Guys hates dinners, weekends away etc.. Give him something to remember and for boys only :) Really??!! I think if the weekend away involves something for him to remember that most certainly isn't boys only then it's generally quite well received!

What I think we should agree on is that a woman has the right to an informed decision about how she births, her doctor should give her unbiased, up to date advice, and armed with good info ultimately the decison should be the woman's as to how she proceeds and really, nobody should be passing judgement. Spot on kiwispiers.

Sorry, just saw that it is gift ideas you are after! Do you think he would enjoy an 'experience' type gift? Charter a boat for the day or a few hours? Sea plane? Tandem skydive? A night/weekend away?

I really know nothing about labor. I just lay there and pushed a few times. I am not a drama queen about this kind of stuff. [b'>Billions of women have done it[/b'>. Indeed they have although millions of women have also died doing it so it's not always without drama.

It's simply based on money. I'm "elite", purely because of my husband's (not enormous) income and the fact we own property. I agree. Despite my fondness for rap/hip hop and attending concerts rather than museums and galleries, I was elite too. Although maybe my tendency to socialise with accountants over lorry drivers bumped me up too. Anyway, the whole idea of a class system seems a bit dated nowadays. ETA: I suspect the tax free salaries earned here would skew the results. edited by Daza on 21/04/2013

Times change and we're long past the days of life coming to a halt just because its a certain day of the week. edited by DesertRose1958 on 20/04/2013 Not related to your situation but I find it really sad that in my home country the traditional 'quiet' day (Sunday) is just another day of the week with shops open etc. My brother lives in Switzerland where Sundays truly are a day off, shops shut etc. You aren't even allowed to do noisy things like mow the lawn etc. It's fabulous, everyone gets to spend time relaxing with their families an/or friends. Obv certain professions still need to work, medical etc but only if it's a necessity.

That's disgusting about the hair... I have told ours to wash her hands with soap before handling food. She doesn't. Last week, she was ripping the stems off of the spinach for our salad (I never told her to do this- I actually hate her handling every single piece of spinach!!), and touching her mouth and face. I told her to please wash her hands because she's touching our food. She rinsed with water, so I said to do it with soap! [b'> She looked lost[/b'>. It's really so much to mention and alot of people like to jump in and judge on this forum without knowing the full details... Good luck to you though! :-) Tara.k, I know you don't like to be judged so please don't take this as judgement, it's trying to be helpful advice.... Have you considered that your maid 'looked lost' because she grew up with different standards of hygiene to you and she genuinely doesn't understand the need for soap? That she was trying to be helpful by removing the stems from your spinach and she can't understand why you are angry with her, yet again? I think I'd look pretty lost if I was raising the ire of my employer with every little thing I did or sound I made and I didn't understand why. Have you sat her down and gone through expected hygiene and expected behaviour (no crinkling bags when baby asleep for instance)? Written her lists exactly how you would like things done? Maybe her problem is lack of job training rather than she's trying to annoy you on purpose? Or maybe you are a great employer and have provided ample training and she just doesn't want to, or can't, get it. Like I said, I'm not judging. edited by Daza on 19/04/2013

You are not a nag. He is an ***hole. He sounds very selfish and used to getting his own way, you will never be happy with someone like this. Dump. Absolutely agree. Also, if he thinks you are a nag now (which you aren't) he's in for a shock once he's married with children and there are really things to nag him about.

I'm constantly having to repeat myself to them; pick this up after yourself, put that away, did you hear me? Well, if you did,why didn't you respond? I mean if they just said ok or even grunted in response I wouldn't have to repeat myself now would I? I am what you call a nag ;) This is me! I can't tell you the number of times I say "Can someone PLEASE acknowledge I've spoken?!" It's like speaking to a brick wall, so frustrating. edited by Daza on 18/04/2013

So I think I have compensated her very generously overall. in addition to that to again give her an extra months salary ?? You say you have compensated her generously overall so why turn around now and be miserly? If you want to pay overtime for evening babysitting, great, good for you. I don't think that means it's right for you to then decide not to compensate her for working her holiday time. Turn it round to put you in her position, if you received overtime pay at your work would you be happy if your boss thought it was therefore ok for you to work your holiday time for free?

Hi KH, I'm sorry you had such a rotten experience last time and your OB/GYN is not being supportive of your fears. My first baby was a natural birth, she had a large head and got pretty stuck on the way out resulting in an episiotomy. I had a lot of stitches and they took forever to heal. 5 weeks after the birth it was still painful to wear underwear so when I was at home I'd have to not wear underwear and sit on a towel. I found the entire experience horrendous. It was painful, humiliating and once I'd finally healed physically I still wasn't fine emotionally about how it all went. So, with my second baby I had a c-section. In comparison to my the first time around, the recovery was an absolute breeze. A bit limited in terms of what I could do for a few weeks but so, so, so much easier. And I felt great emotionally :) I was a bit uncomfortable for a few days but it never reached the level of painful. And if I'm going to have stitiches I'd rather they were in my tummy than where I'm going to pee on them ;) Babies 3 and 4 were also c-sections. It was absolutely the right decision, physically and emotionally, for me to go for an elective c-section after my experience. Good luck with your decision.

Hi Petal The baby meal I've always been given on Emirates is just a jar of baby food, I think they have a selection you can choose from although I've always taken my own food for them if they are under two so no idea what they are like. I wasn't aware that they had formula/bottles etc available although they may do, I've never asked. Again, I've always taken my own bottles and formula. They have always been very helpful with heating things up, providing boiled water etc. edited by Daza on 18/04/2013

Hi mols Fever in itself is only harmful above 41, the vast majority of children will never get that high. A fever is not an illness itself, in temperatures under that, the fever isn't actually going to harm your child. The purpose of any treatment is to make your child more comfortable rather than treat the illness. Also, watching your child's temperature helps to show how the illness is progressing, if you medicate you can't monitor this. I've always followed the thinking that the fever has a job to do. A fever is one of your your bodies defense against illness, the rise in temperature is to try and help to kill off any nasty bugs that are in your system. Hence I never give medication for a fever unless my child is actually miserable. If they are just a bit lethargic and 'off' I don't give calpol, I just keep them cool and let their body get on with dealing with the infection. I've got four children, the oldest is seven and this approach has always worked for us. If they are miserable I obviously don't want them to suffer so give them calpol. It's really important that you take note of how your child is feeling rather than just focus on their temperature. I've had one of my children happily running around playing with a temperature of 40, I've also had them laid out on the couch miserable with a temperature of not much over 38. It's only considered a fever over 38. Hope your little one is feeling better.

My husband recently bought me a Fitbit pedometer thing. For our anniversary. Three weeks after I had a baby. He gave it to me with the words 'now don't take this the wrong way'. The fool. Not surprisingly, I very much took it the wrong way. Is he now undergoing surgery to have it removed ?? Hahaha! It actually gets worse, when I asked him if it was returnable he said that his back up plan if I didn't want it was that he'd actually quite like it. What a prince.

Just a question then and I certainly don't want to get into a slanging match over this, but what do you do when he wakes up. I just used to go back let them know I was still there and then get on. They soon realised I hadn't left them and it was just another noise to get used to. I do the same for my 2 grandchildren. Said in jest Geordie expat! He does in fact often wake up the second I step in to the shower but I was just saying he can sleep through anything except mummy making time for herself ;) When I shower he is normally in his chair on the bathroom floor, if he's asleep (or not, as the case may be) he's in the room next to me and I talk to him until I'm finished. He's my fourth baby so used to having to wait :)

Sorry but the crinkling of bags waking the baby made me laugh. When mine were babies over 20 years ago, they had to learn to sleep while I hoovered and did the housework. It was the only time I had the chance, if I wanted to spend time playing with them. I know things are different out here, but honestly, surely it's to your advantage if your baby can sleep through household noises. My baby can happily sleep through hoovering, siblings screaming and the school run with 5 bellowing children but turn a shower on within 100m and he's awake in a shot!

I have 3 children, including a 6 month old. This woman is constantly making noises that wake up my baby when he is napping. Of course I've told her (many times before), to be quiet and not make noise when the baby is asleep. Even as I type this, she is walking around crinkling plastic bags while my baby is asleep! Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhg!!!! If something as minor as crinkling plastic bags is going to disturb your baby, it might be an idea to have your maid take breaks when your baby is sleeping. Better to have a well rested baby than a spotless house. Having a maid is meant to make your life easier, it the cons are outweighing the pros then it's not worth having one.

I would wait until she has passed her ugly teen years. She may use this as her lever....and they can be nasty the girls, with all of those hormones. When you do tell her, [b'>she will then understand why you waited[/b'>, especially if there was no biological father for her to hunt down. If my parents waited until I was an adult to tell me that my father wasn't my biological father I certainly wouldn't be understanding, I'd be angry and hurt that I'd been lied to my entire life.

I'm hoping to have an easy one giving that I have not been sick and don't feel anything I could get a nanny to help what is d [b'>cost of delivery in dubai[/b'> I'm more worried about letting the company know before I arrive they may not want me to come anymore what should I do The cheapest delivery you will get if there are no complications is about 9k AED. Double that if you have to have a c-section. Average delivery costs are about 12k, again, double for a c-section. If there are complications costs will rocket. If your baby needs the NICU, costs will be in the thousands [i'>per day[/i'>. That's just for the birth and doesn't take in to account doctors visits, scans etc during your pregnancy. When you start your job you will be on probation. I suspect that most companies will fire you on the spot once they find out you are pregnant and you haven't told them. Best case scenario you will be out of a job, pregnant and in a strange country. Worst case, they will file a case against you to recover their costs and if you can't pay you will end up in jail, pregnant and in a strange country. You ask what you should do. Tell the company you are pregnant, put the ball in their court. If they still want to hire you, great. Check you will have maternity cover then come here. If they don't want to hire you, have your baby where you are. You can always try again once the baby has arrived.

I'm sorry, I don't have any advice on how to break the news but I just wanted to tell you both that in my family I have a step father and step brother (and grandma, aunts, uncles, cousins....) that have been in my family since I've been two. I've always known but have never differentiated between that side of the family and my blood relations. I grew up with them and they are my family. Love is the tie that binds, not blood.

You can do it at the airport. But if you are an expat, I don't think you will be able to get another maid for a while if she absconds. Am I right? you can get a new one as long as she gets cancelled (reported as absconded) with ticket and passport handed to immigration. Different story I believe if you dont hand in the passport ? I had a maid abscond with her passport a few years ago. Reported her and as far as I'm aware she never turned up. Had no issues hiring another maid straightaway.

By the way, just had a look at their website. Didn't know this existed in Dubai. Can anyone advice on the hourly rate of these drivers? I assume you book them for a whole evening? I've never booked them for a whole evening, just a single trip. They meet you at your car at the time booked. I live in Arabian Ranches, the rate has always been anywhere in Dubai to The Ranches for 120 dirhams.

It's such a personal thing though, regardless of how capable the husband is and whether the children are aged 8 or 8 months, if someone doesn't feel good about doing it then that is their call entirely and no one should criticise them for it. edited by Daza on 07/04/2013
