Share the technique please - how do you iron just the front? What happens to that crease thing down the middle of the leg? Luckily the husband is not a crease down the middle man. Trouser leg flat, seams at the sides, job done.

If you don't like it then just say no. There doesn't need to be any grey areas, tell your children they aren't to go in her room and that is that. My children aren't allowed to set foot in our maids room. They have their own rooms and the rest of the house that is theirs to do as they want in, it's perfectly reasonable that they stay out of hers. I have the rule because she has little enough privacy and she would never say no even if she didn't want the children in there. Even if she really didn't mind I still wouldn't allow it to be honest. My children can hang out with me or each other, during working hours our maid has her job to do, after working hours it's a break from each other for all of us :)

There is no way I'd have my child and my maid share a room, even with a screen. Spiritedaway, in your situation I'd go to the children's section at IKEA. They have loads of option will will give you a solution. They do tent canopy things that clip on to beds which will give your daughter the feeling she is in her own space, they also have other style bed canopies and screens. Or children's bunk beds that you could screen off the bottom for her. Some nice cushions, throws and soft toys and she's got her own little princess (or whatever she us in to) corner in your room.

lol Dubaistar, luckily I am not a Kiwi in Dubai ;) ![/ quote'> Oh no, I am, quelle horreur! I'm quite fond of making my own compost too ;) Ilovewine, I've been thinking about this. If I was moving to Blenheim I'd be looking at the living in a rural area surrounding Blenheim rather than in the town itself. There are lots of gorgeous areas only a short drive from town but quite a different experience than in town itself. I grew up in the country so probably pretty biased but maybe something to consider. edited by Daza on 20/03/2014 Eta: iPad has gone mad, can't fix the highlighting edited by Daza on 20/03/2014

I like your style ilovewine. And if you love wine you may well love Blenheim. There are some amazing vineyards there. Platters of beautiful food and a glass of grape overlooking the vines, lush.

Yes, the small town thing, not an easy adjustment. It can go both ways, you can feel claustrophobic or you can enjoy the feeling of community that a small town can offer. Or a bit of both depending on your mood! From what friends have said, it can be pretty hard to break in to social circles although that seems to be true of many places and having a little one will help. Good schools in Blenheim too. Your husband in aviation would be a help socially, from the people I know who work in aviation they tend to be quite welcoming to those in the industry. Would a pre move visit be feasible to would you need to just take the plunge?

I'm from Nelson which is an hour or so away from Blenheim and obviously the nicer of the two towns ;) but Blenheim is great, exactly what Aroha says. It depends what you are after though. Blenheim is pretty quiet, especially in winter. If nightlife and great shopping is your thing then Blenheim is not for you but if you like beautiful scenery, wineries, boating and outdoor life in general then Blenheim would be an excellent place to live. It's a three hour hop on the ferry or a short flight to Wellington which is very vibrant and has all things Blenheim doesn't if you ever need a fix.

If you can afford it, then go for it! You deserve to get as much rest as you can and you'll feel better all around if you can get some proper rest. Anon how are you doing with #4? :) Thanks for asking, TDB! I am at the point where I'd love a newborn nurse. My son is not a good sleeper so far. I know that things will eventually get better, but it is hard when you are going through it. I wanted a small age gap between my children, but I find having a newborn is much more difficult when you also have a toddler... I hope things improve on the sleep front soon Anon, everything is so much harder when you are suffering from sleep deprivation :( My fingers are crossed for you.

Lansinoh goes out of stock quite often. The big pharmacy near Waitrose in Dubai Mall sometimes has it. There is another brand in a pale yellow tube that is exactly the same thing and easier to get. I have baby panadol on hand if needed, you can buy it in most pharmacies. I've never heard of Metanium but Sudacream is a good nappy rash cream. Olive oil from the supermarket is good. I personally prefer to use pure virgin coconut oil as it's closer to the skin's own sebum. Or avocado oil. Again both from the supermarket. Happy shopping, it's so exciting getting organised ?

I don't think it's spoilt of you at all, whatever gets you through it, happy mummy happy baby. If you couldn't find someone you liked could another option be getting a maid in full time for a few weeks? If someone is taking care of the cleaning, washing, ironing and cooking then it's so much easier and you can just concentrate on bubs. this is true. I may just do that or I might get jealous when a maternity nurse is expertly swaddling while I'm all fingers and thumbs. DD1 already cries when I pick her up from nursery lol. I don't imagine even with a nurse there I would be able to relax and sleep - I used to watch DD1 sleep! I know I'd be way too jealous! With new baby hormones raging I'm a bit of a control freak monster.

Their customer service is shocking. I do most of my shopping there (which equates to a lot of dirhams) and [b'>have bought spoilt items on a number of occasions[/b'>. I understand that these things happen, especially in this climate and never try to get a refund but according to them each and every time the problem is at my end and not their fault. I've actually given up wasting my time telling them, if they want to think they are blameless and leave spoilt goods on the shelves that is up to them. [b'>This weeks manky item [/b'>was porridge oats. Filled with little bugs, urg. It was a sealed bag, which I opened as soon as I got home to do some baking and it was teeming with them. Why do you keep going back? They have the largest selection in one place. I'm increasingly using other options as new places open. ETA: It's not actually the manky items that I have problem with, it's how they choose to deal with it. edited by Daza on 17/03/2014

As for organic produce, much as I WANT to love it - I find the veggie boxes go off after 2 days. There is a reason they spray produce with various chemicals to make it last longer. even if I put stuff in the fridge [b'>it wilts so quickly[/b'> and then I end up with a tonne of lanky veg I need to use pronto. I'd only do it if I had a dedicated cooking day to use it all up quickly and then freeze batches of stuff. If you seal it in large freezer bags it stays fresher longer.

I'm going to be preachy :) I honestly believe that the best investment you can make in your children's lives is to instill healthy living habits in them. If you teach them to enjoy healthy food and to be active it will increase the quality of their lives, not just in childhood but for the rest of their lives. Spiritedaway, being a stay at home mum makes it much easier to get your children in to good habits. You have plenty of time to get in to the kitchen with them and learn about healthy eating together. Three year olds love to help in the kitchen and they are much more inclined to try new things if they have helped to make them. With your oldest child being three, there is absolutely no reason for them to be eating rubbish, you control what they eat (you won't forever) and you have the power to say that's it, no more sweets, no more McDonalds. If your daughter is used to eating rubbish it might take a while for her taste buds to get used to the new food but if you give it time, don't push it, make it fun and keep offering her only healthy options she will learn to love healthy food - as will you. There are loads are great websites to help inspire you - at the moment I'm loving http://deliciouslyella.com/recipes/ I'm also a believer in buying the best quality food you can afford. I'm happy to sacrifice in other areas for our family to be eating good organic food. I'm not saying my children eat perfect all the time, at weekends if we have birthday parties, eating out etc on they can eat a fair bit of rubbish but I know that at home, and for the vast majority of the time they are eating really well. It can be a bit of a struggle and they have all gone through stages of vegetable dodging but if you keep at it it's worth the results. If you put the time and effort in, there is no reason for your children to feel like they are missing out or being deprived of 'treats'. Don't buy processed foods and do you own baking so you control what goes in to it. My children often have a 'chocolate slice' for their snack at school. It's packed with superfoods, great for them and they love it. They also have fish and chips and chicken nuggets, all homemade and so much nicer and better for them than McDonalds. We don't focus on any weight issues, it all about health and foods that make us 'shiny and happy on the inside'.

I actually bought both. Problem with local is that there isn't much choice unfortunately... I am currently pregnant, so I am trying to consume as much veggies and fruits as possible.... so I ventured a bit! The great thing is that I found KALE!!!!! Am so happy about that!!!! I tried the mangoes, they were really delicious too! You should check out http://www.greenheartuae.com/. They grow most of it themselves with a few imported fruit items and their produce is AMAZING. Picked fresh that morning, it;s hand down the best organic produce here. They often have a couple of varieties of kale. They are introducing heirloom varieties that do well in this climate, they collect and use their own seeds and they make their own compost. Proper organic farming not just slick marketing :)

I was put off the other store when I returned a banana loaf purchased from their bakery which was badly tainted with some sort of chemical taste and smell. The whole 'product return' experience was very poorly handled by a floor manager, therefore I would prefer to switch to an organic store who values my regular custom. Their customer service is shocking. I do most of my shopping there (which equates to a lot of dirhams) and have bought spoilt items on a number of occasions. I understand that these things happen, especially in this climate and never try to get a refund but according to them each and every time the problem is at my end and not their fault. The most difficult part of this decison is the reaction of the family and people you meet. they cant get their head around why you would like just the one child and having to constantly explain yourself is hard work. people simply dont understand that folk might like just one child. its incredibly personal and its a tough decsion so think about it. people keep saying .. well he is not going to have any neices and nephews and his children wont have first cousins. yes true and things like this do cross my mind. edited by mushypeas on 05/03/2014 If he gets married his wife may well have siblings and they may have children. Voila! Nieces, nephews and cousins. My husband has one sibling who has no interest in marriage or children so having siblings is no guarantee of anything. I think people often just can't get their head around other peoples choices. I've got four children and plenty of people don't understand that choice either. I often get told I must be mad :D

If he says he can be swayed and it is what I wanted then I would go ahead and sway him :D It's really common when you have one child to not be able to imagine bring able to love another one as much and to worry about dividing your attention. Then you have another baby and your heart grows to encompass them both.

For every maid who 'has her own visa' there is someone sponsoring her. Given there are so many maids that advertise themselves as having their own visa, there must be a fair few 'sponsors' out there. I know heaps of expats who employ maids, none admit to doing so illegally, that doesn't mean it doesn't happen ;)

Can anyone post an easy pancake batter recipe (crepe style not American style). I've been using Bisquik recently out of laziness and the pancakes are horrid and stodgy! Where serves the best pancakes in Dubai? More cafe aren't bad but they are quite thick? Is there any place that does a killer crepe? 1 cup flour 1 tsp baking powder 1 egg Enough milk for the right consistency Whisk all together and make sure the pan is hot. I sometimes add other stuff but that is a good basic easy to remember recipe. My children had chocolate on theirs this morning. Yum!

You're a wise woman kiwispiers, great post. In your situation I'd choose a scheduled section, otherwise I think I'd spend every second of the labour panicking that I was about to rupture. I've had three scheduled sections (following one natural birth) and found them great. The calm controlled feel of them felt really reassuring and I liked knowing what was going to happen. I have problems with low blood pressure but they were aware of that and able to preempt any issues. It did mean a bit longer in recovery though. As kiwi says, there are definite benefits to sections, I can happily bounce on the trampoline with my children :) . The stitches are easier to look after too ;)

I think it depends on the quality of clothes people pass on. If you get a suitcase of clothes that are in a bad condition, stained, faded, torn, than I too would not be happy about it, it's insulting. Trying to see if I'm missing something here.......why would you be insulted? I've been passed down clothes before that aren't in great condition. I've either passed them to charity if they are passable or binned them if not. It's never crossed my mind to be insulted.
