I put all my sports shoes in the washing machine too. Cold wash, short cycle and no fabric softener. I sometimes put an old towel in with them to stop them clattering around the machine so loudly.

Just ignore it and treat her the same as everyone else. Not everyone you meet in your life is going to like you. There doesn't need to be a reason, you don't have to fix it and you shouldn't take it personally.

IzzyOnTheSeat, after watering them do they still continue displaying that naughty behavior not necessary immediately but in a few days? Daza, had a similar problem last year even though we have 3 dogs, the neighborhood cats still came into our garden to poop and munch on my vegetable garden, I planted bougainvillea's around the perimeter wall and no more cats inside the garden. Citrus peels never worked so I agree it's a waste. Nope, our front garden is ringed in bougainvillea and there is often a cat hanging out there. My children don't play there so I leave them to it :)

I have an elevated sunny garden and we were having a big problem with the neighbourhood cats hanging out in our garden and using my children's sandy play area as a litter box. I'd tried chasing them off, citrus peel and my sons weeing in the garden to try to keep the cats away but nothing worked. I asked advice on here and was advised to squirt them with water. I did and within a few weeks, no more cat poo in the sand and my outdoor furniture stopped getting scratched and covered in cat hair. Every time a cat chances it again, I squirt them and they get the message. I don't enjoy having to squirt the cats but it's preferable to my children playing in cat poo, especially as I currently have one child in the 'everything in the mouth' phase. So ecochic, I disagree that 'it's incorrect to squirt cats, period'. And Marroosh, if you reported me for spraying a cat who was invading my garden I doubt you would get far with your complaint. After all, I'm just a mother protecting her babies as well. edited by Daza on 09/04/2014

Quick easy dahl is mine. 1 cup split red lentil 1 onion 1 clove of garlic (or more if you like garlic) 1 teaspoon of ground cumin 1 teaspoon of ground coriander 1 tablespoon of oil (I use coconut but any will do) 3 cups of water 1 teaspoon of salt Finely chop the onion and garlic, fry for a couple of minutes in the oil then add cumin and coriander and fry for a minute more. Add the rinsed lentils, stir it all around the add the water and the salt. Cover, bring to the boil then reduce the heat and simmer for about twenty minutes until the lentils are soft and breaking apart. Serve with rice and/or topped with finely chopped fresh vegetables and herbs. Any leftovers are lovely reheated the next day. ETA: If you are dieting you can leave out the oil and skip the frying step. Just add everything to the pot, stir and cook. edited by Daza on 08/04/2014

True, but unfortunately, [b'>racisim is rampant in these parts. Can also be found on EW[/b'> and the OP also displays a certain discrimination when she expects better prices and special treatment because she goes to "satwa: and not to the Mall. Even more reason not to stoop to it yourself. I haggle in some places but not others. It's not discrimination, it's horses for courses.

Actually racial discrimination is only part of the post. read the one about the curtain shop. No race issues there......and on another note. I find it funny how indignant a "white" person gets when on the recieving end of racisim..... Really janatks? Why do you find that funny? Surely any normal person has the right to feel indignant at being on the receiving end of racism, no matter what colour they are.

Siennachick, are you trying to live up to the clichéd stereotype of your ex profession? I certainly hope you can read a safety manual better than you did the OPs post which made it clear she wasn't after a 'free' anything. October, good luck with the upgrade and I hope your bruises heal soon.

I got very drunk on New Years night and displayed shocking behaviour towards my DH when he tried to quieten me down. I felt just awful next day and I know that I hurt my DH very much (emotionally that is!) I simply mixed drinks over the course of a few hours and made the fatal mistake of mixing red and white wine AND drinking champagne! This was a one off and my DH forgave me for my out of character behaviour. If your fiancé feels half as bad as I did that night, he will be feeling like a complete jerk. I hope that you can forgive him for his blip. x Thank goodness! All this talk of boys will be boys was making me wonder if I was the only woman on here who has ever had a few shandies too many and made an ar*e of herself. Glad to know I'm not!

I don't think birthdays should be celebrated in school, there is enough time wasted in school anyway. No school kids needs extra donuts in school. Celebrate at home or do a birthday party after school. With 24 kids in the class, its adding up on time missed from teaching and donut munching. I've checked this with my children's teachers before. Birthday food is given out at snack time, goodie bags at home time. No time missed teaching for either. If it was during teaching time I wouldn't have a problem with it though, they are children, I think it is fine to take 5 minutes out of the day to make them feel special on their birthday. Parties are normally at the weekend so often not on their actual birthday.

Am in Thailand right now, and after 5 days of my boys finding nothing and being completely disorganized, my 13-year old wrote me a desperate "come home now, our lives just don't work without you around" email in exactly those words. I don't know whether to feel good or just hopeless that he's following in his day's footsteps, not my (admittedly OCD) ones! Get your 13 year old in to organisation boot camp or one day it will be him driving his wife crazy ;) A friend with lovely teenage boys once told me that she is raising her sons to be good husbands as she will only live with them for 18 years but another woman might have them for 50 years. I thought it was great advice.

Oh Anon, with the sleeping and now this bubba number 4 is putting you through your paces! What cream are you using? I've always found the 100% lanolin ones best. Also, go braless as often as you can. I didn't have cracking with the last baby but I did (and still have) very sore boobs and a tendency to mastitis if I wear a bra, even a nursing one. I've been wearing those 'secret support' vests from Marks and Spencers and they make a huge difference. Make sure you are eating lots of avocado and nuts especially brazil nuts. My skin in general is much healthier when I do so it might well help the cracking from the inside. I hope things improve soon, take care.

Hi Greengoddess I took clomid after nearly losing my baby after a bad fall. I'm in to natural everything but didn't think twice about taking it when it came down to givin more of a chance of my baby surviving. You do what you have to do :) I remember a packet costing 72 dirhams but I can't remember how long it lasted so not very helpful on that front sorry! I also can't comment on side effects as I was already pregnant so didn't know whether things were down to the pregnancy or the clomid. Things all felt pretty similar to my previous pregnancies though.

Hi Goro The fairness of your complaint aside, the first three places on Tattie's list I've taken my children to and they are great for little ones, even those with training wheels. The Nad Al Sheba bike park has a children's area and it is fantastic, my children love it with their little bikes or scooters. We are allowed bikes where we live and it's still worth the trip for a morning out. http://www.timeoutdubai.com/kids/features/37332-cycle-track-for-kids-in-dubai#.Uz-v4PmSx8E

And please don't believe that you mothers are the first in the world to have raised children, it's not unchartered territory, women have been raising children healthily for millennia....................in previous generations babies may have died from disease, ignorance, famine and bad water, but not from being fed solids too soon! Of course women have been raising children for millennia and some aspects of child rearing stay constant but others change from generation to generation of new mothers. With advances in science and medicine each new generation does face a certain amount of new territory with regards to raising children. The options available and choices to be made by you when you had your babies was not identical to your mother's experience and it's not identical to what women with babies face now. When I last saw my auntie we spoke about babies and food. She said when she had her babies, you followed the advice of the plunket nurse (the health visitor equivalent in NZ) who told you when to start, what to give, wrote out daily menus etc. She said everyone did the same and you trusted what they told you. She compared it to new mothers now who are bombarded with do this/do that/you mustn't do this conflicting advice and how it must be a minefield. When my MIL how he babies in the sixties she gave them formula straight off because the advice she was given then was that formula is a complete food and better for babies than breast. Compare that to the battlefield breast/bottle is now. Anyway, my point is that things do change from one generation to the next. Maybe if you were a new mother now you would do things no differently to what you did when you had your babies but just maybe you too would sit in front of your computer looking at the the 'right' ways of doing things and worry about your choices.

I would break every tie with him, his family and everyone associated with him. If my Brother did something like that I would batter the face off him. There isn't a lot she can do and to be honest I doubt he would do it. Men like him tend to make idle threats when they don't get their own way. Begging and pleading with him not to do it only strokes his ego! He seriously needs to grow up . Agree. And yes, if that was my brother I'd fubar him before he could blink. She should also change her phone number and delete any social media profiles she has. She can always re-instate them once he has moved on to the next poor girl.

Oh dear, that is awful. Obviously I don't know what sort of background your friends is from but if that was me and getting the police involved was not an option I think I would explain to everyone that I cared about seeing them what the situation was and could they please ignore any links/emails/whatever that he might send them. Once the people who matter know she can stop living in dread and refuse all contact with him. Alternatively, could getting in contact with his mother or any other family be an option? Posting such pictures shames him too and they might be able to deal with it before he besmirches the family name. edited by Daza on 01/04/2014

I wouldn't start with porridge. Try proper food such as puréed butternut squash or pear. Feeding that often at that age is totally normal and doesn't on its own mean your baby is ready for food. If your baby is showing other signs too then they might be ready.

I think FF was being sarcastic. We sometimes have a maid who comes but mostly do everything ourselves. She doesn't always get it right but I don't log onto a forum to start threads moaning about how stupid and incompetent these maids are - I just do whatever she didn't do myself. It really isn't a big deal. Meanwhile in the South Indian ocean... Surely the complexity of human emotion allows for both? My sympathy for the horror that the relatives of flight MH370 must be going through is not diminished by also being gutted that I won't be dancing on the sand to Avicii this weekend.

People like to moan about trivial things, I don't see the big deal. In London it's the tube and it's lazy drivers, here it's maids. Small inconveniences in the grand scheme of things but surely having a bit of a moan and laugh is better than bottling it up and going nuclear?

How did the prices compare to the organic supermarket? And was there a choice of local produce? I think the prices were pretty similar. All the pantry items I saw were imported brands although I did buy local dates from Al Ain. I didn't look at the fruit and veg selection as nothing could beat Greenheart ?

Absolutely agree, That being said, her dress did meet the criteria for modesty, I was shocked at how inappropriately some people were dressed, usually people who could ill afford to wear a bottom skimming dress. I love looking at the photos of larger ladies in 10 cms of skin tight satin at the races. I'm not that flash myself but it always makes me feel almost stylish in comparison.

Yes I've also been at hairdresser where another lady has brought along young toddler who's completely out of control due to boredom mum also subjected us to "Dora" via iPad at full blast! edited by AudreyFB on 29/03/2014 I absolutely hate that! If people want to use iPads to keep their children quiet then that is up to them but turn the volume either off or right down! It's a close call but I'd probably rather listen to a whining toddler than blimmin Dora or some inane game at full volume.

I don't use wipes at all, no matter how gentle they still leave residue on the skin. I use plain cotton pads, damp, with a squirt of virgin coconut oil on it. Totally natural and leaves the skin soft and clean.

I agree with the previous posters; don't spend too much on maternity clothes, you only need them for a few months. No catherine its not like you cannot wear your maternity clothes after pregnancy. Everything entirely depends upon the kind of maternity clothes your having. I would suggest to buy designers maternity gowns instead of the shirts and pants, I bought couple of gowns from [url=http://www.fertilemind.com.au/'>fertile mind pregnancy clothes[/url'> and the best part about them is that these gowns are barely different from the standard gowns. Hence there's no need to put them away after pregnancy, you can wear these even if you're not pregnant. But why would you want to wear them even after you are pregnant? The moment I can ditch the maternity clothes I do. Plenty of my maternity dresses still looked fine after birth but there is no way I'd keep wearing them, I'd rather not be reminded of being as big as a bus.....
