much. Technology is great but iPads talk at children, not to them. And they can't give a big hug when a little one gets it right :) (again, this is not directed at you, just in general).

I have a totally vegan, mainly raw diet so have very little gluten and it works for me. I have no idea if I have any intolerances at all and don't really care but eating the way I do I feel better, have more energy and look better. It's not hard to work out what makes you feel good and what doesn't. Intolerances aside, cutting processed food out works wonders, it's totally worth the extra effort.

Of course you are being silly! Who cares what you wear? There is such a mix of attire at waterparks here. Big bikinis, little bikinis, burkinis, shorts and t-shirts, jeans. Think how much fun you will have with your little one. All she will be thinking about is how much fun she is having with her mummy. I can't say I've ever gone to a waterpark thinking I looked fabulous but I've always had a great time with my children, how I look is totally irrelevant. You are going to have so much fun, enjoy!

Hi krispykremes I think if you expect her to listen to you all the time you are expecting too much. I'm 37 and still don't listen to my mother :) Aged two, a lot of your daughters behaviour isn't 'naughty' as such, it's just that her brain isn't developed enough to behave in what we would consider an appropriate way. Toddlerhood can be such a conflicted stage, they want independence but need to know they have boundaries. I find positive reinforcement the most effective with children, praise praise and praise some more when she is showing positive behaviour. Over the top effusive praise. At that age children are desperate for your attention and if she can get it easier by negative behaviour she will. Also, you HAVE to be consistent. She needs to know the boundaries and feel secure in that. Finally, read this and drop the word bossy.... http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/analysis-and-features/ban-the-bword-men-may-be-commanding-but-only-women-get-called-bossy--and-its-undermining-female-ambition-9188032.html

My husband was the same. His view was why worry about something that hasn't even happened yet. Although I suspect he was secretly a bit worried that it wouldn't happen so didn't want to think about it. Totally onboard and excited once I was actually pregnant though. I get pregnant really quickly, I'm not sure how he would have been if it had taken a bit longer.

We only got an iPad recently so my three older children (4, 6 & 8) were iPad free and my 1 year old isn't allowed it. My older children aren't allowed it during the week but can earn 20 minutes on weekend days for good behaviour. As for restaurants, they never have been allowed and never will be allowed, I expect them to behave and actually interact as a family during meals out. I'm pretty strict with the iPad but agree with Nayls85, all bets are off during a long haul flight. Can you manage without it? Of course you can, people have been flying with children long before iPads were around. However, I think that anything that helps to make a flight easier on your children, you and the rest of the plane is a good thing. If the iPad provides a distraction, perfect. On long haul flights I've found the iPad and iPods to best hands down the best distraction. The little ones can't see the entertainment systems very well so they aren't much help but anything they can hold themselves is perfect. Could an iPod mini with videos loaded on to it be a good compromise? Is your husband worried your toddler will keep wanting the iPad after the flight? That's easy to deal with, you are the parent you make the rules. When the flight is over the iPad is gone, not negotiable. A toddler will forget it soon enough.

Hi BellaUK I'm sorry to hear you and your little one are struggling. I totally recommend cranial and/or general osteopathy for babies. I've done it with two of my babies and the results were fantastic and sorted out the issues we were having. I most recently went to Lauren at the Osteopathic Health Centre on Al Wasl Road, she was brilliant. I hope things improve soon, best of luck.

Oh dear indeed. If you have employed someone to work for you you can't just not pay them if you aren't going to be around. Your travel arrangements are not in her control and she shouldn't suffer financially because of them. I would continue to pay her as normal and either have her still come to work and give the house a really deep clean or if you feel you can't trust her yet still pay her but not have her come in. The cost of paying her when you are not here is just one of the many costs you have to just suck up when employing a maid. Paying daily and a big reduction in working hours are fine if that is what works for you but just be careful that you aren't giving in to every demand, I have a feeling you will getting a few more, sorry.

just think by the time she gives birth she will be 44 so to think she will be mid 60s at its 21st just cant see it Can't see what jessp? Your sister happy and proud as she celebrates her child's 21st? That's a lovely image to me. What would you rather picture, her mid 60's and full of regret for not taking the chance to have children while she still could? Stop being so judgey about what you consider the ideal circumstances to have a child. Age is just one of many factors and not the be all and end all. Too old, too young, too fat, too thin, too selfish, the list could go on. If a woman is physically able to have a child, wants a child and can support that child then who is anyone to judge?

I love your post Genie, it's a green thumb from me :) My children very rarely all agree on which weekend movie to watch. My bottom line is that if they argue about it they all get nothing and if they can't agree and don't like my choice they can do something else. On their own and quietly. Weekend movie time is when I get a break. The vast majority of the time they all happily watch what I put on even if it's something they supposedly don't like. Occasionally one of them will do some colouring or Lego instead. Oh, and if any of them ever complains of being bored I give them chores to do. Not surprisingly, bored is not a word I hear often......

No company gives two months salary and a ticket amount to their employees so I dont know why some people think its normal for maids. My husband's company pays for leave not taken and also pays the ticket amount rather than for the flights directly. Big local company. OP, it's a whole different story if she is only three months in to her contract and making such demands. How long has she worked for you for? Even if she had completed another year with you and was was due her leave she shouldn't be making such demands, it's something that needs to be mutually agreed, it's not an entitlement and is at your discretion. Is this out of the blue and out of character? I'd sit down with her and get the bottom of what is going on. If there is a genuine problem and she had been a previously good employee I'd sort out a compromise. If she continued with the pushy demands I would end her employment, it's not worth the headache.

OP, if you don't need (or want) her working for the month and would rather not pay the extra you could always give her the money in lieu of her airfare and she stays here but doesn't work for the month. Our last maid used to sometimes do half/half. She'd stay here and get the money for her flight, work half the month on double pay then have the other half off at normal pay. I wouldn't be happy with taking no holiday at all, it's good for everyone to have a bit of a rest.

If she wants to work you have to pay her, with the holiday pay on top of that. Plus the ticket. In the end it will save you the hassle of finding someone else for that month, so should make it easier for you! I completely disagree with this! Yes, it is common for some people to give their maid an extra month's salary whilst on holiday but it is not a requirement. I certainly don't get an extra month's holiday pay when I am on leave. The fact that the maid is choosing not to go and take the airfare already benefits her financially. But the OP has said she will work so she isn't actually taking her leave. If she isn't taking any leave and working her holiday time then she should get an extra months pay on top of her standard pay.

I avoid taking my children to our local park in the early evening as it is filled with chatting maids ignoring their charges. There aren't that many children that misbehave (although there is always one!) but as often the sole mother there and the maids paying no attention I normally get bombarded with requests from little ones to look at them do this and look at them to that etc. Honestly, it's dull enough oohing and clapping over my own children going down a slide (again and again and again....) without doing it for random children too. To be fair some of the maids are great but a lot aren't.

It's fine to freeze but if you micro it on high the cheese will melt and make the pasta a bit greasy. You can defrost it in the micro then warm it just enough so the cheese doesn't melt. If you don't mind greasy pasta then zap away on high :)

A personal message system would be great but if admin says no (which they have every time this question has been asked) there is always the option of not clicking on a thread if it isn't relevant to or doesn't interest you. Although of course that would ruin the fun of those that click on a thread in order to thumb down and clutch their pearls disapprovingly at such chit chat.

Most indoor play areas are open from 10am as normal, they are just very quiet. I've done lots of Ramadans here with young children. We generally will go to a play area in the morning to get out the house and burn off some energy. I pack lunch boxes for the children which they eat in a quiet corner. In the afternoon we either see friends at our home or theirs or go to the pool or play water games in the garden. It's fine. Depending on what time your children go to bed you can do family iftars which are lovely. I think the older they get the harder it gets as they grow out of play areas and need to observe the rules a bit more.

Lovebop, if your daughter is a generally happy little girl and it is just this one thing then please don't worry. Children give us enough to worry about as it is without imagining problems when there really are none :) It is really hard being a first time mummy. I've got four children and still feel like I don't know what I am doing half the time. It would be nice if children came with a manual. I hope some of the responses on here haven't put you off asking for advise again. The suggestion below of a parenting course is a good idea. I know several people who have done them who have said they are great for giving you more tools to deal with problems when they arise.

I'd be livid. It would be like snogging someone else's husband, totally overstepping the boundaries and not acceptable. So you are saying that i shouldn't stop your children running into the road, as that would be discipling them? Goodness no. But you can't compare physically restraining a child to keep them from harm with hitting a child to punish them. I'm more than happy for someone to give my children a verbal rollicking if they misbehave but not to hit them.
