I think it would be best to send the maid home with 2/3 months salary. I wouldn't be comfortable having a pregnant woman doing my housework. I agree with Lolacat that it is a shame that we as women we are not more supportive of a pregnant maid but in this country being a sponsor carries so many more responsibilities and repercussions. I agree A Rancher. The cost of unlimited maternity cover with no exclusions for an already pregnant women would be higher than what most maids earn in a year. If there are exclusions then as a sponsor you have to be able/willing to pay the extra costs if complications occur. These can run in to tens of thousands of dirhams or hundreds of thousands if NICU care is needed after the birth. If you aren't in a position to pay or don't want to then what other option is there but to send her home? Lolacat, would you really be willing to potentially be hundreds of thousands of dirhams out of pocket for the sake of employing someone for a few extra months? If so you're a better person than I am. Or maybe just richer ;)

Everday I think of taking her to the park but by the time I finish cooking lunch it's her nap time. And at evening when she wakes up I have to cook dinner. Now how do I manage to find some me time unless this entire schedule us changed. I'm sorry you are feeling down mssassy. I felt very much the same as you after my first baby, as did many women I know. It's such a huge change so no wonder it has thrown you off balance and the hormones don't help. I too agree that you need to get some more routine and that it will take time. You need to arrange your time so that getting out and about during the day is your priority, not staying home cooking then going out in the evening. Don't just think of taking her to the park every day, actually do it. The fresh air and stimulation will do you both the world of good. The cooking can wait, get this done in the evening for the following day (or preferably in bulk for a few days) when your husband can be settling your baby and after she is asleep. Daytime sleeps in her buggy are fine but she needs to know that night time is for sleeping and be home asleep in her cot at that time, not out. It will take time to get her there but start by putting a stop to going out in the evening now. I know some people can do the baby just comes along everywhere and it works fine but for the vast majority of people that doesn't work, as it's obviously not for you. You need to be consistant and you will get there in the end. The first year of a baby can be so very hard but you do get through it. I'm sure many of the ladies will disagree with me but I honestly think that for the first year (at least) you need to adjust your expectations and forget about 'me' time (I hate that term). Therefore any time you do get to yourself (including going to the bathroom alone ;) ) will be a nice bonus. Good luck.

I also have a brilliant maid who's husband lives in Dubai and if she got pregnant as much as I would hate to do it, I'd send her home immediately with the option of returning after the baby was born. The reasons being: 1) I wouldn't feel comfortable having a pregnant woman cleaning my home in the latter stages of pregnancy. 2) Most importantly, having just had a very expensive pregnancy myself thanks to unforseen complications, I know just how expensive it can get when things go wrong. I might be incorrect but as far as I am aware sponsors are responsible for domestic staff so if she ended up in hospital with a very large bill you would be the one liable for it. Don't take your frustrations out on your maid. If the pregnancy is an accident (even if it's through ignorance) then she is probably very upset herself and facing the costs of a new baby with a big loss of income. If it's not an accident then she certainly wouldn't be the first person to get pregnant and inconvenience her employer, it's a risk any employer takes when hiring a woman of child bearing age. Wish her well and send her home.

I don't understand the issue either, surely you just do what works for you and you have a maid that can deal with whatever you do? Our maid gets a good all inclusive salary, no food/toiletries allowance on top, she can spend as much or as little as she wants out of her salary. She does her own shopping in her own time. She has her own cupboard in our kitchen and her own small fridge in her room. She cooks in our kitchen (normally when I am out) and chooses to eat in her room. I've got a husband and children to shop and cook for, I certainly don't also need to be shopping and cooking for a grown woman who's perfectly capable of looking after herself. I wouldn't employ a maid who couldn't look after herself and I was clear about that when hiring.

If you are going to need to rely on taxis you could be in for a long night. A couple of years ago some of our guests couldn't get one until 5am when trying to book. They decided to drive.

I wouldnt buy either. White and cream furniture is at the latter stages of being in fashion. You will be buying something dated. Oddly enough, some people (like myself) often buy things because they actually like them rather than they are in fashion. Anyway, given how long you can keep decent furniture for they could go in and out of vogue several times in their lifetime. To the OP, have you tried Pottery Barn?

I personally wouldn't have a live in maid unless she was able to have her own room that was always her room and she didn't need to move out if guests were staying. Where would you put her? Why is live out not an option? Could you get a full time maid after your parents have been to stay when the baby is born and not have guests after that until you are in a new home with maids room?

We've also got a nearly one year old. I hope to be asleep when the clocks chime midnight :) Previous years with small children we've always either gone to friends homes (and stayed over) or had friends stay with us. Traffic on NYE can be a nightmare and the last thing I feel like doing at the end of a long night (especially with children in tow) is taking forever to get home.

Could you make some? Super easy. Roast a chicken with no salt. Enjoy roast chicken for dinner. Put carcass in a large pot and cover with water. Add a few veggies if you like. Put on a lid, simmer for 6 hours then strain. Voila, fabulous no sodium stock.

I find that there are quite a few people that upon finding out you are a vegetarian start banging on about meat.. Not really. It's that many find it odd that those who give up meat, then go and find substitutues that taste like meat. That's the odd part. I was a vegetarian for years and during that time, not once did I look for meat substitutes or products that looked, smelled and tasted like meat - just seemed daft. I know many vegetarians that don't eat meat because of ethical reasons. They enjoy the taste of meat but choose not to eat it as they don't wish to eat animals. Meat substitutes give some of the taste of meat (if they do even taste of meat, I have no idea) without compromising the reasons they are vegetarian.

Our DS arrived home from Dubai yesterday morning for Christmas and his first request? A decent bacon buttie. Was more than happy to oblige! Tomorrow's Sunday breakfast? pork sausages, bacon, Scottish tattie scone and duck eggs! :D What on earth does that have to do with someone looking for veggie bacon? Talk about insensitive to a vegetarian! And duck eggs? EWWWWW! I find that there are quite a few people that upon finding out you are a vegetarian start banging on about meat. I personally don't find it insensitive, just a little odd. It's not like I start waxing lyrical about delicious crisp salad if someone says they enjoy a juicy steak.

Just curious... if one calls oneself a vegetarian, why seek out fake meat and veg bacon.... People are vegetarians for many reasons, often ethical, not because they don't like the taste of meat.

Can i ask why you are flying away instead of confronting him now? Wouldnt it be better for your sanity in the long run to deal with this issue head long? I obviously don't know the OPs reasons but if I discovered my husband was having an affair and we had children I would much prefer to deal with it in my home country in case things got really messy and custody issues arose.

Yes, but in how many other countries are the tenants expected to pay all the costs to rent, pay rent upfront and in some cases maintain the property for the LL ? I agree that it would be great for LL to bear more of the costs and for monthly payments to be the norm but surely people should be aware of the quirks rental market here before they make the decision to come? If someone is arriving having no idea that they will probably have to pay a year's rent upfront along with agents fees etc then they really should have done their homework. It may not seem fair but it's been this way for years so shouldn't be a surprise for anyone. I'm not saying that this means that things shouldn't change, and I hope they do change but it's not like it's something that has suddenly been sprung on all of us.

Dear WelshDragon Just to let you know, as you are new to EW you may not be aware that if your very first post is recommending a product or service then you are likely to get an unfavourable response as it looks like advertising. Hear hear mannikat and nutellagirl! I think it's brilliant news. Far from women moving towards more technical careers because they are being pushed out of other jobs, I see it as a really positive sign that certain careers are being gender pigeon holed less and less. Growing up in NZ in the 80s there was a long running government campaign "Girls Can Do Anything' aimed at encouraging girls in to traditionally male jobs. By the time I attended university in the 90s there were loads of girls going in to previously male dominated fields such as engineering. edited by Daza on 19/12/2013

The husband flies off the handle and it could be the OP has lived a life of keeping quiet for fear of him flying off the handle hence her needing to consider other means of finding out But surely she has found out? The teacher told her which means it's not simply speculating. ETA: What should she do, wait until she actually catches him with his pants down? Or find out what is going wrong before something happens that the relationship can't survive? edited by Daza on 18/12/2013

[b'>I feel a lot of people would struggle with confrontation.[/b'> I went through a similar thing with my ex BH. I eventually plucked up the courage to confront him and he told me the truth. Once I had got over the initial shock of actually confronting him I knew exactly what to do Good luck You're probably right. I have no issues with confrontation so would never be anything but straight up. To be honest, I think if you do anything else then you are just contributing to a culture of dishonesty in your relationship which would be a very difficult way to live for me.

I think that it is very clear and simple. DH was caught and 100 percent to blame; why play games? I think that if the OP is frightened to confront him then there are some serious issues with the relationship. He should be scared of her in this instance, not the other way round. I would only be wondering if this was just a mid-life-crisis type of thing, or if it indicated a long term problem. Personally, I don't think that I could handle the doubt. I completely agree Chewit. I don't understand at all in this situation why you would play games or make light of it. Surely doing so will result in an even bigger mess, why not just confront it head on.

Celesti, isn't the teacher telling you he asked her out proof enough? Even in the very slim event that it was completely innocent, if my husband failed to see that it was inappropriate to ask out his child's teacher then I would seriously question his sanity. Whether she is young and attractive or old and ugly is beside the point, it's just wrong. I'd hit the roof. As I would expect my husband to do if I asked out our children's male swimming teacher who is also young and attractive.

Hi KateRob I think it probably depends on the age of your children. Mine are baby, 3, 5, and 7. They aren't allowed TV or computer during the week but are allowed a movie at the weekend (not the baby obv!) and earn computer time to have at the weekend also. I find that if they know it's not an option then they don't bother asking. They spend their time just playing really. Outside in the garden this time of year, kicking a ball round, running games, making huts, sandcastles etc. Inside they do pretty much the same without the sandcastles. Also lots of doing lego and reading. And they fight which keeps them occupied for a while :) edited by Daza on 17/12/2013 edited by Daza on 17/12/2013

If you like it, your husband likes it and (maybe most importantly) your daughter likes it, then by all means keep doing it! Your family, your choice. Totally agree. Why on earth shouldn't she sleep in your room if it makes all of you happy? There is absolutely no harm in having her in your room as long as it's something you and your husband agree on. She'll tell you when she wants to have her own space. My children sleep in their own rooms as that is what works for us, I don't feel the need to justify or defend it. Neither should you.

I've taken my children to the snowpark at that age and they really enjoyed it.They didn't last that long, probably about an hour but had fun throwing a bit of snow around and going on the ride where they get dragged around on a ring. They probably most enjoyed being pulled around on a toboggan by me, it's quite a good work out. First visit I over dressed them and they were too hot!

Hi bintyibbs2 Sleep deprivation is tough, it can make even the smallest task feel gigantic. I always think you never realise just how bad you are feeling until you are through it and suddenly realise how much easier everything is. Just to expand on the foremilk / hindmilk thing, the thinking on it has changed in recent years, give [url=http://www.unicef.org.uk/BabyFriendly/Health-Professionals/Going-Baby-Friendly/FAQs/Breastfeeding-FAQ/Are-the-terms-foremilk-and-hindmilk-still-used/'>this[/url'> a read, it explains it really well. How long has your 5 month old been waking more often? Could it be a growth spurt? All children are different but my EBF on demand children were still waking often to feed at night at 5 months. It's always been very difficult for me to go in and soothe without feeding but if my husband goes in the baby is much more likely to go back off to sleep with a bit of a pat. Would it be possible for your husband to try? Good luck, you will get through this and sleep again one day :) edited by Daza on 14/12/2013

staying at home with your child is a blessing. Actually, being a housewife is a dream for me. I wish that all my time will be spent with my family. It is really enjoyable to see your kids grow up that in each of every single time of your life you are with them. But people do have their own satisfactions and wants in life... You can chat with your families who are far distant with you.. or maybe you can baked some goodies, and watching movies.. I'm a stay at home mum and whilst I totally agree that it is a blessing and one that I am very grateful for, being home alone with a 4 month old can be lonely, isolating and exhausting. Whenever I've had a a baby I don't think I managed to watch a movie for the first six months although I have gotten very good at cooking and baking whilst breastfeeding...
