As for the schools closing early in Dubai- Is it a bit too much? It's not because the schools can't cope with a bit of rain, it's because the roads can't. They flood badly and people aren't used to driving in it. SMBZ was a nightmare at 10am this morning. I'm very relieved my children are home safe and sound rather than having to chance the roads later today. They will only get worse if more rain comes. In NZ I lived in the country and was sent home from school early a couple of times due to imminent flooding. The difference is what takes a few days of rain to build up there can happen in a matter of hours here.

It's nice that you want to make the room comfortable for her Skiingfreak :) Our maid has quite a lot of stuff in her room. She likes to be self sufficient in her room in her time off. She has a bunk bed, drawers, TV, laptop, fridge, microwave, kettle and rice cooker. She initially had the kitchen items in our main kitchen but she prefers them in her space. She spends a lot of time in her room so I think it's important she likes it and has more than just the bare necessities.

It sounds like he isn't ready for potty training quite yet. I know lots and lots of children (especially boys) who didn't potty train until they were three. If he isn't ready and you force the issue it could create real problems. Just make the potty available , don't make a big deal about it and let him guide you as to when he is ready.

Oh gosh, janatks, that's awful, your poor daughter. I'd be inclined to move schools for the reason Asti has has given. Also, it would be terrible if she actually started believing this awful group of girls that she isn't 'good enough' for your religion :(

I got one for my daughter at about that age. To be honest I think it's better to go for a 'proper' camera. You can get really tough drop proof, water proof, simple use ones that I've since gotten for my daughter. She has found it much better than the Vtech.

1 December is tree day in our house! Put unbreakable chewable decorations low down on the tree, save anything breakable or unsafe for higher up. If your toddler is particularly determined and his interest doesn't wane you could always put the tree in a play pen.

I'm sorry your daughter is going through this SevenSeconds, girls of that age can be awful. All the suggestions below are good, I'd keep talking to the teacher about it too. I read a really good article on bullying recently. It was written not from the usual angle on how to spot if your child is being bullied and what to do but how to help your child not be a bully. It said that most parents tend not to be believe that their little darling is capable of being a bully but for every bullied child there is at least one bully, normally more as children often group up to bully one child. It gave things to look out for that might hint that your child is being a bully and how to deal with it. Basically it was saying parents need to be proactive in not raising bullies and to often talk to their children about it. So ladies, if you have a 6 year old 'golden child' in school here, have a chat to her about bullying, she might be the one bullying SevenSeconds daughter.

We stayed at the Swissotel Merchant Court a couple of years ago with our small children and it was fantastic. The location is brilliant, the rooms are spacious and nice enough without being so nice that you have to worry about your children breaking something. The pool is great too, I couldn't fault anything I don't think. The breakfast buffet is also excellent. Your toddler will probably be in with you but if you book adjoining rooms they will make one of them up as a child's room with kiddie duvet covers and pillows, toys, games etc.

I've always been out and about within a few days with my babies. The school run shouldn't be a problem, just pop your baby in to a baby carrier or in his/her buggy and if you are worried ask people to please not touch if they get too close. The eldest child does need to take a bit of a back seat when you have a new baby but that doesn't mean you can't still bond with them. When you are feeding the baby is the perfect time to chat with / read books too / sing with etc your older child. Get them involved with 'helping' at nappy change and bath times. Once you have got your head around things you'll find you have enough time to give plenty of love to both :)

It would have made much more sense for it to apply for purchases from a certain date, at least then people wouldn't be getting caught out with surprise extra costs after buying. Sense and the property market here do not go together!

Yes, I've been caught out. Four days warning to get it done before the increase, the bank not providing the necessary paper work then the developer refusing any more applications when still within the time frame as they were too busy. It's an extra 60k for us but what can you do? I figure there is no point fuming about it as it won't achieve anything. Also, when you look at it in terms of how much the house is worth as a total the amount seems much smaller. It's just another hit you have to take when deciding to buy property here in such an unregulated market.

Absolutely fair point but some [b'>nationalities[/b'> here do drive us to the point of the brink of despair with laziness and words are said in the heat of the moment..... Which nationalities? It's fair to say that some people here drive us to the brink of despair with laziness but I haven't noticed it across the board in any nationalities. There are good and bad in each.

Apologies if you felt attacked Di@DXB :) My third paragraph wasn't directed at you, rather it was at Livelytrish's comment asking why the link was posted on EW. Of course Marie Curie didn't set of any atomic bombs but it was her work which led to nuclear power being discovered. She was very much focused on the good that her discoveries could do (and her contribution was huge) and from all accounts she would have been horrified by the harm that has also been done. I'm the first to admit that I'm a bit touchy about the marginalisation of women in science (hence my reply). I'll remember to stick to my normal time wasting chit chat next time.

Yuck, sounds like a total headache summer breeze. Just think of the money :) One of my friends sold a lot of things on Dubizzle when she left, she had people barging in to her house and pointing at things saying I'll take 'this, this and this, 100 dirhams the lot etc' When she'd point out they weren't for sale they'd say 150 dirhams, final offer. One man even did it whilst picking things up and trying to walk out! Hope you are rid of the things and the people soon.

Thanks GloriousMorning, I found that really interesting. Especially interesting that the US and Russia predominantly detonated in their own countries but the UK and France it was mainly in the Pacific. Why do you think none of them were done by women Di@DXB? There are many notable female nuclear physicists, in fact nuclear science was predominantly created by a woman, [url=http://www.iaea.org/Resources/Women/famous.html'>Marie Curie.[/url'> Not everyone on here is just interested in schools, rents and bad driving. Wondering the relevance of a science based link to a women's forum is such a shame.

Hi Yojana Unless things have changed in the past couple of years then no, home births are not allowed in the UAE. Your obstetricians attitude to birth is the most crucial one as she/he will be the one calling the shots at the hospital. If you do a search on here you will be able to find recommendations for OBs that are pro natural birth.

Al Ain Zoo is a lovely and really easy day trip, even with little ones or pregnant. We always take a picnic rug and picnic as the food choices are pretty dire. There are lots of shady spots on grass to sit down. It's manageable to get around with no problem (I assume you will have a buggy for your toddler?) and there is a little train you can do a circuit on which my children enjoy. It's a brilliant day out, enjoy.

Perhaps leave them both off the christmas card list for this year? If they divorced this year it is all very new and emotions very raw. To be honest I am surprized people actuallystill send christmas cards. I always just get e-cards. Lol! Maybe just e-card them both via their separate email accounts and send the actual christmas cards to your other friends and family? edited by Asti on 13/11/2013 My (twice divorced) mother once told me that one of the horrible things about divorce is when people don't know what to say to you so they just leave you out rather than face the possibility of any awkwardness. When you've had a bad year or have been through something tough is exactly when you need know that you are in people's thoughts or for them to extend invitations to you. I guess thinking things through, it's not just about a Christmas card. My friendship with my friend goes back many years, we have lived together in two countries. She knows we will always be friends. Her husband didn't cheat on her, he didn't abuse her and he hasn't abandoned her. He fell out of love with her which sucks but it doesn't make him a bad person. I have also been friends with him for many years now and it's my way of letting him know that I still think of him as my friend. I will give her a call. If she starts the conversation with 'I can't believe how that ****** is behaving' I'll can it. Ultimately she is the one I am closest to and I won't do anything if I think it will hurt her. If everything is fine I'll ask for his address. Thanks again for the advice.

Thanks for the input ladies, reading other peoples opinions often makes mine clearer in my own head! She won't be hurt if I send him a Christmas card, if I thought she would be I wouldn't do it. She's actually been quite clear that she doesn't want people to sideline him because they have broken up. She knows that of course I am firmly on 'her side'. As for sending cards, I love sending out cards every year and love receiving them. It's my way of saying 'we don't see each as much as we would like but you are in my thoughts'. Not everyone I know is on facebook or emails much. I'd certainly never see taking the time to get cards made, write personal notes and send them off as pointless. And I think it's just as important to remember friends afar as it is to remember family.

Circumcision is completely different.. this has to do with Hygiene.. and ofcourse it's only for boys [b'>not[/b'> girls... I don't understand how circumcision is different? If altering your body isn't allowed as it is changing what you were given then why is it allowed? Is it thought that a mistake was made with this body part?

They paid [b'>insane prices[/b'> at the peak of the last boom, and the subsequent crash - the crash that so many people said couldn't possibly happen because "Dubai is different, they won't let it happen here" - wiped many people out completely. These weren't rich investors, these were ordinary people who stretched themselves too far after falling for all the hype, spin and delusion about the Dubai property market. edited by Madge_Gustard on 12/11/2013 The insane prices are back. I noticed the other day at the AR shopping center that houses are being advertised again for what they were in 2008. It would seem they are selling too, a friend just sold her house in AR, for the asking price, in three days.

At my children's school, a four year old child would be taken to the department head only for repeated bad behaviour or very serious bad behaviour. What was it for Gigi? It's impossible to tell if the punishment was appropriate without knowing what it was for. Also, what do you mean by banished? Timed out? Excluded for a day? A week? For good?

Hi MincePie My children have all gone through phases of waking at 5 - 5.30am when they've been babies. Luckily it has always passed when they've been ready, nothing I did seemed to have much effect, it just happened in their own time. It's never lasted too long (fingers crossed!). Children are all so different so not much advice I can really give except to watch your sons cues and try your best to stop him getting over tired. My children have so far all dropped to one sleep a day at around 10 months, my 8 month old is doing it occasionally now. Some children do it early, some later so the best thing you can do is try to work out what your son needs, no one can do that better than you so trust your instincts :)

Ladies, with all due respect, do any of you actually report these incidents to the police? Or just write them on here? No one on here can do anything about it - the police CAN. If I see her again and can get her number plate I'll be calling Al Ameen in a flash. When I saw her on Thursday she was going to quickly and gone too fast for me to get her plate. And yes, I've reported dangerous driving before. Expatwoman is my second port of call if I can't get enough details to report properly, I doubt the police could do much with 'a silver Prado in AR'.

I have to say one of the chief downsides of motherhood is mind-wrenching boredom. It starts in pregnancy and doesn't actually get better until you go back to work! Or for some other people (like me) you can be surprised to discover that once the initial shock has worn off that you love being a SAHM more than your previous job which you also loved and actually got paid for. Linalou, I'm sorry you are having such a tough time. I also struggle emotionally when I'm pregnant, very tearful and anxious. It feel like I'm constantly teetering on the edge of the precipice of total disaster. During my second pregnancy I actually got it in to my head for a time that my husband wanted to kill me. Which is utterly ridiculous in hindsight but was terrifying at the time. The good news is that things improve vastly once I give birth. I had a few months of PND with my first but nothing like the feelings of impending doom I get in pregnancy. Make sure you keep talking to someone about how you are feeling, if you (or anyone close to you) feels like it's getting out of hand see a professional. Hopefully just talking about it will keep things at a manageable level but seek help if it doesn't. I hope you are feeling better soon. edited by Daza on 07/11/2013

Hi Anouja Welcome back and congratulations on your new baby :) Then best thing you can do with your 6 year old is just spend time with her. You don't need to go out or if you do, something simple like going to a local park. There is no point pushing yourself when you are tired with a new baby, your older girl just needs to know you are still there for her even if you are busy with your baby. My children of that age love it when I play card games with them - you can still do it while breastfeeding which is a bonus.

Oh TDB, I feel for you. Organising a wedding can be so stressful and that's without the added stress of a baby and being pregnant to contend with! If it makes you feel any better, I was a bridesmaid in Australia and the bride and groom asked their families to please dress smartly. For one of her new brother in laws this obviously meant tucking his rugby league top in to his jeans ;) Don't worry about what people wear. Before my wedding I would have said I'd be a bit ticked off to see jeans etc but on the day a few people wore jeans and shorts and it didn't bother me at all, I was just thrilled they were there to share such a happy day with me. A lot of the things that seemed important before the day that I micro managed totally turned out to be not important at all. Conversly, the one thing I wish I had taken more time over was my wedding jewellery. I really wish I'd gotten something special I could pass down to my daughter rather than what I had. Have a wonderful day, it will all be fine.

Hi Farah Give Toys R Us a call. Even if they do stock what you are after you'll need to check that they actually have some in stock before you make the journey. I had a Tommee Tippee disposal system for my first baby. Total waste of money, tightly tied bags are just as good, a lot cheaper and you don't have to worry about finding refills. If you have a ipad, laptop or smart phone you can download sound apps, no need to buy a special machine. Or go to the [url=http://www.rainymood.com/'>rainy mood[/url'> website. The [url=http://www.organicfoodsandcafe.com/'>Organic Shops[/url'> sell organic gluten free baby foods. Or even better you could buy fruit and veg from them or [url=http://www.greenheartuae.com/'>Greenheart[/url'> and make your own. It's easy and tastes much better :)

Ooo, that's nasty TDB. My stomach gets really sensitive when I'm pregnant too, I've been on a drip (at least once) with all my pregnancies. I deal with it by avoiding eating out when I can and just eating chips or bread (healthy!) if I have to eat out. Probiotics are a great idea. Take them in capsule form if you think dairy might be upsetting you. There is pretty good evidence that taking probiotics when pregnant reduces the likelihood of your baby having eczema and other allergies.
